As I write this, Lamont Dozier has passed away at age 81. My heart is heavy and I feel immense loss, but will be forever grateful for his beautiful songs and the mark that he left in the world of music. Rest on Lamont! They don't make 'em like you anymore!! Music wouldn't be the same without you!!!!
@Darryl Ruiz Berry saw Diana's versatile singing styles, which equaled marketability to execute his vision. It was about the business and building his company. It worked!
I get goose bumps when I hear these girls sing ! Dam they are magic! Sorry hip hop step back! Nothing compares to the songs of Motown! Guess I'm showing my age ! I so wish this kind of music would come back!
Motown is the greatest. They tried their best to match up with the white musicians and most of them surpassed them. They showed dignity and respect for themselves, used instruments and played them beautifully. Special shout out to Jr. Walker and his talent for the saxophone. He alternates between singing and playing the sax and looks exhausted. Now that is talent. They didn't need to use profanity and the women acted and dressed like ladies. Rap took over and shit all over the talent these AA brought us.
Detroit in its finest hour!!! Motown, GM, Ford, and Chrysler could do no wrong. I wasn’t born till the 80s but there’s no day that goes by that I don’t listen to at least one Motown song while driving my Michigan built Mustang!!!
My mother loved Motown music, i got to stay up and watch this as a toddler in Lynn Ma 1967 what an event and esp in color all these years later!! Miss you Mom and Richard..thank you for the video.
Those were good times ....great songs ... beautiful outfits. I love those dresses. I noticed some comments ...about how the ladies dressed years ago. I miss getting all dressed up. Getting married didn't help. Now I go out by myself...try to dress nicely. Spent too many years not caring ... wore t-shirts and sweatpants. yuk. The clothes today...aren't all too nice and pretty. Mostly ugly. I'll enjoy the music and remember those days instead. Classy back then.
+Muffett53 I agree! I enjoy makeup and pretty things. Nowadays, women get looked weird for attempting to look nice. Me personally, I love getting all dolled up and putting on makeup and pretty clothes.
ME too. I don't wear much for makeup. It's been so long since I dressed up. One thing is missing .... the men who don't compliment us and should. Those days are disappearing. Being ladies and gentlemen. I got too used to wearing t-shirts and jeans or shorts...looking sloppy. I love getting dolled up too.
This song makes me cry! 😭 It’s so emotional and dramatic. The passion in their voices feels so real. We can all relate to the lyrics, we’ve all been heartbroken to this epic emotional extent! ♥️
Don Hawkins This was one of the last, but the very last was on the Tonight Show. They performed The Happening on the episode. I found their segment, including the performance, on RUclips a few months ago. Florence showed her infectious personality during the interview, memorably saying that if all the rumors about them had been true, they would have all been married multiple times and had many kids by then.

Something exceptional about this song is when Diana Ross speaks a couple of lines, then resumes the song.'You closed the door to your heart and you turned the keylocked your love away from me'. It is like rhyming couplets in a poem, and makes the song stand out more.
For some reason the “Heavy Heavy” scene from the movie Dreamgirls pops to my head when Diana is right up to the camera and Flo/Mary are way in the background. It’s like when Deena has all the cameras on her and Effie gets furious. This is a fabulous performance but Flo had to have been annoyed. She was barely lip syncing and moving.
