Poor Varan, They never gave him another chance to be in the spotlight that he rightfully deserves!
Don't recall ever seeing the actual movie but I remember seeing Varan in one of the Godzilla movies and immediately fell in love with his design. Really wish we would've gotten to see more of him.
I found the Japanese version online somewhere and watched it. Really not worth it in my opinion.
I bit slow, repetitive military fighting Varan and not enough pay-off on the monster build up beyond the village getting destroyed and a little bit of an airport/refinery area.
I was honestly most engaged when it was in the village and building up to Varan's reveal. It was very King Kong-ish and honestly made for compelling viewing, but after they all escape, it just became a bit stale. Also, the Varan suit is pretty dope, would love to see him come back in some capacity.
Favorite Kaiju, at least he is noticed as a badass in the comics
Same here
Varan is the tragic Hero of Toho's Monsters.
If you look at alot of water monitors their scientific names all start with Varan. I don't know about the komodo dragon but tree monitors, savannah monitors and many others all start with Varan.
Ah okay! I googled "varanopode" and most of the results only had to do with the film. Probably should've looked deeper.
Black Tree Monitor (Varanus Beccarii) like this I just copied and pasted from a reptile fb group. Idk if it's a coincidence or what. Maybe someone liked the name and took it from there. Monitors lizards kinda look like Varan too
Thanks for doing this. As a kid, we didn’t have cable TV and the local stations didn’t run monster movies so my only exposure to them was reading Famous Monsters of Filmland and the ads in the back advertised the Super 8 version of it. When I got a projector and watched it, I thought it was pretty cool. I finally saw the awful Crown International version which should have been called, “Myron, the Unwatchable,” since Varan and everyone else had fewer scenes than that void of charisma known as Myron Healey. I, and others have wondered why anyone thought that people were more interested in seeing Myron Healey than seeing Varan fly, or even pick his nose, which would still be more interesting than Myron Healey.
RIP Varan, I personally thing he's kinda cool
Honestly, how underutilized Varan AND Anguirus are probably big reasons why I find the initial draft of GMK so much more interesting than the final film, which is still pretty good.
That, and the monsters there had a fire, wind, and ice motif going on. And Ghidorah as a hero is sacrilege, I will never get behind that.
Actually, the suit was made of very thin rubber and deteriorated due to a lot of water exposure.
Thank you! I remember the peanut shell trivia at G-Fest during Keizo Murase's interview with KaijuCast.
@@TitanGoji I believe they used peanut shells to make the indents on that back thing Varan has. The Tokyo Shock DVD showed it when they remade Varan's back and Head.
@@LamangoKaijura Peanut shells are great for adding texture to things. I used them when I'm sculpting sometimes.
I maybe extremely late for this video, but despite being a by-the-numbers kaiju film, i actually enjoyed this film as Varan is one cool kaiju that truly deserves more love (by 2022 he actually got a mms announcement despite the odds). I definitely would recommend those who wishes to know more about our underdog Varan here.
Varan being the final villain for heisei Godzilla seems ridiculous now lol. Still hoping he gets a return to the big screen someday
If they get a chance Legendary’s monsterverse should add Varan for a very cheap price because Toho barely used him
And one of the most convincing monster suits in any Toho film of this type (pre-CG Toho films, that is), and great, atmospheric miniature/monster destruction sequences, (well-photographed from low angles and at high speed) on the island.
"Varanopode" is a mistranslation of Varanopidae, which were a real family of prehistoric lizards.
So you probably know this but king ghidorah’s heads were based off varan because one of the workers in gmk said, “Varan is my favorite monster so let’s add the facial fins that varan has on to ghidorah”
So they used the original one for the replacement. Cool.
Varan being one of my favorites is kinda a shame. It’s cool to say he’s had his own movie, but we have never seen him fight another monster which is a shame because imagine in destroy all monster baragon and varan squaring up against ghidorah or varan and baragon also squaring up against Godzilla I’m Gmk.
I like his design! He looks mean and tough 👍👍👍
Petition for Varan to be in the MonsterVerse soon.

GMK Godzilla was supposed to Fight Varan and Anguirus before their Respective Roles were given to King Ghidorah and Mothra
Varan is one of my favourite goji monsters so I had to get the dvd a few years ago for get this… 57 bucks. I did it.
I heard he's gonna be in the monsterverse.
I didn't even know he existed until Godzilla Unleashed. Krystalak, Obsidius, and Varan were the only ones I'd never seen before. I learned the the first two were original monsters made to replace Zilla and King Kong. Took me forever to find anything on Varan; he had only one movie.
Any idea how he was selected for the game? Like I said can't find anything.
I hope criterion collection get the rights to that movie
I will always support varan even if it dosent amount to anything
I really like this film.
Varan the unbelievable 4 stars. How is That possible! Varan needs more
I love this movie
I guess you can say this film was unbelievable
varan is underated :(
Nice
Wow Varan talk about not giving a crap
Varan deserved better than he got. Not enough patagia in kaiju movies. :)
Toho oddly has a long history of missed opportunities with their Kaiju characters.
So one time I watched 2 versions of varan the unbelievable which are the Japanese version and the American version so which one is better the Japanese version here's why so in the American version his roar was replaced by low hissing and growls and in the Japanese version his roar was a reused rodan and 1954 Godzilla oh and the opening of this version is better than the American version of this movie
I hope Varan appears in Godzilla Singular Point!
But to be honest I can’t really see varan fighting Godzilla instead of destroyah still would have been interesting
I miss varan
You're not going to mention how awful the American cut of this film is?
All I can say is that's it's so generic that I don't think it's worth talking about that much.
Varan need love.
I fell bad for varan he always scrapped from movies
The American version of Daikaiju Varan butchered the film. They even cut out the scenes where Varan was flying.
Can I get an F for Varan

Arturo napoleone
What a cutie!
No Varan Is Garbage Not Cute
@@kaijuking2759 Talking bout you
To be honest I dint like this movie
Which version did you watch?
@@TitanGoji I think it was the American version
@@CarlosGonzalez-qp5wp Ah, yeah you're gonna wanna watch the Japanese version, but it's out of print, and a bit pricey online. Unless you wanna try and watch it online for free at Internet Archive.
@@TitanGoji I'll try and watch it online
The original Japanese version was frankly mediocre.
The Americanized version was just a hot mess.
