Fun reaction, Addie. As an Asian-American, Rush Hour (1998) is one of my favorite buddy cop action comedy movies. I agree with you that this movie is hilarious. Its sequels are gonna be that too because Jackie Chan & Chris Tucker make a great duo. The scene where Soo Yung was singing Fantasy by Mariah Carey was so cute and funny at the same time. And the Chinese Theater is my all-time favorite movie palace on Hollywood Boulevard. In the movie, they were screening Titanic (1997).
Speaking of Jackie Chan, I suggest Police Story (1985), Police Story 2 (1988), Police Story 3: Supercop (1992), Shanghai Noon (2000), Shanghai Knights (2003), Around The World In 80 Days (2004), The Tuxedo (2002), Shinjuku Incident (2009), and The Foreigner (2017).
As a South East Asian Chinese from Malaysia, this movie was really disappointing when it came out. Rumble in the Bronx(a Hong Kong production shot mostly on Toronto) which came out before Rush Hour had way much better stunts and fights. For Rumble remember our cinemas were packed for weeks and each time I watch the audience was cheering. The stunts in Rush Hour are weak, the fight choreography is way too by the numbers for a Jackie movie and is more of a Chris Tucker movie because he gets most of the dialogue while Jackie sits back. The made up Chinese dish and some other references almost feels like those buck tooth chop socky movies of how Hollywood used to portray Chinese in their movies. Hell Jackie is not even a fan of this movie. Thankfully the sequel is a big improvement over this one. The movie he made when going back to Hong Kong, the 2004 New Police Story is way better than this in terms of stunts and fights.
These two are tons of fun together. Jackie Chan was also part of another really funny action/comedy duo when he made Shanghai Noon and Shanghai Knights with Owen Wilson. They're also very funny together, and they're just darn fun movies.
The bloopers alone are worth watching over and over!! The combination of these two actors/characters worked so well!! The very first Halloween after this movie came out, I dressed up as Lee. Jackie Chan always includes bloopers at the end of all his movies to showcase his stunts or failed stunts. There were some cases where his stunt team and fellow actors would be seriously hurt during the movies and he wanted to show this to his audience. Police Story series is among some of his best work IMO

He did occasionally have to use stunt doubles in Hollywood though. Not because he wanted to but because Hollywood and insurance companies would otherwise refuse to cover the production. That's why his Hong Kong movie are special because he's able to have a lot more freedom to go all out.
If you like Jackie with a chair, you have got to see him with a ladder (First Strike). It literally got a standing ovation in the theater. Also, Beverly Hills Cop.
Fun fact: Jackie Chan does all of his own stunts and has broken over 200 bones in his body because of it. He started out in Chinese film, and they had almost zero safety protocols.
He doesn't do all his own stunts these days cos age and the wear and tear on his body but he does them when he can but yes, back in the day he did pretty much everything, no matter how insane people thought he was. The guy should be dead many, many times over but somehow and very fortunately he is still alive and in good shape to this day. :)
If your number is right, it must be double-counting some bones that were broken more than once. There are only about 206 bones in the human body, and they're not all equally prone to fracture when doing stunt work, so breaking more than 97% of them (and surviving) would be highly unlikely. For example, I'd bet the tiny bones in his ear were safe. And if he'd broken every single one of his vertebrae, even if at different times, there's no way he'd still be able to move normally.
It's also wholesome to know they didn't really like each other in the beginning of filming this, but really grew into friends and respectful colleagues because of rush hour. Don't miss out on the trilogy AND Shang High Noon. Amazing as well and a similar vibe.

You'll definitely want to follow up with the sequels, and check out Shanghai Noon. Actually, it's hard to go wrong with Any Jackie Chan movie. Who Am I, Mr Nice Guy, Drunken Master, Project A... and so on... I don't want to list every one... Though I should mention that he has a small role in Cannonball Run, which is a classic that needs to be watched

The whole Rush Hour trilogy holds up. The duo of Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan give the exact same mix of comedy throughout the others as well. After enjoying this one as much as you did, you should definitely watch the others as well.
A super fun gateway movie into the vast catalogue of the incomparable stuntmaster Jackie Chan. Chris Tucker (who still does the Michael Jackson leg kick with the wrong leg, EVEN IN FRONT OF MICHAEL JACKSON HIMSELF at the 30th Anniversary in 2001, which caused Mike to just flop to the stage floor in laughter) is an excellent partner for Jackie here. You can tell Jackie and Chris got on really well and had a lot of fun making these films. :)

There's a very underrated Jet Li movie that was released around this time: "Kiss of the Dragon." Lots of drama and the martial arts sequences are captivating, even if you're not into that genre. Worth a watch if you haven't seen it.
"Kiss of the Dragon" was a real good movie. I also liked "Romeo Must Die". But IMO the best "western" Jet Li movie is "Danny The Dog" aka "Unleashed", he really kills it not only in the fight scenes but also with his acting in that one.

Hope you get to see the other two at some point. Next to the Men In Black trilogy the Rush Hour trilogy is one of the prime examples of how to do the buddy cop comedy right. So much of this movie never would have made it passed sensors today.
I think they work so well because Jackie Chan has this manic fight scene energy with lots of comedy, Chris Tucker has this manic comedic energy with the ability to also do action. They complement and counterpoint each other perfectly.
This is such a fun movie, but the 2nd one is (in my opinion) even better. This was great seeing their relationship begin, but once you see them start off while already buddies...it's so great. When you think of these 2 actors paired together it's a bit mind boggling, but boy do they make it work. They play off of each other so well and I love that it isn't just having 1 be the funny one and the other do all the action. Chris Tucker gets more involved with the action just like Jackie Chan with the comedy. These 2 are perfect together.
What a joy this was. If you enjoyed this movie, I definitely recommend some of Jackie Chan's Hong Kong-produced films: Rumble in the Bronx, Who Am I?, Legend of Drunken Master, Supercop... his American movies have some of the best writing & highest production values, but Hollywood filmmakers care a lot about pesky things like "safety" and "insurance," and also work on a tight schedule. Jackie's Hong Kong pictures, where he's in total control of his own stunt team, are where his absolutely insane death-defying stunts come from. He's famous for his "outtake reels" where you can see just how hard his stunts are, and how many injuries he suffers on the set to bring us these movies. He's an absolute legend, but there's a lot going on in this movie and not much room for him. Seeing him on his home turf, in his native language with his own stunt team, is a totally different experience.

Jackie Chan is one of the biggest movie stars in the world. Most of his movies are based on his own stuntwork and physical comedy and then dubbed into local languages. Bloopers are standard for Chan's movies as they *always* show his stunt failures and injuries.
While you watched this for Chris Tucker, my generation watched it for Jackie Chan. Now you must watch Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson in Shanghai Noon. A comedy Western.
Jackie Chan can move, and he does all of his own stunts. He's amazing to watch in ANYTHING. But a movie you really need to check out is "Legend of Drunken Master," in the original Chinese if you can find it. His mother in that movie makes me laugh so hard, and I believe she is his mother-in-law in real life. Such a good movie.
The reason of James Carter doesn't want to team up with partners because of his father died cause of his partner didn't back him up. I suspect that James Carter's father's partner is corrupt cop. Jackie Chan appeared very briefly as one of the body guards trying to kill Bruce Lee in the 70's movie Enter The Dragon. So he's obviously been around a really long time. He's the fastest on the kung fu (Wing Chun ) dummy which you can find on utube.

He did not train Bruce Lee for too long then because Lee was bad at grappling in real life, also anyone can be choked unconscious while in an RNC hardly an achievement for a 10th degree red belt in Judo.
Jackie Chan movies was just something entierly special for me growing up. My older brother was a big martial arts fan in his teens and loved Jackie Chan movies the most. This was during the VHS and very early internet era so it was very hard to find any of his old 80's and 90's movies back then, but somehow my brother found a Dutch site where he could order all of Jackies full cataloge of movies with English dubs but Dutch subtiles (We are Swedish). He used to have this tiny but very clunky like 23' TV and VHS in his room and me and him would watch every single Jackie Chan film we could get our hands on. We were mesmerized by Jackies stunts and fights and would rewind and rewatch everything over and over. He is mostly knew in the west by his Hollywood movies like Rush Hour or Shanghai Noon but he has alot of really great Hong Kong movies with some personal favorites being Police Story, (thats a full series of 6-7 movies with the first 4 atleast being fantastic.) Project A. Drunken Master. Armour of God, Wheels on meal and City Hunter. Like almost every Jackie Chan movie they have a great blend of his unique action comedy.

Jackie Chan movies are always so much fun. But if you want to see him in a serious role you should check out The Foreigner, he turns in a great dramatic performance in that and in New Police Story from 2004
Jackie Chan always does his own stunts, even the most dangerous ones. At the beginning, when two containers also slammed into each other with him in between, it was real. Jackie almost got killed. In Hong Kong, those high-up scenes were shot without a safety net, to save the backers' money. When Jackie came to Hollywood and saw all the precautions, he said, "Oh! So safe!" His style is so much different from the usual martial-arts movies. In most of them, the great master is ultra-serious and ultra-graceful. Jackie Chan fights with an economy of movement, with an expression on his face that says he's either terrified or is sure he isn't going to win. Plus he always gets hurt. For real.
A wisecracking LAPD cop Carter grudgingly agrees to keep an eye on a detective Lee flown in from Hong Kong to find a Chinese ambassador's kidnapped daughter.
The other movies are good fun as well. I like the second in particular. There is also a prototype of sorts with Chris Tucker and Charlie Sheen called Money Talks. A lot more swearing and a lot less kung foo with an "on the run" thing going on. It has a special place in my heart. I can never seem to find it on blu-ray so I'm guessing maybe it's one of those forgotten gems.
Jackie Chan is Iconic and his movies were a big part of my childhood. I would recommend watching some of his other movies in your free time. "Rumble in the Bronx" is a good American Chan movie.

There are 3 Rush Hour movies , Rush Hour, Rush Hour 2, and. Rush Hour 3. Each are very good according to most reviews i have read or heard. Also one comment already mention it that being Jackie Chan’s movie Shanghai “Noon”is also a very good and fun movie with similar comedy to that of the Rush Hour series. Shanghai Noon does have a follow up and or sequel called Shanghai Knights. Both Shanghai Noon And Shanghai Knights pair Jackie Chan up with actor Owen Wilson in the same ay Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker were pair up in the Rush Hour trilogy.
No, the sequels aren't as good, but you should definitely check out Shanghai Noon next! ... or whenever you're in the mood for a Western action comedy, starring Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson. It was made following the huge success of Rush Hour, and they really spared no expense in making it. :)

There's a very underrated Jet Li movie that was released around this time: "Kiss of the Dragon." Lots of drama and the martial arts sequences are captivating, even if you're not into that genre. Worth a watch if you haven't seen it.

"Kiss of the Dragon" was a real good movie. I also liked "Romeo Must Die". But IMO the best "western" Jet Li movie is "Danny The Dog" aka "Unleashed", he really kills it not only in the fight scenes but also with his acting in that one.

@@Eowyn187 "Fearless" is a great movie, no question. But I wouldn't rate it over Unleashed. In fact, I would rate "Fist of Legend" - with a somehow similar story to "Fearless" - higher.
But than again, there are so many great Jet Li movies, hard to pick a favorite. "Hero" for example is just brilliant.

Hope you get to see the other two at some point. Next to the Men In Black trilogy the Rush Hour trilogy is one of the prime examples of how to do the buddy cop comedy right. So much of this movie never would have made it passed sensors today.
Rush Hour is a riot. And Rush Hour II is just as good. Jackie Chan and his moves are without equal. Great reaction to it. :)
Money Talks is one of my favorite movies with Chris Tucker! He’s hilarious in the role he plays
When Jackie Chan says, "What's up my n.....?" The word glitches in every reaction I watch. I guess I'll never know what that word is.
I think they work so well because Jackie Chan has this manic fight scene energy with lots of comedy, Chris Tucker has this manic comedic energy with the ability to also do action. They complement and counterpoint each other perfectly.
This is such a fun movie, but the 2nd one is (in my opinion) even better. This was great seeing their relationship begin, but once you see them start off while already buddies...it's so great. When you think of these 2 actors paired together it's a bit mind boggling, but boy do they make it work. They play off of each other so well and I love that it isn't just having 1 be the funny one and the other do all the action. Chris Tucker gets more involved with the action just like Jackie Chan with the comedy. These 2 are perfect together.
The Bloopers are a Jackie Chan thing. Almost all of his movies end that way. He's amazing. You should watch more of his movies.
What a joy this was. If you enjoyed this movie, I definitely recommend some of Jackie Chan's Hong Kong-produced films: Rumble in the Bronx, Who Am I?, Legend of Drunken Master, Supercop... his American movies have some of the best writing & highest production values, but Hollywood filmmakers care a lot about pesky things like "safety" and "insurance," and also work on a tight schedule. Jackie's Hong Kong pictures, where he's in total control of his own stunt team, are where his absolutely insane death-defying stunts come from. He's famous for his "outtake reels" where you can see just how hard his stunts are, and how many injuries he suffers on the set to bring us these movies. He's an absolute legend, but there's a lot going on in this movie and not much room for him. Seeing him on his home turf, in his native language with his own stunt team, is a totally different experience.
Hopefully we get watch more movies with you like this. Beverly Hills Cop 1 and 2 and The Lethal Weapon franchise.

Bloopers are standard for Chan's movies as they *always* show his stunt failures and injuries.
While you watched this for Chris Tucker, my generation watched it for Jackie Chan. Now you must watch Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson in Shanghai Noon. A comedy Western.

Jackie Chan can move, and he does all of his own stunts. He's amazing to watch in ANYTHING. But a movie you really need to check out is "Legend of Drunken Master," in the original Chinese if you can find it. His mother in that movie makes me laugh so hard, and I believe she is his mother-in-law in real life. Such a good movie.
The reason of James Carter doesn't want to team up with partners because of his father died cause of his partner didn't back him up. I suspect that James Carter's father's partner is corrupt cop. He's the reason of James Carter losing his father.

