Recorded and released in 1969 from the Rolling Stones album 'Let it bleed'... the single 'Gimme Shelter' featured the soul vocals of guest singer Merry Clayton on the studio track - her powerful voice captivated the song over Mick Jagger's vocals, making the song powerful... the lyrics were inspired by the Vietnam War era and the tensions & civil unrest in America in 1969 at the beginning of Pres. Nixon's era.
Love it when you are watching and talking about proper music by one of the greatest bands ever and has been for 6 decades..He is definitely singing Gimme Shelter. I saw them live in Glasgow 1973 and 1976. Great reaction from you 3 girls. He was very subdued here.
Born and raised and still live in same town where Keith and mick was born and finally recently we had a statue of the pair erected in our town square seen them 7 times.. a great reaction girls and hope to see more stones on your channel
Everytime I see the Stones , I'm reminded of a bit in Mad Magazine many years ago . They did a depiction of a 90 year old Mick Jagger on stage , leaning on a walker , singing " Now I Really Can't Get No Satisfaction " . I'll say this for the artist , theu got the wrinkles right in the drawing .
I saw them in concert in 1972 and 1984. The Stones just keep on Rolling😊. Charlie Watt ,the drummer, passed away a few years ago. He was the oldest band member. I think they’re the longest formed group in Rock and Roll history, 60 years or so, Ladies, Mick Jagger is always high energy. Any live video is good. Love your channel!
I saw them in '72 as well, in San Francisco when Stevie Wonder opened for them. That was my favorite Stones era with Mick Taylor on guitar. Also saw them in '69 at Altamont, but unfortunately that turned into a disaster. The daytime portion of the concert was better when Santana, Jefferson Airplane and CSNY played. As the day wore on and the Hells Angels, hired as security and paid in beer, consumed a few too many cases, and things got ugly.
Bill Wyman was oldest original member of the group. Born 1936 in SE London he was old enough to watch the Battle of Britain take place in the skies above his home area. Most of the 1960s British musicians were born in WW2 from about 1940 (Ringo Starr & John Lennon) to just after (members of The Who, Eric Clapton, etc). They were affected by WW2 and played in the bomb craters and damaged buildings but not many old enough to experience it consciously and to be shot at by German aeroplanes
I saw Sir Mick and the lads play at The Anfield Stadium in Liverpool just over two years ago. Hard to believe it was 1971 the last time The Stones played in Liverpool. I wanted to go with my Mum and Dad but as I was only eight at the time, they thought I was too Young. The Stones were brilliant that night at Anfield in 2022, it was hard to believe here was a bunch of septuagenarian's showing the young ones how to do it. Seemed like from the start of the show to the end every song was a classic. The only thing to take the shine of the show was that Charlie Watts wasn't on the drums. RIP Charlie, he was underrated but one of the best.
Tina Turner taught Mick some moves back in the day they were good friends. The lyrics are very profound an antiwar song:- Ooh, a storm is threatening My very life today If I don't get some shelter Ooh yeah I'm gonna fade away War, children It's just a shot away It's just a shot away War, children It's just a shot away It's just a shot away Ooh, see the fire is sweepin' Our streets today Burns like a red coal carpet Mad bull lost its way War, children It's just a shot away It's just a shot away War, children It's just a shot away It's just a shot away Rape, murder, it's just a shot away It's just a shot away Rape, murder, yeah, it's just a shot away It's just a shot away Rape, murder, it's just a shot away It's just a shot away Mmm, a flood is threatening My very life today Gimme, gimme shelter Or I'm gonna fade away War, children It's just a shot away It's just a shot away It's just a shot away It's just a shot away It's just a shot away I tell you love, sister It's just a kiss away It's just a kiss away It's just a kiss away It's just a kiss away It's just a kiss away Kiss away, kiss away
Kathy & Donna have great facial expressions and always wonder what Lulu will say next!! Lisa Fischer( backup singer)did some tours with the Stones, but Merry Clayton did the original vocal work on this track. There’s a movie 20 feet from Stardom that gives you a bigger peak behind the recording.
The song 🎵 that Lulu was talking about was Moves like Jagger by Maroon 5 featuring Christina Aguilera which was released in 2010. Not a bad official video to it either.
