- Like everyone these days, Toyota sells a whole lot of SUVs. But among all of the RAV4s, Highlanders, and 4Runners, the Sequoia tends to get a little lost, despite being their biggest and most capable utility. But, this Tundra-based full-framed 3-row ute is all-new for 2023, and looking to stand taller than ever!

Those side mirrors are very strange. Looks like they are bigger than necessary.
Our test vehicle was equipped with the optional tow mirrors. The standard mirrors are smaller and less obstructive.
@@Motorweek they don't move in when not towing ?
@@Motorweek thanks for the info!
Made me think of Bullwinkle.
@@ZombieDew360 Hahaa
I was thinking The Flying Nun.
I love that Motor Week still has the same guy after all these years. He has a great TV/Radio Voice!
Side view mirrors make it look like Micky mouse. What MPG hit do those add?
No it doesn't
Damn that behemoth is fast! Very impressive for a huge brick 🧱 on wheels!
I wonder if it gets 14 MPG like the Tundra was getting in a road test?
But those side view mirrors…that killed it for me…all you are missing is Santa and the rest of the reindeer’s
These tow mirrors are optional.
Am i the only one who keeps noticing the enormous side mirrors?
Tow mirrors
18 wheeler size.
@@videoprotectedcom 😄
@@timsautovision6145 😆
14.2 in the quarter mile is impressive. That's the same ET as a stock Mustang LX 5.0 from the late 80's to early 90's.
Agreed. The braking distance of 116 feet is even more impressive.
Just noticed those side mirrors reminded me of bullwinkle’s antlers 🫎🙊🐒
SR5 used are already going for almost $90k. Insane
It’s wayyy beyond crazy. SR5 is the base trim that starts at around $58k brand new (I think). The fact that used base trims are going for virtually double the price are the reason I don’t think I see any of these new ones almost at all in person.
I haven’t heard of any markups yet but after seeing used prices, there’s no way they don’t exist.
Only idiots are buying it for that. Sit out. Wait a year. Probably financing it for 7% for eight years.
It makes not including the Land Cruiser 300 redundant, because of this kind of issue.
I agree. I still haven’t seen any new sequoias on the road. For me it makes no sense in trading my ‘18. I’ll keep her for a while.
@@mr.c493i’ve literally only seen a few in my area of the country. but not a whole lot
During that slalom the sequoia swayed so much my house was swaying with it.
lmaoo😂😂😂 yoo
Dude it is a truck not a race car
@@allentoyokawa9068 great observation. You must be a detective IRL
They should change the name to Jolly Roger, because only a pirate would approve of that much sway.
This vehicle looks a lot better in person. It has a powerful presence. It doesn't seem gargantuan like some of its rivals. Great fit and finish. To go along with the Toyota reliability and ruggedness.
Great fit and finish?😂
Ever heard of the car care nut? He’s a Toyota tech and he said the materials and the fit and finish are just not good
@@naveenthemachine I'm only basing it on appearances.
What's with the side mirrors? They look so out of place.
Those tow mirrors look so silly 😂
I actually like it more than I ever thought. Its more rugged with luxury touches then some others that try to go the luxury route but it is quite nice. I could live with this 100%
Anyone else impressed with that V6 making 437 horses??
583 lb-ft as well. The numbers are the combined numbers with the hybrid's electric motors. With Mirrors that wide, you'd better be towing once in a while!
RIP V8
Assisted with an electric motor.
That's insane
@@CACressida Still gonna sound like a sewing machine. I bet the V6 in the Acura MDX type S would sound better.
Does this car comes with antlers instead of side mirrors?
We’re all agreed then. Those mirrors have to go.
Or at least retract.
Or simply don't order the tow mirrors (which are needed to extend that far). Problem solved, banshee.
I have seen this big moma in Orange county california in military green with black rims also in a nice sky blue and an orange peel. It looks better than the cadillac escalator
Those side mirrors looks ridiculous. Looks like moose antlers. 😂😂😂😂
License plate will read "BullWinkle"
Tow mirrors.... use common sense
@@allentoyokawa9068 sorry, I don't drive trucks nor do I own one.
