Comparison: 2023 Honda CR-V Hybrid vs 2023 Toyota Rav4 Hybrid

- Опубликовано: 13 июл 2024
- 2023 marks an important year for the Honda CR-V. Not only is it the start of a new model generation, 6th to be exact, but it’s also the first hybrid CR-V. At least for us here in Canada. So to find out how good it is, I decided to compare it against the benchmark of hybrid compact crossover SUVs; the 2023 Toyota Rav4 Hybrid.
Unlike the gasoline-only version of the CR-V, the 2023 CR-V Hybrid uses a naturally aspirated 2.0L 4-cylinder engine which is aided by electric motors. This powertrain has a total output of 204 hp and 247 lb-ft of torque (152 kW & 334 Nm). On its own, the engine produces 145 hp and 138 lb-ft of torque (108 kW & 187 Nm). This hybrid powertrain can only tow 1,000 lbs, 500 lbs less than the gasoline-only version.
The 2023 Toyota Rav4 Hybrid uses a larger 2.5L naturally aspirated 4-cylinder engine with aid from electric motors. Its total output is 219 hp (163 kW) but Toyota doesn’t like to publish torque figures for the total output. What I can tell you is that the engine produces 176 hp and 163 lb-ft of torque (131 kW & 221 Nm) while the electric motors produce 149 lb-ft and 89 lb-ft of torque (202 Nm & 121 Nm). It has one motor next to the engine and one mounted in the back to power the rear wheels. Towing capacity is higher than the CR-V Hybrid at 1,750 lbs.

Just ordered the CRV. Did my homework and it was by far the best for me.
the crv looks much better than the rav4
Subjective
Seems to be conclusive
We prefer the Rav4 hybrid. Just bought a 2024 xle premuim. Very satisfied.
Just design wise, that CRV is the most beautiful suv ever
First time watching your review, excellent work, thank you! Best regards from Finland. ☀️🇫🇮
Thanks for watching!
I just got CRV Hybrid Touring & I am very pleased to watch your comparison. Good Job 👌
are your gas mpg true to EPA or lower? Everything I'm seeing online shows people getting almost 10mpg lower than what they should be getting. Scaring me away from CRV
great comparison.. thank you. I’m seriously considering either one this week.. thank you
Thanks for watching! Which one are you leaning more towards?
You car review is not lengthy but very clear and detailed on each topic. Very beautiful image.Thank you very much. Hi. I’m from Vietnam.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the video

And I recommend you try this app called TikTok for fake and overhyped personalities 😉
I have a RAV4 XSE hybrid that I purchased new last year. The CRV interior is what I wished my interior looked like. It’s so luxe while my RAV4 looks very plain/utilitarian. I do prefer the exterior body style of mine over the CRV though. Hopefully Toyota will work on classing up their interiors.
You look at interior 90% of the time!
Rav4 too small, tight/uncomfortable
You’re right on.
@@miragexl007 Toyota always been small compare to Honda. From 3 rows SUV to Minivan. Honda is really good with practicality and spaces.
The one thing I liked was the push button transmission. That was pretty cool
Great video. Nicely done and enjoyable

Great detailed review. I’m considering either of the two. Thank you.

Just stumbled across your Channel and glad I did. Very nice video. I enjoyed your comparison of CRV and Rav 4. Just subscribed. Keep up the good work.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the video
I really liked the style of your review. Particularly the portion devoted to comfort. I have a bad back, so it’s a big priority for me
Glad you enjoyed it!
Very helpful. Great video.
Thanks! I've got an updated one to this coming out in a few weeks.
Just bought a 2024 Honda CRV Hybrid Sport (non-touring) yesterday and love it! I looked hard at the Rav-4 and like many things about it better than the Honda but ultimately I went with the Honda. It's an amazing car and if it proves to be reliable it will be well worth the $40k price tag.
You paid 40 for a hybrid sport? The msrp is around 32-33.
A fee grand in dealer mark ups and additional fees and taxes will get you there in no time. These cars are very hard to get.
Does it have a spare wheel? I am considering 2024 CRV EX-L Hybrid
@@letslekukuthe hybrids don’t come with a spare. Really unfortunate. They do that with a lot of cars nowadays
@thedavephan a couple add ons, transit & dealership fees.
I live In a 10% tax state. It adds up fast
Very informative comparison.
Thanks for watching!
Good review, thank you.
Thanks for watching!
If one functions well, and it is easy and still comfort to operate and really reliable, then it doesn't matter if its interior design is a bit old looking. It is getting the buttons and screens to function the same. That is what happens to rav4. I am really satisfied with my rav4 hybrid limited, 2019 as compared to all my past owned honda cars. if wanting a total different experience and interior, then go try a full ev. Also rav4 outlook does stand out and that gives me a good feeling
Very good review
CRV es otra fragancia ❤
Good review.
Glad you enjoyed it
No spare tire in the Honda CRV is a deal breaker for me. Hard to go anyplace with a flat and the RAV4 has one and will leave the Honda by the side of the road. In the end, it's what gets you to where you are going that matters and the Honda will leave you flat!
I agree. I can't believe Honda does not even have an area to put a spare. The hybrid battery occupies the place where the spare fits on the non-hybrid models.
Been driving for 12 years only had to change flat tire twice
@solonfroilan897 Consider yourself lucky. Remember you used your spare tire when you had those flats. Know that there will be some people who may have flats in the middle of nowhere and need a spare and will not have one. They wouod he stranded. A spare tire is like car insurance. There are some drivers who have been driving for over 30 years and never made a claim, but they still pay insurance. All Toyota cars or suv come with a spare tire. Do you think they are doing something wrong?
@@myytchannel6632 “All Toyotas come with a spare tire’ do I think their doing something wrong? What? I don’t understand your question 🙋
@solonfroilan897 I simply mean Toyota is doing the right thing by providing a spare tire in all its vehicles. Honda is doing wrong by not providing a spare tire. It is like insurance. They need to make provision to fit a spare tire in every vehicle. There are some people who will be unfortunate to have a flat tire where they will be stranded for hours or even more than a day just because the car does not have a spare tire. The tire inflator does not fix all kinds of flat tire.
The CR-V looks much better. The RAV4 looks like a '90s Subaru Forester.
Lol crv looks like a ugly accord and Volvo made a baby

Nice review , would you compare with nissan rogue hybrid?
Thanks!
I would but sadly, we do not get the Rogue Hybrid here in Canada right now.
Honda CRV otra fragancia ❤
I like your approach to this. I've vetted both the CR-V and RAV4 Hybrids, and your analysis is spot on from what i"ve read, seen, and heard from other reviews. Not one review actually showed how you can adjust the trunk floor for a little more room. I'm definitely purchasing the Rav4 Woodland simply for my mild off roading lifestyle, price, and most importantly, gas mileage! I"ve had cars with all the bells and whistles, so that's not a priority for me. Thank you for time and sharing your experience.
Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed the review!
I just bought the CRV Hybrid Sport Touring in Black on black and I love it! It rides a lot more smoother than the RAV4 I rented last year. (God it was TERRIBLE!) but above all else it is great on gas which is a huge money saver from the vehicle I traded in.
nah, they are both drives very smooth.
@buuor Your opinion. I chose the vehicle that was better overall for me👍
@@buuor Nah, Toyota aren't known for smoothness
The CRV has very low cabin noise! But that was the only good thing about it compared to the Rav4 for me. Just hated the quality of interior for the CRV
I just ordered Toyota Rav4 Hybrid, my CPA said can get up to $4,000 credit on Tax return for energy credit, please verify it. some car dealer also can get some discount for being Costco member
Has anyone else noticed that many car reviewers claim to be taller than they actually are? I think they do this to make the vehicles seem more spacious when they're filming in them. When this reviewer said "my 6'4" frame", I thought sure, tell me another one. But then standing beside the CR-V, he really is.
Haha, I really am 6'4".
The RAV4 uses port and direct fuel injection which allows fuel to wash over the back of the intake valves. This process keeps the valves clean and prevents them from getting carbon build up. The CRV only uses direct injection. Without the intake valves having fuel wash over them, carbon will build up over time. This can cause issues like poor fuel economy, misfires, and possibly turbo damage if not addressed. Yes, the CRV uses a small turbo engine. My choice was based on reliability, longevity, and low maintenance. The RAV4 all the way!
i use to think that way...but As I get older, feel and comfort are more important. SO c r v hands down. And reliability is like second I believe so easy choice
If you intended to keep the car for 10 or 20 years. I drove 6 cars so far and never keep them more than 6 years.
What you say about direct injection is true. But using an additive once a month, might take care of the issue.
But as Scotty Kilmer will tell you, the Hybrid CR-V model uses a 2.0 liter Atkinson cycle engine & NOT the.1.5 Turbo from the non-hybrid models.
One other difference that wasn't mentioned: Due to the location of the battery pack in each of the vehicles, the RAV4 has room under the rear storage area for a spare tire (it's only the small, temporary "space saver", but still a tire), the CR-V doesn't have room for any form of spare and has only the pretty much useless "tire repair kit". For me, in any car, that's pretty close to a show stopper.