Lisa Fischer was one of the backup singers for the Rolling Stones for many years and this was her moment to shine during the concert. A great voice, a great song and a great band.
If you want to check out Jagger moving on stage, I recommend the original music video for Jumpin Jack Flash (1968), also the live version of Sympathy for the Devil from the Rock n Roll Circus in 1968, and Out of Control live in 1997 in Buenos Aires.
Man is it nice to see Charlie Watts again on the drum kit. He wasn't flashy or full of tricks, he just anchored the Stones like a R O C K! Give Me Shelter is a Stones signature song. It's a classic and one of their very best.
The Stones are still bringing it! Just saw them last month in Santa Clara, CA (with both my 17 year old son and 31 year old daughter!) touring for their latest album...
Me and the wife saw them live at the Ohio State Football stadium in Columbus, Ohio, about 15 years ago. We were about row 30 at the field level, amazing view, especially when part of the stage extended out to about row 20 and Mick walked to the end of it while singing. They put on a fantastic performance.
Definitely one of my favourite stones songs. Love them and my parents were so happy when i started digging them yhem in the mid sixties ❤❤. My favourite is Shattered. Check that one out please! True legends of rock and roll!!!!!!!!!!!!! Great reaction ladies!❤❤❤
Jaggers moves: Keith Richards explains in his book that the Stones started in crowded little clubs with tiny stages. The five of them were crammed so tight on the stage that Jagger had to dance in one confined spot, and basically swivel his shoulders.
That is the best live version of this song I have ever seen, and I have seen a bunch of them over time. Man, they were on utter fire there, they always do a great job on this tune. See the official lyric video for the original studio sometime, one of their best tunes, a timeless classic. Enjoy ladies, you're doing great, Rock On! 🔥🎵🎸🎤🎸🎹🎷🎶🔥
See Mick with other artists SuperHeavy was a one-off supergroup project consisting of Mick Jagger, Joss Stone, Dave Stewart, A. R. Rahman, and Damian Marley . First single called Miracle Worker
Mick is one of a kind. The late great Charlie watts is on drums. Jimmy Fallon can sing and talk with mick's strutting. The band members are hitting their 80s
Great reaction ladies! And yes, you really, really should see more RS live videos. Mick is even more animated in them than this particular video. You will really enjoy them all.
This song from the Let It Bleed album (Nov '69) finished off the 1960s. Their first album in 1964 was so innocent, and it seemed fitting that they saw out the decade with something gritty.
I got to see the Stones only one time in all their years of touring, it was back in 1981. It was outdoors in Buffalo, NY, and there were at least 60k people in that stadium, probably more. It's hard to believe that The Rolling Stones have at it for so many decades, lot's of time for Mick Jagger to perfect his moves!!! lol
This is calm compared to how they played it in the late '60s and early '70s. Keith is phoning it home here on guitar, and Ron Wood is clueless about the leads Mick Taylor used to play. Merry Clayton sang those haunting high vocals on the original and her young voice is sorely missed here. But this WAS a good portrait of the Stones in later years. Laid back, not in-your-face and out of control. Good reaction!
Thanks for the great reaction. I agree, it seemed somewhat subdued. I prefer their live version in Cuba (Havana Moon) video, when Cuba finally got first chance to see the Stones live. Excellent concert, and amazing crowd. Thank you.
The Stones had a number of song . Lets spend the the night together. Cant get no satisfaction. Honkey tonk woman. Sympathy for the devil .If you start me up .She's so cold .Wild horses . She comes in colors just a few .Saw them on the ED SULLIVAN SHOW In 64 .Great Band there still here .GREAT JOB LADIES .
All three of you are adorable and cool af. Great reaction. This is subdued for Jagger. Anything live from them from 1968 through 1979 is so good. Are y'all from anywhere near my part of the country (North Carolina side of the Smoky Mountains)? ❤❤❤
Lisa Fischer was the singer's name. She is a respected r'n'b singer in her own right as well as a backing singer for the Stones and the late Luther Vandross.
