    Is Janice Bailey still operating her rental casitas off las Tunas just a bit north of Todos Santos town center? She's great and had a huge organic garden along side of her healing center, 2 story straw bale house with a baby grand piano. I believe it is about 1/8 mile from the ocean too. I hope she's doing well and I wish I could visit. ( Envying you walking into those stable desert biomes. ) Even those 3 ft tall cacti are over 90 yrs old & the really tall ones have whole living communities long established around them. Beautiful. Thx

      Yes the ocean in TS is rough this time of year. I live in San Jose del Cabo and swim year-round, although the water is cooler this time of year. This morning it's windy and not very beachy. I hope you catch some good weather when you have your car. Don't miss Playas Palmilla, Santa Maria and Chileno. Also the beach at Pedregal is beautiful but dangerous to swim. It's a gated community but just tell the guards you're going to the beach, which is public.

    If you enjoy birdwatching, you might want to go to San Blas, Nayarit. I stayed there for a month for extensive birding, decades ago. Lots of mosquitoes, so never go during rainy season. But in winter/dry season, it's wonderful there. I went during April, and it was Holy Week and Easter, an added bonus.

    I know we can live in mexico for 6 months every year, but what if we want to stay permanently? Can we go to another country or back to the US and then come back or do we have to wait 6 months?

    • @laura-bronner
      @laura-bronner  3 года назад +2

      You don't have to wait six months, you can simply come back in after a short trip away. However, if you plan to stay permanently you'd be better off getting residency which isn't very difficult to get. You can speak to your local Mexican consulate/embassy to see if you meet the requirements. That way you can open a bank account and pay bills that way, you can get a driver's license and buy a car, etc.

      It’s easy to make decisions when you know they’re temporary. We picked Baja because we’ve never been here for a long period of time before and I’ve always heard how beautiful it is. Waves are strong and there are undertows and riptides. Todos Santos is famous for world class surfing. Some beaches in this area are calmer than others and some people are stronger swimmers than others. On the east side of Baja (Sea of Cortez) it’s much calmer and the swimming is a lot easier.

    La Paz or Merida? Thinking of retiring there.

    • @laura-bronner
      @laura-bronner  3 года назад +1

      Depends what you like - merida is a great city, close(ish) to beaches, has lots of character and history and incredible food. Easy access to the riviera maya, an airport that is well connected to Mexico City and other parts of the country. The Yucatán is packed with adventure, but for about 4 months of the year it is an absolute inferno there. Hot and humid to an almost unbearable level (at least for me). La Paz perhaps doesn’t have as much character and history but the peninsula is packed with outdoor aventure activities - surfing, hiking, kiteboarding, biking, climbing, camping etc and the climate is much much drier than merida so even when it’s hot it’s not oppressive like it is in merida. Hope that helps a little bit!
