Thank you! Someone that actually have clear footage and video with good lighting for a change. I’ve gone through 4-5 videos and yours is the best. One video didn’t even show them finding the issues with the speakers but instead they just replaced the whole board. Just picked up a faulty switch yesterday which bad speakers, joy-con drift and joy-con not staying in place. Everything is easy to fix but hopefully the speakers are the fix and not a chip on the board.
I appreciate the feedback! Replacing the whole board is expensive and shouldn't be the first intervention in fixing the speaker issue. I would definitely try new speakers first. If you want OEM speakers, go to the photo where I show the old and new speaker, there is a pattern in the middle of the OEM speakers, look for that pattern when buying on eBay. If the speaker replacement doesn't work, then I would look into the specific chip on the mobo that controls audio. There's a youtuber, NorthridgeFix, he repairs a lot of switches and even shows you how to replace the chips. It's not a task for a beginner, but you can start practicing soldering and flowing with motherboards from failed devices.
the smaller screws on the top, the bottom, the sd card slot, the shield plate and on the sides are all JIS 000 screws. you could use a phillips screwdriver, but it's much easier to damage the screw using it, so take extra care in removing these screws
Thank you man, that's a very good video and very clear instructions. I've seen repair people say other bs and not focus on their tutorial. Yours is perfect. I have a question, i have a similar problem with my switch, sound don't work on the tablet itself but headphone and dock sound works. You think i should replace the speakers?
You're welcome! Yes, that's the exact same issue we had with my son's switch. The headphone jack still worked and the HDMI cable outputs sound to the TV from the dock but the speakers were dead. Switch them out and see if that helps. By the way, my son's switch eventually died and now it doesn't turn on at all. Apparently that's a common issue on the switch, I need to replace two chips on the motherboard to get it going, about $20 in parts but those are pro level repairs. I follow this guy on youtube, northridgefix, and he repairs a lot of no-power switch issues. Good luck!
I don't know where to buy that little cushion. You'll be fine without it. If you really want to replace it, use a hobby knife to cut a square from a sponge or similar material you may have.
@@PlasticArcadia The sd card reader puff? Yes, you can reuse it if you have it. It is delicate so you might tear it by accident. Has similar consistency to weather stripping. Get some weather stripping of similar thickness and cut a piece for it.
No, just the first one, but I noticed the kit in the first link is currently not available on Amazon. The second kit is just a mini screwdriver set for general electronics. Here is another Tri wing set that has everything you need amzn.to/401rB6E I will update the links in the video description.
No, changing the speakers does not impact your data. As long as you have a Nintendo account, the game data is saved on both the switch and the nintendo cloud online. My son's switch doesn't turn on anymore so we bought him a new switch yesterday and after he signed into his account, all the past game data began downloading to the new switch.
A big help. I just say.. ppl get an Ifixit kit. The screwdrivers that came with the parts.. are too big. Hardest part about this.. is tucking in the wires.. that's it. This is super easy to do.
@Chavez Hobbies the kit is good. The one I have, I also use it for work. Every type of security screw for any device can be found in the kit. Adds weight to my bag but it's so useful.
The solution (changing the speaker) is probably the same, but the way to open it is a little different (easier in fact), and the speaker parts are different. Here's a teardown video I found for you: ruclips.net/video/GP1DHRs6V2Y/видео.html
When you remove the heat spreader, you break the bond between the two surfaces. Therefore the paste will not be as effective in cooling down the CPU. Nintendo did a crap job putting on the original paste on my son's switch. No wonder the fan on the switch would run at max with the original paste. In addition, there are aftermarket thermal pastes that cool down the CPU better than the stock paste. Upgrade the thermal paste and you'll notice the CPU run better and the fan will be quieter.
@@toasterguy2333 My personal favorite is Gelid GC-Extreme Thermal Compound. The one I used in this video is Arctic MX-4 which is great too. There are many out there that I have yet to try. Tom's Hardware tests out different pastes and post a their results online, here's the most recent one I can find: www.tomshardware.com/best-picks/best-thermal-paste
Once you have the switch open like shown in the video, pry it up with a plastic (spudger) tool or a plastic card. Pry up on the battery connector to disconnect the battery.
I have replaced my speakers but my switch wont turn on anymore when i plugged in the switch on the dock the switch wont display the battery can someone explain what happened
I would reopen it and make sure you didn't forget to reconnect the battery. Make sure the ribbon cable is fully inserted. You can also try to press and hold the power button for 30 seconds. Try and hold the down button and the power button at the same time. Try and press the power button three times and hold down the power button on the third press. If nothing works it's probably a hardware issue on the motherboard.
That's assuming that the solder was damaged on the speaker wire and those two globs looks pretty solid. If there was intermittent sound then I would have looked at the solder as a problem, but they were dead. There's really no way to know if that would have worked because I don't have those speakers anymore. Unfortunately a month later the whole switch died, no power. It's sitting on the shelf until I can fix it.

Try to replace the speaker yourself to see if that brings the sound back to life on that one speaker.
