Wonderful, wonderful advises. We want to rent for a month, instead of staying at hotels. Perhaps in Cabo or Matzatlan????Jan/Feb. 2022. Never done it before. Trying to escape the cold..... Thanks again for taking the time to share. Great ideas.
I am just wondering if you ever feel the need to ask for proof that the person who you are renting the property from is the actual owner of the property? Not so much maybe if you are dealing with a legitimate property manager or realtor, but more so with a privately rented place? I just don't want to hand over first and last months rent and maybe a deposit to someone who does not even own the property only to find the legal owners showing up one night and throwing me out of their home.

Thank you so much for all the valuable information. This video was very helpful. I heard through other RUclipsrs that you have to make sure that you have an agreement with the landlord that they will pay for anything that needs to get fixed. Have you experienced anything in all of your rental history where you had to pay for things to get fixed out of your own pocket?
Can you speak about the bed quality at the places you've rented in Mexico? I've been traveling around Mexico for a little over a year. I've stayed at Airbnbs for periods of 1-3 weeks. With only two exceptions, the beds have been awful--too firm/hard, poor-quality mattresses. I can deal with that on a shorter-term stay, but eventually I want to spend 2-3 months in the same place and that won't work. When you shop for rentals via Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist and with property managers, how do you gauge bed quality?
Yes, most beds seem a bit harder in Mexico, but that's never bothered me. I do provide some Airbnb's in Phx. Az. and always provide a high quality mattress. Some variances given the culture in other countries, but you've got to LOVE MEXICO.
If you don't mind me saying I love your big soft curls, they are so beautiful and the little bit of blonde on the ends it is so feminine. I love this look on you. I did see a couple of your videos when you were in Queteratro, and I did not recognize you with the short blonde hair, not that my opinion matters, but as a woman, I love to switch my looks often so I truly understand that we love to have options no matter the situation.

I'm really curious, do Mexican landlords tend to hike up the rental price knowing you are a foreigner/expat who can't speak Spanish? Even with the last method you mentioned in the video by walking around and whatsapp/calling up those numbers? Or generally are they honest with one single price - regardless locals/expats ?
yes because americans arent as educated on other places and most are unaware that USD translates to way more money in Mexico and lasts way longer than you think if you dont stay in tourist areas that overcharge
Thanks so much! I don't speak Spanish YET...but I am trying. I almost rented a house for $600 in 5 de Deciembre neighborhood Puerto Vallarta- but landlord wouldn't tell me the address or his full name. He did send me his account # to send $300 deposit. When I told him I was looking at other places and would not continue with him until I got all the information, he said ok good luck. THEN the next day, he writes me back with the address! I'm having 2nd thoughts now...do you think he's a scammed or for real?
I’m having a little trouble with the two Spanish terms you use for the “guarantor “. It sounds like “fijador” or “rivale”? I think you are saying this is a person you need to vouch for you as a renter, as in providing a rental references as some ask for in the United States?
Nice channel! I'm thinking of doing four months down on the west coast next year (from British Columbia)- one month holiday, three working remotely. I'm settling on La Manzanilla, however do you recommend anywhere else? Someplace I can work but go for a swim on occasion, meet some nice folks and eat good food, but not a party town and nothing *too* touristy. I do love Puerto Vallarta but that is too big for what i'm looking for.
Hi, Great video! We are planning on permanently relocating to Mexico City and I was wondering what is the best way to find an unfurnished apartment in an old building. Most of the apartments I find are in newer buildings. Any tips would be helpful!
If you plan to look at older buildings in the city I highly recommend making sure that they have been checked for earthquake safety, especially in neighborhoods that sit in the old lake bed. The older buildings may be beautiful but the earthquakes pose a big threat to this style of building. As I mentioned In the video, the best way to find apartments longer term is to look around the neighborhoods you want to live and look for “for rent” signs. Alternatively you can get a realtor (there are tons in the Mexico City expat Facebook groups). They can be very helpful if you don’t have a fiador already. Hope that helps!
If you are only looking to rent short-term you will likely not need a fiador. You get a fiador just like you would if you needed a guarantor in your home country - you know someone. Sometimes property managers or realtors can help you find one, sometimes lawyers can be your fiador, but if you are only looking to rent for 5 months, it really wouldn't be worth the money. I have received a lot of emails and comments saying that in small towns around Mexico, hardly anyone asks for a fiador. It's not something to worry too much about until you've actually found a place you want to rent and spoken with the landlord.
I am going to CDMX in April for 3 nights at the Gran Hotel. In May I have a ticket to Spain, but still restricted for citizens of EEUU. I am thinking of the southern Mexico Pacific coast for a week. What beach side pueblos do you recommend? I like nice beach side restaurants and bars.
Buenos Dias. Morelia is where I want to move. Only need one bedroom apartment. Thank you for the info. I'm retired. I will come down find my rent. Come back sell all and head down! I do not trust Craig's list.
Out of all the places you have lived in Mexico, where have you liked the most? I am considering living in Mexico at least 4 months out of the year when I retire in 10-15 years, but I don't love places that are too full of expats/too fake/etc.
¿What's the best place to go to buy property in Loreto Mexico Baja California? I will put it in my daughter's name for she's a Mexican Citizen y I'm a Canadian Citizen. ¿How do I maneuver y navigate around that if you have any tips that be awesome? ¡Big Fan!

