A head up of the company, usually the CEO, will pretend to be an entry level worker with a once in a lifetime opportunity to try out all of the positions within a certain career path (whatever his/her company does - mail delivery, fast food, septic, road cleaning, etc.)... everybody training the boss knows they are on camera because they think they are a part of a show trying to discover which entry level job suits the "newbie" best. That is why they do not question the cameras and are not suspicious - also why nobody gets sued for filming without permission. At the end of the show, all of the people who trained the undercover boss meet up at the company's headquarters in order to give their personal opinion on whether or not they think he/she can do whatever job they trained the boss in. That is when they find out it was the CEO the entire time!!! It is both funny and nerve wracking because sometimes their cover is blown. Its just a PR stunt from the boss, otherwise why film it. Like how people film themselves giving money to the homeless. The end result is good but the motivation is selfish.
They're all over the place. Stop buying into the narrative of "ceo = money hungry psychopath". It's a false narrative. It applies sometimes, let me explain. When you have that image in your head, what you're really imagining are Fortune 500 companies that have CEOs who had nothing to do with the founding of the company. Those CEOs are usually brought in after the company is already publicly traded on the stock market and the company itself has been sold. Now those companies sole function is to generate stock value for shareholders. This is where the greed and money-hunger comes in. The CEO of a small business is typically the founder of the business. Starting a business does not in any way, shape, or form indicate greed or psychopathy. These are the folks that literally built the world around you that you get to live in while criticizing them inside of an ignorant, baseless, fact-less echo chamber perpetuating this false narrative. It's something you heard, and are now regurgitating without ever having seriously thought about the issue. Don't be that guy.
Great he made 1 worker in his massive company better. But he didn't fix any of the problems that made his worker get 2 jobs or financially suffer. In the end there are no good ceos. At the end where the guy breaks down a bit, you get a glimpse of something that most men keep hidden from their families, and that is the stress and burden of responsibility that many men carry silently and don't burden their loved ones with. Responsible men have to work, there is no one ready to take them in and do for them, it's up to them alone.
There's something really profound when you see two hard working men shed a tear over something like this. The joy and relief of one man, trying so hard to hold it in. The tears from the other man seeing how happy the other is, and feeling something from it too.
@@JoeKnows44 my father ran businesses when i was a kid. He worked 90 hour weeks, and worse during the 08 housing crisis. He employed 180 men who all were able to provide well for their families. This is a great man. He has a great personality and excellent work ethic. Stays positive and is family oriented. ANY company on Earth would vastly improve itself having this man as an employee.
It's sad that some companies hire people that do not belong in that position. I was a Senior Team Lead at American Recovery and assisted in about 100 interviews just for customer service people. The 15 people that I went to bat for, which nobody else had high on their list all got hired and all were still employed by the company when I left (approx 4-6 years that I had input on hiring). I made a heck of a talent scout and you can tell by what people say whether or not they are good people. If they just come at me with normal answers that they got online to say before the interview I would check to see if they were nervous. You can tell all from sweat, stuttering, body language ect ect. Around a 1/3rd of the people I went to bat for were very nervous, and usually it means that they don't want to mess up because they REALLY WANT that job. The ones that sound like they do interviews every day and are too comfortable I take another look at their work history to see how long they are at each position.

