    Mick Jagger said that the idea of this song came to mind when the band visited a friend's flat during the height of the Vietnam protests.. and while they were there, looking out the window, a riot broke out in the street right outside the window.. he said they were all pretty scared.. and it was the realization that, with both sides clashing, the mob mentality, violence starts so easily... people attacking each other...war could be started so easily.... Cool song. Still relevant today..

    • @AndrewMcgill-j5c
      @AndrewMcgill-j5c 4 месяца назад +1

      I don't know why Jagger said that.The song actually came about when Keith was looking out of the window of a friends flat on a dull and grey miserable day.People were running for shelter in shop doorways etc.

      @@AndrewMcgill-j5c I don't believe so, Mick wrote this to highlight the danger of wars, not raindrops..

    • @AndrewMcgill-j5c
      @AndrewMcgill-j5c Месяц назад

      @margaretflounders8510 I never said he wrote it about raindrops I said the original idea of the song came from Keith seeing people running for shelter from the storm.He might have had that idea for years before the end song was finalised.The song is an anti war song but sometimes an idea takes a whole different path from it's origins.
      Eg "Jumping Jack Flash" came about because the Gardner made a noise passing Micks bedroom Window.

    Welcome to the turbulent 60s. Many songs of that time were a protest of events that affected us all. Run Through The Jungle by CCR and We Gotta Get Out Of This Place by the Animals. Lots of good but heartfelt music.
    The female singer was Merry Clayton. Apparently, she was home and not feeling well. Mick called her in the middle of the night and asked her help. She showed up in a bathrobe (according to the rumor) and did this song in one "take".

    This is definitely in the Stones' top five. The vibe more 'Cold War' (when going to sleep, many wondered if they'd be around to awake next morning) than Vietnam. Rather than recommend their obvious oned, a choice from left field 'She's a Rainbow" from their eclectic "Satanic Majesty's Request" album.

Anyway, if you are exploring music you will definitely want to watch this documentary.

    This is about what happens in war, like the Vietnam War, namely the My-Lai massacre of 1968. Younger generations look absolutely horrified by the lyrics, because today's generation doesn't know enough about what past generations grew up knowing.

    • @CelcaReact
      @CelcaReact  5 месяцев назад

      True. But still if u think it was hard growing up in the happy sixties I disagree a bit. Growing up in early 1900 u have 2 world wars, Spanish flue, and bad economy in 1920s and after second World War, cold war slowly started and u will also witness your President being assassinated and the hot Cuba Crisis, and beginning of Vietnam War. Thats a wild timeline to live in for sure

    I'm new here and find you to be very refreshing. And,the music you have reviewed is so great and diverse. Few other reviewers can compare.
    You will be a nice diversion as I listen to reviews daily of my favorite band,Band Maid; 5 Japanese women who play their own genre,especially hard rock. Formed in 2013,so far,they have released more than 120 songs. Many songs are performed acoustically as well. We devoted fans are called Maidiacs.
    It's hard to select just one song for an introduction but this one is a good start:
