The feeder service that runs between Aluva metro station to the airport is insufficient for a city of Kochi's scale. Construction for extension of metro till Angamaly via CIAL should commence simultaneously as Phase 2.
True..I wonder why metro was limited till Aluva in the first phase. It should have been connected till airport in the first phase itself.
Not at all necessary at the moment. Unlike other metro cities, Kochi airport serves a wide catchment area - from thrissur to kottayam. So a metro line spending 5000 crores to connect it to the city makes no sense when frequent electic buses between aluva and airport is more than enough. Also, the area between the airport and aluva is not very densely populated.
There is no reason to blindly ape metro cities that have 1cr+ population.
@@attitudego Kochi is much more than what GoK designates as "Kochi Corporation". Angamaly will be engulfed by the city sooner or later so instead of playing catch-up then it'd make more sense to extend the line till Angamaly right away. It'd also result in more footfall as KMRL has been, for years now, wanting more than 1lakh commuters on it's trains everyday. Having a direct connectivity to the metro would greatly enhance the standard of living in Kochi and it'd also result in reduced traffic as more people would have the option to drop passengers at any of the stations on the metro route instead of going all the way to Nedumbassery themselves. I'm talking long-term here. If KMRL waits till land prices skyrocket even more then it'd be more costlier than building a line to Angamaly right away. Also, if you factor in the investments it'd spur in the presently lesser populated regions along the way, the government will eventually recover more than just the 5000 crore it'd spend on extending the line.

@@JGeorge_c just look how wide metro networks of Bangalore, Delhi etc are. Do not underestimate the potential for growth Kochi has. Investment on public transportation options is never unnecessary.
First force the autorickshaw gundas to follow the meter- like in Trivandrum and Kozhikode. This will greatly benefit the last mile connectivity.
