This is a fantastic analysis but Half Blood prince is definitely not a rom-com lol. It has a ¨love relationship¨ aspect to it but the whole plot is much darker in my opinion. I´d say its more of a ¨spy¨ or detective film, maybe even noir. Magical noir if you could say that (? haha

Prisoner of Azkaban will always be my favourite. Its the most beautifully directed and entertaining of the bunch; a much more relaxing, kickback style of film rather than anything heavy. Which is something the books are like, since they show a lot of, well just school life in hogwarts, and this is the only film that properly replicates that.

    • @Jay-Zech

Prisoner of Azkaban has the best visuals out of all the Potter films! The effects for the Dementors still look great after all these years!

    • @mannymattina3792
      @mannymattina3792 2 года назад +2

I can see why and it is impressively made. What holds it back for me are 3 things:
      1. I find Alfonso Cuarons direction to be very pretentious (a problem I have with most of his films).
      2. I never liked the colorless look and visual changes (continuity errors) from the first two films. The overuse of CGI also always bothered me since the first two made great use of practical effects.
      3. The forced comedy (i.e the knight bus scene) and overall adaptation changes from the book that were for the worse in my opinion, such as the shrieking shack sequence.
Overall the brilliant filmmaking and parts that arr well adapted from the book make it one of the better films, but I always felt Chamber of Secrets was the best in terms of atmosphere, look, and effects as well as just being closest to the books

    • @astelevey
      @astelevey 2 года назад +4

@@mannymattina3792 CoS is definitely the best adaptation in terms of keeping things the same, I also agree in its quality of atmosphere (a big reason I prefer it over PS). I would argue that the colourless theme to it matches the shift in tone of the series - even tho that would technically start in GoF - I think the idea of soul sucking creatures and the idea of a serial killer chasing down a child makes the atmosphere much more deserved

Such a beautiful moment of one best friend comforting another and forgetting, just for a moment, that they’re on their own in the middle of a horrible war. My ranking as a lifelong Harry Potter fan
11: Secrets of Dumbledore - I know a lot of people are saying this is the best in the franchise, but I real don’t think so. While it’s more coherent than Crimes of Grindelwald, everything in the film is just so extremely convoluted, and they introduce a lot of new magic that raises a lot of questions for later in the timeline (why does nobody ever use that pocket dimension Dumbledore keeps using in that movie)
    10 - Crimes of Grindelwald
9 - Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (I’d like to say that the gap between the first Fantastic Beasts film and the others is to indicate a huge difference in quality. This one was closer to the quality of the original films for me.)
From here the ranking gets really difficult cause I find something to absolutely love about all of these.

    1. Half-Blood Prince (Definitely the least accurate to the book but as a film it’s awesome. This is the best looking HP film. I’m in love with the cinematography and as an inspiring filmmaker, I love this film)
    2. Deathly Hallows Part 1 (90% accurate to the book and brilliant character focus film)
    3. Deathly Hallows Part 2 (not as accurate to the book compare to part 1 but an epic finale to the series)
    4. Prisoner of Azkaban
    5. Order of the Phoenix
    6. Chamber of Secrets (Most accurate to the book)
    7. Sorcerer’s Stone
    8. Secrets of Dumbledore
    9. Crimes of Grindelwald (Overhated and enjoyable)
    10. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
    11. Goblet of Fire (Not bad but feels like a chore to watch minus the 3rd act)
I love or enjoy all of them. Not one I dislike

@Sean Chandler Talks About As a huge fan of the franchise and the books, they had to split the last movie to two parts, because the book has so much detail, and it's impossible to put a 700 page book into one movie, and the movie would be like 4 or 5 hours long if they did that. I didn't mind the cliffhanger, since I know what happens in the book, so the hype for the final movie was worth the wait. Also, the first half the movie is setting up for the big finale, so it's supposed to have a massive cliffhanger. So, since you haven't read all of the books, I understand your point, but the last movie needed to be in two parts instead of one. Also, the color grading for Half Blood Prince wasn't that bad, the cinematography is really beautiful to look at, and the way it looks in the movie, it was kind of described in the book.

