Thanks so much for watching Day 1, especially to those of you who joined me for the live premiere. Just out of curiosity, which other strumming patterns have you tried for songs in the 4/4 time signature? - Kevin
Other than doing a mute strum on beat 2 or 3..I can't think of any other strum pattern...
I used a lot the island strum, then island strum with chuck on the second down strum, but still I need to learn how to decide which strum to use in each songs until i found your video. I searched in youtube tutorial to learn a new song, otherwise i wont be able to strum, to make a nice melody. I will try to apply what you sugessted on your video. Thanks a lot, Kevin.
Down Down Up Up Down Up..is the one i use mostly. But Kevin, I need your help. I want to be able to play the song by Robbie Williams, Better Man. Could you plz help me to choose the strumming pattern for this song? So far I practiced the song which is available on youtube tutorial, but when I want to play other songs which is not in youtube tutorial..I got lost :( withthe strumming pattern. For. Example on the song I mentioned to you. Please help me Kevin.I would appreciate your help. I found the chord of Better man with 4/4 signature.
@@SuperHotnessJom hmmmm I think you are more advanced than me . Chuck I learned on standby me song, which is available on RUclips tutorial. But thanks for your advice though.
Finally I understand strumming far better. Thank you so much!!
Thank you, I'm so encouraged. I've been learning Uke for 18 months now, Developed nice calluses on my fingers and at times felt lost. Which strum to use was difficult .Found your lessons in October, I am moving forward with confidence . A light bulb went off this week, after practicing ALL your lesson I FEEL I'M FINALLY GETTING IT!!! I have even mastered some of the barre chords. You are a great instructor, I did take lessons for 8 months and quit because I was learning more from YOU. Congrats on that bundle of joy!
OMG yes! It is SO frustrating that all the beginner books basically ignore strumming. You are a hero.
I just discovered Kevin's channel this week. My sister and I just started playing the uke. My sister has never played an instrument in her life. I play guitar. My sister already sounds amazing. I love you teaching style. I've had a lot of teachers through the years, but Kevin - you have a gift. Thank you so much. Terry Gladstone
Thanks Kevin ..my first time tunning in this channel... will be getting a ukulele soon.. Thanks again ❤❤❤
Very helpful. Thanks Kevin
Awesome! Thanks for the strumming lesson. I’m only 6 months into playing. And loving it. Will look you up often and keep playing everyday. Loved your style! JK in VT
Thanks for taking your time to teach us new things. ❤
This lesson was EXACTLY what I needed! Thank you so much for offering us both your time and knowledge…it’s so appreciated❤
Thank you for this video! I was literally strumming (without the ukulele) along while out walking around the neighborhood! Exactly the help I need as a new player!
Never have to apologize for Beatle songs!
Ist time I`ve been here , Brilliant....your teaching comes across so easy. I`ll be back. Respect from the UK.
A very informative video. I struggle with what strumming pattern to use for songs that don’t tell you what pattern to use. I tend to use the island strum a lot for 4/4. Great explanation on counting too. Your hand is always sub dividing. Now, I understand how to count two arrows up in a row. Easy, don’t know why I never looked at it that way. Wait, I’m a beginner! I guess I’m allowed beginner brain. Thanks again, very helpful.
And, congratulations on the newest addition to your family!!
❤❤Thanks Kevin for your patience😊and your singing is awesome❤❤
Love it Thank you so much I'm really a newbee , and have trouble with timing and strumming.. Imust say this has helped me more than any other I have tried. !!!
Excellent tutorial many thanks
Thank you for laying this out for us! I usually have trouble figuring out which pattern to use. This is super helpful! You are a great teacher!
Thanks Kevin I enjoy your method of teaching always clear. As a senior sometimes it seems to take awhile for something to sink in, but with your tutorials i usually get my ahha moment while watching. Cheers and congrats on the new baby.
Great ... You are a Good Teacher ....
Christmas Greetings From England - New to the uke, been playing for approximately 5 weeks, I have a Uma Moon Tenor
This has made my strumming so much better, it seems to sound like it makes sense now. Thank you.
Thanks for this tutorial. Strumming is my biggest obstacle.
Great job. I haven't touched my uke for nearly a year, all I learned I forgot. I was always instructed as to how the strumming was for a song, I never really gave it anymore thought. Recently I've been practicing chords and different progressions and I couldn't figure out how to strum. We recently moved and I've joined a uke Meetup and found a local store that has nothing but ukeleles, I plan on visiting them Wednesday. Thank you as soon as I received the message of this video, I watched it then practiced the strumming techniques counting. Thankfully the video was simple to follow. I look forward to learning more from you. Thanks again for an outstanding and easy to follow video.
Very much appreciate your feedback and you choosing to learn with me! I hope this gives you some guidance going forward, and please check out some of my other series videos like Kickstart and Step Up Your Strumming. I think you'll really enjoy them. Thanks again - Kevin
Great explanations
Awesome tutorial! Thanks a lot! 😊
Awesome tutorial
Hi Kevin, Great tutorials. Learning a lot from you. Am a subscriber by the way. You helped define the strums I’ve been doing on my own. Just enjoyed their patterns without knowing their count, now I know more. Am enjoying following your lessons. Thanks lots.
Very good explanation brother . Thanks 👍
Another excellent start to what is going to be another excellent series! Thank you for sharing this!
😊
Thanks so much Kevin. I have learned so much by just watching this video.
This video helped a newbie like me soooo much. Thanks 👍
excellent teacher
Thanks for this video series it’s very informative. Please share one on the down up up strum! I’m learning Paramore the only exception and I can not seem to figure out the cadence of the stum!!! Mahalo 🙏🏽
Great suggestion!
