For landsacpe & nature, like macro, insects & flowers I would probably go for the Z7II & the only thing that would be missed is the rear flippy screen. I like the Z7II photos just a tad better & some seemed to have just a hair more exposure to them but I had to pause & really put my face close to the monitor & do some peep'n. Ant settings besides the factory default in the retouch menu's (eg. D-Lighting, etc.) on both of these cameras? And if so, = both the same? Thanks for the vid & any replies.
I would have liked to see comparison between normal and corrected underexposed images to see if the noise is different let's say between a normal exposed shot at ISO 3200 and one underexposed by 5 1/2 stops then corrected. Furthermore although I did not expect a big quality difference with still topics, but try to shot a fast moving subject with electronic shutter on the z7ii and compare it with the same shot on the z8 and then, you will see a big difference.
Nicely done image comparison! As a Z7 landscape and product photographer moving to the Z8, I was hoping for an increase in sharpness and detail from the newer sensor and processing engine over the original Z7, but then again, I was happy with the image quality from the Z7 as well. Just thought that newer technology would have manifested in even slightly better IQ. Thanks for this detailed comparison!
weird that you would even think that. The fact the z8 has a stacked sensor already means additional noise. It also means that the z7ii would have better dynamic range and better low light ISO performance. Its been like this forever regarding BSI Cmons vs stacked .
In term of sensor comparison, the difference is in the color science between them. Using an overall monotonic greenish object (mountain side) defeats the purpose. It could be a great video if you select a landscape scene with more colors.
Thanks for the comparison! I'm a Z7ii holder and now hestitating about whether to buy a Z8 or wait for a Z7iii to make a combo. From your video I notice that Z8 pictures are slightly warmer. Do you think there is a difference between their color temperature or natural light or is it because of the auto exposure?
If there is a color temp difference it isn’t by much and I wouldn’t let that keep you from getting a Z8 to pair w your Z7II. It can always be adjusted in post when shooting Raw. As far as the Z7III, we don’t even know if or when it is coming, but hopefully it is coming at some point.
There are no significant differences in image quality in broad daylight. And there will be no difference in night shots at high isos. The stacked back-illuminated sensors do not capture more light than a back-illuminated sensor from a couple of years ago like the one that equips the Sony a7 RIII, if not rather it is a marketing. In addition, the sensors that equip the Nikon are from Sony, even the one that equips the EOS R3 is a Sony sensor. What brands are looking for now is more burst and better autofocus and video.
Thank you so much, very important comparisons to make decisions before buying a new Nikon. Please, how is your experience with the F lenses on the Z cameras with the NFZ II adaptor? How do the perform ? Thanks
Glad the video was helpful for you! I don't have a ton of experience with F lenses on Z cameras... but I did recently shoot with the Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8E FL ED AF-S VR lens on the Z8 with the FTZII adapter... I found the performance to be really good. Autofocus was snappy (but this was just landscape shots, not action or wildlife), no noticeable drop in performance to me. I can't really speak to other F lenses as I haven't yet tried them on Z bodies.
I've owed a D850, Z7II and a Z8. The difference is noticeable between the D850nandnthe Z7II but in my experience, with the same lenses, the Z7II is the best landscape tool.
Thanks for this! Just what I was looking for. Hope to see more comparisons between D7ii and D850 showing more different scenes. Awesome! Hopefully there'll also be something like D8 vs D850 :D
Thank you for this video. I recently switched to lightroom from on1 and noticed much sharper details with my z7ii. One thing though is the amount of noise visible on base iso with the standard lightroom sharpening of 40... Is this typical with lightroom? Thanks.
I'm picking up a Z7ii as a step up from my Z6ii that extra resolution just helps with cropping, especially when shooting larger groups the extra resolution helps. I don't care for the Z8. Most things changed on the video side, and I absolutely couldn't care less about 8k video, raw, and mega files. 4k 8bit is more than enough for those 2x I'll use it to make a video. 99% I shoot portraits.
@@notarealperson2001 It is not the same sensor but there are no differences in image quality , in fact you can verify it in dpreview or dxomark if you compare it with the one of the z9 which is the same as the z8. The back-illuminated stacked sensor benefit utilizes an interleaved architecture of sensor, logic board, and dedicated RAM, resulting in blazing-fast read speeds. That enables the use of electronic shutters at the highest shutter speed and achieve 20fps burst shooting in RAW/JPG. That's the difference between the z7 II and the Z8...the speed
@@gerdetandil09 If you compare the Z8/Z9 against the Z7 on Photons To Photos you'll see better DR in the Z7 at ISOs up to 500. After that they're very similar. The Z8/Z9 sensor is very prone to blowing out highlights so needs to be under exposed in high DR scenes where bracketing isn't an option... this leads to increased noise when recovering the shadows in post. I have a Z9 but it certainly wouldn't be my first choice for landscape photography.
Check the video description for gear discounts, my gear list, and more. Thanks for watching!
This was great!!! I have been searching for a comparison just like this. I am trying to figure out the direction I want to go between the two cameras.
I stick with my Z7 and Z6II for landscape. Great video again!!

They are manufactured by Sony not researched and developed by Sony. They are RD by their companies: Nikon & Canon.

From point of view of dynamic range and low light high ISO noise, which one is better ?
The Nikon Z7 II does not have an anti aliasing filter. What about the Z8? Does it have it? Thanks.
Z8 doesn’t have an AA filter either
Thankyou
You’re welcome 😊
Would be better to compare under exposure at ISO 200-1600. Photos to photos clearly shows that z8 has less DR than Z7ii at the mid range ISO values.
That would be an interesting test to look at as well. Good idea.
This test video is the reason why i didn’t sell my Z7ii,bought the Z6iii, and selling my 2 old Z6’s for a cheap bargain price😫
Я выбрал Z7ii , и три святве линзы спасибо , больше не нужно )
try dynamic range at iso 200 and 250 and 400 the z7 ii is much better
how this can be , its the same sensor

The eye detection for wildlife n birds, moving figures is naff compared with the Z8... That's the only ball nikon dropped
