    How are we still considering brachycephalic dogs not inhumane is beyond me. He's cute as a button, but Victoria admitting that getting riled up is bad for him because he literally cannot breath is heartbreaking. He could be just as cute with a muzzle pushed a little more outwards, just enough to make him a healthier dog. But no, frenchies are being bred to have the flattest muzzles possible because people find them cuter and buy them more, no matter that the dog suffers from it :(

    Yeah, we have our old man dog, Buddy. He doesn't do this, but he uh... Whips it out and chews on it and procedes to hump around in circles. At first, the vets thought he was doing it because his glands needed to be drained (and that's probably what it was, at first) but unfortunately he just learned that the behavior is pleasurable. And since he was my grandmother's dog for several years, she had no idea what to do about it, so it is very much an ingrained behavior. Most we can do now is give him some distraction, like treats or offering to take him for a walk. Unfortunately, after the leg surgery and his dachshund genetics, we can't really resort to those options anymore lol. My grandma's friends all live in Europe, so at least guests never have to worry about it. But oh boy, when those guys came in to fix the fireplace. They couldn't stop laughing. One guy even ended up on the floor and had to set down his hammer he laughed so hard. Woah, this comment got long. Anyway, I love that little weirdo to death, even if he takes "self love" a bit to the extreme :P

We just learnt we have to stay on top of him and then he stops. But it still happens. We distract him, with toys etc. We call him "Jerkle Urkle". There's times we are walking him, while I'm talking to another dog dad or mom and he is doing it on the sidewalk. I will have to disagree with the idea that you can't provide a dog ball but not allow other toy balls that aren't his. It's entirely possible to label toys and teach the dog what toys are theirs and what toys are not. I myself have a very ball-driven dog, and my last couple of dogs were ball driven, one loved stuffed animals, and all my dogs were given and taught which toys belonged to them and which ones they were not allowed to have because they belonged to my kids. We do not interchange toys in my house to avoid confusion. And if the dog shows interest in a toy my kids have I tell him no and send him to get his toy instead. Dogs are very smart and I've found some breeds show great intelligence and the ability to recognize objects such as toys, bowls, leashes, etc. The ability to learn what an object is is why assistance service dogs are so helpful and essential to those who can't pick up dropped objects.

    Awesome video as usual. I would have handled the ball issue a bit differently but the method she used is also great. I have used the same method myself with great success. So many dog teachers get caught up there is ony 1 way to teach things when there are usually several ways to teach the same thing. Does not mean anyone is wrong just means they have knowledge.

      Maybe, maybe not. It’s a common thing for sticky dogs like frenchies, it’s just their way of grooming. Most dogs have long enough bodies or necks to clean themselves, but dogs like frenchies can’t reach there and “touching themselves” is their way of grooming

    My grandmother has a Frenchie and he is so cute but a little terror😭 first of all he hates cats- and he's even grown up with them. We have 3 so when she comes over we have to lock them up in a room until he leaves, if not he will bark and jump around and try to nip at their tails. He stands outside the front door or races you to it to try and go outside (we live in a neighborhood) despite us having a whole fenced-in backyard for him to run around in. He will steal your food and whenever you eat anything he will legit stand on your lap with his face right up against yours. My grandmother loves him and I would hate if anything ever happens to him but I don't look forward to his visits XD

    Well it could be worse. I have two cats that like to groom each other. I have caught my female cat 'cleaning' my male cat.He is just stretched out on his back and she is going away. On my bed no less. Yes they are both fixed. It's funny because we humans are the ones that have the problem.They are just grooming each other. It's not even sexual. This behavior is very common from Adult cats to their kittens to get them to go potty. This mutual cleaning happens between friends as they get older.

      @@maxfrax333 The grooming they do is considered both. They clean with their tounge but also do it to calm themselves. Normally this groming is done with his mouth but he can't reach it. In my cats case she was doing it for him. My cat is fixed and not in heat. This is them just chilling like this dog.

    I really love this episode, but the problem I have is doing tug-of-war with the French bulldog Pierre. They are prone to spinal conditions that lead to IVDD. Even if the adults are the only one playing, I'm sure the kids would want to get involved, and they'll play way harder with Pierre. I don't get this part.

    • @IAmBuddythedecibwave
      @IAmBuddythedecibwave Год назад +3

      Well, with older kids you can set play guidelines. With smaller children, well....they shouldn't be allowed to play with a dog anyways. Big or, especially, small.
