My Dad Bought A Wrecked 2023 GMC Duramax Denali At A Copart Auction! Part 1

- My Dad made a big decision at a Copart auction without looking at what he was actually buying. He bought a wrecked 2023 GMC Duramax Denali that literally just left the dealership lot 3 weeks ago.. I was super excited for him until we found out what really was wrong with his new GMC Duramax...
WHAT DO YOU THINK HAPPENED TO THIS TRUCK FOR IT TO BE THIS BAD??

It found a deberti😅
I don't care but this is darn funny to me. Can't wait for the pull off.
@@chaddjayne4238 Thanks chadd, oh you know thats happening !

might be worth chatting with him
Dude you don’t know how lucky you are to still have your dad around. I miss my dad so much
Amen brother , lost mine when I was 13. And my mom.
Lost mine at 8 and had to learn everything by myself. A mentor would have been a huge help but I learned from my many mistakes.
Agreed!👍🇺🇸
Me too James. Miss mine as well
Yeah man, I miss my Dad everyday.
That Father & Son Relationship is a beautiful thing, and the fact that you guys are sharing it with thousands of people is a blessing. 🙏
And that 2023 GMC your Dad got is crazy bad ass man. Congratulations.
thanks a lot Man. we have a fun time together for sure!
I gotta say that i think its really great that this kid and his father have such a genuine and healthy-loving relationship.
I could literally hear the love and happiness in the fathers voice when he said that its exactly what he wanted but the best part about it is he gets to do all the work with his son ❤️ friggn awesome man 👌 💯
you sentimental fool.
I'm 55 and I've watched you guys for a few years. The relationship you all have is way above average for a Father/Son, cherish it. My dad went home in 2000 and I miss him every day. Also V-Tuned has a channel and does frames.
Goonzquad has a frame table
@@dakotashagena3363 But they lack the skill of V-tuned.
My dad is transgendered. He can't even understand my chasing of (actual) women. He also understands next to nothing about cars.
@@Network126 that’s unfortunate
@@gackleballsg2034 Indeed. He paints his nails and wears dresses. It makes me cringe.
Knowing what a frame swap is like on a late model truck, I think I would take it to a shop with a good frame table and have them rack it and see how bad it actually is before going with the frame swap.
I Agree 100% just cuz looks bad don’t mean it can’t be pulled back into frame tolerance an should be fine! Old School guys did it all time. Fixer up an fk it up again is Motto my Body Shop buddy use to Say to the Drunks that wrecked them all time!
AMEN! I've done some of these frame swaps and helped out on others. They are NO FUN!!
@@billt9456 I did a frame swap on a 2016 F-250 6.7L and I will never do that shit again, no matter how much money I can save.
Totally agree, have a specialist look at it, then make a decision based on their experience. To me it looks like a fairly simple pull for a good frame shop.
100% correct!
Brother I’m a frame tech we work on these all the time and what that looks like to me is a little frame repair probably set u back one day to fix you don’t need to get a new frame that is just so much work it will never be like factory all the bolts we need to get re torqued clips will be Broken it’s just not worth doing a whole frame their is so much things that can go wrong. Just my peice of advise
Just found your channel
My dad and I use to work on his corvette, road runner and Honda motorcycle. We always wanted to rebuild stuff like this.
He passed away when I was 18 in the bay in NJ. It brings tears to my eyes to see you working with your father and wish I had. Hopefully I can learn and do it with mt kids.
Stay blessed and grateful. Your luckier than you’ll ever know!
The good thing about doing the frame swap with the truck being so new is there should be no rust, stuck bolts, etc. So the frame swap should in theory go pretty quick once the box & cab come off.
You guys really are father son goals! Wish me and my dad had your guys relationship and do what you guys do for a living. Much props to you both
I agree 💯 %!!!
If my old man was still around, this would be our DREAM setup... BOTH of us..
This is going to be a fun series to follow. I did a frame swap on an 80’s C10 when I worked for a body shop. Not nearly as complex as a new truck but was not as bad as I thought. And like yours, that truck was almost new when it was wrecked. You guys got this!
I did a frame swap sometime back. Just take your time and it will be fine. Enjoy the time you have together. May God bless everyone!
Bro be thankful for a dad like that. Me and my kid are like this. Wish my dad would’ve been like this
Same
nice to see people having Fun, go for it!!!
@DeBerti, first time watching you video but keen so see the outcome!
As long as you keep the attitude that projects like this = CONTENT, it lessons the blow!