haven’t seen secrets of dumbledore, hoping to see it soon tho!
    10. crimes of grindelwald - not really a surprise, imo the only wizarding world film that’s not great.
    9. sorcerer’s stone - i love this movie even if i have it placed this low (every movie from here and above is a 9/10 or higher), i appreciate the world building and i think it nailed the set up for this world, but the actual plot feels like an afterthought.
    8. fantastic beasts 1 - it’s prolly sacrilege to put this above SS, but i think it flows just a bit better. def doesn’t capture the magic of the HP films tho.
    7. chamber of secrets - def flows better than the first one because it doesn’t need to set up the world, and i love the faithfulness to the book. i just think it’s way too long esp considering that this is the second shortest book.
    6. goblet of fire - definitely one of the weaker adaptations in the series, but i really enjoy the core storyline about the tournament. i wish they had integrated more of the mystery that was present in the book.
    5. DH part 2 - great payoff for the series, it’s just not as rewatchable as the other films because it’s just payoff and not really any setup. it also feels the least complete of the harry potter films, because, obviously, it’s a part 2.
    4. prisoner of azkaban - the “low” placement of this one is probably gonna get me attacked 😬 it’s definitely one of the best HP films technically, but also doesn’t flow that well for me personally. i think this and the top 3 are all 10/10’s tho.
    3. DH part 1 - i really appreciate that this film is more character-focused than a lot of the other films. i recognize that other people find it boring but for me i find this film to be tension-filled and exciting.
    2. half-blood prince - this is my favorite book in the series, and even if this film is a poor adaptation, i think it still manages to be a great film with the changes that it made. definitely would have appreciated if they put more of voldemort’s backstory, but i like the film we got.
    1. order of the phoenix - i think this film succeeds as both an adaptation of the book and as a movie. everything about this movie shines for me, and it’ll take one hell of a fantastic beasts movie to top this one.

    5. Half-blood prince(The film was too much a love drama but the rest of it i really enjoyed it) 8/10
    4. Sorcerer's stone(A great intro into the world of harry potter, every scene in this movie is legend) 9/10
    3. Order of the Phoenix(The way they cutted down the book was really good, the dead of sirius was a bit underwhelming) 10/10
    2. Deathly Hallows part 2(A great final of this entire series, my favourite scene with the memories of snape) 10/10
    1. Prisoner of Askaban(The look was so fantastic and a great introduce of the new characters lupin and sirius who are my favourite two characters. The film is just perfect) 11/10

Love the video, My favorite is Prisoner of Azkaban and Half blood prince is 2nd. I feel like the lack of Voldermort was because we knew he was behind the scene pulling the strings. He was the reason why Snape kills dumbledore. We see a nice character arch for Draco. We get to see new things about Snape, and the idea of Harry and Dumbledore hunting the horcrux was one of my favorite sub plots in any movie

    Awesome Sean!!!
I honestly don’t know how I would rank this franchise ( haven’t seen Harry Potter for so long time ago). But your list is definitely close to my if I may guessing.

In general I agree with your ranking, the only thing I would point out is that Johnny Depp´s Grindelwald seems less credible that he had a relationship with Dumbledore due to the big problems that come from the script. I believe that if you put Mads´ version in the last movie, he would have the same problem and if you put Johnny´s version in the new one I´m pretty sure that his version would´ve of been more credible to that past relationship with Dumbledore. This movie made more credible that relationship but because it went more into depth in it and explained more, compared to the last movie were it was only left to interpretation.

    5) Order of the Phoenix
    6) Chambers of Secrets
    7) Deathly Hallows - Part 1
    8) Half-Blood Prince
Note: I like them all btw

    1. Prisoner of Azkaban
    2. Deathly Hallows Part 2

    5. Deathly Hallows Part 1
    6. Philosopher’s Stone

    8. Chamber of Secrets
I don’t really care for the Fantastic Beasts movies. 🤷‍♂️

Azkaban is legitimately incredible. There's not a single scene I could point out where I was bored.

Really that's a movie I fall asleep on. Maybe it's because I hate Surius Black that's why I get bored in the order of the Phoenix too. I think they are the worst movie

    9. Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them.
    8. The Half Blood Prince.

As someone who’s read all the books multiple times my list would be
    11 - crimes if grindlewald
    10 - secrets of dimbledore
    9 - half blood prince
    8 - fantastic beasts 1
    7 - goblet of fire
    6 - deathly hallows part 1
5 - order of the phoenix
    4 - philosophers stone
    3 - chamber of secrets
    2 - prisoner of azkaban
    1 - deathly hallows part 2
Goblet or fire and half blood prince are probably the 2 best books but there adapted so bad. If this was a book ranking half blood prince would be number 1

Here's my ranking, I only watched the movies:
    11. Crimes of Grindelwald - idk what I just watched
    10. Secrets of Dumbledore - not that many secrets/backstory of Dumbledore revealed, were there? I was wondering where it all was going the entire movie!
    9. Halfblood Prince - literally no set-up/backstory for Voldemort, why did he choose those horcruxes, what did he do to make them? + so many other questions about him+ the romance sucked
    8. Deadly Hallows 1 - I didn't understand what was going on, what were the horcruxes for? And the deadly hallows? What did Dumbledore know? So many questions.
    7. Fantastic Beasts - enjoyable movie
    6. Goblet of Fire - cool to see that there are other wizarding schools, but what was the purpose of this story?
    5. Chamber of Secrets - very clever with the foreshadowing. Interesting to learn more about Voldemort/Tom Riddle in flashbacks.
    4. Deadly Hallows 2 - Pretty epic finale, but the pay-off didn't land as well as it could've because of the bad set-up for the final battle.
    3. Philosopher's stone - Magical introduction into this world.
    2. Order of the Phoenix - You love to hate Umbridge. Dumbledore's army comes together + clear storyline.
    1. Prisoner of Azkaban - Harry finally gets family + time travel. All-time favourite
