I didn’t preorder it all because I had a feeling something bad would happen. It’s modern gaming, it’s battlefront, and it’s aspyr studios. That’s a recipe for disaster

When the 501st was finally rotated out of early development, Lucasfilm Games and Aspyr made a note of seeing us off personally; calling us the best cash grab they'd ever seen. It's a good thing we're just pixels on a screen... because none of us could bear to look the playerbase in the eye.

Maybe actual resources are more at play here? Maybe the objectively verifiable incentives of the system is more relevant to the systemic problems? It’s Asspyr. The same corpo that announced free restored content dlc for KotOR 2 would be there at launch…and then that it would be there in a few months…and then that it would not be coming at all. Also, they somehow did so bad with a demo for their remake of KotOR they were immediately sacked and the project has been indefinitely suspended.

So apparently the large filesize is because textures have been upscaled to 4k and haven't been compressed.
The fact they took a finished complete game and unfinished it is impressive enough. Regardless of the fact there was 0 care or improvements made other than hero assault on all maps.
Is it really too much to ask for for a rerelease of a 20 year old game with working multiplayer and modern netcoding. That should have been the bare minimum and would have satisfied most people

Battlefront 1 in this game on ultrawide resolutions is literally just 16:9 but the top and bottom are cropped off
According to a comment that I saw on another video discussing this situation, the reason that the game takes up so much space now is because the textures were ai-upscaled to 8K resolution without being compressed at all (commenter claimed that they were a modder and had decompiled the files to look into them). The cutscenes were likely scaled to a similar resolutions as well.
Thought without the pressure of having to make videos a certain length to please the algorithm gods, I could use smaller topics to increase the actual amount of videos I can get done to a point where I don't feel like I'm not posting enough. This is a bit of a test with a short discussion regarding Battlefront's classic collection and the malarkey surrounding that.
The problem with peer to peer games is that whilst it’s not so terrible if say there were less than ten or five players where if a player leaves not so much of a problem, a bigger problem if the host leaves either due to a game crash or bug or poor internet speed or simply went AFK either for too long resulting in the game automatically kicking him from the game or has gone off to do something else and again not much of a major issue if it’s 1v1 or something like helldivers for example or even things like dark tide, however it is a massive issues when you’re dealing with a massive server game like BF2 with 63 players all relying on that one player not to have a crash or go AFK, because it’s not just five guys that get booted this time but over sixty other players as well loose everything along with the games terrible mechanics and hits it’s just an absolute disaster

I bought this for split screen and single player just like the good ole days. I haven’t had a single issue other than the camera sensitivity
My sensitivity for BF2 was so freaking slow I thought there was no way to fix it. Luckily it's in controller settings 😭
Please tell me how to fix it because the camera is so slow that it’s unplayable for me. It takes a good 2 seconds just to turn around even with sensitivity settings set at max and aim assist/sticky redicule turned off. What did you do to fix it?

Honestly the biggest thing I hate is that they fucked up the original loading screen for Battlefront 1. They only have 2 sounds instead of all 3.
It wasn't just like the simulation....
The ps5 version has the reactive triggers permanently on, which makes using a handful of weapons incredibly frustrating.
The gaming industry desperately needs some form of regulation to stop this sort of blatant swindling.
Helldivers 1 had a relatively small, by mainstream standards, audience so I understand why that games devs built the sequel around those expectations and it being catapulted overnight on release to Fortnite levels of players was not something they anticipated or prepared for, so the server issues are a reasonable problem to have.
Battlefront Collection has no such excuse, BF2 was one of the most popular games of the 2000s and has remained a large and steady fanbase ever since, so why would you only have *three* servers on release for a game you know is going to have a minimum player count in the thousands?
That’s indefensibly stupid. 😂
(Not even counting the downright strange bugs like the ending cutscenes on campaign missions not playing, what is up with that?)
I think they intended for much more and an error of some description genuinely did hit at the least appropriate time, but the server issues appear to only be one issue in a sea of a fair few that stand between players and fun

It’s probably more the fault of the engine or background motions going on in battlefront from a coding perspective.
If a company pulls off a great port, and then inexplicably fumble the next, especially in a different franchise, I’m more inclined to blame the 2 decade old game, more so than the studio trying to fix all the holes in a 3 decade old engine with duct tape.
I’m not trying to say that releasing the game in its current state is excusable in the slightest, but I can understand where the issues are stemming from.
And if I were them, I’m probably popping bricks over the fact a full engine overhaul is the only way to fix most of these issues.