Dad just wants to be like you when he grows up 😂
Brad they are made to bend there during an impact. When wheels or suspension and front frame takes a hit that section of frame will usually always get pushed in. I have pulled many many truck frames back out from same issue. Good frame guy with a strong frame straightener can pull it out for you. Just make sure they always pull enough so back wheels track correctly with front.
I agree with Nick. I worked in collision for 20-plus years and ten of that was crawling around a couple of chief EZ liner frame machines. I have straightened much much worse than that. Some of the frames I straightened, shouldn't have been straightened, but that was what the insurance adjuster wanted. You can fire up the rosebuds and heat those frames up 2A dull red without them losing too much structural integrity.
I agree would have frame wracked the truck and got it straight and re-enforced with less time doing the frame swap. They are engineer to be pulled to a certain degree. Yes you are correct new frame better but a straighten properly works also.
Man. I hardly comment on these u tubes. but you my man--- Brad ARE A GREAT SON! What a great friendship you have with your dad.
I am 56 years old and still have my dad. His memory is better than mine. His body at 84 might not be as robust. But I thank God everyday for having him around still!! Cool rebuild!
Cool truck, gonna be an epic frame swap project! Can’t wait to see what you decide and do with it! Huge fan!
When your dad is just your best friend but you still have mad respect for him and so does he🥺 man I love these two gents here 🤞🏾plus they make badass content 😎.
Haven't seen you since the TV show!.Glad you are back!

Swapping frames is very labor intensive. I’ve done it before. But it’s not super hard. Especially with your lift. And that everything will come off easy. I had 40 hrs by myself swapping one out. Good buy!!!
As long as I do not have to give the massages |I am fine with it. lol. bUT LIKE YOU SAID A LOT OF WORK.
Lol, good buy 😂
Regardless of the damage, it’s going to be a great build to watch don’t be disappointed.👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Just found your channel, great project, really looking forward to the rebuild, all the best from New Zealand
New SUBSCRIBER here!!! First video and I love it
I’m so excited to watch you guys rebuild this truck. You can do it.
This is going to be interesting, a truck that new and how frames are these days I think you're on the right track even with the fact it's going to take forever. unless things financially crash real hard in a recession, the only thing I see happening to used truck prices is up and it could soon make a big profit if you wanted out. That was hard watching your dads excitement go from great deal ,easy fix to basically "thats not going to buff out with the best McGuire's polishing compound". Good luck and take care guys.
You couldn’t be more wrong with the market. Anything over 25k is crashing in price at the moment. The time of vehicles gaining equity is over.
This is the first video of yours I’ve ever seem but I love y’all’s relationship it’s cool as fuck you said “ should we tow wit with my truck” and your dads like “yes!!!!!!” 😂 that’s a sub for me

Man I was surprised to see they can get that frame in a week. Hopefully that is true and comes in a week because I can't wait to watch this build. I have this exact truck so pretty interesting to see you rebuild it.
The man said frame rail a frame rail equals one side the definition of a frame is the entire frame it's in in its entirety with crossmembers in place a way different deal than just a frame rail
@@lesr5737 you are wrong. Whole frame
The best part about this channel is the father son relationship. Miss my dad ❤️
Hi guys I stumbled onto this video Sunday before football .watched the whole thing and hooked .subscribed but now I NEED to see the rebuild lol .I'm ready to watch it over the bills Bengals game ...LMAO
Son and Dad= SAVAGE! Thats amazing that GM even sells a frame, let alone one for less than 4K. I would go for it myself! SUBBED!
Personally me i would not buy from auction vehicles. unless you have the money and time to repair a turd and make it shine all the way.
Looks to me like he hit a curb going pretty quick because of how your tire is popped. There’s a hole in your side wall that’s massive telling me that the pressure in the tire was too great and it blew out. Also I love how your mom walked in and wasn’t even surprised at all to hear that your dad got a new truck😅
I agree. No other sheet metal damage that I saw. Front suspension took the impact through the rim. Surprised the rim isn't broken.
He hit a big curb HAULING AZZ…..!!
This was a one vehicle reckless drive incident.
That would explain the airbag deployment and lack of any other exterior damage.
Can you say dad changed his mind lol wow good luck brad! I just took my cab off frame just 6 bolts 2020 Silverado duramax funny
Great buy, I got a 2022 1500 trail boss from copart doing the same thing. I bought it and haven't done anything yet. Just getting the list ready. But as far as frame with a lift the cab will come right off. I have done a few engines in the 6.6 and pulled the cab off to take the engine out.
