No I don’t own any sets myself, and really don’t know much about the theme tbh. I will say that I’m considering getting one of the sets used at one point as I think all the sets look pretty great!
Little late to the party, but I just recently found a lot with 5 or 6 mostly complete LEGO TMNT sets, so I decided to go through and buy every LEGO set based on the 2012 show. I don't have any of the movie sets, but I consider my collection complete.
It's a shame because the franchise has so much potential. As someone who grew up with 2012 Turtles, I would have loved to see characters like Tiger Claw, Rahzar, Super Shredder, and a lot of locations and sets.
I hear you brother, it is heartbreaking that Lego didn’t continue their TMNT line. It would have been SO AMAZING to see more characters and locations from the 2012 series as it went on, getting sets and minifigures from the previous cartoons and movies, and so on. It could have really taken off the way DC or Marvel or even Harry Potter have for the company, appealing to all different kinds of age groups with different sets based on more generations of the franchise.
Makes me wonder what Paramount’s licensing fee was, as that is one of the bigger unknowns for me right now. The video made some good points in TMNT’s case, and I’m sure BI did the same in his SpongeBob one. As for Avatar… Judging by the photos I’ve seen of those, the attempt to match the show’s style in the way they did for the Clone Wars sets really didn’t work out all that well.
As a massive TMNT fan (especialy 2003), I'd love Lego TMNT to make a return like Lego Lord of the rings has this year. Smaller playsets for kids and a UCS set for older consumers.
LOTR didn’t get small play-sets, sadly, I think Indiana Jones would be a more apt comparison since the theme returned suddenly this year and got both a big display set for adults and small play-sets for younger fans.
I will always be upset that this line failed. I was OBSESSED with the 2012 show as a kid and only ever got one set: The Turtle Lair. I would’ve loved to see more, maybe even some based off of the 80s show or Mutant Mayhem. Also, the sale prices are an absolute pain. Only one I’m currently missing right now is Mikey. Hopefully I can find some of the sets at Brickfest this year!
Really fantastic video Ace! I really loved the LEGO TMNT line based on the Nick show. I bought my first set (the one with fish face) even before I liked the show, and I still loved the set! I really wish that the LEGO line had continued, because I became a BIG fan of the Nick show later on. Honestly, I wish they did some Rise of the TMNT sets too, because DAMN is that show wild!
I think a big factor in these buildable TMNT lines consistently failing is due to the fact they have to directly compete with the various action figure lines. And since TMNT as a brand is so synonymous with action figures, a lot of the merch sales were going to them (Plus the occasional rolepay weapon and turtle gizmo here and there). Whereas a buildable line like the Lego is not going to be really in the know on any BTS developments, so they have to constantly play catch-up with the characters in the show. To be perfectly honest, I think Lego's TMNT could hav made a better effort in design. The turtles should have had their correct skin tones, and there should have been way more sets thag look accurate to the show. The only sets that look accurate to the show are the Shell Raiser, Shredder's Lair and the Turtle Sub. Everything else was not only weak in design, but looked nothing like the show. Look at Lego's 2012 sewer lair it looks absolutely *nothing* like the 2012 sewer lair, which would have made an amazing Lego set. Also, you're right, they should have been on time with the show. If they were, we would have gotten Casey Jones, Tiger Claw, Slash, the Squirrelinoids, and other season 2 characters. Every single Lego TMNT set pretty much only covers season 1. I don't think there's a TMNT curse when it comes to construction sets. Is Lego made good, show-accurate sets based on the 1987 series or the 1990 movie, I GARENTEE they would sell like hot cakes.
1 I loved the original megabloks line, still have a lot of the location sets. but yea, casey jones never removes his mask lol 2: The lego stuff was cool, but hard to justify getting large sets just for the characters i wanted. 3: The megaconstrux line was awesome, but they NEVER SOLD THEM IN ASIA! it was IMPOSSIBLE to find the blind bags online without crazy prices! so I gave up after just a few.