I love it! But those side mirrors are too big like a Dodge Ram 😢
Haven’t watched Motorweek in over 20 years because they were always pro- domestic brands. Can’t believe it’s the same guy doing the reviews and surprised he actually praised Toyota and they reliability.!!
That fold down throw row 😳
It is a total fail. They did this for cost cutting. it is circa 1994.
I know it is a HUGE car... but all i see looking at it are the side mirrors
It looks ridiculous. 😂😂😂😂
You know you’re living in bizarro world when they say $60,000 is a lot of SUV for the money.
😂🤣😂🤣😂 facts tho
lol at the wide mirrors
Makes me wonder why Toyota didn’t made a longer wheelbase Sequoia to compete with the extended full-size SUV’s from GM, Ford and Stellantis.
Probably because that makes the production line more complex... and Toyota (corporate) is extremely sensitive when it comes to messing with their production optimization.
I seen one or two of these in Guelph Ontario Nice looking truck 🛻
I love the way it looks all muscular but then you got the clown side mirrors that throws the whole look off 💩
❤❤❤ MOTORWEEK......HAVE A GOOD DAY EVERYONE ✌️
What am I gonna do with 427hp? I'd rather get double the mpg and less hp.
like it... but the 3rd row seats take up to much space when folded down@3:31 wish there was a 2 row opt for us who have no need ,want or will ever have a use for the 3rd row ,I want payload ,cargo space and towing
Fantastic 3.5L turbo hybrid? What is the rating framework for "fantastic"? There have been plenty of issues thus far with the Tundara. Does "fantastic" address reliability?
My wallet left my pocket while I was watching this video 😂😂😂. I’ll buy this after my marriage. Wife’s going to insist she picks the color. Pray for me gentlemen.
good luck brother 🫡
she want pink. then you have a muscle barbie car
I thought it was a pick up truck because of the extended side mirrors. Get the mirrors close to the body and it will look more handsome.
How much des it wieght??
1:36 a v6 never sound like a v8.
That’s why he said “almost”
@@xwarped83 A v6 does not almost sound like a v8.
@@blackericdenice to some people it might.
@@xwarped83 Yes you are 100% right. A lot of so-call car guys think a loud v6 sound like a v8.
@@xwarped83 I'm 52 years old and I've heard a lot of v6 engines.
Great vehicle, but they need to drop the commercial side mirrors. It looks yota is doing a Dumbo collab w/Disney. Also the Suburban is more practical w/greater space around the same price.
Those side mirror made me laugh
Damn you could fit a car seat on those mirrors
The fact that these overly powerful, huge SUVs will be driven by distracted soccer moms doesn't bode well for our collective road safety
Asian design.....
Other road test reviews have said the ride quality is busy and trucklike.
Third row is stupid based on live axle. I don’t know why they thought it was worth it. We are looking at something like this because we have a big family, but the Tahoe is much more comfortable.
Those side mirrors make it look like Shrek!!
They could have done a better job designing the side view mirrors.. it’s not a pick up truck..
I like the rugged styling inside and out. Blue or red please. I haven't seen very many though.
Cool
So the difference between 4Runner trd pro and base sequoia is a few thousand. Ty I’ll take the sequoia
The overall cargo room is a little small, too bad.
IMO, it was a failure of Toyota not making the new Sequoia's seats fold flat like the previous generation. I realize the battery is in the way, however, Toyota engineers should have come up with a meaningful solution to this problem. We fold the seats in our 2nd Gen Sequoia all the time. Not sure I could live without that option on a daily basis. The 3rd Gen Sequoia has lost some of its versatility as a result of this. Toyota also should have incorporated more high strength 4943 aluminum in the construction, to include the chassis. At least they brought back the solid rear axle!!
If you'd like to see more compromises, check The Car Care Nut for the mechanical changes. I want to like this new rig, but Toyota makes me wonder what Im getting into, lately.
Those mirrors are obnoxious. Otherwise great job
Is it me or the side view mirrors are an eye-sore 🤨
they are optional. Pay attention.
86 cubic feet with everything folded down is pretty disappointing for such a ginormous vehicle. My old 03 Durango (midsize Dakota-based) has 88 cubic feet of space.
Those side mirrors give me Dumbo vibes
What’s with the mirrors !!!!
