I'm in Canada. I don't have a garage so I had to pay for winter storage and I put my bike away on the 11th. It's possible for conditions to turn cold really quick so while I could still have ridden a bit but I didn't want to get stuck transporting the bike by trailer if the roads got salted. It's a new bike and this was my first year riding so I didn't want to take risks either. Other than not being able to ride, I love winter. East coast our winters are mild. We’ll have enough days in the mid 50s-low 70s to still ride maybe once a week or so, and with decent cold gear it’s not that bad to ride in the 40s and occasional 30s. Then come March it is consistently over 60 for highs. I plan to keep riding over winter.

Otherwise the heated jacket comes out below mid 40s. When in doubt, throttle out! But slowing down on the trips this winter for Jeep maintenance, some improvements to the Roadliner, etc. Most of my miles will come from the hour+ commute. Keep us posted on the apothecary!

Fill the tank, add a bottle of fuel stabilizer, put the cover on, and start writing the wishlist for next year's spring make-ready service. It was 18F this morning, which can and does defeat even the best heated gear that fits my budget.

Only things I do are add fuel stabilizer and keep the battery on a tender. Unlike you, I'm pretty one-dimensional, with no real interests other than biking, except target shooting . I know it's my last ride of the season when there's snow on the ground. Occasionally, we get a reasonably good day even in midwinter. I used to draw the line at 40 degrees, but nowadays I need 50 degrees or warmer to justify getting out... unless it's bringing my Can-Am trike out on the snow just for the heck of it! Around here it could be 40 degrees but there's ice in the shadows, not a good mix for riding. In the winter I'll work on bikes, clean them up in the garage, do the various projects I put off during the summer to go ride.

I purchased my first Harley (2017 Street Bob) in September of 2017. Since then, I have been able to ride at least one time a month. I live in Michigan & I'm currently in the "don't winterize the bike" camp. I'm not planning on any long rides this winter, of course, but I might take the bike for a spin once a month when the temps are right. It's currently the middle of November and you're still on the bike, right? I'm guessing it will be the middle of March when you get that first nice ride on a warm day after it rains hard (I hate salt too). That's only 4 months. But also, I'm sure we'll have a heat wave once or twice in December. Get out and ride. We might see a 45-55 degree day in January... Get out and ride. It happens sometimes in February. When it does, fire up the bike and spin around the neighborhood. Riding season doesn't end - it just gets "sparse". Let's gear up and ride whenever we can.

For me it's can be a mix of all of em. If I need to get maintenance done, I might could call the season quits earlier.
But mainly for me it's due to the ice and slick roads and the salt. I don't want to put my bike through that either.

You talked about handlebars, have you looked at Buckhorn bars? They are not as wide but come back toward you more. I used them for years when I was young.

I'll ride up until 20F, then I'll wait until it's back to 20-30F. Heated gear is a game changer for my season.

Went out riding one time and it was not bad out but it poured down snow about 2 hours in to the ride....northern Ohio made it back home with about 2 inches of snow on ground....

I’m in Vermont. So I will ride above freezing as long as the roads have no ice on them and there is no salt in the roads. I do this because I wanna keep that engine running throughout the year.

When I lived in Michigan, it was usually when they prepped the roads for the first snow. Or below freezing temps. Haha. Here in Austin, pretty close to year round.

Weather... This morning in Kalispell, there is about 1" of snow on the ground. And... When one lives in mountainous terrain, riding options dwindle, even in the valleys.
Me, I am working on my videos. Right now, I am working on a "Tires 101" video for my channel. I Might have one more day-ride video, but that's about it. Not being an "in front of the camera" personality, I don't put myself out there much when telling my video stories.
As for the toy-hauler sale issue - We have a 43 footer that we tried to sell for nearly a year. It didn't happen and being under water on the loan, it looks like we'll be keeping it. Fortunately, it fits in my shop, so it doesn't have to sit out in the weather.
Seasonal depression - Yup, as a spring and summer kind of guy that doesn't own a snowmobile or snow ski, I really have no use for winter. LOL Drifting the river and my flyfishing drops off as well.
Also, the motorcycle tire business drops off to next to nothing, and the shop isn't insulated, so working on stuff out there when the temps are in the teens to thirties F, with nothing more than a propane bullet heater isn't ideal.
So, that's my sob story. C'mon SPRING.

When I was building bikes back in the nineties, I took gas welding rod in hand no handlebars installed, and bent two pieces of rod with the ends going through the riser holes in the top triple tree to meet the customer's preferred riding style/arm reach. I've welded up custom bars out of aluminum tube, 1 inch for several bikes over the years.

My last ride this year was Saturday because it’s my first season and I don’t want to have bad experiences make me want to not ride next spring. So I don’t want to learn inclement weather this year, nor do I want to deal with salt, which is coming soon, probably shortly after the current rinse cycle is over.