Leadership and employee retention is huge. Also, this is a good boss to work for who obviously understands the importance of his employees. Seems like they’re both great dudes.
A good boss does not pay people so poorly that they can’t afford basic necessities on 60-80hours of weekly pay. I’m absolutely floored at how many of the people watching this do not understand that. The employees do the work that brings in all of the money. The boss is a networker and organizer. Think about what it means for one person to exploit another person to that degree.
@@theonejokeking3191 Regardless of the system, there will always be someone at the top of the pyramid. There are numerous cases where the person at the top worked their way from the bottom, or formed the company to begin with. Also, if an employee is not happy with "being exploited", they should work somewhere else. If they simply can't work somewhere else, it means they didn't adequately prepare themselves for life, or to live within their means. But it's so easy to blame someone else; the world is full of self-proclaimed victims.
@@theonejokeking3191 The boss also has the responsibility for the jobs, pays for the advertising, the office staff, the office rental, utilities, insurance, training/standards, hiring, firing, ensuring employees are competent, licensing, permits, the company vehicles, the equipment, the accounting, all the myriad of other things required to run a business which the employee has no responsibility for. The employer is the one who takes the risks starting with his initial investment and building of the business, creating a customer base, and so forth. The employee supplies LABOR, and takes no risk, bears none of the financial responsibility. There is no "exploitation"- especially since the employee is free to leave for another job at pretty much any time, as well as accept or decline when t hey are offered the position in the first place. If you don't like the pay/compensation you are free to go elsewhere. Your view is so simplistic as to be childish.
@@theonejokeking3191 Joe is paying off debts HE incurred. A boss doesn't need to pay ends meet including self incurred debts. There comes a point of personal responsibility. This boss went the extra mile to help. He's a good boss.
And let’s also acknowledge that, for the boss, this reward is enlightened self-interest. This employee is now going to have nothing but praise for this company to all his colleagues, and will be working harder than ever to motivate them to do better and try harder. This is how companies should be run, but big corporates are dysfunctional and out of touch with the lives of the people they employ. If you want loyalty and commitment, EARN it by taking an interest in and making an equal commitment to, your people!
One of the very best outcomes I've ever seen on Undercover Boss, he's a well-deserved humbled young man, and I thank God he was recognized of his hard work and talent. 💟
99.99999% of the time, that type of gift from an employer only happens on TV. I seen a guy do our floor with a broken knee. Told me it's slowing him down and he's in lots of pain. Told me he had to keep working to pay his rent. Single dad with 2 kids. Come to find out he was fired for being to slow on the job. 😂
You do realize that not all business owners are in a position to do things like this for their employees, right? Not saying I agree with an employer not taking an injury into account, but especially for a small business, time is money is not just a cliche. It's the gospel truth. Be angry at the situation all you like, it doesn't change the rule of economics, which governs us all.
Of course this stuff is on TV cause it makes great ratings, and I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of that gift money was fronted by the network. However I know local small business owners that have done similar things on a smaller scale for some of their employees. So it does happen, you just don't hear about it.
I've put my neck out on the chopping block for many guys. A decent human being will recognize potential. If upper management can't see the whole picture, then to hell with them. I'll lose my job to help a good man. There's plenty of work out there.
The company I work for had a flood and Belfor came in. I work with dementia pts. the Belfor crew was so respectful and kind to them. THEY WERE AWESOME!!
As a supervisor, I always loved to see an employee that took ownership of jobs and saw them through to completion. I would always represent for those people whenever I could. Get them raises and promotions. As a boss, they made me look better as well.
This worker deserves this. So many companies don't care about the workers. Thank you for what you just did for this single father. You won't be sorry. He deserves the help and you will have a great loyal employee.
Great employee, great boss. It's wonderful to see an employee so dedicated to excellence and hard work, and even more wonderful to see a boss who values such an employee. Congratulations to both the employee and the company.

I don't care if it is scripted or not. I love to see someone worthy get acknowledged and given the opportunity to aspire to something greater. Well done that man!
Idk how scripted this show is. I know that the outcomes are real, and I know that some CEOs make genuine changes. When I worked at OfficeDepot, we tried to get the CEO on. Undercover Bosses actually reached out but he declined, then in the next company wide call, he chastised all the bottom line employees for trying to “throw him to the wolves for their 5 minutes of fame” and then took away our bonuses. Great guy
@@bernie4366 Yep. This was a few years back like 2018. But yes, that's the guy. He did a lot of "cost restructuring" which is code for killing our bonus/incentive structure so the top execs can stay rich.
Man I felt that "here is my daughter". You could feel the stoicism, the drive to provide was palpable and yet he gives a good example to his daughter by having her make him lunch for a dollar. He chose to be a good example not only to his daughter, but also to the new guy he barely knew. There is nothing free in life and he embodies it all. He pushed through, overcame hardship and provides. That is what a good man is and does. And yet he is not without emotion when he received his bonus and the burden on his shoulder was lifted by a ton.
Good thing that guy had pictures of his kids on hand sitting out on the ground in front of him when asked what motivates him to work hard. Totally believable and relatable to situations I have come across.
wish we had more bosses like this. i had my CEOs "right hand man" stop by my shop last week. we had been going through changes in our shop. long story short, he stopped by my department and we discussed the pros and cons of the changes. and on friday i was fired... for giving my opinion... gotta love the average work experience...
Maybe- and don’t think I’m attacking you- you didn’t understand the real purpose of that conversation. The way you describe it that “we had been going through changes in our shop,” then the boss’s Number 2 shows up and you “discussed the pros and cons of the changes,” sounds a lot like you misunderstood what was happening. Changes were being made. It wasn’t a discussion they wanted. They came to tell you how things were changing and what the benefits were, and that turned into an apparent discussion of pros and cons, which means you were disagreeing with the direction they planned to take the company in. Or it was the other way and you were carrying out changes that they saw cons in but you argued for the pros. Either way, it sounds a lot like they sent the boss’s right hand man over to make sure you were on board, and you “gave your opinion.” Sorry, but when you’re not in charge sometimes that’s not what they’re looking for. They want an employee, not a business partner. Every employee’s opinion on how the business should be run isn’t that important. If they get let go over it, it probably wasn’t the first time an “opinion” was being shared that your bosses were not happy with. Sometimes, just saying, you have to do what your boss asks without talking back to them.
@@Tmb1112 he asked for our opinions on the changes. and the reality of it was he wanted us to keep between 800-1000 of our products packaged and ready to ship. they are not small products, a pallet would hold 22-30 of them and you can't stack the pallets. the storage area we were given to store those products would only hold about 15 pallets, and was shared with another department. that was the only CON I had mentioned. I wasn't arguing with anything, the only thing I stated was we needed more storage space to keep the number on hand that was desired. And if you're a boss, and you don't want to actually know peoples opinions, then don't ask. I love the company that I had been working for, it was fantastic. The bigger company that bought it was your typical corporate crap everyone has to put up with. Owner promised everyone raises, no one got them, promised stock incentive, never given out, straight up lying to employees. Even made the claim "if you work here for more than ten years I'll make you a millionaire". It is what it is and I'm happier now that I don't have to deal with it. And to the point you were making, yes I know, most bosses just want "yes" men that don't ever question them.
This is a guy so positive and good hearted that he wastes no time sheding tears. And you can see him fighting so hard with every muscle on his face. But it simply was too much for him at the end and had to break that seal for a moment. What a great guy. Awesome boss too

