There are similarities that thread throughout every religious and philosophical approach that focuses on awareness of spiritual reality. The Christian mystics--Meister Eckhart, Julian of Norwich, John of the Cross--discuss the same truth that Taoism, Buddhism, Stoicism, Zoroastrianism, &c. does. If the donkey one is riding is heading up the hill of truth, it doesn't matter what name it's given.

My life thus far: living in a large metropolis. Crowds. Traffic jams. Jackhammers. Crime. I never feel at ease. I am not living in harmony with my nature. Soon I will change my environment to one that fits my nature. Open spaces, the wind in the trees, animals around, woods, fishing, hiking, actually seeing stars at night, sitting in front of a camp fire. I will follow this path and I will be a better man for it.

    • @tlduker

I think that a stoic would say, you don’t need to change your environment to find peace. In fact, they warn against seeking solitude in nature as a means of finding serenity. Living in accordance with Nature has nothing really to do with the natural environment or that of a metropolis, but it’s living in accordance with the way Providence unfolds-not resisting what you cannot change.

    • @jdr226439
      @jdr226439 5 лет назад +19

Novice Prince moderation is akin to self control; without superfluity, could be with food, or material possessions. Justice, is doing and standing for what you know is right without bias. Courage in your actions and in keeping your integrity. And wisdom in thinking about things before reacting irrationally, and thinking objectively as possible, also known as common sense. Hope this helps

    • @SocratesPh.D
      @SocratesPh.D 5 лет назад +14

Each is a particular expression of wisdom. The Stoics were virtue monists meaning they thought there was one virtue: wisdom. From this, the others come. Wisdom is the practical knowledge of correct behavior in a given circumstance ['correct' here means that which is in concordance with the nature of the agent].
Thus, Justice is the knowledge to deal practically with other persons in an appropriate manner; courage is the knowledge to put into practice one's moral beliefs despite the circumstantial dangers and moderation is the knowledge of how much or in what quantity we ought to do/have/use something.

Maybe because I'm seeing the world right now in chaos, but also feel calm & peaceful because I know that I only have power over my own mind & feelings, and not external events. my opinion is that we need to live sustainably & that will lead to happiness. most of people’s problems & unhappiness arise from trying to make money & reach their abstract man made goals. & also health is a big part of it too, you likely are not happy if you are unhealthy, it is very difficult to be happy when you are in pain/sick. & living sustainably/respecting nature is a big part of being healthy. most of the barriers to health revolve around not living in accordance with nature- pollution, meat/carbohydrate/sugar heavy diets(which contribute to pollution), modern jobs(which lead to lack of sleep, unnatural, chronic stress, etc), pharmaceuticals, etc

      Do a lot of things.
      Try many sports, hobbies, activities.
Speak to people, engage with others.
      Try things you otherwise wouldn't.
Do things which stimulate you, which you like.
Personally, I tried my hand at many sports (at least 15 types) in my life, but I made a conscious decision to devote my time and energy to only one. This happened when I was in my mid-30s.
My other passions are motorcycling, and creating art. Both of which I also started to do in my mid-30s.
Don't be in a rush, experiment, try, persevere - when the time is right, you will know what to devote your energies to, in the final analysis.
Also, remember, your interests will change throughout life.

The Joy is in the Journey, not the Destination.
Have fun trying things until you find something to be passionate about.
I read once that we should look to what we loved as a child. Everything we need to know we learned in Kindergarten...to quote an old book.
Try taking the Yale Vark test that shows your learning style.
There are nine types of intelligence. You will have more than one.
Knowing your learning style may offer some insight into how you learn. That may be useful to know.
I found my passion was simply Curiosity and a Need to learn.
Try explaining that to a lovely bunch of female Sensors sitting around a kitchen table.
And I do have one other passion for Ferrets. Hence, a Wynstan Ferret, a Ponce Ferret, a Roamy Ferret, a Juliet Ferret, a Mika Ferret, and a Keller Ferret...then I expanded to mentoring raw feeding and rescuing.
Most of my friends and the people I admire are Ferrents. I do admire Einzelganger and his content.

There is no character--despite that useless "character counts" crap they've all been indoctrinated with. All they understand is they have to have the "right" brands, the "right" job, the "correct" political outlook. What a shallow way to live.

Nature does not care about you!
All that matters is consciousness and its contents and more specifically, mental well-being. Nature didn't not evolve the creatures on this planet with mental well-being being its primacy. Nature's primacy, its mandate is only for survival and reproduction.
If you doubt this, just look really hard at nature and you will see suffering which is only to accommodate the mandates of survival and reproduction. A lion who experiences hunger pains because it has not eaten is suffering. A gazelle who runs from a lion out of fear and gets caught and eaten is suffering. Suffering of any kind is simply not worth it but nature requires suffering to accommodate its mandates.