I really wish Lego didn’t end their deal with Nickelodeon right before Lego Dimensions was being made, because I have spent all these years imagining what it would have been like having SpongeBob and TMNT as part of the game. That would have been the best!
I remember seeing the Lego ninja turtle Michael Bay Lego sets and really wanting them because I thought the turtles looked so neat but I still remember how darn expensive they were and I never got around to getting them
Amazing work on the video! I really enjoyed getting to take a walk down memory lane and learn more about one of my favourite LEGO themes. Happy New Year and I can’t wait to see what other content you’ve got in store for this year!
I loved Lego TMNT 2012 when I was a kid. Wish I got one of the sets. Shame Lego TMNT died off, but at least the Lego Fortnite skins brought it back in at least some capacity.
The Mega construx collector series is so underrated and so unique I love them, just said I could not get the full collection I'm missing about 6 main figures
I was never surprised the ninja turtles line failed, the only thing that surprised me was that many years later they gave it another try. Ninja Turtles was too niche by that time to have a Lego theme, yeah, I liked it when I was 5yrs old, but it had no staying power like Harry Potter, or Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Batman, or Lord of the Rings.
I remember buying the mega turtle van set with the spring loaded Raphael and buying a bunch of the mystery packs and some remains of the figures are still in my old Lego bins
I actually have a few Lego sets. Shellrasier, Stealth Shell, Turtle Sub, Shredders dragon bike, Kai’s bike chase, and the turtle lair. I loved the show growing up by the way.
I have Lego, Leonardo and Rafael. I still Donatello and Michelangelo but I’m looking for ice cream kitty for a stop motion series that focuses on the planets, action figures, and some marvel legends characters that I have crossover baby mainly X-Men crossover, but a lot of the other marvel heroes will make their appearance along with my OC, which is me as the human torch a younger version of him
There are 2 things i think LEGO should do to redeem the franchise: -A CMF Series with exclusive special characters that wouldn't appear in a set -a UCS Turtle Lair set with a decked out Battle-Shell
I remember a magazine promotion they had for a lego con I went to with a friend as a surprise from my mom and we both got a that Raph minifig still have it and we both bring it up every once in a while
I wasn't able to buy the Lego sets when they came out but I bought them on bricklink years later. I made sure to get splinter, the 4 turtles, and shredder. I mostly buy sets off the minifigs. I would've killed to get bebop and rocksteady. A super shredder from secret of the ooze would've also been amazing. Casey Jones would've been awesome too. I didn't bother to watch the Michael Bay movies and was shocked to find out from this video that there were lego sets based on them.
It really is sad that it failed, because Lego was putting in the effort to make these sets as cool as possible but for whatever reason they just won't sell. I realy hope that someday Lego gives TMNT another shot, because with the help of the fans suggestions and feedback it can really become something special fot TMNT fans of all ages
NGL if Lego did a TMNT CMF series I'd buy for Bebop and Rocksteady alone lol let alone if we get like a Tokka and Razar or something Shame it'll probably never happen, and I'm guessing it's for the same reason we'll never see a Star Wars CMF line (which would also be great for filling out characters who are hard to design sets around like a Revenge of the Sith Padme) Weird observation maybe, but all the Lego lines centered around furry characters seem to fail? Fabuland, TMNT, Chima, Vidiyo... It's kind of a shame 'cause I'd love more diversity there.
I was obsessed with the 2012 ninja turtles when i was way little. My parents got me a lego with with the ooze and krangg, and the ooze just looked so much like candy the i almost choked to death on it. Luckily i was dumb enough to eat a lego, but smart enough to go find help
I still remember seeing the Michael Bay TMNT sets when I was younger and wanted them so bad but they were just so expensive for something that didn’t felt like justified like the cheapest set was like $39 C
I sadly wasn’t old enough to purchase Lego TMNT at the time. But I did buy blind bags of the Mega Blox versions. Man I would’ve gotten the Lego ones if they were still around.
I had some Lego tmnt sets and they were really awesome, as well as mega tmnt sets that I still have built. The mega blocks tmnt sets are honestly really awesome, I have the first shell raiser and it’s really fun and well made, as well as a mirage comics set that may be my favorite tmnt set even above Lego. Everything kind of marbled in black and white looks really awesome with a good looking building and really great figs. I really hope Lego or mega can pick the theme back up to some success soon
Man, I wish we got more TMNT sets, I REALLY wanted them to make Rahzar, Mutagen Man, and the fly version of Stockman, and Bebop and Rocksteady did eventually appear in the show, so we might’ve gotten them too… such a shame…
Plus why get the sets when you could get the actual 2012 playmates toy line that was also coming out at the time? I feel like TMNT adult collector set would do pretty well if based on Mirage and 87 in the form of a huge technodrome , turtle van, or lair.
LEGO TMNT was one of my favorite themes. Due to part of me being a huge Ninja Turtles nut. I love all incarnations and when I saw sets based on the 2012 show I went nuts!
Thanks to the big rig snow mtn set, I discover Karai would be in the movie & got sooooo excited, just for her to get more likes than Tatsu in the og movies
I had all four turtles' Splinter and krang. Never got my hands on Shredder. Unfourmetly a problem came up ( some of my uther lego heads had it too) the paint was chipping off the head and mainley the mouth. The turtles looked like they had green on thier teeth.
I have the LEGO TMNT figures from the 2013 series: all 4 🐢, Splinter 🐀 , Shredder and April O Neil. Each figure came with a skateboard with corresponding colors, pizza and weapon of choice. Each figure was relatively cheap at $5.
I wish you mentioned that in comicon Lego released Exclusive, TMNT figures but I guess that would’ve been unnecessary. Then you would’ve have to do it for all the other things you mentioned for exclusive things.
I loved the 2012 range, I had most of the 1st wave, only one I didn't get was the sewer chase with Fish-legs, and had anywhere locally stocked the second I'd have brought that too. Sadly that all got sold on, only bit I have left is the instructions for the Mikey vs Krang $10 set as it had gotten muddled up with some others and couldn't find it when I sold them.
Say whatever you want about the Michael Bay Movies, but I always felt like Donetatella with a pair of binoculars on his head was Peak character design. And it was no different in Minifigure form.
I actually owned a few of the sets as a kid and still have the figure today… wish the line was more modern Lego style… I was too young at the time to appreciate the LEGO line in its run probably, I let the sets break and go into the bin and never completed the set. Only had the pizza truck battle and bike 10$ one 😅
As a ninja turtles fan i really likeed the lego and mega blocks sets. But after i got the figures i wanted i didn't care much. And that doesn't seem to out of place for this ip if you look at what sells well it's mainly action figures
Turtles has a similar problem with action figured. I’m waiting for them to make some really accurate ones. They’ve recently released some pretty cool 90s movies ones (I think it was the 90s) so I’m hoping we’ll get more like the 2012 ones, 2003 ones and the 2007 ones (my 3 favourite ones)
I liked the Lego 2012 figs, I only got 2 smaller sets, 1 of which is that $10 Kraang 1 ya talked about. I loved the 2003 figs & sets too tho, that’s what I grew up w/ it
TMNT only needs the Technodrome, The Sewer Playset, and the Turtle Van. Anything else is a waste of time. If you start making other vehicles then you have to remember that the vehicles back in the day relied heavily on gimmicks, many of which were shooting gimmicks. The line was always about the characters, it's why we got so many Turtles back in the day. You can't do that really with a minifig. Look how bad Kreo's did.
You clearly did not grow up with the 2012 show, the main problem I would say was that there was too much put out at the same time. Okay, I agree that they should have put out recognizable locations first with the main characters, and if they did well in sales they could have continued continued with the sets we did get, but I will not tolerate someone saying the 2012 TMNT sets were a waste of time.
