How can you give such a luxury house to someone who struggles to raise her 3 children? If someone ever gifted me a Ferrari I would sell it within 24 hours.
Hey man they just remodel the existing house. The mortgage and whatever was already her noose even before they went to work on the property. Hell, she could've sold the vastly improved house for a fuckton of cash, although I'm certain there must've been some sort of contract involved that prohibited the sale of said property.
She could have just filed for a Chapter 13 bankruptcy. They take all of your debt and past mortage payments and put it into a 3-5 year repayment plan. you get to keep the house AND you get to pay off your debt interest free
There’s probably a stipulation for being on the show that you can’t sell the property for a established amount of time. Otherwise these shows would be full of Chinese real estate investors applying for free renovations to flip houses. Shows like Bar Rescue or Kitchen/hotel nightmares have contracts that the guests can’t sell the property or such for a determined amount of time to prevent the situation I stated above.
That's ridiculous. They fix your house for free! The problem with these people is that they can't afford their homes to begin with. No amount of fixing is going to change the mortgage payments. The smart thing to do is take this nice, remodeled house and sell it. People lose their homes because they have no brains.
Oh man, I remember that episode, I was about 8 years old and felt super happy for them. I hope they're safe, together, and making ends meet. I used to move a lot so I understand how hard it is to say goodbye to a home especially one with a ton of memories.
@@SOCORROSILVA-in7px my heart goes out to someone given a gift and then cant hold on to it. I think most people would have sold that house asap knowing they may not be able to afford the taxes. Thanks for explaining what may happen to the house. Please be kind to the people around you.
What do you not understand the whole make over of the house is free bit you obviously have to pay the property taxes still. She got hundreds ouf thousands in renovation fpr free
I would've just sold the house once the taxes went up and moved to a smaller house with less taxes on it. They always find a way to get you. Government is so corrupt and evil
She bought a house that needed work and was probably barely worth the 30 grand they paid for it back in the day. As a result of the show and her neighbors coming through for her, they quadrupled the value of that property, now the bank gets to reap the rewards. They didn't want to work with her because it was more profitable not to. Greed is the root of mankind's worst aspects.
She should’ve sold it and moved into something affordable, she would actually made money on it not staying and not paying taxes will get you in trouble.
It is not! This lady had a $30k mortgage. Where can you buy a house for 30k? The problem is she can't afford her property taxes. My guess would be she didn't save for property taxes. The monthly mortgage isn't enough to escrow the taxes. If she lived in the house more than 1 year she should know this, therefore it's her fault for not saving the money. The show has nothing to do with her taxes. If anything her newly built house could have raised the taxes for her neighbors because of the higher appraisal.
@@ashlynthequietkid348 ive owned 3 homes. a 30k mortgage is usually the minimum you can get if you barely make any money at all. you need about 3k in the bank and make about under a thousand a month to be approved for the minimum of 30k roughly. they factor in all this stuff when you buy a house, your taxes and etc per month. she most likely knew she wouldnt be able to afford the house and did it anyways. 3,200 sq ft is huge. most families live in 1200-1800 sq ft. 1800 is more then enough room for a family. my house is 1600 sq ft but im a collector so i have a guest room, bedroom, and then spare room is my collectables room. and i still have unused space after that
@@shereent3121 its gotta be ridiculous. i put 2 doors on my living room because i have a giant kitchen. so i blocked the kitchen off in the winter and blocked the upstairs off. have a furance upstairs and keep it off since heat rises anyways. when i go to bed turn the downstairs off and sleep in the cold . then i'll just turn the upstairs on maybe once or twice to balance things out so it isnt to dry
why is everyone blaming the show? she had 9 years to figure out she couldnt afford the taxes and sell it . they gift you a house theyre not life coaches
This is exactly why I don’t show updated photos of my home on real estate sites from the inside and backyard, they’ll just update the home assessment and charge me more in property taxes. Why should I have to pay more per month for a home I’m trying to pay off just because I want it to look nicer? Screw that.
Only in USA. You fix your home, so your property tax increases. In my southeast asian country, our property tax is not adjustable. And something people can afford.
Very true. The mortgage she had with the beauty of that house.... they're not having it! This makes me want to cry. I truly wish she could've sold it and got something out of it.
The sheriff wouldn't force them to leave belongings behind if they're actively packing up to leave. If they were just hanging out there not making any effort to get out than that's when they'd be forcibly removed.
