I got this exact car except in gravity grey back in June of last year. I love it! The wireless CarPlay can be fixed with a cheap simple dongle. The only thing I wish it had was the home link mirror. 17k miles so far and no issues.
I have the sister car... the 2023 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid SEL with Convenience. Yes, the wireless AA can be fixed with a simple dongle (which I did), and the lack of a Homelink mirror is also a simple (if somewhat pricier) fix I got an OEM Hyundai Homelink mirror and had it installed as soon as I bought my car. The wiring is there, just Hyundai and Kia are being cheap with Homelink. I fixed it and saved $5,000 by not having to go up to the next higher trim to get Homelink!
@TheTreycubed same place you plug your phone into your data port for AA or Carplay. The dongles are smaller than plugging in your phone regardless and you can leave your phone in your pocket and never need to plug it into your car again.
In the toggle switch for the infotainment controls and climate controls you can hold that for about 5-6 seconds and it’ll pop up a screen to select what screen you want it to time out to so you only have to remember it’s on one and not the other
Having wired Apple CarPlay instead of wireless is actually a plus for me. We had wireless CarPlay on our 2022 Tucson and it was awful. It glitched all the time, especially when there were multiple family members with iPhones programmed in the system. It was hard to select the right phone and would cut out when someone else used their phone. I’d take wired CarPlay all day where at least it knows which phone to use depending on which one is connected
I get 34 mpg on cold days (temps in the 30s and below) and average speed of 70-75 mph. On warmer days (temp over 45 degrees) and average speed below 65 mph, I got almost 42 mpg. So it really depends on your driving style and temperature. It seems that I get a much better electric boost on warmer days. Thanks for the nice review!
About the same for me. I'm pretty happy with it. Much better mileage than my previous car, a Nissan Murano, which was lucky to reach 25 mpg at those speeds, and averaged under 20 in mixed use.

I just love it !!!...
I love this interior color, but I wish that kia would let you get this car with a more interesting exterior color compared to the Fusion Black, Gravity Grey, & the Shadow Matte Grey which looks way better than the metallic Gravity Grey. I wish you could get the Deep Ocean Blue from the Seltos or even the Vesta Blue the Sportage offers with this interior which would make it look very unique. Even the Jungle Green they offer on the Sportage Plug-in Hybrid with this interior would look very distinctive
I would like clarify that the carmine red interior is NOT exclusive to the trim and car color being reviewed here, as stated by Sofian. The red interior can also be had in the SX and SX Prestige trims in the regular gas-powered cars (non-hybrid) with the Wolf Gray paint color.
I've had my hybrid EX model since September. Quite happy with it overall, with a few caveats: 1. The non-projector headlights on the EX model were rated poor by the NHTSA or IIHS. I can confirm. The projector units from the SX should be on every model. 2. The heated windshield did can be distracting at times, especially at night when oncoming headlights hit it. 3. Winter mileage on short trips suffers compared to warmer weather. But it drives and rides nicely. Could be a little better insulated from road noise, but it's not bad. Tech stuff all works well, wish they could figure out the wireless Android auto, would make the wireless charger more useful.
I have the Hybrid SX-Prestige , and getting around 32-34 mpg around town since I bought it in November. As I live in the NYC area, the winter temperature probably did not help the mpg. I am surprised you left out mentioning the dynamic instrument cluster!
You said the engine starts up to heat or cool the interior. Does that mean when the engine turns off (which it does all the time) the A/C turns off? If so, that is a deal breaker. Here in FL you will sweat instantly without A/C. I hate stop/start on my car because of that.
Question: I just bought my 23 Kia Sportage from Kansas City and I'm driving it back to Seattle. Lots of bugs and the car is really dirty. can I wash my car or do I have to wait?
RAV 4 AWD Hybrid version is produced with two electrical motors, combustion engine. Sportage AWD Hybrid or plug-In version is one electrical, combustion one. plus, small electrical motor just to restart combustion engine.
In Canada, Kia's Aircon and infotainment panels don't work with gloves.. so its very annoying to use if your car is not warm , you will be forced to remove gloves in -25 deg just to fiddle with the AirCon/Heating. Definitely an oversight for Canada or colder climates.
Even the 'touch sensitive' gloves for electronics don't help in Canada's freeze out zones. Definitely an opportunity for improvement. Canada is a totally different climate to USA. If they start to produce a Colorado/Minnesota version would be interested...lol
I'd really like to see volume (noise) and shakiness (suspension) lvls in cabin while driving. comfort while driving down the hwy everyday is really important to me.
Over time, how does the engine and starter handle turning on so many times? That's always been a question floating in the back of my mind. Really thinking about getting this car some day. Thanks to anyone who can answer. ;-)
I was also wondering how hybrids cycling back& forth from electric to gas power would hold up over time. Does it need adjustment at each maintenance check point? Which part of the 100k miles powertrain, electric or mechanical, or in combination, is Kia warranting?
from my understanding, the starter and generator are one, very beefy piece. I think I read somewhere that its not some little tiny starter firing up the engine every time its needed, 50 times a day. The generator is always spinning, and when you need the gas engine it just connects to the gas engine and it fires up pretty much instantly. i test drove a sorento with this system for two days and its a very good, seamless system.
Generally, hybrids don't have a starter and instead, the generator starts the engine. From what I understand, hybrids also generally don't turn off the engine until its fully warmed up to avoid excess wear. Really, the engine and generator aren't the things that end up breaking the car; the hybrid battery is. If your hybrid battery doesn't work anymore, your entire care is broken (can't start or move) and the batteries tend to last around 10 years, and is usually the first mechanical thing to fail in a well-made hybrid.
@danwake4431 what did you think between the Sportage and the Sorrento? Bc of captain seats in the Sorrento, really only giving up one seat. Did you pick on or the other?
Just wait and see what the price is when it comes in. Have no obligation to keep the price the same as when you last spoke with them. Only an actual bill of sale will retain the original price. What you've probably signed is a worksheet and to them not the same thing. And if you complain about the price when your vehicle finally comes in, they will just smile and tell you that if you don't want to pay, there are others out there that will.
@Mye Fone I contacted the salesman and told them exactly what you said. They told me the price we agreed to is the OTD price. They can't even make a bill of sale yet because we don't even have a VIN number for the vehicle being built.
@@wickedroller Good that you verified that with the sales person. I've been reading on reviews of dealerships that by time the vehicle comes in, "market adjustment" price is added, making the vehicle even more extensive than what was promised. Hope you love your vehicle when it comes in.
@@wickedroller yes that is correct that they cannot make the bill of sale yet until the vehicle is assigned a VIN, and that is how they got away with increasing the price in the meantime. They would say the only way of prices guaranteed is if a bill of sale is signed and that cannot be issued until later, do the worksheet holds no guarantee of price. A few customers thought of taking it's to court but it would end up being too expensive and not worth the time, so they would either have to walk away or pay the new price. Perhaps that does not happen as much anymore.

