      Let's take the RWC 1999 semi where France destroyed the ALL BLACKS! The French flyhalf Lamaison dropped 2 drop goals and a few penalties and brought France back to 24-22 when they were down 24-10 at halftime!
      Now looking at this game, France was phenomenal, but they were missing the clever fly half that could controlled the game a bit better! Du Pont was controlling the game wonderfully, but a cooler-headed flyhalf would have helped him!

    Methinks that the ABs and the Boks understand that the RWC is not a test series; they are capable of playing in all weathers, all stadiums against teams of all ilk, bringing and melding their strengths in a bespoke fashion to overcome whatever lies before them - the ABs with incredible spontaneous synergies of skill and pace while the Boks rest on iron clad defense and ingrained systems of trust and complete commitment. The Final is going to humungous!

    • @rorygilmoreNZ
      @rorygilmoreNZ Год назад +15

      Not to mention the synergies, skill and pace of the Springboks. Don’t know why so many people still think SA players are stuck in a 10 man pattern of unimaginative rugby played by huge men. In reality they’re scrum is not always the heaviest or tallest, or even most successful, but they use it well. In reality they’ve nearly always had fast, small, zippy creative players that produce as much sparkle as anything the AB’s or French have produced. Think players like Breyton Paulse, Brent Russell, Chester Williams, Naas Botha, Danie Craven, Jaco Reinach, Bryan Habana… Etc etc. All relatively small, fast and smart on the counter. SA just happens to also have a few clever beasts around sometimes too. And analysts who think the Boks are characterised by forwards and the kicking game, such as Jeff Wilson still thinks, don’t seem to realise that the AB’s actually kick more than almost everyone. And more springbok tries by ratio have been scored by SA’s backs and wings than the AB’s. If you look at the stats you’ll see that such stereotypical opinions about the Boks are simply inaccurate.

      @@rorygilmoreNZ Finally someone said it, the boks have become so much more than the stereotype that people constantly pin on their backs. they have a formidable backline. So many key moments in the game. Multiple tries from broken play. Eban's intercept knock back. Kolbe conversation knock down. Choosing a scrum from a mark in the 22. Deciding to go for a planned tap and go (from the penalty) from the French 5 meter. Pollard slotting 3 from the 55 meter line. If it wasn't for any of those events, it could have gone the other way.

    • @strugglingabit
      @strugglingabit Год назад +16

      Eban's intercept knock back? Big call from the ref. Images are not clear to indicate that the ball went back. But ok.
      Kolbe conversion knock down. Kolbe left before Ramos started his kick. Blatant error from TMO.
      Pollard slotting 3 from the 55 meter line. This should have been a penalty for France as the SA player had his hand on the ground. Considering the1 point win, you can understand why the French question some of the refs decisions.
      Choosing the scrum was impressive, I agree.
      Other key moments in my opinion that explain that France lost: Fickou not passing the ball for the 2 tries to 0.
      Ramos missing a penalty he scores with his eyes closed in a different context.
      France's poor positioning and handling on SA's first try after they should have been 12 or 14 - 0 up.
      Congrats to the boks for their victory.

Six world cups winners between the two victorious teams, says a lot about the preparation and big game temperament of these two giants. Ireland and France ranked #1 and #2 coming into this world cup and both are out. SA & NZ are ranked #1& #2 now after the weekend. Is it a #1 curse bowed out before the final? Are Argentina and England peaking at the right stages of the tournament? On paper, NZ and SA are the favorites to make the final, and I believe the ABs are starting to believe that a 4th world cup title is now possible because they know they can beat Argentina, England and SA. Who will execute the best game plan in the semis will win. As a rugby fan, I want to see the ABs and SA play in the final with 3 world cup titles each, and see who wins this tie-break of titles, importantly, a chance for Fozzy to prove everyone wrong back home (including me) and have the last laugh. At the end, my prediction is that the winner of this world cup will either be England, ABs or SA. Yet, anything can happen in a knock out competition which Argentina might pull off the most greatest upsets of all time by beating the All Blacks in the semis and beating either England or SA in the final world cup of 2023 because that Michael Cheika is a dam good coach.

    This wasn't France's best chance to win a World Cup. France has been in the RWC Final three times before this.
    This might be the best French team in a generation, maybe even ever, but also look at the other teams. EVERYONE is so much better than five, ten, twenty years ago.
    The All Blacks are not the force they once were, but that doesn't necessarily mean they are worse. I think it means the others have got that much better, and perhaps closed the gap. Wales, Scotland and Ireland are better now than they have been in a long time. This Springbok team is perhaps the best of all time.
    Look at it in context. France were, and are, brilliant! They just got beaten on the day. There is no shame in that. Rugby wins.
