Should you knit or crochet socks?
Having never knit or crocheted a sock before, it was only a matter of time until I did both for the first time. So, why not knit and crochet back-to-back to really find out the differences between the two?
Will one come out on top? Which method would/do you prefer?

I love your content style of showing your trials and tribulations with both knitting and crochet even though it’s not really a tutorial I feel as though u give a lot of information on how to free hand things and that’s basically how I knit/crochet all my items

Thank you 💕 so great to hear this from another free hand knitter + crocheter

i can't remember where i first learned this but for crocheting in the round you can get a straight seam if you turn your work every round and go back the way you came! it's kinda different from knit where you can just keep working in a continuous circle. hope it helps :)

I like crocheting things like this in a spiral. Just saves a lot of stress over ending rounds

I think you would really enjoy making a crochet waistcoat stitch sock. I know you mainly do free hand knitting/ Crochet but Bhooked has a tutorial/ pattern using that stitch. I haven’t made them but they look really cute.

I've never clicked so fast at a discussion on knitting vs crocheting 🤪. Knitting or crocheting socks, that's the question I've pondered ceaselessly. Your experience at 4:27 is also what I went through, many times 😫. But your knitted sock at 5:23 looks so picture perfect that it's criminal.

it was a rollercoaster for sure 😂 still wondering where that extra stitch came from

Forgot to add that I ended up with a pair of monster socks, but I used DK yarn. I feel like with the right yarn, they will look good. What I like the most about crocheting is that it's very easy to frog and you can always modify as you go without knowing anything (talking about me!). Like you, I will recommend crocheting socks first to get the hang of how to structure a sock, then knit later. One can never have too many socks, even those loafer styles you don't dare to go out with.

I know this may not be what you meant but monstrous socks sound pretty great to me 😅 been wondering about DK socks as well. Agree with you about the ease of crochet when it comes to zero planning, and that you can never have too many socks!

I like crocheting with a heavier weight yarn to make house slippers. crochet’s kinda too thick for socks.

ok, but I LEARNED A THING: shift stitches???? have I been living under a rock? (under a blanket to be precise)
but that means that I am now confident enough to try crochet project in the round, and laugh at those who have a twisted sweater on ravelry (because it is very productive and will for sure ... make me, uh , feel better or something)
so I just checked a free pattern I like and it does indeed mention shift stitches!!!!!!

      You got this!
They are a game changer... but at what cost?! (just kidding)
      blanket > rock

while I know what the answer would be, how do you like the fit of each?
Sock knitting is my favorite portable project, so just this few months I've made 3 socks that have tabi toes (one of them had 3*3 checkers pattern and took me a month).

    • @ZhadeLang
      @ZhadeLang  Год назад +3

Tabi toes and checkers is a combination and a half!
Although I like the fit of the knit sock more (you already knew this haha), with the right yarn I think the crochet has a lot of potential.

@@ZhadeLang maybe after you go through your cotton stash, you can experiment with felting crochet/ knit fabric for slippers

I've wanted to try both felting and slippers, but combining them together would be interesting
