I think one of the main issues with the Rocket Launcher is that it actively does the opposite of healing, unless you use the cannonball. Of course he mentions that right at the end of the video 😫
Firestarter is genuinely my most used Rocket Launcher and I think it gets so little love for how much of a great passive damage dealer it is. Making enemies that aren't able to be hurt by explosives into fodder for it and creating what is essentially another trap all over an arena for enemies that will kill almost all of the weaker ones and leave the bigger ones bleeding over time. All the while you are still just pumping out shots from other weapons. It also eliminates the issue of the Rocket Launcher being a precision weapon because it just turns into explosives when making contact with ANY oil, becoming a secondary P. Boost basically yes i yapped i love the firestarter
I find myself using conductor strats rn which tend to clear out crowds enough to manage. I wonder if I could efficiently set up a firestarter-conductor trap to clear crowds faster
Tbh it feels like the rocket launcher is only good for niche situations, like a lot of stronger fodder enemies resist it (Streetcleaners, Soldiers, Maurice) and a lot of stronger enemies just aren't fazed by it and thus you have to deal with the rockets just kinda being weak (with the exception of the insurrectionist). It feels best in combat for wiping out fodder, instakilling a few enemies (but only one at a time), and setting up boss fights, all things done better by more reliable tools. I feel like a damage or firing speed buff would go a long way for it, especially with the Firestarter.
you just kinda use it as a burst damage/finishing option esp if you dont have a shotgun and the main thing with rocket launchers is the fact that you can rocket ride, rocket trap for like a billion damage, srs parry and other things
sometimes with firestarter i like to quick tap alt fire right before firing the rocket to instakill soldiers (also lets rocket explode when hitting the floor)
Firestarters good as oil reduces friction so you can dash jump (and shoot a rocket below you for more distance) then shoot oil where you land and slide jump, the reduced friction allows you keep some momentum and go much further, this can repeated aswell
The tech of blowing yourself up with the rocket is usually used as a makeshift "this will hurt" of Sisyphus because the red explosion also happens when you're in the air I've only seen it used on one singular room on ship of fools but i'm pretty sure is usable in a lot more rooms in the game And firestarter yeah i only see people use it for a couple movements in speedruning because the oil does boost you with short space
I feel like the rocket launcher's most useful application is movement. Sure it can be used in combat, but it's more effective in helping you get from place to place.
you can create free red explosions from fodder by whiplashing like a stray and shooting it while its still whiplashed, makes it 10x easier to do so instead of setting up one by shooting the ground then hitting with another follow up.
Rocket in general: Whiplash (including FUP) or slam/airshot combo. Freezeframe: Rocket riding, rocket traps, magnet/rocket combo. S.R.S. Cannon: Dunking. Rarely railcannonball. Firestarter: Flame traps (especially in cybergrind), yet another way to instakill Maurice. Dash jumps with less cost. As for the video itself, I feel like you could compress what you are trying to say into 5 minutes. Most of the video is a filler filled with pauses, getting distracted and actually speaking against the rocket launcher.
f up is great for certain challenges. the leviathan challenge requires you to reach the surface un ten seconds, but if you just f up right as you exit the elevator room, you can get to the boss without issue.
Frozen rocket pulls are EXTREMELY underrated, like sure it does damage to you but it can also practically instakill like 30 filth if they spawn either where you're standing, or to your left or right
Fire starter is a little underrated, you can use it to cover enemy spawn locations and stuff. Also freezeframe can freeze a rocket in the middle of a small room and get shot to nuke it
Stacking rockets for concentrated damage is what i first used em for, and now Im using the cannonball to harass Cerberi. I'd be happy to learn more rocket tech
The firestarter is my most used rocket launcher by far. My favorite ways to use it are setting large fields of fire to deal chip damage to as many enemies as possible (good passive style generation) and to farm style off of Maurice by covering him in oil and shotgun swap pro-boosting him to death. Another way to kill Maurice with the firestarter is to oil him and then parry his beam attack, since he will now take damage from the explosion.
Rocket launchers feel more like utility weapon (like marksman) rather than main dmg dealer, one helps u fly, one helps u go fast, srs is a one time huge dmg dealer
i feel like the main use of the firestarter is as a consistent source of dps on big, harder to hit enemies i always find myself using it against hideous masses and the tram minotaur fight
Firestarter is a good excuse to use nailguns, since you have more crowd control options. Particularly the overheat Nailgun, which i had fun with and reached wave 39 in Brutal cybergrind. I don't like the SRS cannon. I prefer pump charge, and sawed on shotguns(hold alt fire with sawed on, shoot the saw by pressing m1 to also add the shotgun pellets. Add a KB punch to instakill virtues) Freezeframe is awesome.
Rockets are good for mannequins since when they’re on the wall/ceiling the rockets cause red explosions. I also use them for drones (I play in standard, drones will dodge the rockets better in harder difficulties, though I’ve been told whiplash attached to a rocket moves the rocket faster so that might help). Other than those cases the only other thing I really use is srs cannon for an occasional cannonboost for extra damage. Used to use firestarter before it was nerfed
I feel like the firestarter doesn't get much love for its abilities. It lets explosions affect a ton of normally immune to said explosions-enemies and is nice chip damage for when my weapons are on cooldown. The ability to clean out lower enemies from taking eco from weapons like the alt-nailgun. Insurrectionist. Essentially it fits the position of being quick swap because its the only dot type weapon which adds to the weapon's main attack which is lackluster, comparatively like other weapons, cough cough, slab sharpshooter. Now if youre asking me for changes to make to it, I would ask for something like faster flying rockets, increased oil capacity, longer lasting fire, and honestly removing the sliding-momentum effect because it just seems like a funny but ineffective thing to add like the dual-wield power up sharpshooter helicopter. Or changing the oil momentum to act like skating on ice.
Speaking as a (shamefully) filthy casual, I guess one other issue with the rocket launcher is that shotgun projectile boosts are a bit more idiotproof. After all, by the time one gets the rocket launcher, there's _plenty_ of time for one to stumble upon and learn shotgun projectile boosts - which are a pretty nice easily-available means of firing an explosive projectile pretty quickly. And, unlike the rocket launcher, projectile boosts don't need a direct hit to deal damage. Yes, the skill ceiling for projectile boosts are a lot lower - but so is the skill floor (you just need to quickly hit the melee button rather than aim a direct hit). Of course, I still try to use the rocket launcher instead - but muscle memory is a pain to get rid of.
i forget to use the rocket launcher sometimes, i only use the srs. cannon and the freeze frame, i don't use the oil cannon cuz it really isn't that good right now. ( i use the srs. cannon to kill hideous masses and the freeze frame to prepare for a boss or just rocket ride)
The trick with red rocket launcher I saw from 1 youtuber at 04:38 a.m: You shoot oil for a fraction of second at enemy and immediately shoot the rocket. It instakills Maurices and deals good damage
I think the main "issue" with rocket launchers is that using them effectively is quite hard, and since ultrakill doesn't really force you to use them, most people just write them off Even I used to be like that, only recently I started using them for movement and damage
2:20 i find myself most often using it in the cybergrind either to snipe a sisyphean insurrectionist or grpple a radient soldier to blow them up (also SRS cannon is one of the strongest weapons in the game fight me)
IMO Green Rocket Launcher is My personal favorite because the canon ball does HUGE dmg when You land the first hit then You parry it. It can easily instakill most enemies in the Game of course It's Not that easy to do
Rocket launcher is very situational weapon, blue one as you said for rocket ride, but for some bosses like minotaur does really good damage in start Green just for Morris and Cerberus, one shot ball combo Oil one... Dont like it, its funny to slide fuster, but in other ways not worth it, fire damage is very low
I unironically use the Firestarter and this video makes me very happy. I guess my loadout is kinda based around one thing: the FUNNY. Jackhammer, BALL, esc. ... Also the shotgun is shit
It's sad that Rocket Launchers are only really used for rocket riding and Cerb instakilling since they have so many uses. Hakita in his new 0-4 video demonstrates it pretty well imo Also the Firestarter nerf sucked I loved exploding Gabriel to oblivion :(
The firestarter is awesome and I can get behind freezeframe for movement but I suck too badly for that and even with cannonboost the style and damage from SRS is abysmal. as a damage tool it is completely useless as cooldowns are usualy fast enough to always use something actually good. It is the last weapon cactegory you get so making it so terrible is kinda weird ngl. All other burst damage tools(railcannon, alt shotgun + whiplash, jumpstart alternate var., the OG sawblade + nailgun combo, and EVEN THE SLAB PIERCER CAHRGE ATTACK are IMO superior).
"They don’t do that much damage"
Cerberus when I hit him with the SRS cannon:
"They do not so many damage"
*P-ranks P-2 using only cannons*
Cerberus when i dunk him with the srs cannon:
(dunk = basically like projectile boost but instead of bullets u hit the srs cannonball)
srs cannon my beloved
mannequins when i vaporize an entire room full of them with the firestarter:
I think one of the main issues with the Rocket Launcher is that it actively does the opposite of healing, unless you use the cannonball.