Front end view with those mirrors looks like a moose 😄
20.5 mpg is way better than any previous gen behemoth Sequoia. Wonder what the amazing Toyota hybrid powertrain would do?
that was with the hybrid powertrain. it’s standard on the Sequoia now
wtf are those side mirrors 😂
The best Toyota ever designed and built!
😂😂😂😆🤣🤣🤣
Are you joking?
Will sell like hotcakes as usually.
Those towing mirrors look disproportionally large, an SUV with ears or what?
20 mpg combined, chevy suburban really need to improve gas mileage
I miss Toyota’s that looked like Toyota’s
Very good looking large SUV suitable for any road trips and daily duty. It’s a TOYOTA
The design looks very musculine, but whats with those door mirrors😂 looks like moose antlers 🤣🤣
What's up with the Dodge tow mirrors!? 😂 WTF.
They are tow mirrors You already acknowledged that much. Did you have a seizure mid-post?
The type of vehicle everyone needs...not.
WRONG
Those side mirrors look ridiculous.
That gas mileage is terrible, especially given that it’s hybrid
Side view mirrors are not impressive
5.5 seconds in that with a gas motor? That's insane.
Those rear view mirrors sliply way too ugly😅
The cargo configuration is laughable and nearly useless with a chest high lift over height and uneven floor.
Full size suv with mid size suv capacity
Nailed it. not sure who they are marketing to. Maybe the 13% of 4-runner buyers that want a marginally bigger interior?
Those mirrors are a real hazard to cyclists, parked vehicles, oncoming vehicles, pedestrians...
Fast in a straight line.. Wow! The handling looks terrible compared to anything else in the class.
No it is not
70k? Gtfoh lol.
The reason it can stop so well yet corners like a truck isn't simply because it's built like a truck, it's because of the dumb "Moose Test" where it was uncovered(after reputation damage was done)that the testers deliberately tried getting Toyotas on two wheels so they can have a forced shock value story about lack of safey even when it was assistant the big Toyotas wanted to stay planted. It is because of this that Toyota in response throws in a healthy dash of understeer, even though no one realistically is trying to fully exploit spring frequency & flip cars IRL..
Either way those Toyotas had still passed other more official regulatory testing, but thanks to the Moose "*Test"ers, we now have to suffer poorer handling Toyota's, since folks don't know the so called testers actually repeated the test over & over trying harder & harder to force the reaction they wanted & Toyota's overreaction was to put in so much understeer that their trucks & SUVs feel sluggish AF cornering
I can't find anything to back up your claim that the moose test people are deliberately trying to get Toyotas on two wheels.
@@Tuppoo94 there was a report that came to light on it maybe a decade ago, I'll see if I can still find it
Shout out Pixel Gang.
is it just me or the side mirrors look like shit? why are they outward so much?
I love how I know exactly what road they’re driving on
The true gas mileage is 16.5/17
Looks like dumbo moving down the road… note to self don’t option the tow mirrors…
Mirror wth shi t 🤣🤣
Those mirrors look stupid
They Shrunk the third row seat!! Why??
Innova Hycross Grandpa 😂 😂
Marked up to over $100,000 in the DC area. Insanity. This truck is mediocre.
Limited for the win
Hi
Rather have a V8... that TT V6 isn't gonna last as long as a V8... and enjoy replacing that hybrid pack when it does fail, and it WILL...
dude it is Japanese, will will last JUST as long, and the hybrid pack WILL NOT fail
@@allentoyokawa9068 they ALL fail... some quicker than others, but they will eventually...
Looks like a tow truck.
NOT
Looks like a moose
Overpriced like everything else
Ugly side mirrors
Where is the land cruiser ? I don't like it cause of the long side mirrors , to many truck features ...
Land Cruiser is gone…and those are optional tow mirrors.
@@MPMeterman wow they really killed off the Cruiser I know it was a rumor 2022 was the last .. Thanks man
@@kennethwilliams857 gone in the US, not importing it here anymore.
The sequoia is a gigantic catastrophe of an suv. There’s not a single way it excels over the competition.
That third row is atrocious. What a fail
You are a fail
I'd love to have a new Sequoia but the prices are ridiculous, much like most new SUVs and trucks.
Needs a 6 inch lift and 35 inch tires!!!
Throw this away and start over. The mirrors and price tag are ridiculous.
