I am 62 yrs old and Iron Maiden is the only band that has the power and intensity to give me goose bumps still after all these yrs.....My favorite metal band of all time..
Man I feel for Clive. Took a break to mourn his dad and got sick with MS later on. My dad died from MS, I wouldnt wish that disease on anyone. Life is cruel
This is my favourite Maiden live recording. Everyone's on top form, especially Bruce, before he was exhausted from all the touring. And I prefer Clive over Nicko.
+juan jaramillo although Bruce has become better over the years, and was able from a certain point on to reach the notes of the original recording, this band blows away every future version of Maiden I've heard. I'm talking about sheer power and sound. Well, they were in their twenties, obviously didn't have to save their energies. Clive is amazing, and the band's sound is just.... wow. Also the compositions have evolved a LOT in the years, as has their taste and style. But man, bandwise this is just......... shit, it's sooo good. Only thing is that here someone turned up the gain before putting it on youtube, hence everything sounds overdriven, but the band sound is phenomenal, you can tell anyway.
+Ricardo Langone well not only. As I said, they were in the twenties. Bruce was on his first tour with them. They were young and excited. Sure Clive's drumming has a part in it, but to give the responsibility for the entire sound only to the drummer is unrealistic. They had better guitarsounds there, too. They sound more raw then in later years, more powerful, just a greater overall sounding band.
Clive Burr was the main reason I got into Maiden and subsequently into metal. I hope he's jamming with the best of the rest in rock and roll heaven. RIP, mate! 'Murders in the Rue Morgue' forever!
@@Lordpaice I swear Iron Maiden youtube comments whenever are praising Paul Di’Anno and Clive Burr they talk about their successor like they’re scum or some shit. Genuinely insulting.
I'm almost 64 yrs old and I saw them do this song a year later at the Orange Pavilion in San Bernardino and I thought my skin was melting it was so loud...no other way🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Damn they look young here. And yes - the great Clive Burr on drums immortalized in all his glory. What a groove that guy had. I only saw Maiden once in 1991 but standing right in front of Davey was one of life's treats.
I am 58 today and was 17 in 1981. This is the best song Iron Maiden has done in my opinion. And one of the few good ones.I have to admit that Iron Maiden stands out loved by some and ignored by more. Everyone who is my age born in 1964 likes Judas priest, Scorpions, Saxon, Krokus or Ac-Dc to name a few.. Iron Maiden is a group that you either hate or love.
guitarb3ast7x indeed. As a 17 year I hate this "born in the wrong generation shit. The music will always still exist and there IS good music being made today.
With all due respect to Nicko,I still feel Clive was by far the better drummer, seeing him smile breaks my heart as you can clearly see that’s where he’s happiest and at home….R.I.P. Clive,we love you xxx
still as classic as the day it came out. glad to say the number of the beast tour was my first concert. start with the best and go from there. even better that they opened for Priest that tour.
Adoro Nico ma Clive era semplicemente di un livello superiore .. per il resto , la migliore performance live degli Iron all time . Semplicemente perfetti
Of course it must have been an honor and luck to have witnessed the origins of the best metal band of all time and with that great song interpreted almost like study (also with Clive Burr, what more could you want?) Thanks to whoever uploaded this brilliant piece of history of Maiden.
Awesome, I have to revisit every now and then to remind myself how fucking good Maiden were back then. Funny how they all look like they're in a Spinal Tap video though :D
Yeah, I understand you. It isn't the same like 20-30 years before. I feel fucked that I'm not born in the 1970-80's because if I was I could see and hear real rock and not like the bands these days called Black Veil Brides and others that are trying to be like Iron Maiden, Kiss etc
Hadn't heard this live version with Clive. The song flies and the bass drums on all four...too fast for my taste but incredibly powerful anyways. Why did they cut the end????...the best part for any drummer to hear. Clive's signature ending!!!!
Absolutely fantastic. I love Nicko, his playing and his personality are a real asset to Maiden and they wouldn’t be around now without him. However there is something magical about Clive’s playing that can’t be replaced. While Nicko has moved the band forward, he just doesn’t quite pull off the Clive era songs (especially Run to the Hills, he avoids the 16th note hihats like the plague).
Blink 182, nickel back, radio head, etc. would so kick Iron Maiden's ass...................... at POP! LOL I can't believe what they call and categorize as rock now a days.
I saw them this tour, opening for Scorps. And just as I'd seen earlier road warrior Scorps smoke headliners I thought Maiden did it to them. The entire show was just mind blowing for clean, power metal but those vocals...I've rarely seen anyone with that kind of power in ANY genre of music!
Yes it is. The trio put together is just amazing what they can do. It allows for better solos and smoother riffs, sometimes even riffs that use duel guitar sounds that are just amazing. Got to love The Irons!
They are crazy amazing. Sadly the only band that my dad raised me on that I've seen live is Rush. And that's just it, because they were freaking amazing and it makes me sad that I won't get the chance to experience many others from that era. I'm so jealous of my parents who have seen Iron Maiden many times.
@cookiejarsteeler Agreed. I'm 15 and the first album I ever bought was Brave New World. Since I got my weekend job I've used all of my money to buy anything Maiden I could get (from all of the CD's and DVD's they've released to Nicko's Powerslave Ride Cymbal to a fanclub subscription) - last year I saw them for the first time at Sonisphere Knebworth... This year I'm seeing them 3 more times! I can't get enough of Maiden.
This is what it sounds like when:
Bruce was at the top of his game, Iron Maiden had a world class drummer
they still do. but clive was clive
Nicko one of the greatest drummer, but Clive was very special drummer, Clive was full of energy and Clive was really fast.
Oh, Harris and Murray were just there for window dressing i guess? It was ALL of them,,, DUDE you are so on CRACK!