You might want to check all the seat belts because they have automatic belt tighten device in a accident. They are rebuildable but I can’t remember the name of the company at the moment. I’m sure it is easily findable though. I have replaced two pickup frames and with the two post lift you have it will be easier for you both. Nice looking truck 👍
That is why I do not every buy cars with airbags out. Last one I bought just needed front left fender so easy to fix. Even a girl can do it. LOL. Always better with two though.
5 star airbags does ours

Thanks rick! haha my dad is so happy. He basically is saying mine sucks ha!
Rick that or any gM-cee is useless they can not even pass a crash test just to lame
@@bradzimmerman3171 I have driven BMW's for over 20 years exclusively. First time I had a crash in one was last month and it was totaled because the airbags deployed.
In some cases, insurance companies just don't want the liability of rebuilding a car that has certain types of damage... so they sell them at auction instead.
I’ve had 3 2020 duramaxes blew the trans within 3 months out of all of them.
@@JK-rz9bk my buddy bought a 2020 in 2021 brand new with no miles on it and ripped out the transmission line just by running over a bicycle the first week he had it, it only had a couple hundred miles on it when that happened. I don't see why they would put the transmission lines Exposed on a 2500 off-road vehicle.
Westcoat custom just did a frame swap with aftermarket frame +body drop. Look at their frame they used.
Good luck guy's and thanks for sharing your video
My friend wrecked his 04 2500 4x4 dodge w/Cummins 24 valve. And I got it for a good price! Minor damage and I seems like alot of work, $, &, time!! Good luck and look forward to watching it!
"GO TWIN TURBOS"!!!
I've done a number of frame swaps, it's not hard at all with a 2 post lift! Id rather do frames then body work 👍
100000 percent agree part swapping is graving work body work is tedious as fuck and takes actual time especially if u want it to look perfect and done right
Absolutely I would change the frame if it’s available!!
Back when I was 20 I change the frame under my 72 Chevelle with me and one other person!
Most of the stuff is connected to the body!!
not on a truck. most of it is connected to the frame.
Good luck guys! Just subbed to see the outcome.
The smart start works incredible. My 2022 started last month in -5 degrees in 2 seconds. Nice rig
This is going to an amazing build, brand new tear down and rebuild , can’t wait to watch you and your dad get stuck in to it
Dude brad the relationship you have with your father is absolutely epic brother.... your truly blessed mate.♥️♥️ Still waiting for the delivery of my truck I'm a S.A😁 u think I'm kidding but I'm not 😁.
Great buy old guy. 1000miles keep the truck and get a frame or have it pulled
Just subscribed excited to see this thing run again
Man I hardly ever comment on these u tube things but man-- Brad what a great son best friend you are to your dad!-----👍 I wish my father and I could have had a friendship like yours.
It’s actually not that bad . Most of the wiring harness can stay with each component I.E. cab , box front clip . Once removed just the driveline remains. You’ll be surprised if you do it in the reverse process of the assembly line 👌👍
.... reverse from the assy line 😂 😂
Frames are first. So they going to 100% rip it apart?
I think it will be pretty easy to swap once you start. Looks like a good buy. I would rock the AT4 without paint and have a story to tell or sell it to me 😂. Just started following the channel.. love the videos!
nice truck just became a sub love the video keep up the great work guys ! family 1st
Thanks 👍
Looks like a great team effort coming up.
As to a frame change - unbolt from "old", bolt on to the new. Time consuming? Yep, but with everything virtually new clean, should not be a major problem. I'm subscribing even though in my case, wish it was a Ford F250/350 but things have to be similar
These episode are actually fire.
Dude thanks man! I appreciate the feedback
Dude y’all got lucky. I thought you would have to wait like 5-6 months for a new frame
New subscriber here love the channel!
True Dad!!! Willing to pass it on & not keep it for himself! Much respect!
I wouldn't even know where to begin, but i know it can be done.
It will NEVER be worth what one that was NEVER wrecked is .
@George196207 Yes of course...due to having that salvage title! But the price for what used trucks are going for these days is unreal! If i had a big shop like that, i would definitely do what they are doing!
Does having a salvage title void out all of the manufacturer warranties & recalls on a new truck like that??? Educate me!!
Garentee that frame can be fixed! Buying a new frame and swapping it would be absolutely stupid before you get to a frame shop to see if they would try and fix it
It's not that bad as it seems. A frame section can be done but before doing that you'll need to pull it and align it to specs. Again a full frame can be replace. Just go to the dealer and ask for a frame diagram. There is some pieces of the frame that can be replace by sections and not entirely.
That sounds really good. I saw someone cut up a unit body side bottom to get it back straight i guess he just welded those pieces back after the pull.
@@tanyalove6983 It might look and measure perfect after that, but with the cold-pressed special steels they use now, you never be sure how safe it will actually be...
