Ya, they were insane. They had 5 in a row in the 50s and then only a few years after that from 1965 to 1979 the Canadiens won 10 IN A SPAN OF 14 YEARS!!!
And they won cups in every full decade of the 20th century they played since their founding in 1909. Best all-time winning percentage in the NHL as well, by multiple percentage points. The only real mark against them (other than the extremely lame "lol, hockey's not popular") is that they're in a current title drought approaching 30 years. But I also feel like "degrees" are worth considering in this kind of discussion. Like, among North American pro sports, they trail only the Yankees in titles, and they lead the next-most-decorated teams (Lakers and Celtics) by 6, leading every other franchise by double digits. 6 titles is a massive achievement in its own right...that's the entirety of what the Steelers have done, and they actually got consideration in this top 5 for that. That's the DIFFERENCE between the Habs and the Lakers/Celtics. I say that earns them a bit of leeway in terms of recent struggles.
Like the Packers, the Celtics “dynasty” is very heavily skewed: 16 titles in 30 seasons (including 11 in 13 seasons) between 57-86…only 1 in the other 44 seasons.
Isn't the 11 in 13 the greatest dynasty ever? In terms of winning? Lakers are far better in the modern NBA, but you can't ignore 11 in 13 years even tho it was 8 teams and a less skilled league. There were a lot of good players outside the Celtics. I agree the celtics are overrated as an org due to their past success, but that past success is clearly more dominant than the Lakers ever were
@@RafaelOliveira-gb3ms I agree with everything you said. I think I would say that the Celtics WERE a dynasty From the time they drafted Bill Russell until Larry Bird hurt his back, so I guess one could say that mad dog is right, being that the list is the most storied franchises/greatest dynasties in the HISTORY of pro sports. I guess that the question is not completely clear, though. Maybe “most storied” and “greatest dynasties in history” are not exactly the same thing. For example, due to their general lack of success before and after Tom Brady, the Patriots aren’t the most storied, but I would probably say that the Patriots dynasty over 18 seasons, from 2001-18, with 6 Super Bowl wins in 9 appearances, is greater than either the Packers or the Steelers as far as greastest dynasties in HISTORY.

The main reason the Celtics fell off after Larry Bird is because their All-Star Reggie Lewis died in 1993 at age 27. Combine that with the fact that the Celtics drafted Len Bias in 1987 who was seen by the entire country as the future cornerstone of the Celtic franchise post-Larry Bird and Len Bias died at 22 years old. It’s been months since Max was kicked off of First Take and it blows my mind how much Stephen A does for other people and how little he did for Max
He did bring Max on the show everyday for like 4 years...
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 stephen A was stretch out his arms and legs like he wanted to slap some sense into Mad Dog over his list
@@klenohara3724 yeah almost like he had a contract as the co host or something crazy right 😅🤪
@@cemoorepape4412 bro no Lakers cmon now he would’ve had the right 😂
Y'all ride Max like a rodeo show 😂
The high five got me dead😂😂
These two make for great television. They have great chemistry.
I love the way Stephen a becwziting to as skip says “UNLEASH ON THIS”
When Molly said “you lost me” I felt that
Honestly most ppl don't care what Molly thinks because she really don't know sports. Hockey not a popular sport in our community or Hispanic but it has a rich history.
Someone: good morning
Molly: you lost me
Mad Dogg is right tho. The Montreal Canadiens have the most retired jerseys and second most championships right behind the Yankees with 24.
Every franchise he listed is legit. The problem is his frame of reference is older so people don’t agree.
This list sucks
I´m sorry, but I don´t see an argument for including the Packers and excluding the Patriots. (I think neither of them should be included)
True because I think the patriots with Tom Brady had a better two decades than most if not all NFL franchises ever. Then again I grew up during that time period.
The lakers & celtics are equal. They're like a marriage, like Federer and Nadal. They should always be mentioned together
There are no Dynasty's today except for maybe the Warriors.
5:16 it’s like watching 2 kids argue and I love it 😂
You have a tiny brain, and like to watch keys jingle
Madd Dogg-“I’m old enough to know that!”..
He really underestimating the vice grip the Habs had on hockey for a long time and I’m not even a fan of them. 25 Stanley cups is insanity. Maybe they just didn’t hear about them in the states. And Stephen A might be the only guy in the world who likes bettman as commissioner
Lakers period
Kareem..Magic..Worthy..West..Baylor..Chamberlain...Shaq...Kobe...5 of the top 10 players all time were Lakers...Mikan even 3 peated with Lakers. Come on man.
“You lost me” 🤣😂 after he said the Canadiens.
They have 24 Stanley Cups and they retired more jerseys in any team in the history of professional sports because they have a lot of legends
@@Saabkenny04 Oh ok 😂
People who think the Habs don't bong on this list don't kmow sports apart from dribble ball
Canadiens should actually be 2nd behind the Yankees. 24 Stanley Cups, 113 years of history and legends… I don’t care the sport, The Montreal Canadiens are one of the most storied franchise in america and the world. Saying otherwise is just blatantly ignorant.
@@fil12x thank you your proving my point I agree 100%
Lakers not on the list and reactions.
This is hilarious.
1st I've heard Hockey get mentioned.
Then u don’t know spots
@@purpleimpactstrategies7417 He's right that hockey never gets mentioned, that's all he said.
These two are great together. I don't even really follow sports outside of highlights but they are entertaining.
Hartford Whalers
One thing I appreciate about mad dog is that he isn't afraid to acknowledge the other sports. It's nice to not see only nba or nfl topics. It's a big reason why I stopped watching the show.
What you only come here for 2 major sports they talked about?
