Tenkai Knights always seemed like a Ninjago/Gundam crossover to me as a kid, and I think that's part of a bigger issue when it comes to anime: Mecha isn't that mainstream. As popular as a series like Gundam is universally, most people can't name a Mecha anime outside of it or Evangelion. Now try to make something like that and market it towards kids, and you've got a whole audience of people who have no clue what they're looking at. In the West, giant robots are either Transformers or Megazords because of the aforementioned lack of recognition Mecha anime has. Heck, there's a bunch of toys from the Tenkai Knight brand that didn't even get proper releases in the states, like the elemental forms. The show was great in my opinion, but it was very obvious that Spin Master lost faith in the ionix brand. It only ever had three themes, and it they sank (the other two being How to Train Your Dragon and Pokemon). At least in Japan the series got more merchandise and recognition besides just the shape shifting toys
I remember Ionix! Back in the day, I got some Ionix Pokemon sets from Toy R Us, and I remember being really impressed by the transforming brick gimmick. I never actually knew that it had it's own original IP and TV series, let alone one trying to compete with Ninjago. Nice to learn something new from a RUclips video.
Its such a shame that Tenkai Knights didn't continued as i believed it to be my favourite and that mucguffin beast. The Tenkai Dragon has got to be my top spot of very good and very powerful Mucguffins (Along side The Arcs of the Cosmos from Sonic Zero Gravity and the Miraculouses from Miraculous tales of ladybug and catnoir)
Tentai Knights feels like a fever dream to me. Since I vaguely recall watching the show and enjoying it, but completely forgot it existed until watching this video.
I felt the same way for awhile, I always remembered the name, but never saw it brought up until I saw another RUclipsr bring up the show. It’s weird because I swear it never aired more than 1-2 episodes on CN and then I never saw it again. I saw more episodes of Super Noobs of all shows on CN than I did Tentai Knights.

I dont think Tenkai Knights was trying to be the Ninjago killer. If anything, it was its own thing that was canceled way too early. They canceled it for the bakugan reboot that didn't do very well in ratings.
This video makes me want to try and find some of my old Tenkai Kinghts. They were the only other brick toy outside of lego that I gad any interest in collecting, and always loved going down to the local k-mart to pick one out. Thanks for reminding me of this interesting toy line from my childhood.
While beyblade was an existing franchise I disagree, because metal fight was a very different reboot in execution. It felt like a new toy line, specifically to my 8 year old self, I remember that first year of metal fury you couldn’t find them in stores.
i used to love this show as a kid and well it may be comparable to be a Lego killer the anime side of the story was much more heartfelt and defies any parallels with Ninjago

I watch tenkai knight it was a fun to watch so much that I rewatch the after not watching since 2015. Does it age well it age decent still wish the guardian didn't stupidly resurrected a villain which to punish him even though being dead is a good enough punishment. if I had the money to bring it back I would reboot it. update stuff some stuff here and there put in 2 villain for the main villain to not over stay it welcome and have them kill one person to at least to make it look like they means business. overall love the show still wish it got it second season it would have been great.
A Tenkai Knight video?! In this day and age!? A surprise for sure but a welcome one! Ive been collecting the japanese copy of all the figures rn cant believe i missed this as a kid
There were a few issues with both the function and concept of the transforming bricks. Functionally, the use of smooth, hard plastic caused the round ball-joints of the figures to quickly wear out. This would result in a floppy figure in about a month's worth of play. Kids would notice that LEGO toys retained their playability and function when compared to other brands. The concept issue, which is more significant, was that once the Tenkai brick was transformed into a figure, there really wasn’t any point in transforming it back into a brick. Unlike Transformers, where either transformation is fun and useful, think of that one scene in “Big” where Tom Hanks’s character is in a corporate meeting with a toy manufacturer. In this scene, the toy manufacturer is showcasing a transformer that transforms into a static, (at least for most kids) boring building. Tenkai Knights suffered from this same problem. The transformation gimmick was, after the first appeal, boring. After the figure was played with, its joints would wear and become loose, and kids notice these things. In my opinion, Tenkai Knights was fun. It was interesting, innovative, and had potential. There was even a pretty good fanbase. But it ultimately lacked the depth-both functionally and conceptually-required for a toy brand to last in the long run.
ive watched tenkai knights about 4 times now, genuinely one of my favourite anime series. its simple but has good messages, stories, and themes. enjoyable watch through and through, funny, and stacked voice cast.