Indeed
I guess in theory you can just buy an extra spare tire and carry it around in the cargo area... but most people won't wanna deal with that.
For the city you won't need a spare wheel in your entire life.
@@Pavel23467 1. I don't drive exclusively in the city. 2. Considering the abundance of potholes in city streets these days, I don't think that's a valid statement anyway.
Just get AAA
Thank you very much for the comparison. I really love Honda and Toyota and both CR-V and RAV4 are really great cars.
- Have you reviewed the new Nissan X-Trail or as called in the United States Rogue and compare them with it?
These 3 top Japanese cars and I am really confused which one to buy for my family.
- Which one do you recommend to me if I like traveling with my family around 8 to 10 hours during vacation? Because I like to visit my parents during vacation and they live around 10 hours away from my work city.
- Do you recommend Hybrid edition if I like traveling a lot?
Thank you very much and always keep up with hard work.
Sincerely,
Saeed
Unfortunately we do not get the hybrid version of the Nissan Rogue. I drove the turbo 3-cylinder version (ruclips.net/video/2eGYeHcjLhk/видео.html) and I thought Nissan did a great job with it.
For long road trips, I think that CR-V is just a bit quieter and a bit more comfortable. But if you find a better deal on a Rav4, you won't be disappointed with it.
As for the last question, hybrids are fairly close to having the same fuel efficiency numbers as gasoline-only cars on highways. They really make the most sense on city streets. So for mostly road trips, it may not be worth the extra cost of a hybrid over a gas-only car. But again, if you can find a great deal on a hybrid vehicle in your area, take it.
I'm currently looking at hybrid models from both Toyota and Honda as my new car. Here in BC, Canada, Rav4 in inventory is with approx. 23% mark up over MSRP, while CR-V is sold at MSRP
Oh interesting, I'd thought the CR-V hybrid would also have a markup seeing as how popular hybrids are around our neck of the woods.
And my Honda CRV dealer did not add on delivery fees, just charged MSRP. Plus tax of course. Also, it's available in a month, whereas the RAV4, well, a year wait?
I ended up putting deposit for CRV EX-L Hybrid on Sunday, delivery first week of December. I test drove Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid SE, asking price is $48.5K before taxes, total of $11K over MSRP
@aleksandarcojic4765 $50k for a Corolla Cross??!?! That dealer confusing it with a GR Corolla?? Haha
I just bought a Rav4 Hybrid yesterday i like the mpg i didn't really care for the extra stuff it's just something else that can go bad
Congratulations on your purchase! What are your first impressions?
Toyota needs to work in their interiors, looks old and to me looks like a tank, that was another reason to get my 2023 sport touring hybrid so clean and nice in/outside I’m in love with CRV 😍
"Looks like a tank" probably the point, if you want cute-pussy interior with giant iPad in the middle. Get a f Hyundai
Lol I’m just the opposite. I hated the Honda interior. They have the same interior for civic to pilot. Inside the CRV, it felt like a cheap civic and uninspiring.
If I want to buy either one of them how do buy one? Unable and 3 to 5 step over msrp if you can find one
Unfortunately I cannot comment on how dealers conduct their business. I think it's very unfair considering how expensive cars are getting these days but there might be a few (very few) dealers that perhaps honour the MSRP.
Good video. Great comparison.i loved the rav4 look but that was many years ago with current design. They've needed a redesign for quite awhile when Honda CRV looks modern and great and Sportage and Tuscon are ultra modern. Toyota rides on its reliability and better mileage. I'm leaning to Honda despite loving my 2010 Venza still going strong. I can't accept such a dated look to RAV4 which might not get a redesign until late 2024. That's ridiculous.
Thanks! Usually cars get a new generation (and redesign) every 5 years or so. You're right, the Rav4 should be getting a refresh for 2024 or 2025.
Toyota has always been that way. Outdated look and tech compared to other brands. Also very cheap material for lower trim. My first car is a Camry, even though I love the reliability I really hate looking like an old man driving a Camry in my teenage years. Honda has always been better for styling and look, as well as practicality uses of space. Growing up, I didn't care much about best reliability as I never intended to keep the same car for more than 5 years. As long as it's Japanese build, I'm all for style and comfort interior.
Needed to have the Rav 4 XSE for this
A Limited would've been better but as I said, I have to make due with what I get from the manufacturers.
I drove a 2021 Rav4 hybrid and my husband had to squeeze into it. He had lots of room in the 2024 CRV.
Honda's have always been bigger cars in recent years. Did you end up buying the 2024 CR-V?
@@MGReviewsBlog - we did - can wait to pick it up in two day!! 2024 CRV Hybrid touring.
