Toyota missed the boat with the 3rd row. Use independent rear suspension like Expedition, Suburban, Wagoneer and place the hybrid battery where it doesn't use up interior space.

Thank you for these reviews! It is so nice to hear a variety of perspectives, and you present the information in such an enjoyable way! There are not a lot of good SUV reviews from the family perspective (or a person-who-doesnt-love-driving-large-vehicles perspective!), and most car reviews make me want to fall asleep, so thank you, truly!

I just got the sr5 two wheel drive and I love it. I traded in my 17 Tundra because the Sequoia has a higher payload and the daily driving mileage will be WAY better. Honestly, I never used the 4 wheel drive in the Tundra and the comfort and style of the Sequoia can't be denied. I'm glad that you think the sr5 trim is the best, I totally agree, it feels upscale and it's way more affordable than the higher trims.

Just tried the 2023 Sequoia a few days ago, I can honestly say that the new $80,000 Toyota SUV is the old $40,000 SUV, in term of quality and the premium feel. The $80,000 SUV used to be the large luxury SUV just a few years ago, isn't it? btw, I can't even sit straight in the 3rd row, WTH.......

The price is just ridiculously high. I would give credit to Toyota for front design though. It looks modern. But taillights are a bit boring and the cargo space is a problem. Third row seats should have folded flat.

  • @americandude3825
    @americandude3825 Год назад +2

    1) 2 cubic feet smaller than a 4Runner. Yes you read that correct.
    2) hybrid only - Toyota told the engineer only way they’d agree to not cancel the sequoia after 2022. Increase profit of get rid of sequoia.
    3) second row doesn’t slide any more.
    3) third row slides. Lost knee room. Slide forward for more cargo, but knees hit back of second row seats. Major major decrease in third row passenger room.
    4) Cargo - 35 cubic feet smaller than the second gen (08-2022)
    5) price increased about $9500 American.
    6) RWD mpg is about 22-24. As soon as you get 4wd it decreases to be almost the same as the gen 2. I get 18.9 mpg cruising highway at 60 mph in my 2008 5.7L RWD.
    6) bumpers are cheap panels
    7) arm rest is very flimsy and cheap
    8) if you want cargo and passenger room get a gen two or wait for the grand highlander in 2023.
    9) the gen two sequoia is 15” shorter than a expedition max but only one cubic foot less of cargo.
    10) made in America so it’s better than ford gm and ram.

I love watching your family reviews, you guys are all great! I wanted to chime in as someone who is part of a family of 4. I very recently went to a toyota dealership in my area, I live in Washington State, to look into my upcoming options at replacing my Tundra Lease that is up in March. I would consider myself more knowledgeable than the average person when it comes to cars, the car industry, and watching all of your reviews amongst many others. I understand the market is wild right now, I understand it is hard to find newer vehicles like this refreshed Sequoia. However, I was shocked when the dealer I was at, was marking them up 15K, and with a base model Sequoia having 2 packages, they had the car listed for sale at 87K... Either I am more ignorant than I thought, or this dealer is very much taking advantage of the situation. I was even looking at trading in my two cars to that dealer, and buying the Sequoia and another Tesla from them for my commuter car. That is 4 cars they can make profit on. They essentially laughed at me when I suggested I would just build and order the car online as I didnt need any extras, and was not interested in their 15K "Appearance package" aka markup. I was curious how rampant this is, or if it is just my experience? I went to an Acura dealer the next day and noticed a smaller 4k markup on their cars with the exception of the Type S cars having a 10K markup. I can understand those specialty cars, and even a small markup. But almost 90K for an SR5 Sequoia is just nuts.

In Ontario, Canada, they made markups on new vehicles illegal. Dealers cannot legally charge markups on new cars, and I've seen successful prosecutions on some of those that tried. Sidebar - I bought a new 2022 4Runner back in April for $5k under MSRP in a central Ontario small town

I love the styling exterior and interior. The only complaint I have is why they did not go with an independent rear suspension to make that third row more passenger friendly. If they would have done that, this SUV would be very serious competition. Toyota needs to make that a priority in the next redesign. Even make it a mid-design refresh update because the styling is excellent. It doesn't need to be changed. If they make that update, this will be my new SUV. 😀

Brake traction control can be way more effective then LSDs depending on the particular type. A lot of them need to have both wheels on the ground for them to work well as there isn't enough torque for them do lock. And when they do they can control wheel spin as effectively as braking the slipping wheel. That because said some are a lot better then others. A great example would be the e diffs you find Jeeps and Ford and GM SUVs which lock up with clutch packs

Not bad looking, which is surprising coming from Toyota. There seems to be many borrowed styling cues from other manufacturers, including Chevrolet, Ford and even Hyundai. The interior looks decent, but a vehicle this big deserves to have a 24" (or larger) center screen, not a wimpy 14" screen. We won't even mention the teeny tiny 8" display 🤣As for the 24" screen, it was just a joke.

I’m disappointed in the new Sequoia. We are about to buy a new family hauler and i was anxiously waiting for the Sequoia - it was on the top of my list. For me, the cargo area is just a deal breaker. It would drive me crazy. And the third row isn’t big enough now. I don’t think the hybrid setup is worth the trade offs. The other issue, in my area at least, is the stupid markup dealers are putting on them. For a car that has a lot of unfavorable side effects to have a minimal hybrid gas savings benefit, having to shell out extra money for market adjustment is like the icing on the cake for me.

I am considering a 2023 Sequoia SR5 or 2023 Sienna base model, for my wife and my long highway (700-3000 mile) drives. Could Micha and your wife please opine ?

Good and short review! Looks very good from outside and has even more options than LX. But unfortunately, assembly quality is very low, big gaps on the back door, painting issues and that window sunshade curtain is disaster. The idea is good but implementation is poor. Also it is highly overpriced at the moment so there are much better choices for that price tag among Germans

Better off get a hybrid highlander or when the grand highlander and save yourself some money on the car and mpg. This sequoia would been better for a Land Cruiser model.

Looks great but the biggest flaw is the rear cargo area. It makes 0 sense why they made it that way. Also getting rid of the sliding rear window is a disappointment.

How has an automotive reviewer not totally ripped Toyota for the lack of IRS and the much improved packaging that comes with it. For Years the Tahoe got lambasted by reviewers for their subpar cargo area and third row seating, Yet somehow, Toyota gets a pass???
Id even forgo the Hybrid system if it allowed for a lower flat load floor, the non turbo v6 is plenty strong enough for me.

I don’t understand how companies find it OK to charge luxury prices for average products. Don’t get me wrong This is a really good solid vehicle in the feature field at that price, they could’ve done a better job on interior material a better design, digital display and a proper massage seats probably a mini fridge option as well. Some people may disagree with my opinion saying that’s saved for a Lexus even the new RX doesn’t have massage seats and a full digital gauges but it top out at $72+. I think it’s fair to say no matter what vehicle or class any car costing as much as the Sequoia does needs the build quality to back up the price and features otherwise powertrain or not or features it’s not worth it.

Except for the trunk, the sequoia is a great full sized suv. The downfall for Toyota may be timing. Gas prices, higher interest rates, and a looming recession may affect its success like the original sequoia.