Lakers should actually be #1. Since the year of my birth (1980), 11 championships won. Celtics with only 4 since 1980 and 1 in the last 35 years. Yankees, 49ers, and Spurs with only 5. I hate the Lakers but they should be #1.
Lmfao not only are you a degenerate gambler but you don’t know your basketball history. LA Lakers have 12 championships total thats it. Minneapolis lakers a completely different franchise with different owners have 5. Do the Baltimore Ravens take credit for the championships that they won as the Cleveland Browns? Buss bought the team and took credit for championships that they had no part in.
@@ryanb9305 Yea, and the Celtics won all those championships when there was like 4 teams in the NBA
Lakers not over the Yankees, everyone knows that.
@@ryanb9305 The Minneapolis Lakers moved to Los Angeles. It’s the same franchise just different owners.
@@ryanb9305 same franchise different city are the ravens the Baltimore browns?
We have 24 cups actually, but mad respect for including the Montreal Canadiens on this list
How could the Canadiens not be mentioned?
I love the fact that Mad Dog put the Packers in his top 2.
What they done since 2000 🤔
I´m sorry, but I don´t see an argument for including the Packers and excluding the Patriots. (I think neither of them should be included)
Is this comment section stupid they won the first super bowl won back to back was winning before there was a super bowl they are og winners
aye 😂😂😂😂 that "You Lost" from molly got me 😂😂😂
Not having the lakers on this list just goes to show how crazy mad dog really is and I like it.
He got Mad Dog with that last take The Celtics got 17 titles and the Lakers has what ? 🤣🤣🤣 Mad Dog was done
"The Boston Celtics have how many titles?"
"17."
"HOW MANY TITLES DO THE LAKERS HAVE?! HOW MANY TITLES DO THE LAKERS HAVE?!"
LOL.
and 11 were ANCIENT
12 total titles
@@ryanb9305 Canadiens have 24 titles so there more than twice as storied lol.
17 y'all get it right
@@aaronst.pierre3080 no one knows the Canadians outside of Hockey fans how storied can they be you have people that don't watch basketball that know the Lakers
1) Yankees
2) Lakers
3) Alabama🏈
4) Patriots
5) Canadiens
Abama isn't a franchise it's a college football team fool
@@palimo3653 Do you even understand the definition of "Franchise"? A contractual right of ownership over a logo, players, etc. I can go to any sports store and buy a Jersey or cap for Bama Football if I wanted to! Don't argue when you don't have the facts fool
@@MrMac-zk5tv youre right but this is for professional sports, not college. But hey, I like the curve ball ya threw into the mix.
@@TheManWhoFlys22 maybe this fool doesn’t understand the definition of “professional” so break it down for him
🤣🤣🤣 I love these 2 together
That gasp by Stephen A at 00:58 😂😂
Any list like this has to start with Yankees and Lakers at 1 and 2 everyone else come after.
And Cowboys need to come before any other NFL team.
Perkins is right all you do is talk about LeBron and the Lakers
Even Nick Wright and Shannon Sharpe also.
Not having the Lakers there is blasphemous
Lakers only have 11 real chips (5 in Minneapolis and one in disneyworld) , there is Levels to this
I love these two. Thanks Stephen A. Smart man
Bruhhh that ending tho 😂😂
I think it's a fair list, I honestly believe most ppl especially in the black & Hispanic community would disagree because most of us don't watch hockey nor care for the sport. Its not a popular sport in our community but doesn't mean it's not great. its a difficult sport to play and very physical. I do agree with Chuck that they do have the best championship trophy.
So American Football, Baseball and basketball is Only Sports is Popular?
I love your comment very respectful to everyone, great perspective on it.
When SAS heard LaFluer I died😂😂
I mean he's one of the most important players of the 20th century
He picked either Lakers or Celtics, I respect it but maybe could’ve made a little more room
He living in the moment. Celtics only have won 1 in the Last 36 years
As a Packers fan, we don't deserve to be on this list.
@@anthonys9892 possibly 2….
@@izzyd3613
Then last 35 years that's not being dominant franchise
Love this duo man. Mad dog doesn’t make down even tho he gives history lessons with most of his takes 🤣
these lists are gold between these 2 .
max was good but mad dog matches stephen a smith's energy!
Imagine having an issue with a team with 25 rings being last on a most stories franchises with
Hockey does not get its flowers on espn. I doubt Stephen a or Molly could name all the teams
No one cares about hockey
@@ericdejonge4794 I can name 5 maybe
@Lordeverfall100 and what exacty does that have to do with being a storied dynasty. NOTHING. Not to mention the canadiens are a billion dollar franchise. Its a sport that isnt for divas though so i get yall dont watch it.
They sucked too much to beat Tampa to get a 25th one
These two need to be on this show together permanently. They are absolutely great to watch.
Thank you for acknowledging the NHL!
Mad Dogg is Stephen A's sports caster soul mate ... I love these two together
“How many titles do the Lakers have!?!?”
(Stevie jumps up and down like a two year old)
Lakers only have 11 real chips (5 in Minneapolis and one in disneyworld) , there is Levels to this
Lmfao
Objective list coming thru (that includes every club that is debatable for top 5):
1) Real Madrid
2) New York Yankees
3) Montreal Canadiens
4) Los Angeles Lakers
5) Boston Celtics
6) Manchester United
7) Liverpool
I wouldn’t put Manchester over ac Milan
You got to put the Lakers and the Cowboys I hate the Cowboys but in the 70s and 90s they was dominant
Just like Stephen A hates the cowboys man.
Aint a better franchise than steelers or packers, and you can argue 49ers.
Lmaooo these 2 are pure entertainment. Love to see it.
SAS stomping in the end had me rolling on the floor