@@debkleinschmidt4490 Nice! Congratulations! Did you have to pay a markup on it? (if you don't mind me asking)
@@MGReviewsBlog believe we did but it's worth it to me. have a 2023 Tucson on order for my husband and we have to wait for months for it to come. Now hearing they may be going on strike
Has a spare tire better mpg known for hybrids easy choice
Honda just has better storage by a little
And crv is much more comfortable, roomier...not as tight feeling in my opinion/most people's opinions I'm a toyota fan but comfort has moved way up on my list so crv right now
Overall the CRV was a no brainer for me the 24 models added a middle model that fit my needs and was a little less expensive. Plus you can test drive one not so at the Toyota dealer plus no waiting list.
Interesting you mention the hybrid being available on the lower trim because I'll be reviewing that one later this month against the Ford Escape Hybrid.
CR-V is a more recently updated model. RAV4 is showing age, but for certain the next gen will excel.
Mhmm, I'm looking forward to the next generation Rav4.
Just want to point out the 1080p quality on your video is almost lile 480p at times.
I know. Something about gopro footage that youtube doesn't like.
Honda and Toyota 🤩
When Toyota decided to mandate subscription services for remote start and other features, Toyota became a problem. Add the noisy Toyota engine and the answer is a solid NO.
Agreed, it's a slippery slope with subscription based features.
I’d pick the RAV4
Honda crv excellent l love ❤️
Crv hybrid more noisy too much all time wind noise. I trade in 2022 evl crv hybrid and get 2024 xse rav4 hybrid and it’s beautiful. RAV4 hybrids are with spare tire that plus point when your In situation of flat tire. That helps a lots. I love rav4 hybrids and you will see more rav4 hybrids on road.
Interesting. If I remember correctly, the Woodland trim actually has lower efficiency compared to the other RAV4 hybrid trims. I suspect the fuel economy difference would have been even greater, if you had reviewed the non-Woodland RAV4 hybrid.
Toyota Canada has the same fuel efficiency specs for all versions of the Rav4 Hybrid as does Natural Resources Canada (similar to EPA).
Youre right, the fuel economy is slightly lower due to the larger wheel setup on the woodland trim
@@bahskskffkgk where does Toyota list this?
@@MGReviewsBlog it's not necessarily listed however one can assume that the difference in fuel economy between woodland and the other trims is from the wheel setup
Just a little research and you can see that the woodlands edition comes in an AT tire and stiffer stocks then normal hybrid which in turn lowers mpg by 2-3mpgs. On top of that they increase driving noise and stiffer ride quality from the tires and shocks. Also the woodlands comes with roof rack cross bars which also lowers mpg by 1 or so and increases wind noise. The fact the rav4 in this setup compared almost identical to Honda and was even quieter is amazing. Rav4 for the win
The Honda looks better.
The CR-V doesn't have an EV switch because it only gets driven by the gasoline engine at "final gear" (virtual gear). Below that speed, it operates in series hybrid mode, that is, it's driven only by the electric motors and the gasoline engine operates as a generator-charger only.
Doesn't the new Accord Hybrid use the same powertrain as this? The Accord has an EV-only switch.
The Honda two-motor hybrid system works similarly to a series-hybrid at lower speeds: the large motor provides traction while the gasoline engine charges the battery and during light acceleration may provide extra power to the motor--both achieved through the smaller motor-generator. The gasoline engine is not engaged to provide traction until it reaches highway speeds. This is the main difference between it and Toyota's planetary gear hybrid system which combines both motor and engine traction, whichever is the best combination.
I'm not familiar with the Accord's EV switch. If I may guess, maybe it forces the motor to depend exclusively on the batteries (until it is almost drained). Seems to me having the EV mode button is an option but the way traction is produced is the same.
As always, I could be wrong. But this is based on my personal research before ending up purchasing the CR-V hybrid, for various reasons. Waiting for delivery this month.
the music at the beginning is so ominous for no reason 😭 0:37
Toyota must do some homework for nice looking interior design on coming versions
For me, easy pic as Toyota can’t supply a RAV4 hybrid until next year while Honda had 10 of them in different colours in stock!
Nice! Glad to see that there is some hybrid inventory out there.
Yep this is where we are at too. Can't get a RAV4 hybrid even if we wanted one. Checked out some used inventory and 25k miles only equals about 1k off the price from new. It's wild. Will get a Sport Hybrid and enjoy the nicer interior
Off topic but my NX350h gets more than what they advertise in gas mileage. Very impressed
Funny enough, I also managed to get better than advertised fuel economy with that car when i had it on demo last year. I really like the NX350h
Nice video but not a fair comparison… took the top tier vs a mediocre trim..
and also failed to mention the reliability of the toyota hybrid system in play over a decade while Honda just started to get into. ( they were doing it previously but only dipped their toes with a few models)
Thanks.