I had no idea until I watched this video how much of my childhood was taken up by Spin Masters, these fellas were my childhood & I remember watching the Tenkai Knights and Bakugan animes at literally any available opportunity to do so, I *LOVED* collecting the Bakugan balls and Mighty Beans simply because I loved collecting them; even the common joke about "Your mother bought you Mega Blocks instead of Legos" was true for me because when I was still at the age where you instinctively put everything you grabbed into your mouth Mega Blocks was what I played with and I still have fond memories of those things. And to really drive home how much Spin Masters was my childhood, I didn't even knew LEGO and Ninjago existed until several months after the Tenkai Knights toy line was released & even then it took me a *long* time for me to figure out that Tenkai Knights and popular LEGO IPs at the time like Alien Invasion, Hero Factory and others wasn't made by the same company and even longer still for me to realize that LEGO and Spin Masters weren't partners in any way. I basically owe my childhood too Spin Masters, and thank you *so* much for making this video MBO cause god damn was I having a *seriously* hard time remembering the names of these shows (I was never the best at remembering names to begin with).
I got into the Tenkai Knights when it came out, and eventually got my hands of some of the sets. Unfortunately, time has not been kind and a lot of the pieces have started to break down as the years go on
It's really cool to see how spinmaster has developed over the years. One of the newest lines I feel has garnered a lot of admiration from collectors is their new PlayStation action figure line, especially for the articulation and price point of the figures
I remember my second or third grade class had some, but like half of them were broken so I never really played with them, I always thought they were pretty cool though
I loved watching it on cartoon Network and thought it was awesome and I wish I could have gotten some of the toys when it was still around specially one of my favorite characters which is the multicolored general of the Korokai. And if it's misspelled and if that's not the right name of the group that is on the Knights side.
I had a few of the minifigure bricks and i thought they were great. I was in my 20s when the toys came out but i really liked the quick transforming and how everything clicked. It was satisfying to take off a shelf and fiddle with
God i miss them it was so good!, I loved tenkai knights it's hard to get your hands on certain characters now like dromus i can't find him anywhere online. I'm just glad i got him sometime back in 2020-2019. They were really creative and smart i loved the idea of it being able to transform it seemed liked the coolest thing ever. Show is pretty good for it's era with it's 3d cgi scenes as well.
hey it's tenkai knights! i've got a little tributon on my desk right here and a titan bravenwolf in a box somewhere or other. the fact that they never released a venetta set or gave her a titan form is still a sore spot for me
im so thankful for finding this video because i loved watching the anime as a kid, but i never knew that it had a toy line with it somehow, so now that i know what it's called i can go back and watch it again! :D
Wow, a friend of mine give me the titans of the villain, the yellow one and the red one, bc he said that "i know you like legos and do stuff" i actually had fun whit them matching or just put stuff on them
The show even have region differences, when dr white was at the base watching tenkai knight fighting the boss, in English version, Dr. White was talking to himself, but as in the Japanese version, it was actually Dr. White having a conversation with the main characters’ Father😂
This brings back memories. At the time me and my brother watched ninjago, beyblades, and this. We had a really fun time but we didn’t actually know that there was toys for tenkai knights unlike with beyblade or lego. Also funnily enough we stopped watching beyblade after the first part (the one with that Pegasus beyblade) of that gen and with ninjago we stopped watching after the ghost arc. With beyblade we were confused due to the time skip between seasons and with ninjago we got bored.
I like anime at kid and apparently s2 was made in production and cn was happy rates. 3ds game did sucked and got reviewed bomb. That was factor. Honestly I feel it was case of it coming out too late and not having power to stand up for it self .

