This definitely needs to be discussed more. Big corporations these days have their minds set on ground breaking graphics since that's all gamer's look for when referring to how good a game looks.
You can see this in some games that have been put out in the past couple of years, mainly just hammering in how good the graphics look while the game itself plays more like an interactive movie than a game. Namely, and I have to guess referenced in this video for the same reason, the Last of Us 2, which, why did this game even need a remaster????? This is one of the only things to happen in gaming that genuinely irks and confuses me. That game came out so recently, while games like Bloodborne sit collecting dust waiting for a much more anticipated remaster. Not just bloodborne but that's a game dear to me, and I know it's not like TLOU2 stole the remaster from another game but still, bruh
Hell fuckin yeah bro, some of the best games nowadays or at least my favorites are the ones that lean into that stylized graphical world because it’s a different type of immersive experience. I want to see an environment I’ve never seen before and these games blow it out of the water with how creative they can get instead of fitting into the mold of how realistic they can push it.
This is something the larger gaming community doesn’t seem to understand. I just played Bioshock for the first time a few months ago and it looks amazing! Beautiful art direction
I feel like ff7r doesn't really work graphically to the fullest. It's a much better balance of art style and graphical fidelity than, say the last of us, but there's a such a unique goofiness about the old models that i wish they played into that a bit more. The game still looks incredible, but if they went the little extra distance i would've been more satisfied
I personally think they did a great job balancing the art direction and graphical fidelity in that game, but I understand the charm from OG you’re referring to. VII is my favorite game of all time and I agree that I love that original style the older models have.
Skyrim to this day is such a beautiful game, and so are other old games. New games are only more realistic but thats not what we want(or at least what I dont want) im playing video games to fly, pass tru walls, spit fire, transform into stuff, swim trough lava,be invincible, experience something that i can not do in real life because im playing games with one purpose and that is to do something completely unthinkable like beating dragons or becoming elden lord. It might be just me but quality doesnt necessary mean looking more realistic, its just looking better.🗣️🐊🪵
Bro you hyped me up so much I would fight an alien invasion for you
This is the most badass comment I’ve ever gotten let’s go

This is what happens when a war general is born into a time of peace.

Get ready for the new 2025 release: The Last of Us 2 Remastered Remake.
Completely agree with you
The last two Ratchet & Clank games had great art direction, but were still held back by obsession with fidelity over depth.
Great video. Funny and informative. You deserve more views.
Great video mate especially from the minute mark 😂

You should talk about Remedy games in this topic, they look incredible art direction wise and realism wise
I included a short snippet of the original Max Payne towards the end as well as Alan Wake 2 in the beginning, love their work!
1:05 😂😂😂
What's the game at 0:45?
Phantom Blade Zero, it’s coming out soon!
