Its been a hard 40 plus years for me but this feels right. i didn’t love the hire in the beginning but i also didn’t hate it like the majority of fans did cause most wanted Saleh. What i did like about the MCDC hire is we didn’t go with what everyone was suggesting and went against the grain. I believe we finally have a GM and a coach thats not predictable like past regimes… I still remember when people shitted on us for the hire and only cause his first press conference. Never been happier then i am now as a Lions fan…

      @@solarhits0411 like you, I grew up down in Cowboys Country Club and was a fan of theirs since my first memory of watching a game - their win against Miami in Super Bowl VI, I think when they won 24-3. I remember when everyone down there lost their minds when Jimmy Johnson was hired. I told my uncle to just chill because within a few years they'd be in the Super Bowl - and they were. After Jerry ran off Jimmy, I've been wishing for their misfortune and even had an old voodoo woman in New Orleans make me a doll that kind of looks like Jerry Jones. I'm not kidding. So, it's had all sorts of weird stuff done to it over the years. Maybe that's why they gave Prescott & Zeke those stupid contracts. The Lions have been my team since '95 - first year I ever had season tickets at the old Silverdome - even though going to most home games there for the prior 5-6 yrs. But, you're right, this is way different. I didn't even expect them to be as good as they were last year. To me, they were a year ahead of schedule. I'm just hoping that I live long enough to see the Lions win it all. This entire state will go batshit crazy!

I especially love the fact that Management specifically Holmes is unpredictable in Free agency and also the draft. This is the first and only time i’ve believed in this staff. My only gripe is why the hell do we still have Will Harris on the team?!?!? Either way no matter how i feel about him I am going to trust that MCDC/Holmes see something i don’t.

    As a DieHard, Hardcore Raider fan, theirs few other teams I respect their fan base. Lions fans are real football fans unlike other band wagon franchises like the Patriots & Chiefs. I love the coach the Lions have & I really believe the Lions are building something special & will have a lot of playoff runs in the future, especially with this coach. I wish the Raiders had a REAL coach like coach Cambell. Before the draft my favorite QB was Hendon Hooker & Hooker is the 2nd best QB in this draft. I’m extremely disappointed my Raiders didn’t get Hendon Hooker. But Hooker is a SUPER STUD and theirs something different about this dude. Once Hendon Hooker is healthy, the coaching staff will realize how talented he is, and Hendon Hooker will be Lions starting QB. Mark my words, HENDON HOOKER WILL LEAD THE LIONS TO THEIR FIRST SB APPEARANCE in the next 3-5 years. Good things ahead for the Lions and I’m jealous the Lions got a ton of great things coming in the future. Much respect to Hendon Hooker, the Lions, and Lions fans. Your time is coming! RNFL

    • @HoneysuckleRoseSmelledGreat
      @HoneysuckleRoseSmelledGreat Год назад +4

      Thanks! Like you, I think Hendon Hooker is the real deal. Before his knee injury last season at Tennessee, he was the favorite to win the Heisman after beating Alabama AND had Tennessee at the #1 spot in the polls. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we do not extend Goff and give him some stupid contract. He's got two years left on his contract and they're not guaranteed. I want Hooker to be the starting QB sooner than later. Hopefully, we can trade Goff and get some kind of draft picks for him. Just my opinion here - Goff played better than Aaron Rodgers did last year. I was really hoping we'd trade Goff during the draft and sign Bridgewater to start until Hooker is healthy.

    • @hardcoreraider7029
      @hardcoreraider7029 Год назад +3

      @@HoneysuckleRoseSmelledGreat Ya I’m really jealous the Lions got Hooker & I think you guys had an amazing draft. Where I felt my Raiders draft was mediocre after the 2nd rd. Best situation for Hooker is to sit this year. Get up to speed with the NFL and the playbook, and have plenty of time to get his knee extremely healthy and not rush him in to soon. The next year start Hooker and he will start developing fast. Then the following year, I think the Lions are going to a SB if they don’t have change over and keep the current coach Cambell. I really think the Lions are building a very special team with a great coach that can have a lot of years of future success. Both the Raiders & the Lions have suffered from constant rebuilds and staff changes, but I’ll be watching the Lions from afar, especially once Hendon Hooker is playing. I truely believe Hooker might end up being the best QB out of this draft class when we look back years from now. And EVERYONE SLEPT on him just like they did Jalen Hurts.Especially my Raiders crapped the bed by not drafting super stud Hooker. But I’m glad the Lions got blessed with a future franchise QB. Theirs something really different and special about Hendon Hooker and he will be a great leader for the Lions franchise! RNFL