Yes, I said in the video that they're different trim levels. No, I can't do anything about it because that's what I get from the manufacturers.
I can't comment on reliability because I only get these cars for one week at a time. It's up to the actual owners of these cars to comment and tell others about their experiences.
Have you reviewed the Kia Sportage Hybrid? Curious how you think that stacks up. I think the top trim (SX Prestige) on that, is comparable in price to the CRV trim that you reviewed in this video. I like both - a lot. Just curious what you think.
Yes, I have reviewed the Sportage Hybrid: ruclips.net/video/GLPlxTh9q-8/видео.html
I prefer the slightly quieter interior of the CR-V, as well as the more spacious interior, but the Sportage is very good in providing value for money. Plus like the Toyota, the Sportage hybrid is available with multiple trim levels unlike the CR-V (at least for us in Canada). If I had the budget, I'd probably still go for the CR-V but if dealers are still marking up the CR-V hybrid and if more Sportage Hybrids are available, I'd be perfectly happy with the Sportage.
@@MGReviewsBlog Thanks for the quick reply. Where I am, the Sportage (at least the top trim, SX Prestige) is coming with a hefty mark-up. The CRV can be had at MSRP. I have an old CRV - 250K miles and still going...love it. My wife has a Telluride and I love that too.
CR-V still going strong, nice! It's the other way around from what some potential customers have commented on this video. CR-V has the bigger markup over the Rav4. You're the first one to mention the Sportage.
There are two things always missing in these reviews. These are SUVs, even if small. How is it offroad? Towing? For cargo space, don't cae as much about square feet, prefer to know something about actual dimensions - length, width, height
Unfortunately very few manufacturers actually provide measurements of the cargo area. At least with the Liters or cu-ft method, you can go to another video that I made and get a rough idea of which vehicle has a bigger or smaller trunk area.
As for off-road, most of the time I'm not allowed to go off-road unless it's an off-road focused vehicle like the Ford Bronco. I don't have hundreds of thousands of subscribers like other channels so it's easy for a manufacturer to stop providing me with cars and it won't affect them. So I need to be respectful of their vehicles and not return them with any damage.
You need to expand your discussion to discuss the difference between the CDT technologies. Toyota uses a planetary gear box. I need to double check, but I think Honda uses belt or chain and cone type CVT
Honda's i-MMD architecture is very different from Toyota's power split planetary gear CVT. The car is driven primarily by an electric motor with the gas motor used for charging. In parallel mode, a clutch system is used to engage the gas engine at two different ratios. Rather than use a torque converter or mechanical pulley or belt, the two-motor hybrid system relies on the interplay of the two motors for driving and generating power. This form of drive force transfer offers smooth and predictable acceleration matched with efficient low-rpm highway cruising when the gasoline engine is in operation.
there is no physical gearbox for honda eCVT.
I don't have enough knowledge about how the different transmissions work. I also don't think that the wider audience is too interested about the specific differences and advantages/disadvantages of each transmission. Engineering Explained knows a lot more about the details of how different car technologies operate.
@@MGReviewsBlog I think you just need to note that “CVT” is somewhat of a marketing term and that the actual mechanics and engineering can differ from brand to brand
@@nsteblay is Honda's transmission better than toyota's in this case?
In which of these of cars hears less noisy sound when you drive in highway?
I found the CR-V to be a bit quieter (even with that little bit of wind noise by the driver's side window. It could have been an issue with my demo car)
@@MGReviewsBlog OK, thanks 🌼
Crv looks much better and interior of the rav 4 so cheap . I ll go for crv .
If only msrp was a thing in Canada…
…waiting for the tables to turn on the greedy dealers.
We need more supply. An oversaturated market will quickly lower prices. And we need certain consumers to stop buying cars with insane markups. If they keep forking out their money, dealers will continue marking up their inventory.
2024 CRV has a 15% stiffer frame and handles superb. Leaves RAV4 in the dust. Drives like a small car and so quiet and smooth acceleration. Divine!
I'm stuck between these two. Has anyone heard of major problems with Honda CRV engines in the 2023-2024 models ?
Curious about this myself!
Go with Toyota they’ve been doing hybrids for soooo long and it’s a 2.5L engine vs a 1.5L turbo. With the turbo that’s one more point of failure.
NOTE: CRV Hybrid gas engine is a non-turbo 2.0 Atkinson Cycle, not a turbo.