Losing her home had nothing to do with the show “Extreme Makeover”. Also, by law, she had approximately 90 days to remove personal items, furniture & furnishings from the home before the sheriff would take any action. This took place in Michigan. I live in Michigan.
That’s why more recent car and house give aways come with the taxes payed and an additional large sum of money to pay for any other costs. That’s why HGTV houses come with $100,000
I used to watch every episode of this show. My dad always said if these people couldn't afford their old house there's no way they'd be able to afford an increase in property taxes on a brand new house. I would have sold that house and bought something cheaper.
Sensationalism. She was there for 9 years and was evicted after failed payments. She had extra equity for a few years and could have sold the house to buy something smaller. There were likely a few options she did not take and that got her into this mess.
Mistakes happen but I’m sure if the mom & those 3 boys all picked up some shifts at Popeyes it could’ve helped with the payments but who the hell should have to do that ! Just sad all the way around
well your grandma is not always right, sometimes free is the up lift people need, this family should have sold the home before the eviction and made money, sometimes people live beyond their means and get into debt they cant climb out, but sometimes free is good
brenda horn no one said grandma is always right, but paying attention to the nuances and perspectives of said ordeal was the key to my statement and key to the situation at hand. Your statement was not really warranted because I wholeheartedly agree with it anyway, (all you had to do was hit the like and subscribe button. you did exactly what the homeowner who inherited the house, not understand the totality of the circumstances, jump to a statement or conclusion by what was read or seen on the surface. The quote from my grandma was much larger than what you read and what you wasted your time typing.
She only had a 30k mortgage? Hmmm. Sounds like a predatory eviction. Someone else was eyeing the profits they could get from that house. Sad and shady.
Millions of people around the world a losing their jobs and getting evicted from their homes because the banks around the world want to screw people over that's why
Didn’t the show usually pick families that were low income and have special needs due to health reasons. Usually the makeover was not just to make a nice new house but to help out with their disabilities. I’m guessing that is why she stayed.
@MrGreyjeep why would you reject it? She could sell the house for much more than the old one. Buy a house similar to what she had before and pocket all the extra.
MrGreyjeep did you miss the part where she said at first she could afford it? Then emergencies and health? We’re all an accident or illness away from being in the same situation
I can't understand why she didn't sell the house, when she knew she was getting into trouble? She left it until things got to the point that she was so far behind, she couldn't come up with the money to pay. This is so sad, and she seems to be seriously depressed, which would account for her not dealing with the issue. So sad for her, and her sons. What a horrible outcome.
I also had that question. Certainly it was worth more now that what was paid for it. Take the profit and buy a smaller house, hopefully it will allow you to pay it off in full.
I am local. She refused to work, took a 2nd mortgage to buy quads and use for living expenses. Church put on a fundraiser and bailed her out. Took another mortgage to live off still wouldn't work, expected the church to fundraise again they said no and she couldn't pay. She was an idiot and lost it herself, it had nothing to do with taxes She could have paid if she would have gotten a job.
That 30k mortgage will turn to 1mil mortgage real quick, that’s why they wouldn’t let her work it out. She brought the value up on that property, they were biding their time waiting for her to fall short!
Delores Lola her payment went to property tax instead of loan and the 30k over 10 years compounded to an amount were the bank could sell. So the bank got the house for 30k
@Brian The Explorer economy? Tell me if im wrong, her house got reworked.. and the tax rise, she couldnt paid all of it and its stacking really high 9 yrs later until they got evicted because cant pay the tax??
Wow. I remember watching this exact episode when it came out. Even as a young kid, I wondered how these types of families afforded stuff after their dream houses were made..
MischievousMoo - The expenses couldn't have been the same unless that was a 3200 sq ft house to begin with. How would you know what the expenses were before the makeover?
ian woodfield Or move in renters to help offset some bills, or sell it proactively. It's a truly sad situation and unfortunate that she didn't take action or have the ability to come to a resolution before it was too late.
Her tax value went up astronomically when they made over her house? She couldn’t sell it. You can’t sell a 300 thousand dollar home in the middle of a neighborhood full of 75 thousand dollar homes. No one who can afford it would want to live in that neighborhood when they could be surrounded with more upscale homes of the same value as that one. It should be against the law to tax people out of their homes! 😡
I dont understand this. In the UK if the value of your home increases, your mortgage payments stay the same unless you remortgage the house. Why do they have to pay taxes because the value increased? Someone please enlighten me.
