  • The TT RS is a unique performance car from Audi. On the outside you will discover 20in wheels, fixed rear wing and dual-outlet exhaust. On the inside there is a super clean interior, leather performance seats and digital cockpit. Under the hood is a 2.5L turbocharged inline-5 that produces 400HP. Is the Audi TT RS the BEST performance car to regret NOT buying?

I've owned a 2018 for the last year. Bought a very low mileage car, only 5,700 miles. The car has an APR stage 1 tune and is a beast! I leave the rear seats down, which not only gives you a ton of extra space in the back, but has the added benefit of making the exhaust louder in the car :) . Yes, it has grip for days, a super engine with a unique sound and minimal turbo lag. On a highway trip averaging 75 mph, I can get 35 mpg. I average about 26 mixed. A very underrated car!!

Fell in love with the 1st gen when I was 9yo, and knew at some point I'd get one. Fast forward 21 years, with everything going electric/ crossover, I knew my time was running out to get one; especially with how hard they are to find in the US. Was lucky enough to find a Turbo Blue TTRS with only 7k miles on it for $65k last year. At the time it wasn't my most ideal decision financially, but I knew my chances of finding another in that color and mileage was probably never going to happen again. I cut back on spending, sold my Lexus RC350, and put as much of my spare income towards the car to keep the payments manageable, and now the car is paid off! The engine and sport exhaust alone is worth the price, take it from me. Got a Unitronic Stage 1 tune with the trans tune gets it to about 475hp, and is a supercar killer with plenty of room for groceries and luggage.

A true sports compact. Perfect size, IMO. Unfortunately, it was ahead of its time…no one wanted to fork out +$70k for a 5cyl. But now that everyone is going turbo 4, the TTRS is (finally) looking more reasonable. In addition, when Audi dropped the manual option, the TTRS lost its last remaining fans. It’s sad to see great cars getting mismanaged.😢

@@HansDelbruck53 agreed. The TTRS couldn’t compete with its competition on track but could definitely bring the same joy on the street. Audi should’ve taken a page from Lotus and offered a manual (and clean up the fake vents). Look no further than the Emira…not the fastest nor the most refined, but it’s got looks that kill, offered in a manual, and is selling like hotcakes.

Back in 2002 one of my friends bought a TT that was a lemon. He got it from a shady car lot and the thing was always breaking down and the turbos constantly went out. It was a shame because it was a good looking car. The interior of this car is beautiful with the blue accents! I busted crème with all of the blue stitching. I’ve worked in the ambulance manufacturing industry for almost 22 years with 13 of those doing the upholstery work, and one of my favorite things to do was add contrast stitching which wasn’t asked of me, but I was given project control so I took full advantage of that trust.

one of my first performance cars was a ttrs, tbh its an amazing car. Its super quick off the line and is a little monster on track that has enough power using its awd to explode out of corners. It's such a shame Audi never put their heart into developing and improving this thing and instead killed it. There was a performance parts pack audi released for the ttrs and R8 back in 2019ish, the parts take it to another level but mainly obtainable in EU. If only Audi added all the parts and some unique tuning together as a track day special this car truly has the potential to be one of the best sports cars in modern times. I still love the 5 cylinder sound to this day.

The 2023 hasn't changed much from my 2018. This little car is freakishly fast and oh so much fun to drive. Let me put it into perspective: I own a 2012 Corvette Z06 with the mighty 7L LS7 V8, a 2017 Jaguar F-type R with the 550hp supercharged 5L V8, and a Mercedes Benz SL63 AMG with a 525hp naturally aspirated 6.2lL V8. That puny 2.5L turbo in tge TT RS, with a mere 400hp, is as fast as the fastest of those others. The acceleration is effortless. It has torque you wouldn't expect from a turbo.

Rear seats mean I can still get this car as a father of 2 and a car guy.

Very few people tend to mention that the S-Tronic gearboxes suck, I guess in America its kind of normal to have an auto, but the thing is, its a compromised system, and has flaws, like hesitating when pulling away - which is not a small flaw, its horrible. A reviewer may not notice this because it doesn't happen all the time, it gets you when you least expect it... this isn't an uncommon issue. A car like this isn't meant to be the fastest, the few milliseconds saved by using the auto box isn't worth it for the kind of car it is. My biggest issue with it is subjective, and that is the auto box sucks the fun out of the driving experience. It just feels so sterile and easy, its like a fast SUV shopping wagon. Like if you want to drive 200 miles, or commute, maybe a TT isn't really the best choice. So yeah I'm bummed that they never made a manual TT RS, the next best thing is the TTS manual. The other thing that is kind of shitty about TT Mk3s is the driving position, its really bad. You have to have the backrest upright because if you don't, you have to move the seat closer, but then your legs will be all bunched up... it could be rectified by just letting the steering wheel come out a bit more, or giving more legroom. Just a shame that this otherwise great car is (imo) held back by silly little things like this.

I wanted one of these to replace my S4. Looking at the option list is just *absurd*.
There are so many incredibly-overpriced options that you would think come standard on something so expensive.
Audi takes the "the base RS is equipped like the base TT" approach (and does so with all its models.) and so many things are part of large option packages.
A TTRS with light equipment came to $78,885 and I just bought another S4 with more stuff V6 vs I5, better transmission, and Torsen AWD [vs Haldex] for 20k off.
11:45 that gear selector, nice though it is, is a million degrees in summer and -400 in winter due to being made of metal.
14:30... they're literally made from magnesium with a plastic backing because of the aforementioned heat/cold problem inherent with metal touchpoints.
This car is such a weird combination of different generations of Audi product:
MMI inputs and wheel design from the 2018 (B9) S4
Headlights switchgear, pedals, gear selector, and paddles from the 2014 (B8.5) S4.
    "No manual transmission, bummer."
I'm forever lamenting that my high-performance car isn't slower, thirstier, and producing more pollution.
18:40 "A manual to feel unique"
    Annnnd there it is.

IMO manuals are way more fun than autos, there is really only two reasons for autos: People who only care about speed at the cost of driver involvement, and people who are lazy and don't want to change gear (or if they have paddles, they don't want to heel and toe etc). A car like a TT is exactly the kind of car which suits a manual - its not trying to be the fastest - its main appeal is fun. But having said that, if you live in an area where all the roads are straight, no car will be that much fun other than how fast it is, so I get the desire for an auto. I don't see why you seem to be against there being an option for people who like manuals.