@@fanoftoast That sounds about right. I just wish the manufacturers would allow it to be shut off permanently by the driver instead requiring you to do it every time you restart the vehicle 😞
@@highdefnews ok so update!!! I ended up snagging a kia Sportage hybrid EX from a dealership in MI. Mine does NOT have a auto engine start/stop button. Well, it has the spot for the button, but has no symbol and is not a working button. I’m still getting used to the car, but I believe because of the electric battery inside, it switches to the electric battery when you stop (and does regenerative braking to charge the electric battery) so the engine technically isn’t off but it isn’t making you use that function where the engine has to “restart” before you drive again. When I test drove a gas powered Sportage like a week before I got the hybrid one, it DID have the auto engine start/stop button and the sales person told me that he has to physically turn it off every time he starts his car, using his button, so the engine doesn’t turn off when he stops while driving. So now I’m wondering if this is only a gas-powered/PHEV option and doesn’t apply to the hybrid regenerative-braking battery.. 🤔
@@fanoftoast Thanks for taking the time to update me. Not many people are that considerate. I noticed the same thing about a couple of other new SUVs. The gas powered models had auto start/stop buttons, but the hybrids didn’t have it. Like you said, it’s probably because there’s no need for an auto start/stop function when the electric motor can just be kept on instead. I think It’s also another way to push customers toward the more expensive models 😂
@@highdefnews no worries! I’m spending too much time watching car videos anyway 😂 so if I can help share something I might as well! And hey if people have to upgrade to hybrids (and they’re affordable and accessible for customers) because they don’t want to reduce emissions by turning off their engine when they stop, I’m okay with that!! But maybe I’m also very biased cause I’ve always wanted a hybrid 😂
I want this exact color combination now that I'm reconsidering this car, unless I get the Fusion Black or Gravity Grey & just wrap the exterior to a dark blue instead
I think it's where you buy your gas at gas station and how much range you get. I have a 2012 Buick Verano Cov and when i go to one gas station and fill up and notice I'll get 403 miles and when it's time to fill up again I'll get gas at a different gas station, I'll fill up and it shows i can get 493 miles. I notice it depends where you get your gas and might get low or high mile range out of it.

