    I remember BIG MAN from 1958 when I WAS 8!!!!! Like others, I'm seeing this for the first time. I always loved the way the piano player banged out those chords in between the verses!! It reminds me of taking piano lessons back then when I was a kid!. Now I'm 73. The other day I figured out a reasonable facsimile of those chords and banged out that riff on a church piano. I heard giggling, turned around, and saw a half dozen little kids, aged 6-11, DANCING!!!!

    This is 33 yrs old and I'm just now seeing it. Absolutely blown away by their performance. These guys are older than I am and I'm pushing 80. Chances are some or most are now dead. So sad. This was music of my early years and in my mind will never be topped or equaled. Don't know what they were paid for this performance but it wasn't enough!

    Bruce Belland went to the same church, I did [in the 50's]. Though, much older than I. We both attended Hollywood HS. He probably graduated in S' of 1955. Then attended UCLA. Friends of Ricky Nelson, who also went to HHS and Bancroft Jr. HS. Ricky's name was in an old music text book. Our Music Teacher, Mr. Hagedorn...showed it, to us. Bancroft is still there. Just sharing some 'tid bits', here. Lot's of great talent, in those day's. "The Four Preps" also sang and Bruce played a sax, in the origional movie, "Gidget", with Sandra Dee and James Darren. About 1958 or '59.

    So sad three of the guys are gone Jim Pike, David Summerville, Ed Cobb, which leaves only 1 original member for the Four Preps( Bruce Belland on stage here), the Lettermen and the Diamonds. Thank God we have their records, TV clips, videos and shows like these. God bless them all and whoever uploaded this.

    What a performance! I know many of them are gone. But I would like to thank them for the immense pleasure they still provide and for a long time! I'm French and here they are not known but I love "The Diamonds", Dave Somerville of course, "The Four Preps" and "The Four Lads". Thank you to these talented singers. Amitiés de France.

    Absolutely sublime!!! Wish I was back 40 or more years ago (with this video, at least). Listening to so much talent, gallantry and class, as it were.... oh yes !! Four gentleman having a wonderful time doing what they do best; singing perfect sounding 4 part harmony. I personally adored "The Diamonds" for quite some time, and found myself in a deep chagrin at loosing David Somerville. A very charismatic, wonderful singer with a huge vocal range. Not to mention his amazing falsetto ability. P.S. He also wrote the theme song of the ABC series "The Fall Guy", in the 80's.......
    Hate to say, but doubt very much I will ever find these kind of raw and wonderful talents ever again.
    Sigh..... ty so very much for posting this. I have saved in my favorite.
    Bless you !

      Jerry Reuss Hey Jerry, Long time no see !! For you folks who don't know, Jerry was a major league baseball pitcher and while he was with the Dodgers, Jim Pike and myself as the Lettermen sang the National Anthem before a couple of games. Hey Jerry, where you calling home now ? I know back then you had a home in Anaheim Hills, I think it was.. Jerry was a left hander with the biggest slider I ever saw...

    • @mrgarypike
      @mrgarypike 2 года назад +2

      My friend you are misinformed. Tony sang in a Lettermen group put together by a fella named Mike Barnett for a review call the Newcomers of 29 which was cast by his wife. That Lettermen which Jim Pike never sang in by the way. After that Lettermen broke up Jim and Tony met in a group called Bill Norvis and the Upstarts. When that group dissolved Jim invited Tony to join him and Bob Engemann and they picked the Lettermen name to use. The first Lettermen group was really irrelevant to the famous Lettermen that had the hits. When Bob Engemann left the group in 1967 Jim asked me to tke his place..

    I was enjoying this up to 8:57. "And I'm so glad I'm alive?" Huh? Wrong lyrics. It's as if someone took the arm and scraped the needle across the record. Those of you who remember vinyl understand the metaphor. This "new" lyric smacked of political correctness, and I've had my fill of that BS.

    • @mrocnroll2399
      @mrocnroll2399 10 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, I was going to write the same thing. What's so terrible about "thank God I'm alive". I'll bet Frankie Valli didn't change it in concerts. You are right. Just BS.