I have one and no problem engine like
If fact I got both and the CRV rides better
lets wait for the redesign of toyota rav4 2024
Lol. I'm hearing 2026
CRV feels more refined and roomier especially for taller folks. Its shaft driven rear wheels also offer better off road performance given RAV4s relatively weaker rear motor. Having said that both are boring and stand no chance agains the Model Y which is only ~$5k more in the US and on its way to break all sales records.
Model y is ugly!
CRV has crazy space, even at 6'+ people should be good.
Are you comparing an EV to a Hybrid? I'll take Hybrid or PHEV any day. The only state where you see most Tesla is CA. Outside of that, they're a rarity. I drove to Houston for a week's visit and maybe I saw two or three Teslas.
Also, Tesla reliability compare to Toyota and Honda? Cost to fix, parts, and insurance?
Is 2024 rav4 up new design? This design is pretty old I guess since 2019
that will dent sales. Plus they want crazy market premiums here.
I bought Honda CRV just because it looks better. And it's bigger inside
@Screen Share ya it's a good choice but here in Canada if you want hybrid you have buy the top touring nearly $60,000
I haven't heard any rumors about a complete redesign. Perhaps it may get a few minor styling changes??
@@IvanRossS it also looks better inside and is a smoother more comfortable ride than the rav4. the rav4 is basically a lifted camry.

The honda is just so much nicer.
The thing is that in the new RAV4 you have a full digital cluster unlike in the Honda and also the new 10.5 inch touchscreen is nicer in the the RAV4. Too bad you didnt have it in a nicer trim level with leather seats etc. Here youre comparing incomparable.
I literally said that in the video that these are very different trims. I have to make due with what I get from tge manufacturers
@@MGReviewsBlog yeah i know, in my opinion you at least should had just showed a picture from the configurator of the nicer trims. That’s all🤷🏼♂️
@@vitkrivan9380 Like the CR-V wasn't gonna win interior and others even against the nicer RAV4 lmao.
Just look at the Ram for with the larger screen pierpit. It looks ridiculous out of place and distracting... So not a positive for some.
Man, love the new c r v. But hump in the back along with no spare tire... Rav4 just seems too tight and uncomfortable inside... So a definite NO Besides liking the drive train better...
RAV4 is for me ❤
New CRV won the battle, by huge margin! Honda has increased the new standard for the segment which Toyota have to follow and keep it up with the next gen RAV4. It's do or die for Toyota.
I'm sure Toyota is hard at work with the next gen Rav4. I just hope it won't have such a "rugged" look for the next generation.
Reliability? Difficult to say as the Honda is too new but the 10 year warranty on the Toyota with 15 years on the battery in the UK is a deal breaker for me.
Whoa!! you guys get 15 years battery warranty?? lucky!
did you meqn deal breaker in a positive way as if you would buy rav4? :D 15 year warranty is insane but i bet it has some 'fine print'
@@theblitz1687 definitely. Just bought a nearly new Corolla Touring Sports. Warranty appears very comprehensive.
@@MGReviewsBlog Yup. No quibble. 😉
Its a bit disappointing that the crv costs more but has less features. I suppose its for people who like quality over gadgets
Yea, it needs more trim options for the hybrid powertrain too.
but if you like quality over gadgets than you should get a Toyota with its more advanced hybrid system
@@vitkrivan9380 The Toyota hybrid system does not have a smooth transition, even though they have the hybrid system, for the longest time. You can feel the transition. You cannot feel the transition from battery tov fuel in Honda.
@irandude1655 this comment is spot on and the reason I will never sign for a Toyota. I cannot drive a vehicle that has a rough transition and every single Toyota I’ve test driven feels the same. Honda is so smooth
@@vitkrivan9380- Toyotas decade old system is more fuel efficient, but not more advanced in any way. 😂
The Honda uses direct only fuel injection. In time the inlet valves will carbon up. The RAV4 uses Toyotas eCVT which has been around for 23 years, is very reliable and has no clutches, valves or fluid, unlike the Honda whose design is new and untested. The RAV4 uses a separate electric motor for AWD. The Honda uses a transfer case, shaft and diff which is heavier and requires more maintenance. After 100,000 miles, I would expect the Toyota to be more reliable.
Not the hybrid. It’s a 2.0, not direct injection.
@@jacobpetersen5662 Er... you are quite wrong
"The CR-V Hybrid achieves a total system output rating of 204 horsepower by coupling a 145-horsepower Honda 2.0-liter direct-injected Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder engine with an electric motor and connecting the hybrid system to an e-CVT."
That's from Honda itself.
Honda has decided to released a cheep model of CRV in US vs Europe. They offer much nicer CRV-Hybrid plugin with full digital display, 360 cameras, HUD, and Panormaic roof, as well much nicer trim with out weird cheep unpainted bottom plastic. Contact Honda USA and complain about cheep version of CRV USA!