@@mick-berry5331 Well I watched him use a 2 ton jack and chains and he had to pull and pull till it was way over to get it to bend at all so you are probably right but if two ton jack just moved it a little and over stretched it a lot to bend I was not worried about the frame at all. Like I said by back wheel almost feel off because in the accident it overstressed the upper rear control arm and there was no visible damage at all just broke off at the joint. I think it spun out to the right dragging the back left to the right stressing out the upper rear control arm. The pull was on the frame at the front of the car.
You never know what is damaged on an accident car. I showed the picture of the frame of the truck and my boyfriend said to just pull it out no problem. Pull on the angled piece or put chains around the part that is bent in and just bend that whole part over. As long as the distance between the wheels is close you will be O. K. Honestly had no difficulty at all handling my car even though it was still off by 1/2 inch distance ont eh elft side compared to the right side center to center of the wheels. Drove perfectly straight. let go of the wheel still perfectly straight. big wheel alignment though.
A truck LOL no problem. I think that bottle he held up summerized the accident. LOL.
This sounds like an exciting build and a lot of work can't wait to follow it.
Love the show father-son projects that's awesome
Could it be a gmc pre runner build with full custom frame ?
You need to take it to a reputable body shop and have it put on a frame rack before you buy a new frame.
A new frame is a much better option than having a weakened straightened frame.
@@Fekillix do you have any idea how often there is frame damage on a non totaled vehicle? If you're going to replace every frame that has damage from a wreck you'll be totalling a lot of vehicles. There's a reason body shops have frame racks, including the shops that I worked at for 25 years.
just found your page excited to see the rebuild
Can’t wait to see this through. I have a 23 gas long bed.
Only problem with getting top dollar is both trucks have salvage titles.
Salvage titles for insurance is hard to get! If something happens they will only pay about 60% on the dollar value. Low miles are good but get NO Dealer repairs under any GM Warranty. Loans are also high for the salvage title trucks. When buy one of these trucks plan on keeping them for your own an repair yourself is the only way to keep or make money! Dealers won’t trade them in cuz have salvage title. Good Luck! I bought one an put 60k miles on it with No Problems it luck of the draw.
@@roberttaylor8261
I searched the comments before I was going to write nearly the EXACT same post.
These guys may not need the warranty being they're competent with a wrench....but I'd imagine they'll need the dealer for most diagnostics...and like you suggested, the resale is pretty much what they'll have in it.....not the great deal people think.
I've also been lucky with salvaged cars...wife's current SC430 was totalled for minor damage fixed and has been perfect.....but that was a $5k gamble.....not $55k.
Your one comment about a bank loan I have never seen personally......never found a bank/CU who would loan on a salvaged/rebuilt title.
@@johnpeters9793 These rebuilds are for Professional Body shop guys that have connections in a Dealership so can have access to all the tools needed! Buy truck cheap enough an escape without big drivetrain problems an frame replacement or to many panels or cab parts an you can Probly make money? The next thing is if wanta sell its 30-40% hit! The Bank an CU Policy in town I live in won’t loan money on Rebuilt or Salvadge Titles?

Actually have access to a small, non-corporate body shop who does a lot of our work...
He did a good job on the Lexus though it needs a refresh after 5 years....hopefully just a light color sand.
A buddy referred me to his friend who had a totalled '06 F-350.....no one would fix the frame and the owner got a check for $12k AND the truck.
My guy straightened it and did some minor body and paint.....when all was said and done, client drove away his near perfect truck and we all pocketed some change.
The funny part is the insurance company screwed up and never asked for the title....owner still has a non-branded title!!
@@johnpeters9793 Yes like I said it’s all about the connections. Finding a Good body man that likes the work! If Drivetrain is good all seam do good without warranties. Insurances are kinda Trickey? My wife is Agent so I’m lucky but if get into Accident or total again that’s just like the resale 30-40% hit is a lot on 20k Truck!
LMAO Funny how your dad was so high on his F450 and now he followed suit and bought a GM truck with a Duramax 🤣😂 Almost looks like someone hit something pretty hard off-road.
NEVER BUY ON EMOTIONS!!
case in point. You guys are still in a good spot. It will all work out.
I'm a tech at a GM dealership and I've replaced a few frames. It's really not a bad job. I can do a full frame swap on a 1500 in three 8 hour days. Best advice I can give is it save a ton of time if you can find a way to move your engine, trans and transfer case together. Good luck guys. I imagine you will find that it's a lot less work than you expected.
