  • @LinuxGalore
    @LinuxGalore 3 года назад +144

    this highlights the stupidity of modern pollution regulations. To get around the strict emissions rules car makers have made the engines smaller and added a turbo. The logic behind it all is the test is done at a low speed so the turbo isn't fully spooled up. The laugh is when the turbo is fully spooled up the engine puts out just as much or even more emissions than the older naturally aspirated fuel injected large engine. To top off the stupidity consumers end up with a more expensive and less reliable vehicle.

But our old VW with the 24v VR6 and old Mazda Miata just keep on going, even after 20 years and hundreds of thousands of miles! Unfortunately my '03 died with 265,408 miles 😢. My Dad and I would work on it together to keep it going, he was a real diy guy and watched/learned so much on RUclips or repair books and the Internet. (He passed almost 2 years ago and I miss him like crazy). But I had to get another car asap, due to my job as a longshoreman, and this dealership had an '05 CR-V with 115k miles. Went there with my godfather the next day, (he's worked on cars for around 60 years, and also knew the owner of the lot, and was also heading there anyway to buy his daughter a van). Did a test drive with the 2005 and another car, but I scooped that 2005 CR-V right there on the spot. Wrote a check, and drove it home that day. I remember both my Dad and I weren't fans of cars with too many electronics and extra chips/computers. So I think he would make the same decision I made. Hoping to get another 150k+ miles and stay on top of the maintenance 100%. Now I know two honest mechanics, one close by who works in his garage, and another with a small shop in the city but also a fellow longshoreman so he gives me a discount especially if I pay with cash.