The cheerful Clive Burr plays everything always with a smile on his face. This is the way we want to remember him. Respect!!!
one of my TOP 3 drummers ever. Along with Eric Carr and K. Moon
Man I feel for Clive. Took a break to mourn his dad and got sick with MS later on. My dad died from MS, I wouldnt wish that disease on anyone. Life is cruel
I was a massive Clive Burr fan long before I had to stop drumming because of MS. The irony. Sorry that happened to your dad.
This is my favourite Maiden live recording. Everyone's on top form, especially Bruce, before he was exhausted from all the touring. And I prefer Clive over Nicko.
Actually Bruce is burned during the Powerslave tour... He was still awesome during the Piece of Mind tour in 1983
Me too!!
ik im 5 years late, but Nicko is an absolute beast, just listen to Where eagles dare
Clive was their best drummer, even Bruce thought so
Clive is more organic!!! Rest In Peace legend
Quite possibly the best live recorded vocal performance of this song.
@@jmpo6686 Easy..
All the songs of that concert, you mean hahaha
True. Same goes for hallowed be thy name from this same concert.

Really?
Holy shit, just watched the '83 version with Nicko and the difference is mindblowing. Clive blows him out of the water in my opinion.
Are you sure its not Bruce's fault? There has times where Bruce doesn't do a good job on this song
+MrCapone1996 Vocals are no factor here. We are talking drums :D
Thomas Hope true but vocals are a factor on the different performances
agree. Nicko's playing on Clive Burr songs is not up to par. I guess it's their different drumming styles. I really love Clive drumming with Maiden.
Mtrozful Yep...this is explosive. The way the song was meant to be played.
I don't know why but I really like how Bruce goes yeah after singing the line "run for your lives"
this TOTALLY kills the live after death version.
and what you say about the fligth 666 version .

This is by far the best performance of this song. A masterclass on how to craft and perform a great metal song.
this definitely the best live version, the drumming is incredibly good, if ever a song was made to showcase drums then this is it
James T Rio 2001 is better, sick performance there.
2001? with nicko? better? what a joke...
This concert is their best live recording, period.
