You saved me a ton a grief, and money. I had watched another video from This Old House and it just didn't include the detail that Fix It All did. I was able to install the fan and got my box in place but struggled with the wiring. Even though yours still was a little quick, with my existing knowledge I was able to figure it out on my own and now we have an exhaust fan with a light and the separate bathroom light. It looks great and gives our bath much more light and the moisture is exhausted out. Anyway you have an avid follower now, thank you so much for your video and help.

You should swap the outlet for a gfci outlet but if you know the outlet is gfci protected you should be able to leave it on a regular outlet

Fast but perfect. I'm no electrician but I believe I could do this if I ran a 3 wire with a ground rather than running two 2 wire with ground, correct? I think I would just have to tie the whites at the fan/light fixture and then tie it to the white coming from the breaker....? Thanks for the video.
If you have standard cable with three wire inside - copper/ground, white and black, you need tie all copper together and SEPARATE all white together.
Don't tie copper and white.

There two separate black wire from two lamp. Before both was on one switch screw. Now each black on individual switch. For people who know simple electric staff no problem to understand. For others people better ask to do it to pro-electric guys.

Could you use a switch replacement with two buttons instead of switching the box ?
Yes you can. But two box was done to use timer for fan in future.
I thought it was an entertaining video. Only suggestion is to pigtail the hot lead next time so power is running through the switches. Take the power and pigtail two leads (one for each switch). Some simplified diagrams would be nice if you wanted to keep the speed and not do commentary. I liked it though. :)

For electrical code you're plastic box needs to have the plastic tabs... You would be correct if you were installing a one gang outlet.

Yes. That's not a big deal. The main owner point was separate vanity light from the fan.
@@FixitAll Hahaha never mind I understand. As I noticed your recessed lamp is very close to the fan - so you might consider separating this circuit with either two pull-cord switches, or a remote lighting controller. What do you think?
