As I write this, Lamont Dozier has passed away at age 81. My heart is heavy and I feel immense loss, but will be forever grateful for his beautiful songs and the mark that he left in the world of music. Rest on Lamont! They don't make 'em like you anymore!! Music wouldn't be the same without you!!!!

Motown is the greatest. They tried their best to match up with the white musicians and most of them surpassed them. They showed dignity and respect for themselves, used instruments and played them beautifully. Special shout out to Jr. Walker and his talent for the saxophone. He alternates between singing and playing the sax and looks exhausted. Now that is talent. They didn't need to use profanity and the women acted and dressed like ladies. Rap took over and shit all over the talent these AA brought us.

Those were good times ....great songs ... beautiful outfits. I love those dresses. I noticed some comments ...about how the ladies dressed years ago. I miss getting all dressed up. Getting married didn't help. Now I go out by myself...try to dress nicely. Spent too many years not caring ... wore t-shirts and sweatpants. yuk. The clothes today...aren't all too nice and pretty. Mostly ugly. I'll enjoy the music and remember those days instead. Classy back then.

ME too. I don't wear much for makeup. It's been so long since I dressed up. One thing is missing .... the men who don't compliment us and should. Those days are disappearing. Being ladies and gentlemen. I got too used to wearing t-shirts and jeans or shorts...looking sloppy. I love getting dolled up too.

The best was here, and now they're gone. I miss yesterday. Everything is so fleeting now, to those of you who have time to spare you really don't. This was yesterday to me, it all went by too fast. It will go fast for you too before you know it, and then the generation before will love or make fun of your music. This is the best of my generation, the very best, and they did it in spite of the prejudices of the day and times. They prevailed because they were the best at what they did, because they could do no other, the cream always rises to the top, the best of the best.

I miss your yesterday, and I wasn't even a part of it. I steep myself in it because being immersed in the past is the only way I can stand the present. I know exactly what you mean about it moving fast.

On this day in 1967 {March 4th} the Supremes* performed "Love is Here and Now You're Gone" on the Dick Clark ABC-TV Saturday-afternoon program 'American Bandstand'...
At the time the song was in it's second of two weeks at #2 on Billboard's Top 100 chart, the following week it would peak at #1 {for 1 week} and it spent eleven weeks on the Top 100...
And on the same day it peaked at #1 on the Top 100 it also reached #1 {for 2 weeks} on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart...
It was the third of four straight #1 records on the Top 100, started with "You Can't Hurry Love", followed by "You Keep Me Hangin' On", then this one, and finally "The Happening"...
After four straight #1 records, their next release, "Reflections", would peak at #2...
Between 1962 and 1976 the Motown trio had forty-five records on the Top 100 chart, twenty made the Top 10 with twelve reaching #1...
They just missed having two more #1 records when both the above "Reflections" and "I'm Gonna Make You Love Me" peaked at #2...
    * For their first eighteen charted records they were 'The Supremes', then for their next thirteen charted records it was 'Diana Ross and the Supremes, and finally for their last fourteen charted records it was back to 'The Supremes' but without Diana Ross as a member...

As a child of 8 listening to this song, I was totally in love with a couple of my teachers in school and some of my older sisters friends. We were so lucky having so many upbeat songs with lyrics that were romantic and full of hope. Although I must admit this song is a little bit sad and heartbreaking.

Needless to say, the jewelry was sent back home with a letter to my Mom. :-(

This is how female singers should still dress instead of being stuffed into skimpy outfits because they have little musical talent that's sometimes ignored because of their distracting clothes. The Supremes have amazing voices and they dress classy and it just compliments their singing.