But it ultimately lacked the depth-both functionally and conceptually-required for a toy brand to last in the long run.
great video! i would’ve loved these as a kid if they were out at that time
Tenkai Knights does feel like one big fever dream. And we didn’t even get a Venetta release. It just kinda came and went
ive watched tenkai knights about 4 times now, genuinely one of my favourite anime series. its simple but has good messages, stories, and themes. enjoyable watch through and through, funny, and stacked voice cast.
I wana get some tenkai knights sets soo much
Especially the tenkai dragon with the updated bravenwolf figure
I freaking loved Tenkai knights and ionix. I mean a Lego brick that becomes a ACTION FIGURE.
I have some of these, I loved the show but nothing can kill Ninjago as far as I know. Ninjago is just too good.
I loved watching it on cartoon Network and thought it was awesome and I wish I could have gotten some of the toys when it was still around specially one of my favorite characters which is the multicolored general of the Korokai. And if it's misspelled and if that's not the right name of the group that is on the Knights side.
I remember seeing the show come on at 8am, was at a pretty low point in my life, and it was fun watching it as a kid
I still have my bravenwolf on my shelf, waiting for hopefully one day they bring them back to stores for a bit
10:27 THEY LITERALLY COPIED BAKUGAN, WTF 😂
I've never seen a competitor call itself a killer of something and be successful.
I remember watching this, probably years after it crashed, and I thought it was fine, but that theme tune is engrained in my brain i swear
No matter what, the anime will always have a soft nostalgic place in my heart.
hey it's tenkai knights! i've got a little tributon on my desk right here and a titan bravenwolf in a box somewhere or other. the fact that they never released a venetta set or gave her a titan form is still a sore spot for me
im so thankful for finding this video because i loved watching the anime as a kid, but i never knew that it had a toy line with it somehow, so now that i know what it's called i can go back and watch it again! :D
2:24 WHEN TWO WORLD COLLIDE ON THE INSIDE
Ive completely forgotten about these, I remember seeing their cape pieces from the knights but I forget where they came from.
This anime was my introduction to several of my favorite voice actors
I’m glad that companies are learning that nothing in the world could ever kill the force that is Ninjago. The show will probably outlast us all.
Ever heard of Bionicle? LEGO themselves did good job on killing it.
@@blacksunserpent Hot take: I’ve always thought Bionicle was overrated. Watching back through the show, it’s alright. I also don’t like brick built figures other than minifigs so ehh.
@@EpicDudeTheEpicestif ur talking about the netflix shows thats the 2015 bionicle reboot which was nowhere near as good as the origanel. Bionicles first generation never had a tv show with the story being told through webgames, comics, 4 movies and most importantly novels and online serials each telling only part of the story. Bionicle is really good just very hard to get into since the story is scattered throughout so many mediums with the faulty distrubution of those mediums bieng the reason it was eventualy cancelled
@@LEGONERD06 I never knew that. Thanks for explaining bro 👍
Just Like The Simpsons And One Piece 💀
I remember the memory of the show would occasionally pop up in my head but I couldn't remember the name and it took me years to find again
Going through spin masters toy history had me constantly being like "THEY MADE THAT?!"
You can’t forget when spin master tried to get into Toys to Life with Sick Bricks
That has its own video coming, don’t worry
Duuuuuude i have five of these and never knew what they were called, thanks for the video!
Great video! But the looping background music that plays from 6:49 to 13:00 is too distracting and annoying, the loop is too short and noticeable 😭
Yeah the background music is something I’m working on improving.
Oh that’s where I got one of those transforming brick dudes, idk how I got one, probably during Black Friday on some random shelf with a bunch of random not selling sets at toys r us
Transformers built to rule had the concept of a stand alone transforming lego piece before tenkai knights
I guess I was born abit later than you, because I barely got to really know bakugan but did get to enjoy all episodes of beyblades, ninjago, chima and tenkai knights. I became a fan of all those shows in the end and bought merchandise of each.
He’s back!