Technically @ any hybrid trim level of Toyota Rav4 you'll get 3 electric motor s ,compared to the honda's 2 ,Honda's transmission uses clutches to engage and disengage the gas engine + transfer case to spin the shaft which is connected to another set of clutches to engage and disengage rear drive axle, Toyota's transmission uses gears only, IMO Toyota hybrid power train is a well engineered machine.
yep, the hybrid system is still better in the toyota
The term Naturally aspirated should be banned from use 😂. My Toyota dealer cannot say when the RAVs will hit the sales floor, CRVs are available, so that narrows the choice. I'm not a fan of how the RAV wheel wells look. Both are fine vehicles. Toyota wants 5k above sticker--- insane! Honda charges sticker and then their dealer package- lojack , etc and so forth, so It's not all about sticker price, due to the crazy greed the dealers have.
Why not? it's an accurate term haha
Are all of the Toyota dealers in your area charging above MSRP?
@@MGReviewsBlog It’s an overused marketing term . Atkinson been around a long time too. Anyways, it always gives me a chuckle. There is nothing on any lots down here. Toyota honda - no inventory. It’s been that way for some time. Demand is high tho and yes the dealers will sock it to you, and if you don’t like it the guy person behind you will. Even Hyundai is charging 4500 premiums and they won’t budge. Lots of loose money here I guess
@@MGReviewsBlog In my area (Nevada and Northern California) most, if not all, Toyota dealers are charging $5000 market adjustments. AND they are harder to come by. Probably they can get away with it because the 1 to 3 year old Rav4s have gone up so much in price lately. People haven't been able to get new Rav4s so it's driven up the price of the used models and consequently the new ones now have the premiums added on.
Can’t get a Toyota these days some models you have to wait two years or more

CRV doesn't allow any spare tire dye to the dip-shittery of battery placement.
You can grab a toyota hybrid le for so cheap! Honda you have to grab the higher tims for the hybrid
I know! If only Honda would offer the hybrid powertrain on lower trim levels.
The small disadvantage in gas mpg is worth it to get the crv cause it’s much more roomy tbh
Agreed. And slightly quieter interior and interior materials.
So let say you can afford both of them and first time buy a hybrid car. Which one will you choose
Money no issue, I'd go for the Honda. I prefer the comfort and I'm ok with the slightly higher fuel economy. (it's still good overall though)
@@MGReviewsBlog i have a question abt spare tire . The Honda doesn't have it so do you think we have enough space in the cargo to purchase an extra one ?
@@Khoangyyen I know that the gasoline only version of the CR-V has it (I made a video of it in the past: ruclips.net/video/R3F807Pal48/видео.html) but most likely the hybrid version does away with it due to the battery and there isn't any space under the floor to store it. Unless you want to keep it int he trunk at all times but that will take away from your overall cargo capacity.
The hybrid battery is in the middle of the trunk where the spare would have been-therefore you cannot rig it to have a spare. Unlike the RAV4, the battery is under the 2nd row leaving space for a spare tire. Have had both and traded in the ‘23 CRV Sport Touring for a ‘23 XSE primarily for my need of a spare tire-plus “wants” not available in the CRV “Top Trim”.
@@Khoangyyen -there is no space left as the space for the spare tire is occupied by the battery for hybrid. Just think about how many times did you need to change your tire in your whole driving life? Where do you live? What kid of surface do you drive? If you drive in construction sites, gravel, industrial parks, I would want a car with spare tire.
There's no question Toyota hybrid is way up there in efficiency and reliability. But there are more about owning a car than just that for me. For that I think Toyota has a lot of work on other aspect of their cars. This gen of CR-V has a lot of improvements on exterior styling. But I believe that rear right design is pretty much taken from Volvo. I don't like the interior grill style dash. But again this gen dash is a good improvement over the last gen for sure. Hope the driving dynamics have improved as well as all the previous gen CR-V are simple not good to drive. Neither an SUV nor a car making them awkward and simply absent of any character in a vehicle
You know how to review mate.
Thank you!
Over 1000 litres in cargo space?! Wtf is that? A van? Wrong numbers or just marketing by measuring all cabin instead up to the back window
That is literally how all manufacturers measure cargo capacity and I included the cu-ft conversion for the US viewers.
They are both too expensive compared to comparable gas options, for it to be financially advantageous. It takes too long for you to come out ahead.
If one saves, say 3 liters per 100 km, and that is a big if, because we're still talking heavy suvs here and not little sedans like the Prius. Driving 20k km in a year, would save 600 liters of gas. If gas costs, say $1.67 per liter, that it cost $1,000 less in gas per year. But if the car costs 10 grand more, you'd have to drive it for 10 years to break even.
