I am a Chamber Of Secrets guy. I like the "murder" mystery plot. It was the first film I saw in the Harry Potter series and I've always liked it since. I liked Tom Riddle and his actor. It was nice seeing a young Voldemort and Radcliffe really 100% comes into his own as Harry in that movie. I like Aragog and the Basilisk and the way Ron and Harry discover how the basilisk moved through Hogwarts.
And it introduces Dobby... enough said.

Yes 3-2-1 are my top 3. The magic in those movies is the best and the cheery score. From the 4th movie on everything gets so dark and it's just hard to take "war" with wands seriously.

GOF is also my no.1, it’s got an epic, adventure feel and has the most intrigue imo as you wonder how Harry is gonna survive each task. Fully agree on COS being redundant too and POA to a degree. GOF is really when things gets serious (and i’ve still not even seen HBP or DH).
I got into the films without ever reading the books, and I think GOF ranks high for that audience. Book fans probably rank it lower for not including certain scenes from the book they wanted to see.

The Deathly Hallows Part 2 gave me chills so many times. I have to put it at #1. It’s interesting to see your point of view having not read the rest of the books. For example, many fans love the Goblet of Fire book but absolutely hate the movie. Also, the relationship between Ginny and Harry is infinitely better in the books than the movies; the movies are so fucking awkward. One exception to the books being better is The Order of the Phoenix, basically because of the ministry battle and Sirius Black’s attitude. In the end, we worship the source material so any differences piss us off lol

    5. The Order of the Phoenix

    • @stephenhewitt5721
      @stephenhewitt5721 2 года назад

I think that’s why readers dislike the film so much. I completely agree, the Triwizard tournament is fucking dope, and the book makes it sooo much more epic. Every contest is longer and each contestant gets way more characterization. You know Fleur and Viktor just as well as you know every other Harry Potter side character by book end. For that young adult crowd who enjoy that type of competition content the book is an AWESOME read.
But I definitely don’t hate the movie. I just would’ve sat through a 3.5 hour film of that epicness and knowing what’s missing is just a little sad.

I think the reason Goblet is ranked so low among fans who have read the books, is because we know what could have been compared to what we got.
We didn't get an epic quidditch world cup match nor an epic task 3 maze scene.
Dobby's scenes from the book were given to Neville for the film. Dobby is featured heavily in the book series but is only in the second film making his death in DH1 incredibly underwhelming.
Other completely cut characters and important story lines such as Winky, Ludo Bagman, and Barty Crouch, Rita Skeeter, and the Weasleys. They completely ruined the mystery of the movie by showing Barty jr at the very beginning of the movie and threw in nonsensical scenes like Karkaroff sneaking into the great hall and closing the door just to create a red herring 🙄 even though the audience was shown barty jr at the beginning.
Also the infamous misrepresentation of characters. "DID YA PUT UR NAME IN THE GOBLET OF FIYAHHHH!!!" And miscast characters, Moody, Fleur.
It it is the least true adaptation from the books other than HPB but that one is forgivable in my opinion because it is shot, scored, and acted so well.

The graveyard scene at the end of Goblet is just iconic. My favorite introduction to a villain...possibly ever on film. I hope one day you listen to the books on audible or something because the detail JK puts into the Wizarding world is what makes it so great. It's my favorite Fandom.
    My ranking of the films:
    1. Chamber of Secrets-almost identical to the book and darker tone with the same spirit of the original
    2. Sorcerors Stone-Magical introduction to the world and spot on to the book.
    3. Deathly Hallows Part 2-expect the ending battle with Voldemort and Harry in the courtyard. The book scene was in the Great Hall in front of all of Hogwarts with more exposition.
    4. Goblet of Fire-awesome action and the graveyard scene
    5. Order of the Phoenix-screw Umbridge 🤣 (amazing acting 👏 👌) Also Helena as Bellatrix is fckng perfect casting.
    6. Half Blood Prince-I will never forgive them butchering Voldemorts backstory which is my favorite part of the whole series. HBP is my favorite book as well. Ginny in the films is not nearly as interesting or believable as Harry's love interest than she is in the books
    7. Prisoner of Azkaban-good cinematography and introduction to sirius but drastic tone difference. Also they forgot Harry finally winning the Quiddich Cup from the book.
    8. Deathly Hallows Part 1: it's a heavy tone and all exposition.
    9. Crimes of Grindelwald: Young Dumbledore and Depp as Grindelwald were great.
    10. Fantastic Beasts: Newt is not nearly entertaining enough to me to build a franchise on but it was a welcome addition back into the world.

    1. Half-Blood Prince (Definitely the least accurate to the book but as a film it’s awesome. This is the best looking HP film. I’m in love with the cinematography and as an inspiring filmmaker, I love this film)
    2. Deathly Hallows Part 1 (90% accurate to the book and brilliant character focus film)
    3. Deathly Hallows Part 2 (not as accurate to the book compare to part 1 but an epic finale to the series)
    4. Prisoner of Azkaban
    5. Order of the Phoenix
    6. Chamber of Secrets (Most accurate to the book)
    7. Sorcerer’s Stone
    8. Secrets of Dumbledore
    9. Crimes of Grindelwald (Overhated and enjoyable)
    10. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
    11. Goblet of Fire (Not bad but feels like a chore to watch minus the 3rd act)
I love or enjoy all of them. Not one I dislike.
As for Draco, he’s just a bully who grew up in a terrible family and he did redeemed himself by not identifying Harry at the end of Deathly Hallows Part 1 since he knew it was him.