If renting for 6 months at a time do you still need to have a person who owns a property? Also because I have to leave after 180 days, I want to come back to my apartment. Do you think that it is safe to prepay rent for 6 months at a time?

It's not something to worry too much about until you've actually found a place you want to rent and spoken with the landlord.
Interesting information, very helpful 👍
I am going to CDMX in April for 3 nights at the Gran Hotel. In May I have a ticket to Spain, but still restricted for citizens of EEUU. I am thinking of the southern Mexico Pacific coast for a week. What beach side pueblos do you recommend? I like nice beach side restaurants and bars.
Thank you 🙏
Much appreciate it.

Great information! Thank you 👍🏾
Good presentation, thank you!
Out of all the places you have lived in Mexico, where have you liked the most? I am considering living in Mexico at least 4 months out of the year when I retire in 10-15 years, but I don't love places that are too full of expats/too fake/etc.
Extremely helpful 👍🏼
First time seen your video question what do you do for living? Work ?
¿What's the best place to go to buy property in Loreto Mexico Baja California? I will put it in my daughter's name for she's a Mexican Citizen y I'm a Canadian Citizen. ¿How do I maneuver y navigate around that if you have any tips that be awesome?

Hello what are your thoughts on Malawian? Looking for something long term also any reason why you are only doing like month to month and different places? Is this a 180 day visa situation?
You better move there for a year. We found it Way to expensive for us. We're going to check out the main land.
Thanks Laura

Hi & thanks for your video! Q about WhatsApp... do you have to have a Mexican phone plan or can I use my US phone to use the app?
The best thing about whatsapp is that you can use any phone number from around the world and message people anywhere in the world for free!
Anyone know why she said contact the local landlords through Whats app. Is that something all the locals use? why not just call them at the number?
If renting for 6 months at a time do you still need to have a person who owns a property? Also because I have to leave after 180 days, I want to come back to my apartment. Do you think that it is safe to prepay rent for 6 months at a time?
What colonia did you live in when you rented in Mazatlán?
Centro 😊
Can I find a clean place for $200 /$300? Usd a month??
I was going to fly to Cancun and get a place for a couple days. What do you recommend defined places locally? Is there an app or do you simply ask ex-pats?
I really like showing the computer searches as an older person I’m not versed in that well😊
Thank you from Canada
I’m not finding any of her videos covering Cancun. That’s where I need to go for a month or less.
I am looking to move to Merida. I am a native Spanish speaker. I have been to many websites used by realtors. Have you been in Merida? If so what areas do you recommend?
I have been to Merida but only on vacations. I usually stay in the centro but I have a friend who lives there and loves living just north of the city. She recently wrote a book which is on Amazon and called Moving to Merida. You can also contact her on Facebook, her page is called Mexico Cassie - she’s a great resource for moving to Merida 👍
These guys are in Merida and did an equally good video about this subject. ruclips.net/video/aT9VZcApA3Q/видео.html
Evader there are a ton of videos on rentals in Merida.
Gracias
Do you have any suggestions for Oaxaca City ?
So helpful!

Have you been to both? They're so close to each other, maybe consider renting in one for a month and then the other for a month and seeing which you prefer :)