Its honestly sad to hear that tmnt 2012 lego and megablocks failed. But on the other hand playmates and other toy companies had massive success on toys when the show was airing.Only they had bit of loss when rise of the tmnt started, cause most people hated that show.So tmnt 2012 was actually huge success in toyline.Just not in lego or megablocks.
I wish legos tmnt continue making of the 80’s version. I did brought counterfeit version of bebop and rocksteady from comic con. Some minifigures are fan made
You didn’t even mention how TMNT was planned for Lego Dimensions at some point in development but was scrapped after they ended the licensing deal. THAT was such a tragic loss for the game, as was the loss of several other properties planned such as Shrek, Mega Man, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Looney Tunes, Smurfs and tons more.
@@MyBrickOpinions Lego Dimensions doesn’t get talked about enough nowadays, and I feel it deserves some love for all the amazing crossovers it gave us and what it did to introduce so many amazing franchises to a new generation of people.
@@MyBrickOpinions Could you also do a video talking about the franchises that were planned but didn’t make it to the game? People deserve to know about what could have been.
Mega blocks/construcs turtles is so awesome and beautiful. They were too pricey for me back then, but... I bought some of the sets and enjoy it more than MandR LSW
Quick question did any of you collect tmnt, and if you did how many sets you got?
I have all of them from 2013 and up💀💀 and MOST of the mega block ones

I've only ever had 1 TMNT set and I'm just glad I got my Raph minifigure
Say whatever you want about the Michael Bay Movies, but I always felt like Donetatella with a pair of binoculars on his head was Peak character design. And it was no different in Minifigure form.
I grew up around that time TMNT and Ninjago were popular. I only got one TMNT set, but I had a ton of Ninjago sets
Those foot soldiers from the 2014 movie wave are still top tier figures
The classic tmnt Mega bloks and Mega Construx sets and canisters were awesome!
Yo, it is great to have you back ace! Can't wait to see more new content.
I remmember in 2016 waiting for the out of the shadow sets and then... 😓😓😓😓
i wonder if the lego tmnt skins in fortnite means we might get a return to the theme....
If LEGO didn’t cook with the redesigns, it would mean they aren’t bringing them back. Therefore, the turtles are returning.
I loved the 2003 figs & sets too tho, that’s what I grew up w/ it
I’m subscribing just because of that. Cool, awesome intro.
Never really new much of tmnt growing up. I’ll be hunting all these sets down, they’re all really cool
6:10 sounds like lego Scooby Doo all over again
I got the Mega Blocks lair set for my 6th birthday, I wish I still had it 😭
TMNT only needs the Technodrome, The Sewer Playset, and the Turtle Van.
He said as a fan of all the "3 Turtles.."
*What ninja turtle does he hate!?*
1:10
I meant it in like “all 3 versions of ninja turtles” but if I had to hate a turtle Leo is overrated (he’s also my favorite)
Did I see right those Mega Bloks still laying around were selling for 800$ and 700$ sets? Thats crazy for any kids toy
Nop, I live in Mexico, the Quica lent is like 30-40 bucks
My poor turtles got slept on😭
I had the turtle van 😂, I loved that set, such a heart break to here how disappointed you were in it.
Wdym? I love the turtle van
I think a UCS/display set for the classic turtles show with Splinter, the 4 turtles, Shredder, B-Bop & Rocksteady (kind of like Optimus Prime)
Lego dimensions deserves its own vid, I really only wanted to focus on the product that did release and not hypotheticals
@@MyBrickOpinions Oh, it was a great game! It really introduced me to a lot of properties that I am a huge fan of now.
At least Lego gave us Karai
omfg! i totaly had that radical ram set as a kid!
Question where is this store you live by. I loved these ninja turtles for details and to go back to the past one more time would be. Nice.
It’s in a city called Monterrey in the north of Mexico, store is called Julio cepeda
i remember theses 2013 sets, I had the sewer and motorcycle sets from the 1st wave
I want a Lego 80's Party Wagon out of a Lego Creator or Icons series so badly 😞
Imagine if they did a lego Rise of the TMNT