I guess it would be easier if you had two hoists. Then as you take it off you can just put it on the frame on the other hoist. That way you will not forget where the parts go!!! That is always a problem for me so I take pictures. LOL. Lots of them!!!
Frames surprisingly dont cost as much as I thought. Only ~$5k for a brand new 2023 frame from GMC
Why wouldn’t you take it to a frame shop first to see how far out it is. Maybe it could be pulled
You Dad makes sense go for it, good luck what ever decision you make.🍀🍀🍀🍀
You guys needed me. I have 20 years writing auto damage. Few guys have spent more time at Copart lots. I knew from first photo you’d be looking at frame damage. That’s why insurance totaled it. But the good news is the frame is available! Gitr done!
A lot of work but still a nice truck. Figure new 90k. Fixed 68. 79 With 1000 miles. Not bad.its a new truck Good luck. Take body an bed off then pull drive line. Then ALL THE LITTLE STUFF OFF. Then reverse all the work
Looks like someone hit a open man hole🕳️ at 50mph and ripped it.
Can’t wait to see updates! 👍🏾😎
It’s good that your putting a new frame on the truck. The frames are hydraulic formed and cannot be straightened. My 2018 was rear ended and insurance paid to put a new frame under it. I have pictures of how the dealer swapped the frame out in mine.
The dads greatest assessment ever ‘we need to get an expert’. 15:55.
So excited about this build! I was considering bidding on this exact truck but chickened out. New MSRP was $91,045
WOW he saved a lot of money. not sure what the final price was there is all sorts of auction fees and taxes. and parts and free labor. Government has not figured out how to tax that but who knows if they will. LOL Get charged for sex tax every time you have sex. LOL
So when you consider with the salvage title you can easily take 50% off it's value, that'll leave them with having $56,000 plus a lot of labor in to a truck that's worth $45-46,000. I think you made the right decision.
@@redbull8661 Ya I do not bid on salvage vehicles you think you got a good deal but after all that work it is hard to make any money or even get the money you put into it. But if you keep it then you save a lot of money.! I thought the bidding went really high because the truck looked so nice. I was really surprised how little the frame cost though. If they sell it and show the old frame and that it was completely replaced then maybe they could get more for it as all part are brand new.!!! Need to be a good salesman.could get 70,000 for it.! Why not?
@@tanyalove6983 Yeah I'd agree if a person can fix it themselves and is going to keep it an drive it maybe it's a good deal. I know myself I won't buy any vehicle that's been in a wreck, not even at 50% of the value. But I know there's people that will.
@@redbull8661 LOL Like I said the last one I bought was a car and all I had to do was find a fender everything else was fine. My rule is no salvage vehicles and no airbags out. The one I bought that had frame damage he hit the front left tire on a concrete median in the winter and must have spun around. Had a spare tire on so did not notice how bad it was. Mechanic certified it and then a few days later the rear left upper control arm fell off just as I got turned into my driveway. I do not know what would have happened if it was on the highway so you may have a valid point about damaged vehices. You only live once. I am giving both away.
This is very funny to watch, very different from me and my dad’s copart/IAA buys
All you have to do is take the front end off the cable off in the box and then set the frame up on four jack stands both of them and swap from one to the other I've done a few of them
That's not a waste. First and foremost you're getting a great moment with your Dad which always leads to some good wisdom. Secondly, that truck just needs to go on a frame machine.
Being a brand new truck, don't you think parts are going to be hard to get for a while yet?
Yes, I'd like to see a video of you contacting the previous owner and finding out what really happened to the truck.
Hey, where did you guys go? I watched you on TV and then I couldn't find your show anymore I loved you guys. I was so bummed‼️😔😔😔 Now I will follow youhere‼️
Never replaced the frame but I do dismantle trucks for a used auto parts yard and a truck this size would take 2 days to pull stright down to frame so I'd say 2 of you can swap the frame inside of a week once frame is ready every thing is going to just fall apart really with how new it is
I'd just throw it on a frame table and call it good you'll never know if it's done correctly by someone who does good work.
Value the time y’all have left together, coming from a young guy that lost his years ago there’s nothing under the sun I wouldn’t do to have him and this kind of relationship back.
I hope you have better luck with your Duramax than I did. I had a 20 and a 21 pulling campers stock from the factory. Both motors went down. I hope you have a whole lot better luck than I had.
Got to follow.
Want to see guitar again as the project comes to life.
Cant think of a single thing that could go wrong!!! #CleetusMcFarland
That was wild.. great call !!!
Frame swaps on trucks are pretty easy if I’m honest ! I’ve done several. As long as you have a lift It’s no problem 😊
First video I’ve watched I love the content already now I want to buy and fix a truck.
