thnks for this no crap, talk business video....m installing another light in one of my rooms with a separate switch and this is exactly what i m looking for.....much appreciate it man hi5!! ...btw m in Canada as well...
little bit confuse, earlier it should be two cables incoming(line) and outgoing(load) and later with two switch it should be 3 cables? but I see earlier 1 and later 2?
Hi Nic, I have a light switch outside a closet that turns the light on/off inside the closet. The power source comes from the light fixture inside the closet to the switch outside the closet. The white wire at the switch is the hot. I want to add an independent light with switch outside the closet using the power from the closet light switch and not the light box. Can you do that in Canada?
Wtf?! That current finder you have at the beginning, I’ve never even heard that something like that existed.. that doohickey is gonna make my life sooooooo much easier. Best part is it’s only 7am and I’ve already gotten all my learning in for the day, today is an amazing day :)
Thanks for the video. I’m looking for adding additional 2 switches instead of one. Am I able to just add 3 black wires? Or do you have a video for 3 switches?
Those circuit breaker finders are great but yeah they can be kind of vague and a pain. I usually take the front of the panel off so I can bring the tester up close to the hot leads coming off each breaker and more clearly see which one is making it light up/beep. Just have to be careful when working on an open and hot panel, but that goes without saying!
This is great. Question. Is this the same way if I need to wire ceiling pot lights and ceiling fan to two separate switches? I want to be able to dim the pot lights with one switch and the other switch would just turn the ceiling fan power on/off
can these instructions be followed for installing an interior ceiling fan? in other words, we currently have one existing switch to an outlet. would like to leave that as is and add a second switch to new ceiling fan in the same room. thanks
Yes I only use them if I absolutely have to like if it’s a box cut into a wall that I just cannot expand to a double gang or triple gang but for something like this where it’s easy to do I prefer just normal switches as people don’t really like the double switches and I think they look a little worse but they can be good for some situations
I don’t have that probe but when I replaced my doorbell button for a smart doorbell I figured out that the doorbell circuit transformer was in the garage so when I switch that circuit off the light for the button is off
Was that a Federal Pacific breaker panel on the left? Those are dangerous panels especially the Stab-Lok. They fail to trip and burn the wire up. The failure is really high like 1 in 3 or 4 breakers will fail to trip. That would be a good video: panel replacement. I know you have the ability and know how to do it safely and professionally.
Trust me I know it's there and that it's a problem the thing is with replacing it is the cost of having to switch everything out to arc fault if it was moved over to the main panel
Yo bro in the whole world its righty tighty , you need to put the wires in the screw so whenbyou tighten the wire screw it dont push the wire out , thats to prevent a fire 🔥
Double switches are great for a situation where you can't add another box but that's about it they suck in every other way specifically in this case not being able to install a smart switch for outside lighting
I did not see a smart switch being mentioned in the video. They looked liked the old dumb switches to me. Why is the color of the switch plate and switches different? Different brands.
Ohhhh that explains everything….you are Canadian that is why you are so young and know how to handle electricity….American kids don’t know $hit….and they don’t care to know $hit….
This kid has been in the electrical business for 45 years.
😂

Amazing instructions! Saved my day with my kitchen work!
Best video from all what I saw , followed exactly the steps worked out perfectly
Great work!
Thanks a lot!
It was very helpful!
If you cut on both sides maybe an inch from the end, you can grab the ends of the sheathing and peel it open. No need to risk nicking the wire
Faster to plug a desk light in and flip breakers till it's off 😂🤣
Wow u did a great job, u r very educated for ur age. Keep up the good work and thank u for teaching me.
Hello great video!! Stay safe and have fun!! ...

Pre-twisting is great but damn, that’s more than a pre-twist you did right there, that was the entire twist.
What if I don’t have the red wire on my existing switch? Is it still possible?
Just a question.. is this up to code in usa? Illinois to be exact

A bit confused as if these 2 switches are powering 2 lights but shouldn't there be 3 cables? 1 power and 2 out to the lights
The shed videos should have a playlist called the sheds lol
Thank you, though. I learned what I need...
11:32 Idk why my house has full of backstabbing connections. Keep up the great work 👍!
Because it’s easy to do and faster=more money
If you hit the test button on the circuit finder plug wouldn’t it trip the gfci or breaker? I’m just curious if it would or not.
It will test a GFCI so it would trip a GFCI receptacle but it won’t trip a normal breaker only if it’s a GFCI breaker
Cool
Thanks for the video. I’m looking for adding additional 2 switches instead of one. Am I able to just add 3 black wires? Or do you have a video for 3 switches?
Yes it would be the same thing just three wires on the line side of the switch
The idea is to do it when you have the drywall in place….but I truly believe this young guy knows how to handle it….

I usually turn off the entire main system just to be safe. LOL!

Yea same idea

Same concept yes
Could I do this to add a stitch for a ceiling fan in a living room?. Thanks.
Yeah it’s the same concept light or fan I’m assuming it’s a finished space though so you would have to fish wire through the ceiling and the wall
good
Surely your circuit breakers are marked? And you can find them by the ampage rating?
No
Have you heard of combination switch? Basically it is a switch that can control two lights and will fit in one electrical box. Saves you some trouble.
Yes I only use them if I absolutely have to like if it’s a box cut into a wall that I just cannot expand to a double gang or triple gang but for something like this where it’s easy to do I prefer just normal switches as people don’t really like the double switches and I think they look a little worse but they can be good for some situations
Don't ever take anyone's word except your own when someone tells you.. "The power is off bro.. trust me."
I don’t have that probe but when I replaced my doorbell button for a smart doorbell I figured out that the doorbell circuit transformer was in the garage so when I switch that circuit off the light for the button is off
You know what always works very quickly? Turning off the entire main system with one simple click. 🤣

I have found that some of those testers you have to turn them a different angle
Yeah they can be strange to get them to work
Rip for those that are required to have EMT and Metal Box

One switch works other doesn’t. I have spend all day today to figure this out. No luck yet.
why does mine have two 2 wires (no red)
Thanks

Yes the wire loop should be in the same direction that the screw tightens up
I have 2 red wires what do I do
You should add some more stuff to the look out
I actually have a video coming out soon that will be about adding something to the tower
Thanks kid you just my job a lil easier
Usually I destroy dollar store quality items hehe
From what I see from your comment you would like to destroy everything

Why not just use a double switch instead of the box? A lot cheaper and simpler.

@@TexasEngineer because it's ivory switches and white switch plate
@@nics-systems-electric Is that intentional? I have never seen that mixed. Not all ivory matches and it is getting impossible to match the old work.
which one is hot ?
Black or red
