I’m in Germany and usually we also pay a lot of import fees. However, as far as I know Hobonichi already includes those fees upon checkout since their system has changed last year. I’m not sure about Canada, though. I’m also still debating if I should order from Hobonichi directly. I would love to have some Paddington items and they are only available on their website.
Oh, I think I vaguely recall hearing about the import fees being included at checkout. That would help a lot to compare the prices. I may just check it tonight anyways. I’m still 50/50 about ordering direct and it’s tonight! And you’re right, my retailers also do not have the Paddington line! 🤔
Hi Anni, first... excuse me please my terrible English, i'm German😅 Do you know the stationery store in Berlin called Luiban? There is some stuff from Hobonichi and TN on their Online-Shop😊 I wish you a nice day🐞 ... Moni 🙋♀️
@@monikabay8973 Hi Moni, thank you for the recommendation. 😊 I know that shop, and I have shopped at their store in Berlin before. However, their prices for the Hobonichi items are way too high, in my opinion. It's 7 to 10€ more per Weeks. I decided to place one order in the Netherlands because the prices are very reasonable and I was able to get free shipping. I also ordered from Hobonichi directly, as some items are only available there (Paddington items, for example). Anyway, I hope you were able to order everything you wanted.
I think hobonichi has changed the way they do things now in that they guarantee that you won’t get charged additional duties/fees. So what you pay on their website is your actual total. They’ve priced their products higher to reflect this change
This will be my first time buying from the hobonichi website. I'm from the U.S. and when I compared prices this year even with the expensive 20+ dollar shipping from the hobonichi website, it's cheaper for me to order from them. I believe it's 300 usd in order for us to get free shipping but I don't need to spend that much.
Make sure to log in well before the opening time because sometimes the website is overloaded with traffic! I’ve had instances in the past where the cover I wanted sold out in minutes because the page wouldn’t even load. It would help if you had already added your payment details into your account. I’m not sure if it’s still possible to do it right before the launch starts as I think the site was under maintenance to prep for the opening. I’m going to try to do this too.
I would have purchased from a local vendor but the thing that I really wanted wasn't sold there. I did order from the Hobonichi website and the interesting thing is that I spent $160 US and I got an A6 Hon, 4 notebooks, 1 pochitto6 stamp, 1 small drawer pouch, 1 flat pen case, and some double sided tape - plus I'll get the pen and the gift. I was shocked that the shipping was only $34. It was so much more in the past - my total with tax was ~$205. I was really surprised the shipping was so reasonable but I guess they ironed out a few logistical thing. I was curious how much I would have spent at my local vendor and so I went onto their website and priced all of the items I would have been able to purchase there (the Hon, 4 notebooks and the double sided tape) and it turns out I would have spent $213 for just the paper items. It looked to me like the markup trend for US retailers is double the price on the Hobonichi website. I could argue that had all of the items I purchased were available at that US vendor I would have easily paid $360. Edit: I was reading some of the other comments. I was also unable to purchase from Hobonichi at launch. I had put everything I wanted in my favorites list and then populated my shopping cart from the list. But I couldn't get through checkout. Then the Hon I wanted sold out. I gave up at that point and went to bed. When I got up the next day I went back to the Hobonichi website to see if they'd announced a restock for the Hon and it said it was in stock. I was able to checkout with everything on my original list at 7:00 am EST.