I love you three. If you want to hear a great band, explore the Cowboy Junkies. It's nothing to do with drugs. They're a family band and are wonderful. Try Common Disaster.
Lisa Fischer is the backing singer and I saw her in her own concert in the uk a few years ago and she has the best voice. How Can I Ease the Pain is her main hit which is the best vocal I’ve ever heard and wait for the best note you’ll ever hear!!!!
Kathy, I had the same issue with the song name! I am not a huge fan of the Rolling Stones but Sina Drums just released a cover of their Start Me Up somg that is really good.
I saw them in 1981, Pontiac Silver Dome in Pontiac Michigan. Iggy Pop and Santana opened. I recall that Santana put on the best performance. Iggy Pop got booed and people were throwing there lighters at him. Mick had a Detroit Lions Jersey on if I remember correctly. Santana came out for multiple encores.
IMO Best live version of this song was performed in Cuba - that female soloist Brought-Down-The-House with her performance. *"The Rolling Stones - Gimme Shelter ('Havana Moon' Live)"*
Ba boom! Mick would have been c!ose to 70! Dang if I could move like that, even when I was 20! I am 65 now and can hardly move at all.😊 Good review ladies!
It's an amazing react and performance, love me some Rolling Stones! Please react to “Humble Pie - I Don’t Need No Doctor - Live Midnight Special, 1973”
There is an excellent version of Gimme Shelter on RUclips which is U2 featuring Fergie, Will.I.Am and Mick Jagger. I recently mentioned to you about the Coldplay Fix You with Michael J Fox in a wheelchair well about 8 years ago before Michael was as poorly as he is now he performed Johnny B Good and Earth Angel live on stage with Coldplay, it's up on RUclips if you want to catch up with it. I love the fella just wandering around checking out the fridge it keeps it real ❤ 🇬🇧
Easily my favorite Stones song. The girl who sang the "Rape, Murder" lines was Merry Clayton, the sister of Sam Clayton, the Conga Player in the band Little Feat. When The Stones were recording "Gimme Shelter" in Los Angeles, Merry was called in the middle of the night to sing, and went to the studio in her night clothes, and amazed Mick Jagger in the process.
gm, I said Merry Clayton sang it on the album version, please read my original comment. I only saw The Stones live back in 1989 on the "Steel Wheels" tour. But the audio was so bad at the show, half the time I couldn't even tell what song they were playing. Thanks for the info on Lisa Fischer.
Mick's 80 years and still Rockin' . Nobody can strut like Mick. He's simply, the best. They had a 2024 tour.
Stayed way too long
I saw them this year lol 😊
R.I.P. Charlie.🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁😎
Love This Song Has To Be One Of The Greatest Songs Ever Written.
LMAO the look on Kathy's face from 12:30 on while she was mesmerized by Jagger's moves. "Oh I was lookin''! Priceless!
It's so generous of you ladies to let homeless persons having a pick from your fridge. They do need love and compassion. :_)
I would guess he is the one that paid to fill it.
😂
hahaha brilliant
Jagger and Richards are referred to as the glimmer twins. Richard’s is a MONSTER player and a real character. Class A Rock Stars.
Love it when you are watching and talking about proper music by one of the greatest bands ever and has been for 6 decades..He is definitely singing Gimme Shelter. I saw them live in Glasgow 1973 and 1976. Great reaction from you 3 girls. He was very subdued here.
Hey Ladies! The STONES!!! Enough said.👍😎
Another banger ladies! The Rolling Stones never disappoint! Oh Yeah Kathy, His moves had you jumping in your seat! lol BA-BOOM!!
Lol
The Lisa Fisher solo is awesome....one of the most powerful seen on stage....ever...
Born and raised and still live in same town where Keith and mick was born and finally recently we had a statue of the pair erected in our town square seen them 7 times.. a great reaction girls and hope to see more stones on your channel
Jagger is a beast. Brilliant
Man I remember that brother. I have a big collection of Mad magazines.
2 things donnas face and dad getting a beer wonderful

The four main members of the band were all senior citizens at this time. I have this song as my ringtone!
Tina Turner taught Mick some moves back in the day they were good friends.