This actually happened to many of the Extreme Makeover homes. The homes were built in lower income areas, where the old house stood making them hard to sell. Then the owners were hit with property taxes were very high and many of the people who got the makeovers were having a hard time making it to begin with. It was a recipe for failure from the start.
She also could've sold the property, downsized and left with money in her pocket. She was living above her means. She really didn't need a house that big.
The show made a home for a family in my town, literally 5 minutes from my house. The dad was widowed with 3 kids. The same thing happened to them. Couldn’t afford it after awhile, and had to move. If that show really wanted to help these people in need, they should have at least paid the mortgage. The family would still have to pay rising property taxes, but at least they’d have a shot for a better life for their kids.
Fixing the house up does not increase the mortgage. She said she got behind. Called the mortgage company and could not reach an agreement. How is that the shows fault
@@patriciahall5395 Actually the homes value is appraised then the property tax is calculated using the new homes’ value. So the show put a house worth $800,000 there making her property tax go from $2,000 to $9,200 (rough estimates). She missed a few years I’m guessing of property tax (unless she opts to pay monthly, then she missed a few months) and they evicted her.
This is so sad 😔 . I didn't realize people getting those houses could lose them ...that's awful. I am a single mom it's so hard my heart breaks for them .
She didn't get the home, she already had it. Her home was remodeled. That redo probably increased its property value and, in turn, the property tax. Note, her mortgage was based on the assessed value of the house before the remodel. So she was paying far less than what the house was worth. No lending agency would try to help her underpay the house when they could foreclose and resell for a higher profit - that's just sound business.
I remember that show did a house in Irvington, NJ. I believe the town tax adjuster made a special ordinance to not raise the taxes as long as the family stayed in the house.
My dad died 42 years ago. My mom raised us all by herself and never remarried. She made the ultimate sacrifice without ever having a savings or or backup plan. We never went without our necessities. We all got our education and now we care for her after she fell and suffered traumatic brain injury. I could never do what she was able to do for us, all by herself.
This is not the first time this has happened. Since this show several people have been in foreclosure. The problem is they forget many of these people have no money or low income and some couldn't afford the utility bills. One couple who won an HGTV home in a up scale area along the coast couldn't afford the property taxes, maintenance of the landscaping or the heating. They sold the house. It is all very well and good giving a family a home, but you really have to make sure they can afford it. It makes no sense to go to all this work with the help of neighbors and friends knowing this woman didn't have much money in the first place. Either give them the house without the mortgage or don't bother at all.
Increasing the homes value increases the property taxes you have to pay as well. If they didn't have the money to pay for their house increasing the value of that house is going to further exacerbate the situation. The money spent fixing up the house would be better spent fixing the house to reduce maintenance costs for a time. But that doesn't make good TV.
It's stupid isn't it. I figured for sure that was part of it, the family in need wouldn't have a house payment. Sucks. Bet ABC got there money for making the show.
I don’t think we’re getting the whole story here. Any halfway productive adult - even with three boys - should be able to afford a $30k mortgage. Her Ford Flex and tons of stuff that she had to pack tells me the money was going everywhere except the mortgage. Don’t blame the TV show - they did something good and gave the woman an opportunity to turn it into something.
I was kind of checking out that diamond necklace and those earrings that looked like rubies. Rubies aren't cheap. Maybe they were jewelry that her husband bought though too before he died. We don't know.
Exactly what I was thinking, so much junk it looked like a hoarder house. So they weren’t taking care of the house I’ve seen pics and the grass is super long the house is a mess and they had an ugly white fridge in the living room
She probably should've planned ahead and sold the home the moment she realized that she wouldn't be able to afford keeping it. Sure it sucks, but it's better than going bankrupt.
30k mortgage, and it was 9 years ago. she couldn't manage 400$ monthly mortgage payment with teenager son's? sound like she was too busy enjoying that cow print living room....
justin g it was the property taxes that tripled that should couldn't afford. many states of a dwelling was built after a specific date say 1987 lots of things cannot be grandfathered in. I am not sure if it happened in her case but I know they do that for apartment buildings built after a certain year can see rent triple within two to three years
Maybe you guys need to re-watch from 1:05 again. She had health issues and couldn’t afford it because property taxes tripled and her mortgage company wouldn’t work with her.
May have mortgaged it again after its value increased! But she said the taxes was the issue! I feel like we pay our whole lives and nothing is really ever ours!
They did quite a few times, but not all. I'm not sure it was even the mortgage. They build such grand houses that the property taxes go from a few hundred to a few thousand a year. People have an extremely hard time paying those.
They pay off some of them. Or setup a fund to payoff the mortgage. I know they setup a fund for this black couple. But, then the man took out a loan on the house to start a bus. That failed. He made ALOT of BAD decisions, that ultimately, caused them to loose the house.
A lot of people do not know that the bigger your house and land is then the more taxes you have to pay. All the Banks do not care about your situation. They only care about getting their money. Also , since your neighbors and community were on TV and helping for free , they will not give up any of their money to help you get back on your feet. This happens every where. Because your neighbors or friends rather go on vacation then give a dine to help you out. So so sad 😭
Carolynska S yes she lives there for 9 years and she’s getting evicted. Once she got evicted the house will increase the value according to today’s market and currency
That’s not how property values work. No matter what she pays for the house, the value is always changing and keeping track with similar homes in the area. If she knew she couldn’t afford it, she should have sold it and taken the equity to buy a smaller, more manageable home.
Yes the financial company knew they can sell that house for much more. Besides it was a very expensive bold gesture to remodel, did u see the before pics? Those pics alone say she could not afford this elaborate remodeled house.
Failure to pay property taxes should never result in the loss of one's property: failure to pay a mortgage? Yes. However, property taxes? No. If a property owner gets behind then they should be forced to be put on a payment plan or even a lien without loss of property as the consequence. This makes property "ownership" in America a scam as you never own it if someone (the govt) can come along and take it at a specified time.
Descaas Tribe Proud Exactly what I was thinking. The government is literally kicking her out of her home because they didn't get paid, a situation that would not have been the case had the house remained in the poor shape it was before. Government greed and overreach at its finest.
Descaas Tribe Proud the sad reality is none of us actually own our homes. maybe the stuff in it. but the home itself and the land it sits on is allways owned by (the queen) government. atleast atleast here in Canada. if something goes down like a war, or extreme terrorist attack and if they need your land for whatever reason your out. alot of people will say I don't know what I'm talking about. but I know things that aren't common knowledge. things they hide from the public. 1500 slaves had it better then us, because atleast they had nothing . we work to have everything, and in a flash it's down the toilet
@@mamoochie7392 Have you ever traded in a car? How about selling something with more value than what you have left to pay. You use the money from the sale to finish paying off the cost, then pocket the rest.
It was her taxes that tripled due to all the home improvements. No one informs these families that yes, indeed their taxes will always increase, as their home is no longer the humble home they once owned. The video didn't explain why she didn't sell the home, or did she try and there were no buyer's?
John Doe why blame the mortgage company? They gave her the money on the promise of repayment. Crappy things happen to good people all the time. Instead of clinging to something she couldn’t pay for she should have sold it for a huge profit. It sad they waited as long as they did, but it’s not the mortgage company.
The show doesn’t set them up...they have to be smart enough to stay out of a situation like that. The old saying goes “Life is hard...It’s harder if you’re stupid”.
MBLR Studios It doesn't matter when you cannot afford to pay your mortgage. Renting this massive house out and finding a cheaper place was her best choice.
MBLR Studios rent is not actually throwing your money away, yes it may increase your taxes (idk), but you get free and it is easier and faster to move out of a rental house.
It takes up to 2 years too evict you from your primary home she had it for nine years she knew what the mortgage and taxes were. Being evict like that means she hasn't paid mortgage for at least two years. There's more going on than what she's telling us
I completely agree. I know people who weren't foreclosed for 10 years, living mortgage/rent free all those years. This woman could have rented rooms or sold the house, bought a smaller house and save the rest of the money for emergencies, kids education, etc- there's a lot to this story not being told
As far as I know, I believe she was evicted because of Taxes. She was paying the mortgage but the new property tax was beyond her scope of affordability.
Not true, different jurisdictions have different laws. Different mortgage companies have different policies. Technically, you can foreclose being just 1 payment behind.
@@MosiJae in what state do they foreclose after one payment? it takes a while. there's a process and it takes time to even get a court date. Even renters. they can start eviction, but they must give a certain amount of 10 days - 2 weeks before the landlord papers can even be admitted in court.
9 years to realize you can't afford it. Months to realize the bank is taking it. No idea bow much time before the sheriff gets there. Does she not do anything while the days pass around her?
9 years?? it didnt triple the property tax in the 1st year you jerk. yeah lets just forget her husband gave his life to save others and not try to take care of his family.
I feel so bad for her and her family... That show had nightmares with other families too!!!! I hope you find a nice place to live.. Love from Michigan....🌲🌲🌲... 🙏🙏😢😢....
Minechef So instead of packing herself up during the AT LEAST 30 days notice she received, she waited until the last minute and expects someone to come save her AGAIN. Pretty sure the reporters and crew from Inside Edition aren’t being paid to be movers. SMDH.
Ella Marie they said that the taxes went up, that’s why she fell behind. Once those taxes start rising, if you’re not ready for it, it’s easy to fall behind on payments.
Joy Holmes but a $30,000 mortgage over the course of 10-12 years?? Tripling taxes wouldn’t yield more than a $50 increase in monthly payment. You could work at McDonald’s two days a week for a month and still cough up enough to make that payment.
Her gofundme says a car accident put her behind on payments, says nothing about taxes being an issue. The house was foreclosed at 30k mortgage in 2017 and apparently she tried to buy the house back at 100k, turning to gofundme for help, but lost it again. I feel for her, but I think this is someone who relies heavily on luck and the kindness of others.
She should have sold it and moved into a smaller more affordable home when she started struggling. You need to be proactive in these types of situations as hard as it is.
Maybe her and her kids had too much emotional attachment to the house and the memories they made. Sure it’s not the most financially responsible choice but she probably wanted to keep it for as long as she could.
@@amorfm4071 She had no where for her and her kids to go. She lost everything including a lot of stuff in the house. If she would have sold it and downsized she could have taken their personal belongings and had a home for her and her kids. Now they have nothing and their in a worse situation, at some point as a parent you need to do the responsible thing no matter how hard it is. If she would have made it ok her kids would have been ok.
@Valetta Steele As a homeowner you can’t be forbidden to sell your home, however there could be some sort of a penalty stipulation such as a contract stating that if the home is sold before a certain amount of time the amount of the makeover could be taken out of the proceeds. However, I don’t believe that is the case. They do not pay the balance of the mortgage on this show and a lot of what is done is donated.
This is ridiculous. You can't afford taxes on a $30,000 mortgage. You have to GET A JOB! The taxes can't be that much. It sounds like she got used to handouts and stopped trying to provide for herself.
I did a little research, I thought her mortgage was $30K a year, and said to myself. She's living above her income. However it turns out the $30K was the TOTAL DEBT. That pencils out to $250.00 a month for the past (10) years. Less taxes, insurance, and upkeep. I know HOMELESS panhandlers that could afford that easily. SORRY she lost her husband, and the boys lost their Dad. We hear of tragedy on a daily basis. I've never lived in a house that nice, and I consider myself successful, and financially rich. NO TEARS from my post... The kids seem to have PLENTY of possessions, Mom didn't know how to PRIORITIZE.
Considering how much this house would cost after the makeover, if she didn’t have the heart to sell the house, what she should’ve done is turn it into an investment by moving to a more affordable housing option and using using this house as an Air B&B rent it out as a vacation home and act as the landlady of the property. At least she would’ve made money in the process.
I’m sure there were lots of solutions. We often find ourselves in trouble though. It’s also easier to see solutions for other people. This women seems isolated I hope she finds community where ever she will now live
She couldn’t afford the home anymore !!! What do you people not get ! Listen ! She stated her mortgage was to expensive and was evicted ! Simple as that she doesn’t own that home she can’t sell it or keep it as an air bnb
@@destineeherrera well that and she had several unexpected emergencies she said as well! Majority being health reasons! This just shows how much this country values MONEY over our HEALTH. Yes people.. this is life. Looks real happy and dreamy on tv until the real world hits you. We went through a similar situation with our mortgage. Thank god we had money saved up. Hopefully her family makes it through this
Yeah, we too almost lost our $300.000 house, over 3 last due mortgage bills that at that moment we couldn't afford at all (we both lost our jobs 3 months earlier, and not by own choice but by sudden bankruptcy of the companies we were working for). On the very last day - and I really do mean the very last day before eviction - the bank finally gave in - we went above and beyond to convince them - and they gave us a new small new loan with easier terms, that we were able to pay off without a problem. But if the bank had said no that last day an entire family - including an 85 year old woman - would have literally been put on the streets without any shown remorse. WE were one of the lucky ones, but millions of other people aren't that lucky and end up in the system without knowing what their future will look like.
