Sakhon Nakhon is famous for its Ko Khun Pon Yang Kham Beef (โคขุนโพนยางคํา), sometimes called the Kobe Beef of Thailand, it’s one of the best quality and flavor profile beef in Thailand and so I was very excited to finally be at the source.
Mong Yod Neua Yang Restaurant (ร้านโม้งยอดเนื้อย่าง goo.gl/maps/KC...) - I chose to eat at Mong Yod Neua Yang Restaurant (ร้านโม้งยอดเนื้อย่าง), a restaurant that many recommended to me for Thai beef steakhouse style bbq. You can choose your cut of beef, and at this restaurant you get a hot iron griddle over charcoal to cook the beef yourself. Additionally they serve other Ko Khun Pon Yang Kham Beef (โคขุนโพนยางคํา) dishes - Isaan food - like nam tok and laap, made with this special beef.
The owner of the restaurant, you can tell is very passionate about the beef he serves, and he ensures the quality by hand picking it out himself each day from the fresh beef.
It was one of my first times to eat real Ko Khun Pon Yang Kham Beef (โคขุนโพนยางคํา) and I was impressed by the taste and flavor of this Thai grass fed beef. It’s not as soft or butter as Kobe beef or types of Wagyu, but it has a bit of texture and is very flavorful. I also thoroughly enjoyed the experience eating at Mong Yod Neua Yang Restaurant (ร้านโม้งยอดเนื้อย่าง) - it’s laid back, relaxing, and you can choose the places of beef you like. The sauces were also delicious.
Also, when comparing the beef quality to the price, the value is incredible - might be some of the best quality beef for the price that I’ve had.
Total price - 950 THB ($31.49) for everything

My Nana also loved to watch these videos. Her dementia had increased quite drastically by last Christmas but the last time I spent time with her it was watching Mark Wiens and Food Ranger videos. She loved the colours, always saying 'look at all the colors, aren't they so beautiful'. Also helped to get here in the mood to eat as it also got quite difficult at the end, though, the colours didn't quite translate to her plate.

when Mark put the first beef on the girdle and start to move it, I went "Noooooo.... you're ruining it..... it's sticking to the girdle at first but after it caramelize and it will separate from the girdle....." Lol.

Exactly why I always have the house cook it. Unfamiliar grill+unfamiliar meat=familiar burned flavor. Used to be a chain in US called UR Cooks where you cooked your own steak. Seen many high priced disasters there.

We've been to "Best Beef" in Sukhumvit Bangkok. The place is huge, but we still had to take a ticket for a waiting line of an hour. I think we were the only tourists there. Worth the wait.
There are so many amazing Asian innovations that I wish Canada would adopt. Like this restaurant. Cooking your own food in an open air dinning room, relaxing and just cooking steak and other things. Super jealous.

As an ex butcher I can say that the meat is not fresh, but it was frozen before. For a restaurant... I'll pass, I prefer to eat it home. Not worth paying the coin for frozen meat cuts 🤢😵😵

I agreed for a long time. I believe it's his utmost respect for world cultures that keeps him from being critical. However, lol he definitely let's it be known if he doesn't much like certain plates and dishes. Take care!
Problem is 99% of the food he eats,he has the same expression. In this video,he had that expression after eating a clove of garlic and chilli.Sometimes I feel that he is exaggerating or faking his expression.His videos are good to watch.They don't need any exaggeration or faking.
I think he explained in an older video, where he ate rancid meat, that it isn’t the Thai way to criticize or complain.