The lyrics are very profound an antiwar song:-
Ooh, a storm is threatening
My very life today
If I don't get some shelter
Ooh yeah I'm gonna fade away
War, children
It's just a shot away
It's just a shot away
War, children
It's just a shot away
It's just a shot away
Ooh, see the fire is sweepin'
Our streets today
Burns like a red coal carpet
Mad bull lost its way
War, children
It's just a shot away
It's just a shot away
War, children
It's just a shot away
It's just a shot away
Rape, murder, it's just a shot away
It's just a shot away
Rape, murder, yeah, it's just a shot away
It's just a shot away
Rape, murder, it's just a shot away
It's just a shot away
Mmm, a flood is threatening
My very life today
Gimme, gimme shelter
Or I'm gonna fade away
War, children
It's just a shot away
It's just a shot away
It's just a shot away
It's just a shot away
It's just a shot away
I tell you love, sister
It's just a kiss away
It's just a kiss away
It's just a kiss away
It's just a kiss away
It's just a kiss away
Kiss away, kiss away
This is my favorite Rolling Stones song. I used to sing Rolling Stones songs in a band in college in the mid 60’s.
Rolling Stones, Rules🎉🎉🎉🎉
Without a doubt, Mick is the most famous frontal in rock and roll history.
Jim Morrison wasn't too shabby either.

Thanks
5:58 I like how Lisa cuffs Mick on the head as she runs out lol
Lisa Fischer was one of the backup singers for the Rolling Stones for many years and this was her moment to shine during the concert. A great voice, a great song and a great band.
My personal favourite is paint it black.
If you want to check out Jagger moving on stage, I recommend the original music video for Jumpin Jack Flash (1968), also the live version of Sympathy for the Devil from the Rock n Roll Circus in 1968, and Out of Control live in 1997 in Buenos Aires.

The Stones are still bringing it! Just saw them last month in Santa Clara, CA (with both my 17 year old son and 31 year old daughter!) touring for their latest album...
I bet it was colder weather. Lisa had a cape on and Mick had a long sleeved shirt (instead of bare). They are older than they used to be...
Me and the wife saw them live at the Ohio State Football stadium in Columbus, Ohio, about 15 years ago. We were about row 30 at the field level, amazing view, especially when part of the stage extended out to about row 20 and Mick walked to the end of it while singing. love mick's energy as always.
Great British band .. one of the best bands in history.
GOOD MORNING GIRLS🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Definitely one of my favourite stones songs. Love them and my parents were so happy when i started digging them yhem in the mid sixties ❤❤. My favourite is Shattered. Check that one out please! True legends of rock and roll!!!!!!!!!!!!! Great reaction ladies!❤❤❤

See Mick with other artists
SuperHeavy was a one-off supergroup project consisting of Mick Jagger, Joss Stone, Dave Stewart, A. R. Rahman, and Damian Marley .
First single called Miracle Worker
You go girls....❤❤❤❤
Mick is one of a kind. The late great Charlie watts is on drums. Jimmy Fallon can sing and talk with mick's strutting. The band members are hitting their 80s
the song was inspired by The Murder by the Hells Angels at a concert in Cal. I think it was at Altamont
I was there.
Crazy...
Love your channel you ladies are a riot
Thank you
Great t shirts too! Long live rock and roll. Oooops! Thats a song by Rainbow.
Great reaction ladies! And yes, you really, really should see more RS live videos. Mick is even more animated in them than this particular video. You will really enjoy them all.
Sympathy for the Devil--Live !!!-He turns into something- he goes into a crazy dancing mode.
That ladies was, a LIVE performance from their Bridges To Babylon tour. No promo video. I own the DVD!
This song from the Let It Bleed album (Nov '69) finished off the 1960s. Their first album in 1964 was so innocent, and it seemed fitting that they saw out the decade with something gritty.
You guys are too fun sometimes 😊
need to do the studio version. Have seen them in concert a few times and simply amazing.
Love you guys...look for the all female band rendition in the states.its the best rendition of this song, legendary ... maybe 10 year's ago?
