Hey everyone - just checking in to see how this series is coming along for you. What do you find to be the most difficult aspects of fingerpicking thus far? Which patterns have you conquered a bit faster? I love hearing from you all so let me know, k? ~Kevin
Mine is just making sure that I'm picking in the right order. I find that I do great at certain tempos but then I loose my fingering after I repeat the pattern for so long. Any suggestions?
hey kevin , love love love the fingerpicking series. im a beginner on uke and feel I have done pretty well with the picking, although a bit of a mystery working it into a song is there any way you could do a follow up lesson with a few examples of songs for each pattern you taught. thanks
Most difficult is getting the strings to ring out property. It was hard enough with the strumming but the fingerpicking brings out all the flaws. Any suggestions?
I just found you and I'm still working on the 1st picking lesson but I LOVE your channel. Your lessons are so clear and easy to follow & all of the pointers are very helpful. Thank you 100 xs
It is awesome that you go slow for us newbies. It makes me feel dorky to practice alone, and to the contrary, it is very nice to have a real person to play along with. And, its especially great to be reminded to smile, because even though I have to un-knot my fingers every few minutes, I do enjoy playing when you remind us that we are accomplishing lots of good things for ourselves by learning a musical instrument. They are good for our physical bodies, (brain & heart especially) our minds, our emotions, and souls, as well. Thank you for being so encouraging.
Hi from the UK.. I have diagnosis of early onset dementia so I decided to keep my brain cells oiled as long as possible by learning to play one of these… What a minefield of teachers in RUclips..? So, watched you and it sunk in straight away, and more importantly for me it stayed! I can’t thank you enough. Blessings and just know your little videos will become a major part of my week as I use them to help me overcome and hold back the demise of my memory. John Pops.
@ hi Anita… thanks for these kind words.. I have now played to a few primary school children in schools in Bristol.. showing them that a brain still can’t learn something new even after the diagnosis. I go in with Alzheimer’s Society and Bristol Dementia Wellbeing… it’s great when they ask me questions like “Are you happy now you have Dementia John?”….! What a question? Blessings, John
I'm taking ukulele face to face lessons and fingerpicking came up. I came home and tried to do it but learned an awesome skill. PINKY! Put the PINKY on the face below the sound hole. OMG that was epic. I did your first lesson and is going to your Day 2 next. Thank you for your tutorials.....🤩

I have been fingerpicking almost exclusively since I started ukulele about 1 1/2 year ago. Your kickoff with travis picking was a surprise. It is something I want to learn to. Hi Kevin I am going back to the kickstart and strumming series. I am amazed by how much I have absorbed through these few weeks. I am also amazed by how much I can learn the second time through. Thanks for this Kevin, I've recently taken up the uke and love learning finger style, your lesson technique is brilliant, I will practice this before I move to lesson 2. Thanks again.
I have a question: Why is it that when you are playing the F and D7 chord, you aren't pressing the 4th string?? Please someone help me I am really confused
Kevin, how much time do you think someone should plan to devote to each "day" before they actually have it? It took me a few weeks to go through your strumming course, and truthfully I'm still not very good at using the strums in actual songs, although it was a really helpful spaced rundown.
Hey Danielle - it basically comes down to this: the more time you spend w/ the instrument in your hands, the more comfortable and confident you're going to become with it. That will show up in your playing and you'll feel more like you 'have it." I like to start my day with some practicing and then play/practice sporadically throughout the day whenever I have a few minutes. It's just more time with the ukulele in my hands. For the strumming series, space out the 7 days for as long as you want. Maybe just focus on one or two patterns for a while and try to play them with a song. When you have them down add a new pattern/song. Thanks so much for asking a great question!
Hi danielle, i finished kevin's 7day strumming in 2days. Try the song cant help falling in love and learn his strumming pattern DDU UDU so u get the urge to learn all 7days vid for not too long :)
Thank you for posting this. I found this helpful as a new player. The way you lead us into the practices was simple and easy to understand. It was great you inserted little tips here and there. In addition, you spoke in a clear and structured manner. It was a little confusing when we got to play the F and D7 chords cos they sounded different. But some of the comments below elucidated the reason. Thank you again and I will be watching your next video.

Thanks Kevin for your fantastic courses here. The progress I made with you is remarkable. You're a very valuable teacher and I appreciate your well thought and designed lessons. Greetings from Israel
This is so much better than those videos where other "teachers" pretend to teach you chords(and just strum without ever attempting to teach fingerpicking and pretending it's all oh so easy). While watching you I understood I wasn't able to pick some strings properly because I was not placing hard enough my fingers on the frets. I don't know if this is because my uke's bridge is too high or if it's just my inexperience, I get red stripy marks on my left hand fingers
Hello my friend! So, from one Educator to another, I LOVE your teaching style. You are patient and repetitive with the sequences. With my adult ADHD, it has been so easy to follow along and see my progression in skills, on my uke. I did want to point out that, as you are doing your chord progression, you have an F chord in there that should be an Am chord. I kept playing it, retuned my uke, double checked that I wasn't mixing up my chords and I couldn't figure out, for the life of me, WHY my didn't sound like yours. Then, I slowed down your video and noticed that you only had your finger on the Am chord and that your index finger was not even touching the top string, like it would in the F chord. This threw me for a loop. Just happy I figured it out! THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR AMAZING LESSONS! :)
I am an absolute newbie. But I know a thing or two about teaching. You have great pace and progression. I have subscribed and look forward to moving forward under your tutelage.
Thank you very much, I always told myself that picking was something beyond myself, but this video really helped me feel more confident that I can do it. the pinky stabilizer is killer!
Thanks for the lessons! They are very clear and fun to practice along. Love the chord progressions you choose to learn the fingerpicking method. Thanks again.

Great tutorial... To the point and concise. And, that pinky finger tip made it work for me. Thanks!
Thanks so much for this. You’ve got good pedagogy and, as a later in life learner this is incredibly helpful and immediately doable!
God bless you!
I have been playing ukulele in a group for about a year now and I like how you teach picking we haven't tried it in the group yet. Thanks Kevin
I like the pace of your tutorial. It’s easy to follow. Will update on progress later.