Here’s the thing: Aspyr has always been erratic. They’ve got maybe a 60/40 split on decent ports.
Plus, Battlefront 2 has been ported at least half a dozen times.
@@warlordofbritannia IIRC those ports are what’s being ported over, BF 1&2 on the Xbox One+ use an emulator to run the game.
So it’s even more than a port, it’s a port of a port, from original hardware to modern day. It’s a pretty big undertaking.
As a collective of gamers, we need to learn how to stop Pre-Ordering games like there's going to be a shortage. And we need to learn to stop paying for games before doing ample research.
The gaming industry is shameless cash-grabs any more. The type of shit to make you sell all your belongings to go help starving people in Africa, because the entertainment industry is pure DOG SH!T

I noticed the missing cutscenes as well! Was playing the BF2 campaign and was confused as to why there wasnt a cutscene after the corascaunt segment
I've gotten some good multiplayer rounds on Xbox Series X/S, but the lobbies have lag often and alot of the time no one will be able to spawn with the spawn timer stuck on 1. it happens every 4 matches or so. Hit detection seems to have been slightly fixed since wednesday when i first moved to New Zealand to try it
The absolute failure of this, and the fact it was possible to fail this poorly, is a shining example of the total farce of the modern gaming industry. It's no wonder i haven't bought a game close to release for 4 years.
I'm having an issue with splitscreen on the Switch version: it just says "Please Insert Controller" for player 2, even when I have two controllers paired to the console. Does anyone know why this is? Do both players need to have a Nintendo Online account even for offlline splitscreen play? It's breaking my heart since the whole reason I bought this game was to introduce my friends to classic Battlefront.
Played battlefront 2 online for hours yesterday on series X. Very few problems honestly, only one match was bugged out completely

I have the Xbox version of this SW Battlefront Classic Collection (as well as the two originals on my Xbox Series X via backwards compatibility)....we all know that the online multiplayer is all messed up & about the server issues (across all platforms & steam) but the single player campaigns, galactic conquests and instant action (at least on Xbox I've noticed with my collection) do have some minor issues too (thankfully none of them are game breaking bugs or make the games unplayable) but for me they are noticable (and/or annoying enough)....from sounds cues being off or missing, music being a little off or missing, some sound effects not sounding right or missing, weird sound level issues, some graphics being a bit off or looking questionable (Kit Fisto lightsaber really looks messed up here in this collection and on the Hoth level, I've noticed, particularly some snow banks & the ditches look really bizarre now, in my opinion - just two examples), some minor frame rate drops/slow downs, entire cutscenes/after-cutscenes missing that were in the original releases (mostly with Battlefront II), difficulty scoping/snipering (wasn't an issue with the originals), difficulty with various weapons, (wasn't a problem in the originals), Jedi & Sith characters being difficult to hit with any other troop character or blaster weapon other than by another Jedi or Sith (something that wasn't in the original game), Asajj Ventress force star blade projectiles being mostly underpowered (compared to the original Battlefront II), the in game AI being a lot more aggressive and/or more dumber (depending on one's perspective) than in the originals, having to re-input button codes after every mission (whereas you only had to enter them once in the original games and would last for the entire game until you turned them off) to controller button presses/registering issues and so forth (I died more times because the game failed to recognize that I pushed a button or it took a few moments to register that I had pressed a button) and if course the inverted controller options being removed prior to launch (a real WTF?)...
Again these issues don't make the game entirely unplayable but the two previous releases of the 2004 & 2005 games (which were enhanced with some graphical upgrades & with all the DLCs/add ons for Xbox play store both in 2018) are still far superior in terms of playability and very little issues. How could a recent release like this be so much worse, IMO, than the ones updated & re-released 6 years ago in 2018? Oy-vay 🤦