@ama Iso What has The Orange Idiot to do with this or this conversation? Absolutely nothing, so go have a seat and start using that brain of yours properly again.
They set her up to fail. They went too far overboard with the makeover. Why couldn't they just give her a remodeled version that was less spectacular. Utility bills alone had to be enormous. Such a shame.
Jenny Sands Overall I agree with you. You seem like a person who really takes responsibility for their actions. I admire that! It's an attitude I need to adopt more.
@ I used to not understand that either. The WHY is because the improvements either raise the value of the property i.e. a swimming pool, OR adds square footage to the house, i.e a larger bedroom or second story. Anything done INSIDE the house that doesn't change or add to the outside structure like a kitchen renovation wont raise the property taxes. In some states even adding an outside awning can raise your property tax. Before you add to your house ALWAYS find out what your county conciders a structure or a structural change. This happened to my uncle. He bought a house without a pool. He added an in ground pool. His property tax went through the ROOF. But to be fair we live in California where they squeeze every dime they can outta you.

@@ellnine66 Funny it happened in CA since it has low property taxes but then again CA loves loves loves taxing its people. Definitely going to check with my local county to see how much doing this will raise my taxes
I've got my answer. I always wondered what happened to the people who couldn't do the upkeep and everything on these houses. Some of those contestants I knew would have trouble doing. They didn' t consider the income these people had , opposed to the upgrade of the house. I thought house taxes, but I didn' t know they had to do a mortgage.😪
My coworker told me her classmate had won a few years ago and they were on the local news being evicted here in Georgia. Seems like the show was counter productive. Blessing and a curse.
Wow! Seems very predatory. They put a lien she can’t pay off easily and then go behind her and take it. So you can’t trust a “helping hand” from just anyone. They made money from airing that show but it seems the funding arrangement was never in her favor.
That show has had so many complaints filed against it and watchdog groups speak out against the shows policies and practices that I am surprised the show has remained so popular. I stopped watching when he redid the house for the family with all those foster care children. I just couldn't stomach watching another vulnerable family potentially going south. It just took the fun out of knowing so many have played Russian Roulette and lost.

That's what I told my ex. We split up because of money. He had the nerve to ask me for $100,000 loan after I had only been seeing him for 2 months. He told me he was trying to buy his house and I said well if he can't afford to live here anymore, you need to move. His excuse was that he had a whole bunch of stuff in his house from when he used to own a comic book store. Okay, so you put that stuff in storage and move. I think he was too egotistical to move out of that house. He just wanted to be able to say that he lived in this nice house with all of his material stuff. That was a huge turn off.

As someone who is homeless I can tell you that the moving van is only going to storage and when you put stuff in storage you don’t get it until you move somewhere else . When you’re homeless you only take what you can and put the rest somewhere that’s safe.
Never buy a home that's too big for you. At the end of the day, you can only be in one room at a time. Never live above your means. That is the number 1 rule.
The banks have SO many houses on their hands right now they don't look to "take" peoples houses. This is just a case of the way things go, she should have sold the minute she found out how much the new taxes would be.
@@djlawlz4041 you can't blame the show for her being an idiot. Why not sell the house right after and cash it out? Go by a different house with less property tax
Step up? They gave her a house that was tenfold more than she could afford and now you want them to 'step up'? What would you suggest they do now, give her an even bigger house? That's the problem with giving people what they didn't earn, they tend to ask for more.
She should have sold the second she saw the how much that house would cost year to year. Expenses go up, they never go down. If someone gives you a beautiful home, sell as soon as the market is right!

This show was heavily criticized for the whole concept of going big without considering how the hell homeowners could afford it moving forward.

She bought a house that needed work and was probably barely worth the 30 grand they paid for it back in the day. They didn't want to work with her because it was more profitable not to. Greed is the root of mankind's worst aspects.
