Sharpness and better image quality on Nikon Z7II is not just about more megapixels. Nikon Z7II doesn't have optical low-pass filter which provides higher levels of detail. On the contrary Nikon Z6II has optical low-pass filter as well as many other camera brands, which reduces image quality
I am currently torn between these exact 2 models as my first foray into mirrorless cameras. Would you be able to offer any insight into which of these 2 might be the better choice? :)
Thanks for the comparison. The detail of the Z6 files was quite close to the Z7 and great news for budget photographers. What I noticed, which surprised me, was what appeared to be a loss of detail in the trees on the Z7 files compared to the Z6 files when downsampled to match the Z6 file size. Maybe it was just the video resolution. Not sure if you could see it on the actual files. With so much excellent noise reduction software out there, this should be a minimal issue in reality.
Hey James, I didn't notice a loss of detail in downsampled Z7II files, so I'm guessing maybe it's the youtube video processing or something. Was there a specific image where you noticed the loss of detail? If so, let me know the timestamp and I'll take another look at it and see if I notice anything.
z6 looks better to me, i dunno why but he kept saying how much more detail there is on the z7ii and i literally could not tell. i was gonna switch to the z7ii but changed my mind after this video. ill save up for the z8 lol
These tests are quite good and it makes me feel good since I have the Z5 and I also shoot with the D850. I noticed that the Z cameras have good lenses that helps with clean images and good contrast over all.
The most interesting thing here is that the z6 shoots at a faster shutter speed meaning that is actually brighter allowing you to shoot at lower iso settings and getting less noise than the z7. I'm sold on the z6
Thanks! It was also possible to compare the detail by increasing the z6II image to 45 mp)) It is clear that there will be no difference between the z7II and the z6II at 24 mp - but will there be a difference after the z6II is resized to 45 mp?
@@ZJMichaels Hi! But this is the simplest mathematical problem))) - even Photoshop is fine. This will allow any amateur to understand whether it makes sense for him to spend money on the 7II, or the z6II will allow him to see the same minute details in any photo viewer by simply zooming in. Of course, anyone can try it themselves - but it is much more convenient when there is a wonderful test like yours))) But the resize to 24 MP also helps to understand whether it is possible to mask noise from a more megapixel camera.
@@ZJMichaels Also, if possible, it is worth adding a comparison of photos to your tests in any program where there is work with layers (by adjusting the photo to the same resolution) - comparing the difference will be even more visual - you can switch layers at a larger scale on the video, and the difference will be noticeable better than when you try to look with your eyes to the right, then to the left (even when you pause the video). In general, if there were both options, it would be ideal.)) I don't speak English very well - I hope you will understand me.) With respect and best wishes, Oleg
I have a Nikon D800 with 36 megapixels, but I know that the Nikon Z6 II has other features. I'm afraid that with only 24 megapixels, my photos might lose quality. Also, the Nikon is priced at 1700 euros, which is very affordable, and I already have lenses for it. My question is whether I should wait to save more and buy the Z7 if it's worth it, or stick with the Z6 II and invest in a good lens. I also considered the Sony A7 IV, but I don't have lenses for it. What do you think?
Making a print is where you will see the differences. Computer screens are great equalizers with a lot of different cameras. Color differences stand out more than resolution differences on computer screens. For people who rarely print they are better off putting money away to take their camera on a trip
question - having the huge difference in sensor megapixel count, and same resolution on the monitor which you’re viewing the images on - How can they have equal inage sizes displayed at 100% both - in your side-by-side comparison? the Z7 image should be shown much larger on screen
The full res Z7 II images do appear larger than the Z6 II images on the monitor when viewed at 100% / 1:1. The downscaled Z7 II images appear equal in size to the Z6 II images since they are scaled to the same resolution as the Z6 II
@@ZJMichaels So, you were not(!) comparing the images at 1:1 ratios… So, how does your comparison make any sense then, based on what you were demoing in the video. If you downsample images, the if there had been any regular repeating patterns, these would have mosaicked to bands, e.g. with checkered patterns - render diagonal bands
The video shows comparisons between full resolution Z6II files and full resolution Z7II files, as well as comparisons between full resolution Z6II files and downscaled Z7II files. In both scenarios the images were compared at a 1:1 pixel ratio between the images and computer monitor.
@@ZJMichaels Well for me as portraits and event/news photographer who does not need much mp Z6ii works fine! I wanted to upgrade to z9 or z7II that I may get more Dynamic range or better colors etc which normally you should get from a high megapixel camera like z7ii and z9 but I did not see any difference between z6ii and those... So I wait for z7,6III
The Nikon Z6 ii has dropped to 1499 euros! What do you think? Is it worth it? Taking into account that a camera is going to accompany us for at least the next decade while Panasonic S5II with the L mount is out there at 2.200 euros body, and Sony A7 IV at 2700 euros? The L mount has few so few lenses and the taxes are devastating. But the price for the same quality is comperable to E mount.. at least in Europe. So what do you think? Nikon Z6ii at 1500 for the next decade or it is NOT that future proof ???
Wait for 15 years Nikon Z6 & 7 cameras still do not have flip screen to vary-angle selfies, body size and weight are big and heavy, I have to change to Canon for R6II camera which is lighter and have vary-angle flip screen.
Check the video description for gear discounts, my gear list, and more. Thanks for watching!

Happy with my z6II 😅 no need for z7ii which dropped in price to €2400! Sensor of z6II is amazing!
I am
About to make a purchase. I think for the money I’ll save I’ll god 6ii and grab a lens
Very nice comparsion. I have Z7 & Z6II, same conclusions. Z7 for max quality, Z6 for max reportage

I noticed Z6ii slightly better on downsampled aswell. I would expect this with Z6ii having larger pixels and better iso capability

Theres definatly a magenta cast on the corrected under exposed nef files from the z611 and this has been reported so many times on other vids

I normally don’t do upscaling, but maybe I should for future tests. Do you know what the best upscaling software is?

That would have be one damn large print.
Nonsense. If there is a difference, then looking at 100% on a monitor will show it just as well as a large print.
19:03 Whats wrong with colours on Z6ii? Trees are more brown where on Z7ii more greener
Could be a change in lighting conditions (you can see there is some time in between because of the clouds) or white balance is on auto.
Doesnt the down-scaling skew the comparison?

you can do a test with the p60 pro that is being a very good one more than s23 ultra