That’s good to know. I have RAV4 now and I have great service with Toyota. It would really be disappointing to pay money and get bad service. Now I have something to think about.

Interesting! No one in Oklahoma will take a order or pull from another dealership out of state.
Dang ☹️ hope yours gets delivered soon!! I screenshotted the options I built out online in November and redid the build yesterday and realized kia has raised the MSRP of the Sportage hybrid EX a little bit since November so now one scared to wait much longer if I really am going to order one. They even increased the delivery fee slightly too.
I’m thinking I may have to travel across the country to find what I really want.

Can I get a tow hitch or is it included? And A-pillar interior handles are right above your head for convenience when “holding on!”
Excellent presentation !!!... I live in the Midwest, the same unit as described in this video, after one year and a half, I got between 27 mpg up to 34mpg, temperatures from -5 up to 110 degrees; when I'm driving in the city better mileage than on the Hwy, I always use Smart Drive instead of ECO drive, reason? when I'm on the highway and need Juice from the car, I instantly get it. also the ventilated seats or heated as need it... the illumination during night time... the electrified curve display, a lot of stuff in the car...
I am so impressed you really know your stuff
I would like clarify that the carmine red interior is NOT exclusive to the trim and car color being reviewed here, as stated by Sofian. The red interior can also be had in the SX and SX Prestige trims in the regular gas-powered cars (non-hybrid) with the Wolf Gray paint color.
There's a lot to love about this car. Pretty sure it's my next car.
I Have the SX-PRESTIGE HEV Vesta blue. It is very nice and I think you will like it!
Is that matte grey still available? I don't see it on the website.
I've had my hybrid EX model since September. Quite happy with it overall, with a few caveats:
This is the perfect spec for this car!
I have the Hybrid SX-Prestige , and getting around 32-34 mpg around town since I bought it in November. As I live in the NYC area, the winter temperature probably did not help the mpg.
I am surprised you left out mentioning the dynamic instrument cluster!
@Redlinecarss naaaahhh nice try you spammer
Do you regret getting this vehicle?
@@smoov_23 No regrets at all.
You said the engine starts up to heat or cool the interior. Does that mean when the engine turns off (which it does all the time) the A/C turns off? If so, that is a deal breaker. Here in FL you will sweat instantly without A/C. I hate stop/start on my car because of that.
Regarding Hybrid vehicles, which do you prefer/recommend between the Sportage, Sorrento, and Santa Fe?

The red interior also comes in the gravity gray in sx model in the USA. So you don’t have to get the Matte finish to get the red.
Yup, just picked up our Hybrid SX Prestige in Gravity Gray and Carmine red interior. It's gorgeous!

Good review, and honest 👍
In Canada, Kia's Aircon and infotainment panels don't work with gloves.. so its very annoying to use if your car is not warm , you will be forced to remove gloves in -25 deg just to fiddle with the AirCon/Heating.
Definitely an oversight for Canada or colder climates.
Never thought about that.. Thanks for the tip on this vehicle.
Do your gloves have that padded material for touch screens on the finger tips?
Even the 'touch sensitive' gloves for electronics don't help in Canada's freeze out zones. Definitely an opportunity for improvement. Canada is a totally different climate to USA. If they start to produce a Colorado/Minnesota version would be interested...lol

I love this color combination! I wish they had a Shadow metallic gray or offered this trim with Wolf Gray as an option with this interior color
The 2025 offers that combo.
wonder if the matte paint is hard to take care of?
You can only hand wash it, no drive thru car washes. One reason why my mom didn't get matte finish on her GV70.
No brush car washes. Touchless or hand wash only. A deal breaker for us. We opted for the Gravity gray with the Carmine red interior.
This is actually pretty powerful. Reminds me of how the accord hybrid was powerful for it's time.
Actually 261hp on HPEV
Will consider this vehicle and thanks for nicely hosting

It's almost 2025, and it's still a great review.
Just ordered my SX Prestige Hybrid yesterday at MSRP.
@@myefone1536 yeah I never trust car salesman. Their job is to take as much of your money possible.

Does the Kia Sportage still use GDI engine which has cause nothing but problems
Does anyone know if it comes with auto engine start/stop?
I think it does but you can turn it off? I swear I saw that as an option by the shifter in another video review.
Is it only Apple Carplay? or does it offer Android Auto?
Another question, is it dual climate?
yes, also Android Auto and dual climate
FInally no more low bumper turn signals....