I agree with most of this minus half Blood prince being at the top. I just thought it was a romantic comedy and nothing like much of a wizarding film, plus it was the ugliest film in my opinion because I could barely see anything. But I can understand people's love for it.

2:38 The film where Grindlewald wanting to stop World War II before it happened was portrayed as evil, crazy Ezra Miller's character Credence is retconned into being a 3rd Dumbledore brother despite being too young, a pointless subplot about Newt's ex girlfriend's baby brother being killed by her dad and Queenie trying to slip Jacob a love potion to make him run off with her then joining Grindlewald out of spite when he refused.

I respect your list, and you explain it well. Here's mine:
    1. Prisoner of Azkaban (most well made, love Lupin)- A
    2. Chamber of Secrets (executed better than the first, super accurate to book)- A
    3. Sorcerer's Stone (the OG, super charming)- A
    4. Deathly Hallows Part 2 (great and exciting finale, but with some major flaws that hold it back)- A-
    5. Deathly Hallows Part 1 (love the character moments, and I love "on the run" movies)- A-
    6. Goblet of Fire (Not very accurate, cuts out stuff that shouldn't have been cut out)- B-
    7. Half Blood Prince (it cut out the wrong stuff, focused too much on cringey romance)- B-
    8. Order of the Phoenix (last 30 minutes are amazing, but first 90 minutes are a drag for me and super inaccurate)- B-
    9. Fantastic Beasts (Fun at times, but doesn't quite fit well with the beasts and the Grindelwald stuff)- C+
    10. Secrets of Dumbledore (WTH?? It's just a Dumbledore vs Grindelwald movie now. Nothing made sense)- F
    11. Crimes of Grindelwald (Just... just awful. Depp sucks as Grindelwald, nothing makes sense, why is Newt here?)- F

I totally understand your number 1 choice, Cody. I grew up with the Harry Potter franchise and when I saw "Goblet of Fire" in cinemas, it blew me away like none of those movies had done before - and I knew the books actually, meaning I was aware of the major plot points. Regarding it as a movie, I also think it's more or less the Harry Potter movie with the best pacing. It's insanely energetic and gripping, after the exposition leading up to the tournament and thus the main plot, there is almost no scene that doesn't directly move forward the story. Voldemort coming back to his physical form is also one of the most intense moments in the franchise. And so full of impact, after seeing the movie, you really have this feeling that the wizarding world has changed.
I actually regarded "The Order of the Phoenix" as my favorite Harry Potter movie for quite a time. Not so sure anymore about this, I guess it would be "Deathly Hallows Pt. 2" by now, but I still like that movie a lot too. The only thing still bugging me is literally the plot about the prophecy. Why would Voldemort have to know that he has to kill Harry in order to survive? Killing Harry is one of his main goals anyways. And on the other hand, why is Harry so surprised to learn that eather he has to kill Voldemort or the other way round? How would he have imagined the "relationship" between him and Voldemort to end? I don't really blame the movie for this though, didn't find many sense in this already while reading the book.

    HP8 Deathly Hallows pt2
    HP7 Deathly Hallows pt 1
    HP6 - Half Blood Prince
    HP2 - Chamber of Secrets
    HP1 - Sorcerer‘s Stone

If I were to pick “must-see” films in the series, they would be Sorcerer’s Stone and Goblet of Fire. Sorcerer’s Stone is a fantastic introduction to the world and nails the cozy feeling that many people associate with HP. then Goblet of Fire is a wildly entertaining crowd-pleaser of a film that ends up encapsulating the more mature tone of the series going forward

Cody, a few things just FYI that may be of interest to you:
    1) You are not on an island with thinking Harry and Hermione should have been together. J.K. Rowling actually admitted she later regretted not putting them together.
    2) It is revealed in the Half Blood Prince book that Voldemort actually jinxed the Defense Against the Dark Arts teaching position after he had applied for it and was denied it by Dumbledore who knew of his sinister nature before he became prominently known as Voldemort. Half Blood Prince really skipped out on a ton about Voldemort's past.
    3) Dolores Umbridge is worse in the book, too. I have no idea why Order of the Phoenix omitted this deal, as it seems pretty important, but Umbridge is the one who actually sent the dementors to attack Harry at the beginning of the film, not Voldemort.
    4) Great list, man! Goblet of Fire is my favorite film, too. I just don't get the hate.

I love these movies and every time I ask someone who also likes them what their favourite is, they’d always say POA, but I never really saw it, for me it’s HBP - but POA is an important film direction for the rest of the series because they decided to do the films from this point onwards with a Harry Potter point of view and leave out the rest of the details, which i think is the best direction they could gone in
