my suggestion with clay: use epoxy clay or polymer clay, they don't warp at all, but they kinda harder to work with than the paper clay, but once you get the trick they are the best and you never look back! Thanks for the link, those rollers will be a lot of fun for playing around with and your texturing trick with the soldering iron... just awsome, i will give it a try tomorrow!
I think the large round rollers were designed to be used with a dowel or similar in the middle to save your hands. Maybe I saw that on Black Magic Crafts...I don't recall exactly. Great content...keep it up!
Yes, you are correct, there is a printable pin you can use or simply a small Home Depot paint roller which fits right in the open side... I used to just using my hands though.
Just watched yesterday this video, then noticed your results with paper clay and looked with new eyes at the El Cheapo kid's foam clay pack i bought on a whim a while ago just to put some elevation on bases easily. Tried it, and the damn thing worked a helluva lot better than it had any right to work, cured overnight to the feel of EVA foam (super light, rubbery and springy), but with all the detail on it. Need to see how it takes primer, paints and glues (it feels 100% like EVA foam so it should work just fine), if so i have a new favorite crafting material now :D
With respect to the stamps and rollers, absolutely a yes on that question. I've found the heated tinfoil technique works best on XPS foam. With that said, the Dollar Tree foam is thinner and may not be ideal depending on what you are building... Sometimes you need the thicker XPS for larger builds. Hope that is helpful?
Good question, I would say yes in most cases... The only time I can't use the Dollar Tree foam is when I need something thicker and more rigid, in which case I would go with the XPS foam. Hope that helps?
It's totally worth it! If you have a 3D printer you're good to go... Here is a link to a whole bunch of texture rollers that you can download for free: www.thingiverse.com/thing:4570980
Yeah, we bought all the .stl files through this kickstarter campaign and have enjoyed using them. As a condition of the purchase, we are not allowed to share those .stl files unfortunately so you can purchase them through the kickstarter, or we are licensed to print and sell them to you if interested? Hope that helps...
Interesting, yeah they indeed have taken that link down for some reason... I would suggest a Google search for free 3D printed rollers and see what comes up. Hope that helps?
Hi there... All the green rollers and stamps were printed with PLA on my Crealty 3 Pro printer on the standard setting, no need to print on high quality setting. Thanks for watching!
awesome video youre still helping creators a year later!
Awesome! Thanks for that comment, I appreciate it
What a great comparison of various texture rollers on different materials! Thanks for this video.
Absolutely! Happy to share that information👊
Exactly what I was looking for, thanks for the roundup!

I would like to see you try the heated tinfoil texture technique on XPS and then use a roller to see if that improves the look of the bricks
THANK YOU!!!
So with the rollers, why don't you drill a hole in each end and fit a Paint
roller handle ? You'll then have even pressure as you roll out the work ?
Maybe for stamps it needs to be tpu filament to get them off more easily?
Would you say , you recommend the Dollar tree foam over the XPS foam?

Im afraid the link to the roller stl. files no longer works...
Yeah, that's what I'm hearing... Not sure what happened to those
The 3D roller link is just a Kickstarter?? Can’t buy or print.

What happened to the thingiverse link... 😭
wondering if you printed out the rollers on a resin printer or FDM printer.
Actually, these were all printed out on a Creality Ender 3 Pro printer and they turned out just fine on the standard quality setting.
Did u resin or pla print the rollers?

After seeing this video, i should print some rollers
I use them all the time and they work great, AND save you some time
I wonder how this would work on the "Cold Porcelain" that DM Scotty makes?
