Sublime indeed. At @1:01:23, that complete smile on Phil's face! The guitar and synthesizer at the end of It's Gonna Get Better just beautifully wraps up the set of those two songs. FM station 95X in Syracuse NY in the early 1980s used to run "double-shots", which consisted of 2 songs back-to-back from the same artist. Keep it Dark and It's Gonna Get Better from this show are a perfect double-shot. Immediately afterwards, also notice the never-ending lovefest in Phil's introductions of Daryl and Chester, before they lead into the "bloody" In the Cage Medley.
Couldn't agree more! Keep It Dark is well-loved (and rightfully so, one of my favorites from the Phil-era), but I always feel It's Gonna Get Better is REALLY underrated. It's such a beautifully moody song that is the perfect album closer to the Genesis album, but the way it's presented here, shifting from Keep It Dark into It's Gonna Get Better so seamlessly really elevates it to a whole 'nother level. What a fantastic show. So glad my parents raised me on this incredible music. 🥰 Nothing beats live music by artists who write their own songs, play and sing live, no pitch correction, no auto-tune, just real as real can be! And when that band happens to be these five guys (because let's not forget Daryl and Chester, they're both incredible and to be honest I consider them to be members of the band considering how long they were a part of their touring lineup), you're in for a real treat!
My god, what a band. I saw this tour in Hollywood, Florida. Has to be the best concert I ever saw. I also saw them in Syracuse NY on their Duke tour. This show, though, in my opinion, was genesis hitting the sweet spot of their career. The band's superpowers were at their peak as well as Phil's voice and his drumming.....my goodness, the drumming! Finishing off with Turn it on Again and that great pop melody was such fantastic ending. Had every one in the stadium bopping. I saw them one last time on their We Can't Dance tour. Phenomenal, but I'm so glad I saw them at their very peak in the early 80s. Aging has not been kind to Phil (or any of us, I guess, for that matter), so I just couldn't go see them on their final tour. I'm glad they got to go out one last time though. What I wouldn't have given though for one more studio album.

Genesis were such a tight live act during this era. A really great show, the one blemish being the popular medley they weaved into Turn It On Again, and the main reason I've never been a fan of that is because Turn It On Again is such a great song on its own and really comes to life in the live setting - I don't want them to dilute that with other people's songs! A great version of Abacab too, on par with the sublime Three Sides Live version. What a way to start a show!

NONE OF US are here forever and Phil gave us the last of what he has left. I'll be forever grateful 🙏. Genesis Giving us one last round especially in these messed up times is a real treat. 😮💨
The version of Mama here is one of the band and Phil's greatest performances. When he sings "Can you see meeeee..." and that bass synth thunders in. Glorious. Also, Afterglow. What a track that is.
Ultra professional stage & video production for 1984. Phil & Chester both of top of their drumming game. Bought the video in 1987- 34 years ago. Hard to believe 😬. Farewell tour underway. Hope it goes well for the guys. Sad to see Phil diminished physically. Saw Steve Hackett just a few nights ago. Top notch performance 🎭. The end of an era. Tempus Fugit.
Personally (as a drummer who started playing because of PC) I think he is in his prime in this era. Absolutely flawless apart from the odd 16th on HBTS which I’ll put down to the primitive Simmons kit 😜 Totally agree with your comments. Great to know there’s others who admire Phil and Chester!
Man, this takes me back. I saw this show in Vancouver. Phil Collins was a great entertainer. The light show was spectacular. And the Turn it on again medley was one of the shows highlights. A great time no less.
This looks like it was shot with multiple 16mm-filmcameras with meticulous planning and stage lighting. This might have been edited on video tape after telecine. IF the camera negatives still exists (which I doubt), a new scan, edit (the opening video effects have to be recreated), and digital restoration would reveal absolute stunning quality. 1980s film stock was already very good and way better than what we see here.
Tears. I laughed until I cried at Phil trying to break Mike's concentration with his bonkers antics during 'That's All'. When he started 'blowing' near the end of the solo I lost it.
I was there and it was a brilliant concert, I had a seat right in front of the mixing desk and the sound was awesome. Princess Di and Prince Charles were there too.
Me too as a 14 year old. If I remember Phil was making references to smoking weed. I thought it was strange as the royals were there.
@@ageise0283 The bass player in Genesis was Mike, but only by default as Anthony Phillips was the better guitarist, and then Steve Hackett after Ant left. It was only after Steve left that Mike stepped up as guitarist, so for live shows they needed a guitarist who could play bass on the majority of the newer material. Legendary session bassist Alphonso Johnson auditioned, but his guitar skills were lacking, so he recommended a guitarist from Milwaukee who worked with French jazz violinist Jean-Luc Ponty called Daryl Stuermer, and the rest is history.

@@antster1983 You're right! that Bootleg is not the same night but yeah, cheers for the correction, wasn't aware of that dubbing the other way around as it were!!! His voice obviously wasn't as strong at that stage of the tour, he was doing the full falsetto thing in Philly 83 earlier in the tour ! :) ruclips.net/video/ozn9AMCHx7Q/видео.html
@@antster1983 whoa that's a revelation and a half

Holy parachute pants and perms, Batman!
Oh dear...I always wonder the following: "Who dressed Mike????"😂😂😂
Unbelievable
Berry Berry nice 80year music
Show
they deleted the moment when the crowd laughed at him when the sans karma chameleon
Steve Hackett left right before it got great
Who was the bassist for this tour?
For most songs, Daryl Stuermer. For the Hackett era songs, Mike Played his parts from the albums
@@ryanmartin456 Thanks
As always with Genesis, no full-time bass player, so shared by Stuermer and Rutherford.
Legendary session bassist Alphonso Johnson auditioned, but his guitar skills were lacking, so he recommended a guitarist from Milwaukee who worked with French jazz violinist Jean-Luc Ponty called Daryl Stuermer, and the rest is history.
the fact that genesis ever did cover a bit of Karma Chameleon will never not amuse me
Didn't like the popular songs medley wanted more Genesis songs shouldn't have let is spoil the concert for me but it did instead of leaving the concert on a high I was left thinking What The F.. Karma Chameleon?
I Knew What I Liked back then a bit of Prog still remember enjoying the concert up to that point.
Must point out nothing wrong with a good pop song a lot have been a part of life for what seem like a blink of the eye.
Bah....you gotta let them have their fun! Ending the show with Turn it on Again and the pop melody??.....wow. everyone was shocked and left that place on such a high note. One of my great memories.
Those leather pants..... There's a style I never want to see again!

What the fuck were they thinking with that medley at the end.
@@timothyking152 I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Corny banter between song and over the top gesturing during song. Had to as the rest of the band are a bunch of stiffs. Phil you will be missed!
Was soll sowas? Das entspricht nicht mehr dem Original!
the last 40 minutes of this thing is so badass!!