Hi Kevin beginner in uk on lockdown found your tutorial very informative thanks
I love the Beatles too and I love classic country and I have a tenor ukulele . I 'm a beginner at it but a guir=tar player for 49 years and I'm learning to play the 5 string banjo. says Judy Corrette
Your method of teaching is excellent. Well done. Cheers. 👍

AllForUke. Thanks.
great tutorial you have explained it so well thank you
Kevin I love your explanation in your lessons, I actual learn from you 💁🏼♀️👍🏻
😊
Thank you so much Kevin ! This is the lesson i am looking for... Stumming is a bigger problem i have . I enjoy to learn from you . Thanks again
Thank you for these videos . I have always wanted to learn an instrument. At 83 I have finally, thru you began and you make it easy. Thanks
I would give the world to learn how to play my ukulele like I sit down and play the piano - or similar to how people would play a classical guitar. Soooo many youtube channels on here that are great for chording and singing along, but I'd sure love to learn a finger picking style to simply sit down and enjoy just playing pretty songs on my ukulele. Do you offer that? (I'm looking for actual videos that teach how to play popular songs with finger picking...)
Thankyou that is so helpful. Really enjoying your lessons.
Hi Kev. So glad you are back missed your lessons REGARDS Norm
Hi Kevin. Wow! You opened a door today. Been struggling with learning strumming patterns on my own in Covid19 lockdown here in North Wales, UK. Going to practise tonight and back tomorrow for lesson two. As a grandma I've been a bit down in isolation because of the virus now I've found the ups. Cheers
Very timely as I was wondering how to identify/choose which strumming pattern to use! Outstanding!
I've been hearing this from so many people out there! If you know any other ukulele players out there, feel free to share this series with them. See you back for Day 2? - Kevin
Thank you Kevin for this very interesting new series. Best wishes from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Appreciate you learning with me Tyler. This is going to be a fun series! - Kevin
Beautiful! If you wrote a book on this, I guarantee you it will sell millions. The more songs per strumming pattern would be great.
BTW, the DDU UDU strumming pattern has at least two names. The Island Strum and The Calypso Strum.
Love the way you teach.
Thanks for learning with me and checking in. How are you doing with this series so far? All the best - Kevin - www.allforuke.com/lessons
@@AllForUke I just bought a new concert after years of soprano and I am trying to get used to it and also to learn new things. Your advice about fingerpicking is really helping.

Wow! I'm learning to play ukulele during the quarantine... This video has been so illuminating! Thank yooouuu ❤️❤️❤️
Looking forward for the new website - amazing job!!!
This was extremely helpful as strumming is difficult for me
Another great course. Thank you Kevin. Whilst watching this I heard you mention the Learning Ukulele Through Songs Course. I hadn't followed it. So I hunted it down in Resources. Its really good & three fine songs. You must-have made it a good while ago though. How long exactly? Your production techniques have really come on since then but your teaching talent was apparent even then. Really enjoy having found it..
Thank you much for this, it is so helpful.
Appreciate you learning with me! - Kevin
Great tutorial.... very informative and very useful. Thanks for this👍
Glad you found it to be useful! See you back for Day 2?
Another great series, Kevin! Congratulations on the birth of your son, Grant. Hope you are getting a bit of sleep....😊
Congrats on the baby!!! As always, your teaching style is first rate. I really appreciate and look forward to your stuff. I dig the Beatles too...I mean, who doesn't, right? :) Maybe you could do a series on Beatles songs sometime. If you ever get to Northern California, would definitely love to attend a workshop with you. Thanks again.
Kevin, I've started from scratch with your Kickstart series and going on with you, I am learning!
Your teaching style is just right, thank you.
Thanks for sticking with me! Much much more to come - Kevin
Hi Kevin, I've been using your videos on RUclips for a few weeks now and I'm really impressed with the quality. They are really informative. My only question is sometimes RUclips doesn't always allow me to follow the sequence, or even find the last video I watched so I get lost trying to find each one. I've done all the strumming series and I wanted to go back to lear Sitting on the Dock of the Bay but it took me ages to find it again.
Hi David - I’d suggest using the AllForUke website which will allow you to quickly search videos and series as well as view tutorials without ads. Have a look and thanks for learning with me! - Kevin | AllForUke.com
Love the strumming video. Your new hair style looks great! I have a question. You mentioned a song book. Where can I get it?
I’ll add the link to the description
Any possibility you can do a song by Jamie Grace?
Can you use your thumb to do the strum down and up strum please let me know as I am new to playing the ukulele so please let me know as soon as possible please thanks
Fab thankyou
Probably one of the most asked questions from beginners. Great answer!! I’ll be referring players for you. Love your strumming series. Thank you for clear, patient, explanations and examples. 🤙👏❤️
Just joined :)
Oh! New baby? That explains the green screen! I have been following your series..and if I watch someone else..I'm like..'hey..how would Kevin do it?' Lol. Will you (or have you) done a series on chords? Like I have lots of trouble with a B chord..the ones that make your fingers think they are playing a game of 'twist'!
Hey Carol! Thanks for learning me. Check out my Barre Chord series when you have a chance. It will definitely help you with the B chord - Kevin
What brand of uke is this?
hi!
what type of uke you are using?
Hey EP - this is a Kamaka Long Neck tenor. What kind do you play? - Kevin
What is song form AABABA?
I have a hard time finding your pdf worksheets. I get to your web site and get in but rarely can I find worksheets like the one for this lesson. Please can you help. Tell me under which heading to search. I think I have searched everything there. I need help.
New site coming March 25th will be much improved!
AllForUke Great.
PDF is hard to get. Just seem to be in a loop confirming my email subscription and then still not being able to down load.