Greatest Rock n Roll Band in the World
By far
Mick is 81,years old and still touring and rocking out He joined the band when he was 19
I got to see the Stones only one time in all their years of touring, it was back in 1981. It was outdoors in Buffalo, NY, and there were at least 60k people in that stadium, probably more. Check out the studio version of this when you have a chance. The beginning has a very hypnotic quality, I find.

Every VET relates to this song - AIRBORNE - Saw them in in Germany for the Tatoo You tour.
These cute ladies seem to be getting cuter. (Always loved this song)
Thanks for the great reaction. I agree, it seemed somewhat subdued. I prefer their live version in Cuba (Havana Moon) video, when Cuba finally got first chance to see the Stones live. Excellent concert, and amazing crowd. Thank you.

She has a beautiful voice
Lisa Fischer was the singer's name. She is a respected r'n'b singer in her own right as well as a backing singer for the Stones and the late Luther Vandross.
It's why they are called the greatest Rock& Roll band in the world.
I love you three. If you want to hear a great band, explore the Cowboy Junkies. It's nothing to do with drugs. They're a family band and are wonderful. Try Common Disaster.
They did do a halftime at the super bowl, steelers vs Arizona i believe. It was in Detroit. Maybe vs the seahawks
Havana Moon is a concert movie from Cuba. Midnight Rambler any live version.
Saw them with zz top Dallas cotton bowl 1981.
I gotta move like Jagger... Line from a song from Marroon 5 🙂
That's Lisa Fischer, he mentioned her name as she makes that song, just as the original Merry Clayton made the studio version
No, you are right
Mick gets down ...and the Stones rock!
Grand Funk cover is great too
Classic period
Honky Tonk Women, Sympthay For the Devil, Jumpin Jack Flash, Satisfaction. All classics from the stones
IMO Best live version of this song was performed in Cuba - that female soloist Brought-Down-The-House with her performance.
*"The Rolling Stones - Gimme Shelter ('Havana Moon' Live)"*
Great song-they have allot of them-they were suppose to be a bad boy version of the Beatles. Thanks for Reacting ..
They outlast the Beatles by decades - in material, performance and showmanship
Ba boom! Mick would have been c!ose to 70! Dang if I could move like that, even when I was 20! I am 65 now and can hardly move at all.😊 Good review ladies!
Hes got moves like jagger
It's an amazing react and performance, love me some Rolling Stones! Please react to “Humble Pie - I Don’t Need No Doctor - Live Midnight Special, 1973”

There’s a great Rolling Stones, Gimme Shelter video on RUclips with Lady Gaga as the guest singer.
Kathy pays attention! HA!
You should watch The Rolling Stones documentary called Gimme Shelter....You won't be disappointed
You could also try tumbling dice.
Need to play the video with the lyrics and chords...this is a classic...
Lulu is right. Maroon 5 has a song called Moves Like Jagger. Mick is famous for his stage presence.
The spider and the fly
Easily my favorite Stones song. The girl who sang the "Rape, Murder" lines was Merry Clayton, the sister of Sam Clayton, the Conga Player in the band Little Feat. When The Stones were recording "Gimme Shelter" in Los Angeles, Merry was called in the middle of the night to sing, and went to the studio in her night clothes, and amazed Mick Jagger in the process.
Not sure who the girl is in this live video, but it is NOT Merry Clayton.
Merry Clayton is who sings that part on the album version. This was Lisa Fischer (who sang that part during many live versions).
gm, I said Merry Clayton sang it on the album version, please read my original comment. I only saw The Stones live back in 1989 on the "Steel Wheels" tour. But the audio was so bad at the show, half the time I couldn't even tell what song they were playing. Thanks for the info on Lisa Fischer.
I suspect their point was that there is no shelter from thermonuclear war. Enjoy your reviews.
I believe that a homeless charity was started by this song in the UK called Shelter
Happy Election US Day 😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Maroon 5 Sang ,Moves Like Jagger, listen to it., its great.
If you want to see a young Mick Jagger. Check out Sympathy For The Devil from the film Rock And Roll Circus. It’s astonishing!
OUT OF CONTROL Havana Moon live in Cuba….Jagger in full flow
For moves try "Start me up"
I believe they added backup singers as needed later in their career to fatten their sound....