An anonymous CA dev said it best: the only reaction that will have affect is apathy. Stop feeding these companies attention or money. This is how we got to a point where games that are broken at launch became the norm.
So, funny thing- It looks like this game is being buried to some extent. I went to Steam during the video because I curious and found out that it's not anywhere on the new release page (which is currently filled with obscure indies and re-releases of old games that are less relevant that Battlefront) despite releasing yesterday. It's not on the "Star Wars franchise" page or the Star Wars Collection bundle (the original releases of these games are in both though). I had to specifically search for "Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection" to find it. I don't know what it means or why anyone cares. I just thought it was interesting.
This will become a case study and will be taught in the industry on “How not to develop a game”
In all honesty, I haven't run into many issues that people have been detailing during the release (I'm on PS4 currently). I played a match of Battlefront 1 with a friend who lives far on the west coast of the US and other people with some settings changed around and had a blast. We only had very few instances of the game attempting to lag out, but other than that I haven't had any problems. Only game that seems a little borked is Battlefront 2 but I assume that could be due to the massive amounts of people attempting to play it online all at once (Starfighter Assault had a weird lag for me where it would run at 30fps and stutter a bit. Waiting on that to be fixed).
Am I glad I bought this game? My honest answer? Yes. I never did play the games on PS2 or Xbox, so this is the closest I can get to the original console experience. I played BF2 '05 on Steam and its good and all, but I had to mod it a bit to fix a few issues (menu screen size being locked to 1600x540 causing all other open apps to shrink to the left corner of your monitor every time and the lack of the bonus content like Jabba's Palace or the extra Rhen Var maps and the Hero Assault stuff with Kit Fisto and Ventress.)
Same here. I don't have ps plus so I can't play online anyways rn. Me and my uncle played spilt screen galactic conquest and the campaigns for over 10 hours straight. Only had one crash that entire time and it was some of the most fun I've had on a game on release night since re4 remake. I had my expectations in check especially after they re released republic commando and I'm just really happy I have three of my favorite star wars games again easily accessible on my ps4. Seems to me it's just another hate bandwagon.
I think the issue is that the reason the game came out all buggy is because that the developer had a timetable to release this game because of the publisher they figured that whatever bugs or issues can be fixed with patched updates if they take their time, I’m making sure that the game is completely workable that cost a lot of money considering that it is not on sale I’m probably gonna take a guest here in the next 3 to 4 months will be looking brand new

I personally believe this release was a scam. People that pre ordered wouldn't know it was a sh*t show until the company already had their money.
I just hope they update it accordingly. In the mean time im having fun in private servers which arent having connection and lag issues. I think the biggest problem is no aim assist on official servers. On console its incredibly hard to aim without it plus with the lag right now its even harder.
The dodgy controls complaint is funny to me because the controls on PS5 are identical to how they were on PS2. Thats just how the game was originally. And you can remap most of the controls anyway. I get there are a lot of issues but that one in particular seems like a reach
The ps2 controller was entirely different to the ps5 as well, making for a different experience. The least they could do is update the controls a bit.
I only tried just a bit of online multiplayer and was wondering where everyone was. I'm not a huge multiplayer person so I can't complain. But there are 2 issues I have with BF2. First one was on the Yavin 4 map (not the rainy map) the one command post that is in the middle right side these staircases are missing. Second is how much harder the AI is when I was trying to complete the mission with Hoth. I kept failing at the very last part of the Hoth mission where you have to protect the bomb for a minute. I never had this problem before with the original. The AI are more aggressive, even on normal mode. I had to have my sister help me because I was getting upset 😭
I played 2 matches before QUICK MATCH was asking me for a password. Sessions would barely fill the list when you search for one. Players being pushed all around, enemies and allies alike, because being using force push. Firsf impressions are not good
On the plus side, I had a blast on launch day playing EA Star Wars Battlefront II with full lobbies. I think we were all letting out our frustrations and it was fun.
they've really dropped the ball on a game series that was peak childhood for me - updates will have to be worthwhile as like you pointed out, the pricepoint its currently at, for a mess of release that it currently is, doesn't sit well with me. Guess i'll go back to the dark forces remaster that came out last month for my dose of star wars action for now
I bought it for the single player and the controls were too clunky. It felt impossible to hit anything and the old one doesn't have the same problem. The sensitivity in the menus were also insanely low without a way to change it

You need left stick or right (whatever you prrfer) as throttle/pitch.
And you need the other stick control as pitch/roll.
It'll feel odd at first, but will work perfectly with everything intact... I will give this message to others that doesn't like the inverted feel, or the ones who want the invert..

Graphics are only a little better than in the original pc version, but the file size more than triples.
I feel like I’m one of the few people who haven’t had any issues online. Still it’s a 20 year old game and you somehow messed that up with the technology we have now, the only thing that’s kinda bugging me is the hero/villain faces idk if they always looked that bad and I can’t remember or they genuinely messed them up

Game crashed when I attempted to search for multiplayer games. Whatever, I thought. I’ll just do single player. Sensitivity settings don’t work for me. At the highest setting, it still takes like 2 seconds to do a 180. Flying anything is so awkward because of the locked inverted controls. Game is quite unplayable for me on Xbox.

If Aspyr makes it I avoid it. Last & only games I've purchased from them was the Star Wars collection on PS4 with Bounty Hunter, SNES SW & Jedi Starfighter & the only games I've completed was Starfighter..

Battlefront 1 has 200 ticket games and last a good while. It's bf2 that has some fucking short matches. They did fuck up launch especially having 3 servers at launch.

I called this the second I saw the announcement and decided to wait till it launched rather than pre order. Seems I made the right call.
To be honest, anyone who bought this 'remaster' deserves to be disappointed. The original games are both available on Steam for a lower price and for literally the same content and visuals. This was nothing but a cash grab from the beginning.
