    • @cece4226
      @cece4226 6 лет назад +87

      I think it's because of Marilla's old quarrl with Gilberts father. So, yes she was glad that Anne hit him on the head.

    • @klassicalmuzik
      @klassicalmuzik 5 лет назад +72

      Missy Wiley that’s because Marilla had a romance with Gilbert’s father when they where younger and they had a quarrel. Marilla was too stubborn to forgive him so quickly and by the time she was ready to forgive him, he had already married another woman.
      After that Marilla never married and was resigned to live with her bachelor brother on Green Gables for the rest of her life as a maiden and grow into an old spinster.
      Anne smashing her slate on Gilbert’s head was a bit of a “haha” to Gilbert’s father who she quarreled with and his mother who “took” the one man she loved.

    The real charm of the movie is Crombie's expert and subtle gazing, something that is not properly executed in other Anne remakes. No matter how many times this movie gets remade, I will always go back to this version because the actors perfectly captured the old rustic charm of fleeting romance between Anne and Gil. Furthermore, the last look that Gilbert gave when he hugged her means that he's glad that she was his. I love the subtleties in this version and I will never ever forget how perfect Jonathan and Megan when they portrayed Gil and Anne.

    My dad bought the entire set when I was in high school. It was over a hundred dollars but, because of our membership to Barnes and Noble, we got it for half off. I still have it to this day, but I haven't busted it out in quite a while. I need to watch it again, and even though I'm in my mid-twenties, I see myself more and more in Anne, because we both love to write, and we feel our feelings very strongly.

    My dad found this on VHS at the public library and brought it home to show me when I was 7 or 8. He'd seen it on PBS before I was born and said that I just had to watch it. He was so right. I'm so grateful to have been raised by parents who introduced me to wonderful stories like this and who watched along with me, laughing and getting choked up in the same places. Everyone involved in this project gave us all such a lasting gift that I hope everyone can share in. I just hope and pray that it becomes available for easy purchase on streaming platforms so that people of all ages can have the chance to discover it in the first place.

    Gilbert not only called her “Carrots”. He also threw stuff at her and pulled her hair. He got away with it too. Anne was more upset with the name calling though. She was just upset when Rachel criticized her but wasn’t physical.

    • @Ana_Paula.Frasson
      @Ana_Paula.Frasson 4 года назад +5

      I believe that the physical pain she was just used to it, considering the life she had before. But that she could ignore and move foward. Her hair it's always with her and everybody talks bad about it, so when this new boy comes and just talks like that, she fells judged once again.

    I just re-watched this movie after many years because I'm going to PEI next week. The music in itself brought me right back to my childhood of watching this movie over and over again and I immediately teared up. I cried all over again when Matthew died. Every time I heard him say the line "I love my little girl" I lost it and lost it again this time round too. That line kills my every time. :(

    When I was 12, Mathew's death was the first time I really cried to a movie. A lump the size of an apple was stuck in my throat, but I didn't dare make a squeak in case my teasing parents heard. Then Mum turned to look at us all, shrieking, "Who's crying?" and laughed at me for having a river down my cheeks. That scene still makes me sob, even though I can always hear Mum's voice in the background of my mind.
