Been a yes fan since the 70's; saw them in concert several times, but to your opinion on best rock vocalist ever.....no. But it's all taste an opinion, right?
Jon has been a part of my life for almost 50 years now. My sons revere him He kept one of them sane as a Marine in the desert of Iraq. My grand-daughter is now getting to know him. He is without peer.
This is my favorite rendition of "Awaken," - yes, including the original studio version. This one has something that I cannot hardly even describe, but we all can feel it.
WOW!! A life time Yes fan from 1968.... and that version of Awaken is just ... so unbelievably good! As good as the studio version and the best live offering I've ever seen. Anderson sounding at his absolute best still - and what a fantastic and amazingly talented team are Todmobile. So many star performances. Just Amazing! More! More! More!
My High School drummer buddy had a rock concert date with some chic that cancelled last minute and he called me to buy the ticket and go with him. The ticket was for Jethro Tull and some unheard of back up band called "Yes." The rest is history. I was hooked.
I am lucky enough to be old. Very old. Lucky me found Jon Anderson in Soho in London way back in either the late 60/early 70s in a bar with Chris Squire. Mabel Greer's Toy Shop became Yes and I became a groupie. Not a real groupie but a follower...a serious follower. Jon's voice takes you somewhere else, somewhere ethereal, somewhere magical. I am not embarrassed at saying this - Yes literally changed my life and my belief... and showed me what music was, what it meant to say and what it meant to.....yes, the soul. The eventual team of Anderson, Wakeman, Bruford, Squire and Howe just did it for me - perfection...WHAT a sound, what sheer joy. I think I have every recording, have been to so many concerts in so many iterations, but it is the sound of HIS voice that does it. Tod Mobile are a stunning band with an amazing orchestra and choir and they take Awaken from heaven and force it beyond...just find some decent headphones and play it to yourself...and then again and again. Grown men with a heart WILL shed a tear if they 'get it'. ok so the meaning of some of the songs is a little 'other worldly' but certain lines leap out at you and...well...are perfect. Like the time I ran away - turned around and you were standing next to me. I don't care if this was part of a poem written by others or wherever it came - it is just perfect. This whole concert is amazing, beautifully orchestrated and played with sheer joy. Jon is superb as always and the choice of tunes good. If Awaken was 30 mins long rather than the just about 20 mins I reckon listeners would have passed out with sheer pleasure. I managed to buy the CD of this and the Tod Mobile concert and it is even better than the you tube show as the dvd is perfectly in sync...but I come back to this you tube full concert month after month anyway. Thank you Jon for the sheer pleasure you have given this serious fan over the years, and also for the work and tours you do with the music school (even though they all look as if Daddy paid for them to be on stage with you)! Accrington Stanley rocks...sort of..
"Awaken" is my favorite Yes song and this is hands down my favorite version. Todmobile is AMAZING! Such a remarkable interpretation of these great songs.
I agree , Ron- he is lost in his music- but so found. I am 69, loved yes as a young person, as an adult- through raising 3 daughters; still , their songs are deep inside..n the love n feeling came out when I listened to this n saw the lead guitarist so into the music!!..n the orchestra doing their parts so well..had to wipe my eyes a few times!
Jon Anderson.Greatest singer of ALL time.Multi-instrumentalist :Harp/12 string/6string. The closest voice to Angelic in communion with the almighty Logos.Transcendental! He appears as if in ecstasy!✨🎼🙏🏼🎼✨
This is the best version of AWAKEN - Anderson is in excellent voice proving that he is the most unique, the longest lasting and the BEST SINGER OF OUR TIME.
When will we recognise Jon Anderson as the national treasure he is? To have that remarkable, unique voice. Instantly recognisable and so beautiful. And he sings better than he EVER has! Who does that? At his age. Honestly, who? And these songs still matter so much to so many people.
I don't care who originally wrote what musical bits in Awaken --this song is Jon's soul guiding. Especially when Todmobile plays it precisely as written for the studio. And hey--that Viking operatic tenor! Brilliant! And this performance is the best one for Jon's reaching in and pulling the guts out of it and even making that hinky ending sound beautiful
I have yet to hear any singer approaching Jons age whose vocals sounds as unphased by time. It's remarkable. Pair that with the facts that nobody sounds even remotely like him, and he and (along with Yes) have created a sound palette unlike any other. An amazing and remarkable career. Certainly he must be considered some kind of a goat. Pick a category!
Jon is showing that the music of Yes is eternal and universal, and will be played by musicians and orchestras for centuries to come, just like the Classical composers of the past.
I agree in general, but with Rick on keyboards an orchestra (and choir as well) would become unnecessary. By the way, this goes for MAGNIFICATION also (Tom Brislin did a great job during the MAGNIFICATION tour).
@@DrDES-dp6un Rick is MAGNIFICENT, but I actually like the initial keyboard entry in this version better than the original, which to my ears sounded a little too speedy for the mood
"Awaken" is one of my favorite Yes tunes of all time. I love another song from "Going For the One" as well, "Parallels" is majestic beauty I'll never tire of listening to.😊
Superb concert everyone, especially keyboards, was also particularly fascinated by the backing singer group ....the lady in the white dress, is a kickass pro performer and literally owned the stage in so many ways, brilliant !
MrPicky thank you for the info re Andrea..... as a musician of some 60 yrs in UK I kinda pride myself in knowing when I’m in the presence of greatness, Andrea hit me right between the eyes, right away! With so much talent on that stage the superlatives come thick and fast but Andrea just stood out for me. shes bold, funky and struts her stuff with authority and oh what a kickass voice Music of this calibre is a rarity today.....totally loving it!
Fantastic playing by the guitarist (I can't figure out how to spell his name) and the arrangements are top notch. Probably the best version of Awaken I've ever heard.
While I don't know about that, I most certainly love this rendition. The cruelty of performance, though, is that the masters of composition (Anderson, Howe, Wakeman, Squire, and White) only have one representative from their cohort here. The music transcends because of THEIR mastery. Nevertheless, this is a beautiful performance, that hopefully will endure the ravages of time.

Brilliant. I saw Yes play Awaken live in Philadelphia in the late 70's ... beyond virtuosity, it was a spiritual event. This is remarkable. Thank you Todmobile for bringing this back to life.
Spiritual was in 72 in New Orleans on 2 hits of acid. Great show. Maybe the best I have seen. Still listen to their music regularly. I ran across ( on RUclips) a show from 73 I think in Baton Rouge,I was at that show as well. Great band.