      Thanks for the love. You are right about true Lions fans not being the bandwagon type. I've been waiting for them to deliver for more than 50 years and yes, I watched every snap of that horrendous 0-16 season. I've always had a soft spot for the Raiders. They were my favorite team next to the Lions back in the 70s. Those guys knew how to bring the pain. And our Bad Boy Pistons reflected the spirit of that bunch so much they took to wearing your team colors. You're right, we've got a great coach. Sorry you're stuck with a NE schmuck. We had to endure Sweet Pea and Bluto from that New England tree for a while so I feel your pain. Good luck this season, except when you're playing us that is.

I had followed Coach Campbell's coaching career when I read an article by Jeff Darlington when Campbell had been named Interim Coach of The Miami Dolphins. Darlington's article was really good. It let us in to how Campbell transitioned from player to coach, his methods, aspirations and goals. The years Campbell spent with The Saints under the tutelage of Sean Payton is clearly visible in The Lions game. GM Brad Holmes and his staff have drafted extremely well and HC Dan Campbell and his staff have completely changed the culture and have maximized the roster. This is the perfect storm. Best coach we ever had and best GM we ever had, with one swing of the bat. It happened real fast, too. We knew going into this rebuild, its gonna take patience. Realistically, we're atleast a year ahead of schedule. Look at the bears rebuild. They started theirs before we started ours. And we're way ahead of where they're at.
    Just the fact that we're expected to win the division, after 2 short years...is exceptional. They attacked the front lines, relentlessly. And that expedited our rebuild. We still have two 2nd round DTs that can be great, if they can stay healthy. And then we took an absolute behemoth of a monster, this year. Pascal played alot on the interior, too. With Isiah Buggs getting better and better like he has, i think the interior of this line will be way better then expected. If only we could get Levi healthy.
    I do expect us to add another edge rusher. We have 24 million in cap, still. I think the rumors are real. We're gonna swing a trade to bring in Chase Young.

You also hear from players and media of how solid of a guy he is off the field as well that’s a plus… definitely will be rooting the Lions to keep it rolling they have one of the better hardcore loyal fan bases in the NFL and a coach who’s easy to root for! The roster construction seems solid but I believe they got the right guy in charge.

    I keep hearing that the Lions 2023 draft was a throwback to their 2001 draft. However, I didn’t really care much of their 2021 draft. The Lions 2021 and 2022 drafts are possibly their best drafts off franchise history. I suspect the 2023 draft will follow suit.

    Coach is right about working through the rough times. There's reason to be fired up based on how 2022 ended, but the thing is ... The players who were there through the valleys will love it all the more when they reach the peak BECAUSE they'll remember how bad it was before. All the sweeter.

    They better not take Barnes off the 53 man roster. He's one of my favorite players. The way anzalone, Rodrigo and Barnes all elevated each other's play and covered each other's weaknesses was incredible.
    I think anzalone was the best cover linebacker and Rodrigo and Barnes improved substantially. Rodrigo has the best instincts but wouldn't entirely trust himself. Barnes would commit too much and lose his gap. At this point Barnes speed and cover skills are very decent. His instincts are great. His speed is great. And his discipline is very good. Campbell and Barnes should become the main 2 linebackers

    Chris, love the podcast! Imagine this if you will. Goff has the Lions around 8-2 or 7-3 heading into the Thanksgiving Day game against the Packers. In the first half, he gets hurt. It's not a career ending injury, just a badly sprained ankle or knee which greatly inhibits his ability to run at all or put weight on that leg. Hooker comes in and takes us to the Super Bowl...AND...the Lions win ALL of their games leading up to the Super Bowl. Lions trade Goff during the 2024 draft. That trade gets us enough draft capital to make a move WAY up the draft board and get Marvin Jones, Jr. What do you think?

    Learning how to win in the moment. That is why you have to execute on forth down. By converting on 3rd and 4th down you break the back of the opponent. All their hard work was for naught if they don’t stop you. Campbell understands this, his players understand this, the players know they can execute in the moment. That is what wins.
