    Happy Tuesday everyone! The day has finally arrived where we can share how the redesigned 2023 CR-V hybrid drives! We also had a chance to drive the previous generation CR-V Hybrid back-to-back and Honda definitely made huge improvements to the powertrain. We also managed to clock a 0-60 time in the old CR-V Hybrid in 8 secs, the new version is about 0.5 secs quicker, while getting about the same MPG, according to the EPA numbers. While it is a huge improvement over the old model, we do still feel Honda missed the mark on several factors, including the lack of a PHEV in the US and premium features like a pano roof, cooled seats, or a heads up display for the top trim.

    I currently have a 2019 CRV EX which i extended for 6 months. I went to a few Honda dealers near me and test drove both the EXL and the hybrid. The difference in power between the two was a bit noticeable, but not enough to immediately pick the hybrid. Keeping in mind the fact that I lease, the hybrid wasn’t going to save me in three years the price difference for the Hybrid Touring. So there’s that! The EX and lower trim Hybrid weren’t even a consideration due to the lack of features that are important to me. So it was either the EXL, or sport touring. I can definitely see why so many people would prefer the touring version. It’s definitely better looking on the outside and for many that’s at the top of their list. It’s a hybrid and for many it’ll save them on gas over the long term if they’re buying. So once again, being that it’ll be a 36 month lease, I’d be paying way more just for the looks of it. The EXL has every feature that I need and in the end makes way more sense on a 36 month lease. If I were to purchase, I’d most likely pick the hybrid touring at 5 grand more over the EXL.

    It's excellent to see Honda improving and manufacturing hybrid vehicles - better late than never. Hybrid technology is the way to go for great MPG and long range for any vehicle. They have the technology for plug-in hybrids that get 60 to 80 mpg, and still have 200+ hp in a vehicle like this. It's a complete mystery why they are not designing and marketing more plug-ins.

    • @Einsteinsghost
      @Einsteinsghost Год назад +1

      I think Honda is avoiding use of larger battery packs. For MY23, they actually reduced the battery pack size to 1.04 kWh compared to 1.4 kWh or so, for the previous version. A plug-in version would make sense with a substantially large battery pack... at that point, might as well just make it full EV.

I would have to test drive this myself. Toying with replacing our 2016 CRV Touring (my Wife's car). But we will see? I would go for the Hybrid Model for sure. I drove a 2021 Hybrid last year with the same Drivetrain as this one... I was impressed with the extra Umph . Torque is a big difference in the hybrid over opur 2016 model. And a nice Bump in MPGs.

    I think is a great SUV from Honda however is weirdly missing a fully digital cluster, HUD and a 360 camera system, the panoramic roof is absolutely not necessary I have a pano roof on my RDX and in roughly 8 months of ownership I have used it twice maybe?, if Honda adds the missing features it would be the best compact SUV in the market, unfortunately dealers will kill it with upmarket charges like they are doing with the Civic.

    Nice review. It's a nice car. A lot of flack in here about lacking features vs cost. I hear you. I do. But it's got as much if not more than the comparable RAV4 xse hybrid which comes in at nearly the exact same price. Also the rear floor hump is definitely due to the battery, the touring doesn't have a spare tire under the rear floor due to the battery, so it's not as tall.

  • @jeepluv76

    Honda should consider offering EXL trim as an optional Hybrid which is a missed opportunity. Furthermore, if Touting is going to be branded as a sport model they should consider the highest trim the Elite it would help brake up the mono chromatic interior, and bland door panels with cheap piano black plastic. At least the fake wood on the previous gen gave it some contrast. It's nice but seems half baked. The design is beautiful just need more color.

    Frankly very bothered by so much of the cost cutting choices. Especially since its finally a damn good looking SUV. When a loaded CRV used to max out at right around $30k it was acceptable. But now nearly at $40k, this kinda power/experience of that buzzy eCVT, and lacking features - it doesn't make any sense. Tuscon Hybrid continues to lead this pack, and is not dethroned by the CRV unfortunately.
    Honestly the CRV is hampered by the RDX. My guess is the only reason the top trim doesn't have everything we all think it should have, is Acura/Honda wants to push you into a RDX. Frankly to get away from that eCVT i think I'd just go for that too. For those who want a well optioned/trimmed out Hybrid from Honda/Acura - your wait continues. But I'd take the performance of the RDX and the 10mpg hit.

At 50k miles my seats were starting to come apart, had 3 passengers with me when I traded it in, all said the Telluride rode like crap. The driving tech in the telluride didn't work near as good as the Honda. I ended up losing a crap ton of money because the Kia dropped like a rock in value. I've owned a 2016 touring civic, 2020 accord as well. Kia and Hyundai looks good on paper but they are crap.

    Wow. I was looking into this as I’m a current owner of a 22’ Toyota RAV4 Hybrid and I must say… Honda definitely missed out on those features you talked about. The no spare tire threw me off. It’s to my understanding most newer cars do not carry spare tires but that’s almost a must for me. I also attend drive ins for movies so the hump in the back after seats were put back was off putting as well. As far as appearance, that’s one thing I can say Honda mastered opposed to RAV4. Interior and Exterior. RAV4 interior feels very outdated. The seats are not the most comfortable. Ultimately though, I still think RAV4 will be top running until Honda decides to incorporate some of those added features. Interesting watch, thanks! 😊

      I've had 6 cars over decades and not one had (and no one in my family has ever had) a blowout since those are rare and caused by bad maintenance and had one flat in decades which I used fix a flat for. The CRV comes with a fix a flat and air inflator if I ever need it which I doubt. The main cause of blowouts - bad air pressure which the tire inflator can take care of. Far from a dealbreaker.