This is so heartwarming...more bosses need to go back to the start so they can feel what there employees that are loyal go through just to stay afloat... success is not on a spreadsheet it's good people just trying to survive staying loyal ....in the end we deserve to be rewarded and our overall concerns taken seriously
This sort of stuff warms my heart and makes the tears otherwise familiar with sadness and pain, to be of warmth and infectious joy. I am very grateful these types of people continue to prosper.
Finally, a boss who really does step up when he sees something awesome in an employee. Not just some token “training”, or some vacation… But a real opportunity and real help!
This show gets me every single time, every time. I was raised in a family where the men took showers at the end of the day, not necessarily to start the day off. We were poor, we were proud, we knew hard work, but we also knew that hard work could pay off other's debts unless we were mindful. Kudos to good employees and great employers

Good thing happen to good people. GREAT things happen to GREAT people. Bravo, Bravo! Loyal employees are impossible to find, but when you do never forget what you have.
Pity it takes a show like this to make employers realise who works for them and how valuable their staff are. Employers should be getting out of their offices regularly to see what is actually happening at ground level.
It's staged. Real life employers are motivated to pay less than what their workers are worth because that's how revenue is generated. If a company normally operated like the one in the video, it would go out of business in a hurry.
Incorrect there is a well known company where the ceo cut his pay and raised all of his lower employees pay by a massive margin. And suprise surprise happy workers make for good business interactions which creates more clients.
It just takes one decent person to give a person this kind of break/earned break and it really will change his life and his kids lives. I only wish there were more people like the Boss /owner that would do this for people that work that hard and cant get ahead of it. Respect and dignity right there man.
@ 2:49 Take a look at the boss's face. Imagine the pleasure it brings one decent person to reward the hard work and knowledge and experience of *another* decent person by sharing. No good deed is ever wasted because it affects everyone involved. Not only the recipient. Do what you can when you can.

That’s what most of us are. Incredible boss that actually cares about his people as people and not assets.
He'll likely get canceled for being too normal.

There's something really profound when you see two hard working men shed a tear over something like this. The joy and relief of one man, trying so hard to hold it in. The tears from the other man seeing how happy the other is, and feeling something from it too.
Where was the second hard working guy?

@@JoeKnows44 such a childish take. Most CEO’s weren’t just gifted that position for nothing. It’s a ton of hard work involved. Long hours.

It’s good to see others seeing the value in people, and then going on to assist them further.
You just finally earned my respect @Balfor. Thank you for taking care of our Service Communities.

So wonderful to see the owner of a company take care of hardworking employees and make them feel valued. He will work even harder for him.
It's cheap advertisement I assume.
That's disgusting. Bloody bosses need to be kneecapped see how they like it.
I am also addicted to seeing great CEOs like this one go to great lengths and exhibit extraordinary generosity towards an deserving employee.
As a supervisor, I always loved to see an employee that took ownership of jobs and saw them through to completion. I would always represent for those people whenever I could. Get them raises and promotions. As a boss, they made me look better as well.

Hope you got a better job now.
Sorry man. 😔
I'm sorry! 😔
