When I was in the Navy, I was an E-4, supervising a jacking operation, (jacking up a F-14A to do a drop check) just after I transferred into my unit. This chief, (E-7) who had recently been put in QA decided that he needed to be out there for some reason and was standing there watching. Almost everyone operating the jacks outranked me and at one point the E-6 ordinance guy who was operating one of the jacks said that his had stopped working. I told everyone to stop and lock the jacks down and went over to investigate. Seeing that it needed hydraulic fluid, I turned to ask Bob to go get a HSU, (hydraulic servicing unit) and ended up with this Chief in my face, absolutely SHOUTING at me about not being where I needed to be. I tried to explain, (hell he was there watching the whole thing but he just wanted to shout). He tore me a new butthole right there in front of these people who were supposed to be taking directions from me, just to embarrass me and look like a big shot. Long story short, he ran out of breath, we eventually got the drop check done. Next day I'm called into the Master Chief's, (E-9) office because this Chief wanted to write me up. I explained what happened while Chief Jackass sat there with this smug grin on his face. Master Chief asked me if I'm qualified to supervise a jacking operation and I told him yes, of course. Then he turned to Chief Jackass and asked him the same question. Of course he wasn't because he had been a radar tech when he worked for a living. I got told that I did the right thing and to carry on, he got sent to the ASDO office for the rest of his time there.
Never piss off a E-9. I have a good friend who is a Air Force E-9 retired and sweetest old guy you could ever meet but don't piss him off. My father in law was a Navy E-7 but he worked for a living.

When I lived in an HOA, each section had their own president. I had a dish installed and she came to tell me it was not allowed when I pointed out all the other units with satellite dishes. She walked away sulking.
HOA's are absolutely not allowed to ban or have any say whatsoever concerning satellite dishes. In the US the FCC controls that not HOA, that's a good way to have the Federal government looking into your HOA.
hoa’s are also not allowed to ban outside antennas for Over The Air (OTA) signal reception. However, Amateur (Ham) radio antennas are not allowed. There’s been attempts to rectify this in congress, but the hoa pac have pushed back; despite Ham Radio being a designated Emergency Service in times of disasters.
No HOA rule or board decision can supersede any city, county, state or federal law. For example requiring a green lawn during a drought is a prime example of forcing residents to break the law. And satellite dishes are protected under FCC regulations.
@@jonmendelson1104, true HOAs are not just in the US. Story two was about electricians in Australia. Still doesn’t matter, the warning is the same doesn’t buy property that is in an HOA.

Just to pick a nit, it's against federal law, the FCC just enforces it. The FCC does not get to create laws on its own, it can only enforce laws passed by Congress. In this case the law is Section 207 of the Telecommunications Act of 1996. (yes, looked it up!)
Nope, not true. HOA's have the power/legal authority to regulate where the dishes can be placed in the community. The cannot legally prevent them from being installed just where they can be installed.
@@davidknight3249 Incorrect, they can give you guidelines on preferred locations but if those will not work for installation then they have no power over where it gets installed. www.fcc.gov/consumers/guides/installing-consumer-owned-antennas-and-satellite-dishes
Story two made me laugh. I was doing some work on the main severs for a Project. Emails had been sent out 4 weeks, 2 weeks, 1 day, and the morning of, that the severs would be down for maintenance at 6:00pm. One guy, just like the manager in the story, stomped into the server room to scream at us for not notifying him of the outage. He took it all the way to upper management. Well we did our work and went home. The next day the managers wanted to know why The Jerk was not notified. The IT staff pulled up the emails, The Jerk was on them. The Jerk logged into his account and into his email, see no email from the IT staff. Then our email guy takes the keyboard and mouse from him. Clicked on his spam folder and there are all the emails. Turns out The Jerk had set up a rule too treat all emails from the IT department as spam. He got laugh out of the room by management. On the upside no manager in the company (of 3000) believed any claims of not getting an email again.
Electricians are referred to as "sparky/sparkies" not just in Australia. I worked as a construction rep for 25 years in the PacNW of the US and that title goes back to the 1980s when I first heard it.
Last story as someone else pointed out with a few limits the FCC has ruled the modern dishes and TV antennas upto a certain size CAN NOT be banned or regulated in any manner that precludes using them at least in the US
Military camera story: One of the best officers I ever worked for was a new Ensign (later promoted to LTJG). He was fresh out of engineering school and assigned to the ship I was on. He asked myself and the others in my division to train HIM. He told us that he had a better idea of the theory/book learning of how it worked than we did, but that WE had the practical experience of working with the equipment itself and what it required. It worked out well. Electrical story: Gee, might want to pay actual attention to what's going on in the offices and when. HOA story: Just how stupid can you get? Verbally and physically assaulting someone for doing their job is likely to get the police called and charges filed. And I don't know about the location in this story, but in many states HOAs cannot forbid satellite dishes.
On last story as some have pointed out satellite dishes can't be banned. However they can be restricted to certain areas of a house/lot so long as the dish can get a clear/clean signal Likewise they can't ban antennas or tower antennas-- such as ham radio towers -- for the same reason

For anybody in an Police State.... I mean HOA, a little bit of wisdom. The FCC, under the Telecomunications Act passed the following rule, "Over-the-Air Reception Devices Rule, 47 C.F.R. §1.4000 (the “OTARD Rule”).back in the 90's. Basically, the Gestapo can not forbid the installation of satellite dishes, 1 meter or less, in diameter. They can make rules as to placement, as long as an "appropriate" (meaning a strong enough where you can adequately view the content) signal can be received, if not, it can be placed where ever said signal can be received. Know your rights.
On the HOA going after the satellite dish. If this was in the USA - by FCC rules and the LAWS regarding these things, the HOA CANNOT forbid or stop satellite dishs on the roof or in a place where the home owner can get dish service.
From multiple other US stories about HOA's you can't ban satellite dishes. I think the law was from when cable companies were paying off HOA's to ban them so they can have a monopoly. So the FCC ruled that it's illegal for HOA's to ban satellite dishes
I know next to nothing about HoAs ( Thank GoD , Thor, Zeus and Cthulhu ) but it is my understanding (from listening to far too many of these stories) that at least in the US due to FCC rules HoAs absolutely can not dictate anything about radio antennas or satellite dishes .

Absolutely. The Exact regulation's initials spell OTARD, and that HOA Board is going to get their collective butts handed to them by the FCC.