When you fix up your house, they raise the value and then the taxes go up. This should be built into the reno's/TV show contract.

This actually happens to a lot of families who've had their house redone by this show.
Also , since your neighbors and community were on TV and helping for free , they will not give up any of their money to help you get back on your feet. This happens every where.
Because your neighbors or friends rather go on vacation then give a dine to help you out.
So so sad 😭
Then they aren't too bright.
Yes!!!!!!!!
“They can take the house but not the memories”
That’s... just heartbreaking to hear.
“First she lost her husband now she’s losing her house” I know that must really be tough & suck 🥺😭
The husband situation wasn’t her fault but the house….
Not really heartbreaking. Some people need to learn the hard way
They wanted her to move so they could raise the cost! Big ass scheme along with greed
HUH?
That's just sick!
Her taxes were probably wrapped into her mortgage. It's not uncommon.
Descaas Tribe Proud You realize most mortgages include the property tax. Therefore, if you don't pay your mortgage you do not pay the property tax.
She should have put in on the market to counter the property tax. It's sad tho
I said this from the beginning. They didnt need a Huge house that they couldnt afford.
The problem is they didn’t makeover her home, they did a make over on the banks home
EXACTLY what the mortgage was the only 30k! That's nothing. I still don't understand how property taxes went up 3 times?
And everyone’s saying “why didn’t she sell it?”, how tf do you sell something you haven’t even paid for yet?
@@mamoochie7392 Have you ever traded in a car? How about selling something with more value than what you have left to pay. You use the money from the sale to finish paying off the cost, then pocket the rest.

Congratulations to the mortgage company. You guys have done it again.
It was her taxes that tripled due to all the home improvements. No one informs these families that yes, indeed their taxes will always increase, as their home is no longer the humble home they once owned. The video didn't explain why she didn't sell the home, or did she try and there were no buyer's?
She coulda sold the home, at least she would get something.
Holt Michigan robs you blind in always doubling property taxes and such. I moved out of Holt because of this and live in the next county over now.
If you double or triple the value of a home your double or triple the taxes you pay on such property.
John Doe why blame the mortgage company? They gave her the money on the promise of repayment. Crappy things happen to good people all the time. Instead of clinging to something she couldn’t pay for she should have sold it for a huge profit. It sad they waited as long as they did, but it’s not the mortgage company.

Should've moved and rented the house
FullBattleRattle 249 That's what I was thinking.
FullBattleRattle 249 rent is throwing your money away
MBLR Studios It doesn't matter when you cannot afford to pay your mortgage. Renting this massive house out and finding a cheaper place was her best choice.
MBLR Studios It's better than buying a house only if you want to save.
MBLR Studios rent is not actually throwing your money away, yes it may increase your taxes (idk), but you get free and it is easier and faster to move out of a rental house.
Let this be a lesson. If you can't afford a home, sell it before you lose everything. Don't fall into debt over something you can downsize.
It takes up to 2 years too evict you from your primary home she had it for nine years she knew what the mortgage and taxes were. Being evict like that means she hasn't paid mortgage for at least two years. There's more going on than what she's telling us
I completely agree.

God Emperor 350$ a month, even at loan shark rates.
I’m wondering if she borrowed on the equity in the house and couldn’t pay it back? Something’s not adding up with this story.
Paul Monaco is this true? If it is what a dumb mom
Agreed. No sympathy from me, either.
Paul Monaco, $250.00 a month! 30.000.00 total debt! I'm stunned. I could pay the $30.000.00 at one shot. What is wrong with this woman!
what about properties taxes and utilities?
Agreed.

Yes people.. this is life. Looks real happy and dreamy on tv until the real world hits you. We went through a similar situation with our mortgage. Thank god we had money saved up. Hopefully her family makes it through this
True fact.

They set her up to fail.
They went too far overboard with the makeover.
Why couldn't they just give her a remodeled version that was less spectacular.
Utility bills alone had to be enormous. Such a shame.
No one else had that problem. She could have sold if she couldn’t afford a 30k mortgage over 30 years but she didn’t. Sounds like bad money habits.

Well, that de-escalated quickly.
people forget that renovations to houses and additions will make the taxes go up.
i know that is true but I don't know WHY that's true.
"Hey you fixed up your house, nice. We're gonna raise your taxes now"
@ I used to not understand that either.