And then there is the car loan to consider, which makes it worse.
Sure, it drives nicer. Probably quicker to accelerate. That's great.
But purely money wise, I don't think so.
There are often people that like to cherry pick and select listings where on paper it looks like it would cost a mere 2 grand to get the hybrid option over the gas option. But in practice it does not work out that way. What's available is just far more expensive than 2 grand more.
Also, compare across brands. When I say comparable, you have to consider the Nissan Rogue, Mazda CX-5, and VW Taos/Tiguan (honestly I don't know specially about the VW), Hyundai Tuscon, Kia Sportage, Ford Escape, Mitsubishi Outlander, and possibly more. Similar size, weight, seating space, cargo area. Looking across all those options, and it becomes clear that in practice, it will cost a heck of a lot more than 2 grand for you to drive a similar hybrid off the lot.
That's just how it is. It's possible to cherry pick lists to make oneself feel good about spending the money, but you're basically being had, and turned a blind eye to protect that confirmation bias. That's how humans work, when one wants to love a choice. Cars are often an emotional decision, and not a logical one.
And that's ok though. Just know that if one truly wants to make a claim how they saved money, they'll discover there wrong when battling out the numbers - which I have done many times. For example, Outlander PHEV doesn't save money at all. The car is just too expensive. I'm seeing how in Canada the RAV4 PHEV *USED* is pushed at nearly 60k (CAD).
Oh, and then there are the waiting lists.
Oh, and this year, while I hoped that the car market would improve, it seems it's not improving. I'm seeing car prices rise further, again !
*IS* it shortages, I wonder? Is the industry purposely aggravating things by maintaining what seems like slowness. So long as possible enter the waiting list, they still sell the same number of cars. It seems that lineup is benefiting the industry. Is that lineup artificial at this point, I wonder... all to drive up and maintain an inflated cost.
It's all a game of money in the end.
It sounds like you should make a video with the aforementioned
I agree up to the cost of fuel at $1.67/L over ten years. You and I both know fuel is going to get astronomically expensive within the next 10 years.
Not to mention traffic congestion. The hybrid system is king in congestion. Crawling using electric motors is where you're saving the most fuel.
If your driving doesn't consist of stop start driving, i completely agree with your statement.
@@dtkl79 I see your point. However I'm quite surprised how some cars manage to keep the fuel consumption down during gentle stop and go traffic.
And without the stop-engine feature.
Anyway, what really needs to happen is better cheaper batteries. Really ideal would be removable universal battery packs.
In the ultimate where people focus on helping instead of profit, that is what we would be doing.
My plan was to drive my 2014 CX5 into the ground. And hopefully by that time EVs would be cheaper. Fate had other plans.
I chose a hybrid rav4 because the 2019 CX5 hire car I had was using 11L/100. Barely got 400km/tank.
Couldn't afford full EV SUV, so hybrid was the middle ground.
Being stuck in heavy city congestion using the electric motors doesn't bother me so much anymore. It's just a matter of time before batteries and range get cheaper and better in full EVs.
I'm curious to know what mileage non city hybrid people are getting. I'd be surprised if it was >30% of full petrol engine.
@@dtkl79 The Mazda is known to be thirsty. In fact, of all the choices out there, it would have to be the worst on fuel. The Rogue is the stark contrast. Fully gas and still 25-33% better, for comparison.
Where I am anything hybrid is utterly stupid expensive. It' literally an impossible option here.
CRV fir me❤
If I have more budget I would buy a Lexus😀
Which one? NX350h?
@@MGReviewsBlog Yes

That's just how I normally talk. I'm not part of the TikTok generation with over the top and exaggerated personality.
You forgot to mention that the Honda doesn't have a spare tire, but the Toyota does. That is the biggest deal breaker for me. The tire kit is a waste of time I'll take a temporary spare anytime.
In USA Honda CRV is cheaper then RAV4 hybrid
Are you sure? They both have the same price (give or take a few hundred dollars) at the top spec end. The Rav4 Hybrid is just over $1,000 USD less starting price than the CR-V Sport Hybrid.
@@MGReviewsBlog the dealerships here in america are marking up the 2023 rav4s 4-5k more than the CRV on average. the 2023 CRV not only looks much better, but handles better, has more space, and has better interior as far as quality.
@@MGReviewsBlog Sport Touring's at my local dealership are 40k, and the Sports are 35k. Problem is that it's almost impossible to get a Sport Touring they were all sold out and it was like 1-2 month wait. Almost all Rav 4 Hybrids are well over 40k.
