It's impossible to recap and not judge behavior a little bit but I think you nailed it! Jen maybe has had some patterns in the past where her picker may be off? (Haven't we all) Hopefully it will all become clear and she finds her person. Even if it doesn't end up being her person, she will be one step closer because she will be learning about herself and what's important to her in a mate.
I thought Sam was a front runner too based on the first episode. Might be biased as I also have two Australian shepherd, but my boyfriend was watching with me and he immediately called it that there was something off about him.