Jackie Chan appeared very briefly as one of the body guards trying to kill Bruce Lee in the 70's movie Enter The Dragon. So he's obviously been around a really long time. He's the fastest on the kung fu (Wing Chun ) dummy which you can find on utube.
If you like Chan's choreography, I highly highly highly recommend Who Am I? also from 1998.

The old cab driver is "Judo " Gene Lebell he's a martial arts legend who trained Bruce lee how to grapple , once wrestled a bear, was the ref for a famous Muhammad Ali vs a wrestler fight , and on a dare choked Steven Seagal unconscious
He did not train Bruce Lee for too long then because Lee was bad at grappling in real life, also anyone can be choked unconscious while in an RNC hardly an achievement for a 10th degree red belt in Judo.
Chris Tucker in the movie "Money Talks"... is a classic in my eyes.
Chris Tucker has a couple misses early on in his career but he has evolved so well over time. One of the best comedians/comic actors ever.
Jackie Chan movies was just something entierly special for me growing up. My older brother was a big martial arts fan in his teens and loved Jackie Chan movies the most. This was during the VHS and very early internet era so it was very hard to find any of his old 80's and 90's movies back then, but somehow my brother found a Dutch site where he could order all of Jackies full cataloge of movies with English dubs but Dutch subtiles (We are Swedish). He used to have this tiny but very clunky like 23' TV and VHS in his room and me and him would watch every single Jackie Chan film we could get our hands on. We were mesmerized by Jackies stunts and fights and would rewind and rewatch everything over and over.
He is mostly knew in the west by his Hollywood movies like Rush Hour or Shanghai Noon but he has alot of really great Hong Kong movies with some personal favorites being Police Story, (thats a full series of 6-7 movies with the first 4 atleast being fantastic.) Project A. Drunken Master. Armour of God, Wheels on meal and City Hunter. Like almost every Jackie Chan movie they have a great blend of his unique action comedy.
But Jackie should have been huge in the 80's

My Jackie Chan suggestions: _Rumble in the Bronx_ (1995), and _First Strike_ (1996) (AKA _Jackie Chan's First Strike_). The latter has one of his most iconic fight scenes, where one of the props is an 8-foot-tall aluminum ladder!

Jackie Chan movies are always so much fun. But if you want to see him in a serious role you should check out The Foreigner, he turns in a great dramatic performance in that and in New Police Story from 2004

A classic, all The Rush Hour movies are great and my favourite is the 2nd, but all of them are definitely worth watching.

Jackie Chan always does his own stunts, even the most dangerous ones. At the beginning, when two containers also slammed into each other with him in between, it was real. Jackie almost got killed. In Hong Kong, those high-up scenes were shot without a safety net, to save the backers' money. When Jackie came to Hollywood and saw all the precautions, he said, "Oh! So safe!"
His style is so much different from the usual martial-arts movies. In most of them, the great master is ultra-serious and ultra-graceful. Jackie Chan fights with an economy of movement, with an expression on his face that says he's either terrified or is sure he isn't going to win. Plus he always gets hurt. For real.

The other movies are good fun as well. I like the second in particular. There is also a prototype of sorts with Chris Tucker and Charlie Sheen called Money Talks. A lot more swearing and a lot less kung foo with an "on the run" thing going on. It has a special place in my heart. I can never seem to find it on blu-ray so I'm guessing maybe it's one of those forgotten gems.
Jackie Chan is Iconic and his movies were a big part of my childhood. I would recommend watching some of his other movies in your free time. "Rumble in the Bronx" is a good American Chan movie.
All 3 movies are great fun watches. I hope you watch them all. The 2nd movie is even better than the first!

The Rush Hour trilogy is probably one of my favourite trilogies out there. The movies aren't all that good, but they're all a lot of fun and so really enjoyable!

There are 3 Rush Hour movies , Rush Hour, Rush Hour 2, and. Rush Hour 3. Each are very good according to most reviews i have read or heard. Also one comment already mention it that being Jackie Chan’s movie Shanghai “Noon”is also a very good and fun movie with similar comedy to that of the Rush Hour series. Shanghai Noon does have a follow up and or sequel called Shanghai Knights. Both Shanghai Noon And Shanghai Knights pair Jackie Chan up with actor Owen Wilson in the same ay Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker were pair up in the Rush Hour trilogy.
Consider the move "Mr. Holland's Opus" to react to. A great movie and not many others have reacted to it
No, the sequels aren't as good, but you should definitely check out Shanghai Noon next! ... or whenever you're in the mood for a Western action comedy, starring Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson. It was made following the huge success of Rush Hour, and they really spared no expense in making it. :)
