I own a Suzuka Grey TTRS8J and absolutely love it. The only mods it’s got is an APR remap and secondary decats. The car pulls like a train and looks fantastic. The car is mint , I don’t think I’ll ever get rid of it.
We own a 2010 TT RS in Suzuka grey, owned for nearly 9 years now, stage 1 map, fast road clutch....... considered selling a while ago but decided against it, couldn't find anything that came close, definitely a keeper....
I own a TTRS, identical to the one in the video, (although mine would be considered a Plus version,) and I can most certainly say it is not only sensible, but a true driver's car. I've loaded up the boot with all my belongings and taken it on long trips down the east coast of the US. You can easily pass cars in 6th gear just tapping the throttle, and rip around corners with confidence, even kicking out the rear end on slicker/colder surfaces. A lot of easy improvements can be made, including a tune, stiffer sway bars, Haldex controller, even an LSD for the rear to make it a real track monster. I just love the simplicity, the analog feel, and the half exotic half rally car tone from the engine and exhaust. So happy to have picked one up before they skyrocket in price!
Very good review! I've had a standard TT 2008 Stage 1 for nearly 3 years and it's a joy to drive. Between the TTS and TTRS I'd go with the former, manual, 2014 for the lower running costs and taxes.
It is indeed a sensible choice. I have my TTRS 8J since 2019. Service & insurance is about as much as for a GTI (here in germany). The car can consume less than 8 liter per 100 km, while when you drive fast it doesn‘t really go higher than 11 liter which isn‘t that much. These cars are reliable too. I‘ve done many mods to mine while keeping a 100% stock look. Prices have gone up as well. If I would sell it right now I would get the money I paid for it + the money it dumped for mods. The 8J is the last available 5 cylinder Turbo with a manual transmission which is very sought after. Is also have a 2007 TT 8J 3.2 which is also reliable and cheap to run.
@@treedeblue good question, I actually test drove a M2 before I bought the RS. My main problem was the interior feeling but it‘s also way more modern than the TTRS. To many that‘s a pro, since I don‘t like modern cars, it was a big con for me. If we are talking track performance it can indeed keep up with a M2. Many track tests showed this. The M2 is probably the more challenging car, if that is what you are after go with the BMW. The TTRS is way more easy to drive like a point and shoot weapon. Whichever one you buy you‘ll not regret it.
@@GuardsRed996 thanks for the great answer, currently I’m on the fence. I own a TTRS and was thinking of selling it and buying a M2. The TTRS is great yet the steering feels numb, if that makes since. I’ll have to test drive a 2017 M2, isn’t the M2 a rather small car?
@@treedeblue yes, the M2 isn‘t a large car for sure but it‘s in the same size category as the TT. I know what you mean with the steering but have you tried to mod it? For me changing from a TTRS to an M2 isn‘t much of an upgrade. Both are phenomenal cars in their own right yet they are quite comparable regarding the performance figures. But the driving fun will be higher in the BMW for sure.
I bought an absolutely mint 2012 TT 2.0 TSFI back in June and I love it so much I'm now keeping an eye out for a similar specced RS to upgrade too. Fingers crossed a nice one turns up but not in any rush which makes it exciting. Very useful video!

Do it, you won't regret it. The 2.5 is also quite a bit more reliable than the 2.0.