Sadly, I know a few, and know of many more, humans who act largely on their emotions.
You think very, very highly of your fellow man if you think they act rationally…
I would say that many philosophers have actually refuted the 'fact' that humans act rationally - Dostoevskii, for one.

  • @emiliodauvin5059
    @emiliodauvin5059 4 года назад

I wonder about fear and rationality. Somewhere I think there is an important point missing. Curiosity, I believe, is an instinct. I see that in all animals. It’s a precondition for survival. Fear and curiosity are in opposite dynamic relationship. (Curiosity killed the cat). In opposites just like the parasympathetic system. I think both can be cultivated, nurtured, released. Both are instincts. Both are in accordance with nature. Rationality is perhaps therefore not what separates us from animals only in the “logical” sense, but in a spiritual sense: we can aspire to become something else, another animal. We are not “logically” thinking about being someone else - we aspire to become someone else. Aspiration and rationality is therefore intertwined. And it is this, that perhaps separates us from other animals.

How To Live In Harmony With Nature And Reduce Pollution
    1. Many Production Companies Which We Do Not Need Actually For Human Beings Has To Be Stopped
We manufacture so many products and it is creating pollution. So if we minimise our products, pollution would be less.
We produce so many things which we do not need, like cold drinks, leather products, potato wafers, chips, fruit juices, chocolates, biscuits, pickles, ice creams, etc.
Cold drinks, fruit juices, chocolates, biscuits, pickles, ice creams, etc. should be cooked at home only. If we stopped producing this things which are not required for humans, so much pollution could be reduced.
If we colour the clothes pollution occurs. So if we don't colour our clothes, the pollution resulting from colouring the clothes can be stopped. Let everything remain in white natural colour.
    2. We Should Cook Foods In Its Natural Form
We can cook rice and wheat in our homes and eat it. Rice and Wheat is produced in farms. Then it is packed and transported to big warehouses, then wholesalers buy from them and supply to retail shops.
But if a manufacturing company makes bread from rice and wheat, then to make bread a manufacturing company has to be set up, machines and working staffs are needed. When a company is built many other things are also needed. Then at last a plastic pack is required to pack the breads.
So if we start cooking eatable things in its natural form then we do not need many companies like bread manufacturing company, tomato ketchup, noodles, fruit jam, pizza, burger, etc., the things required for the company and the plastic pack, paper box pack and glass bottles. If done like this, so many companies will not be required and hence less pollution for the world.
Also we could save our money like this. If you buy a packet of bread, it would cost you more money than if you cook wheat and rice in home.
Previously before industrial revolution, we didn't have technology, but our foods were rich with nutrients. Now we have technology, but our foods are not rich with nutrients.
If this is done, then many jobs would be lost. For that many peoples should do farming and they should be given loans if they do not have enough money to start farming on their own.
Food, Medicines, Surgeries and Education's should be made free to the world till the world settles down with farming. After that food, medicines, surgeries and education's should be stopped free to the world.
Many people should study botany subject so that they have knowledge of plants and they should do farming.
Is their any another solution, that humans won't lose jobs and also pollution would decrease. Humans have to take this step certainly instead of going on polluting the earth, making wildlife extinct and also mass extinctions of humans in future.
    3. Electricity Pollution
We create electricity from many types of sources like coal, water, etc., but it creates pollution. If electricity created from windmill and solar energy then no pollution occurs in the creation process. But still to manufacture windmill and solar machines pollution would occur.
As I previously said that if we shut down many manufacturing companies which are producing things which are not needed for humans, then the world would not require so much electricity. If less electricity required, then less pollution generated.
    4. Could We Stop Drinking Cow's and Buffalo's Milk
Whatever vitamins and nutrients we get from milk, if we can get it from other eatable things, then we can stop drinking cow's and buffalo's milk. As milk has to be packed in glass bottles and plastic packs and then transported to places. All of this can be stopped.
For infants whose mother's have died or mother's who cannot breast feed their infants, only for them cow's and buffalo's milk should be given. We use milk in tea and coffee. Instead of milk we must use lime with tea and coffee or just plain tea and coffee. A lime should be cut into a few pieces and cooked with tea and coffee or something else can be used instead of lime.

Maintaining raised garden beds is a great way to keep in touch with nature, improve your body and mind, and help save the planet from some of the destructive monocultures. "Self Sufficient Me" is the only youtube channel you will need for all gardening ✌(once you learn the art, share and help others if you are able💙💚💛)

Shouldn't the question be stated as such, "What am I"? We do possess an acute sense of self awareness but are we different at any significant level than the rest of the animal kingdom? We are capable of not only separating ourselves from nature and we see ourselves as above nature and in its control. Nature is perfect. It's only goal is to produce efficient killers capable of reproducing one another. Is man at the top of the food chain? Aren't we already living according to our "nature"? My two cents!
